The Royals #2

The Throne

Rate this book
Disclaimer: This is a scorching hot forbidden romance that involves one bad-boy Prince, an untouched Duchess, and the sparks that are hot enough to ruin them both.

You know what you can have when you’re a Prince?
Anything you want—anyone you want.
Except her.

Charlotte Carlisle is the only woman I’ve ever loved and never touched—because lusting after your brother’s future queen is frowned upon. It never mattered that their betrothal was a political move made by our parents, that they didn’t love each other—she was completely off limits to everything but my constant fantasies. And I’ve spent the last decade pushing her away, desperate to save my sanity.

Now that my brother abdicated the throne for his true love and left me holding the crown, the one woman I’ve always wanted is the same person enlisted to help me choose my future Queen.
Thirty-six gorgeous debutantes are vying for the position, but Charlotte’s it. The only woman I’ll accept, and the only woman who refuses the offer. Constantly.

I’ve got four weeks to marry to solidify my claim to the throne, or my country will descend into chaos. The anti-monarchists are waiting for me to slip, and with over a thousand years of Wyndham tradition running through my veins, I can’t afford to fail.

But to win Charlotte, I’ve got to give her the one thing she’s never had: A choice.

And her decision could burn us all.

3.5 stars for this one mainly because the author left too many questions hanging and a hint for another book. It was great and I would have given it 4 stars for the character progression but the loose ends were so obvious.

Given that this book was released in 2017 and the author has barely made any mention of another book, I’m not expecting it.

5 stars

Abrupt ending but I'm still giving this 5 stars coz the writing is so good, no fillers, fast-paced and highly entertaining. First half is full of fun and humor, second half is pretty serious- suspense, drama and action packed.

〰️〰️

Kissing Charlotte felt like the beginning of my life. Nothing mattered until this moment, and nothing would matter after if she walked away.

Jameson and Charlotte have known each other since they're born. Both loyal, strong and likable characters. They shared a special bond, and H couldn't remember a time that he wasn't attracted to h. His heart broke when h was betrothed to his older brother, the crown prince. It was an arranged marriage, but H was still hurt with the knowledge that they would never be together in the future.

When his brother abdicated the throne to marry the woman he loves, H succeeded him. The crown may not be H's choice but h is, and he'd be damned to pass up this chance to be with her at last. h saw the broken engagement as freedom to finally do what she wants to do; and she needs for H to understand that first and foremost.

“Fight for her. Go to war for Charlotte. Give her whatever she wants—the one thing no one else ever has.”

“And what is that? Please tell me something that one of the richest women in the world doesn’t have.” . .

“A choice. Give her the freedom of a choice.”

Some OW drama.

The Throne by Samantha Whiskey is book two of her Royally Delicious series. In this book, we get Jameson - the spare who is not the heir and his story.
With Jameson ready to take Xander place, who was set to be the king before he abdicated the crown, he just assumed Charlie ( Charlotte} who was betrothed to Xander would marry him within the four weeks before coronation instead. What we see is that Charlie is not ready to get married and has other plans to help her friend Jamie find a more suitable wife so she can go back home where she can figure out what now to do with her life. What we see is that Charlie is not ready to get married and has other plans to help her friend Jamie find a more suitable wife so she can go back home where she can figure out what now to do with her life. Jaime cannot let that happen. He needs her to stick around for he has plans..plans that involve Charlie. He plans to teach Charlie how to be more human and not such a royal goody two shoes plus he needs to learn to more royal himself instead of such a playboy / learn to really act, to become more of a King.
I loved watching/reading these two realize that there is feelings there between one another. I loved watching Charlie realize she wants to marry for love while Jamie realizes he is truly in love with Charlie. Their path to true love, to happiness is marred with angst and passion. It was wonderful watching how Jaime was beside himself trying to figure out how to make Charlie see how in love he was with her while Charlie was fighting with herself, wondering should she give in to how to feels? Will they or wont they have the HEA they truly deserve? Oh it was a great read and I hope Sophie gets her own story someday, for that is one woman who deserves it!!!

Loved it

And just when I thought I was not going to like this was much as Xander & Willa's story....ha!!

It was adorable, sweet, sexy, with great chemistry and excitement. The end definitely is open for another book or two considering, hello? Oliver & Sophie will NEED their HEA for sure.

But I was stressed out because it might not have ended on an actual cliff hanger but it surely left way too many questions at the end, especially for there not to be any mention of another book. I loved all of the story but when it was getting close to the end, obviously with the storyline, I knew something crazy was going to happen. But there was not alot of time left to tie up all the lose knots. That is always frustrating as I do not like cliffhangers.

Such a great and solid story. Not sure how I missed the first book but I am definitely going back for a read now. This story is about Jameson - the spare not the heir- and his playboy ways due to watching the girl he loves engaged to his twin brother. Once his brother abdicates and follows his heart his true love Charlotte is suddenly available. This is Charlotte and Jameson's story and it has all the feels and some a great political twist built into it.

My heart absolutely fell for Jameson and pulled for Charlotte as she was trying to figure out who she truly was after a lifetime of being told who she was. An amazing love story and a great read.

Frustrating! Needed at least a book 3 in order to be complete.

Written in dual first person POV. Decent amount of sexy scenes and a little humor. This book had more intrigue than book 1 but I felt like this book didn’t even accomplish a HFN - book 3 is needed in order to wrap up a bunch of loose ends from this book however this book is 2 years old so it seems unlikely that book 3 will be written.

The Throne by Samantha Whiskey is book 2 of her Royally Delicious series. I would recommend that you read The Crown (book 1) first, which focuses on Jaime’s twin brother, Xander, to help you better understand some of the back story.

“The people chose you to lead. They didn’t choose me, and I know that. I’m not the King they thought they’d have, or the King I thought I’d have. But I can promise you that I’ll be the King they need. You’ll never have reason to doubt that.” - Jameson/Jaime

Having planned on only reading the first few chapters as I needed to be up for work the following morning, I found myself unable to put The Throne down and finished it in one go. I loved getting to know Jaime better and seeing how he dealt with becoming the heir to the throne after always being known as ‘the spare’. The book kept me gripped throughout and I liked how Samantha didn't end the story when readers would've expected. I also found myself laughing out loud in several places, especially during the interactions between Jaime and Charlotte who really were perfect for each other. There were also moments when I gasped or my stomach dropped as Samantha threw in unexpected surprises. Then at the end, I was left desperate to move onto book 3 even though it's not yet available.

‘Jaime and I had never been meant for each other, despite how well we fit together. The world wouldn’t allow it, and now it was much too late to spend time living in a dream.’ - Charlotte

I really felt for Charlotte as she'd spent years putting her own wants and needs on hold for the sake of her country and future husband but was then left feeling unwanted and as a ‘second choice’. Samantha didn't allow this to hold Charlotte back and I'm so glad that she gave Charlotte the strength and determination to finally make her own decisions and find what made her truly happy. We also got to see more of Xander and Jaime’s sisters, Sophie and Brie, and there were possible hints of what's in store for both, so I can't wait to see what Samantha has planned for them.

I have awarded The Throne a full 5 stars and definitely recommend it, along with the rest of the series, to other readers.

Jameson's story!
Oh, how I love this dysfunctional Royal family!
After reading The Crown, my anticipation level for this book was through the roof- Samantha Whiskey did not disappoint!

With Jameson ready ( sort of ) to take Xander place, who was set to be the king before he abdicated the crown, he just assumed Charlie ( Charlotte ) who had been betrothed to Xander would marry him within the four weeks before coronation instead.
But Charlotte has other ideas, ready to help her longtime friend and playboy Jameson find a suitable wife, then head back to her home, where she would figure out what to do now since her plans had been upheaved.
Jameson couldn’t let that happen- his mission on top of learning to be King would be to break down her Royal, stick in mud defenses ** SIGH**
Oooh, this one is good, I have read it twice already!
Royal me up any day, an emotional love-fest of epic proportions, this sexy beast of a tale is just what I had hoped it would be!
I liked it, Loved it, Frustrated with it, Happy with it, Felt Sadness within it all within one chapter! Those are my favorite kind of storylines! The ones with characters that get me all worked up-
Wondering if their (character)involvement is the cause of all the issues... Or like Charlotte, I loved her character, but she made me crazy ( who the heck cares if you’re being asked or told at this point I mean really.. JUST MY THOUGHTS )
A mystery to be solved, a sweet heat romances me up love, swoon me off the pages alpha royal with a whole lotta heat behind it and some action-packed drama made for another Hella Good Royal romance I could not put down!
I hope to Oliver and Sophie’s story soon *eeekkk*

WOW! I started Samantha Whiskey’s The Throne last night and I could not put it down. Just when I thought I knew what was going on and what was happening, Samantha Whiskey completely surprised me. The Throne really was the perfect blend of fairytale romance with some intrigue and excitement thrown it!

I shouldn’t be surprised about how much I loved this book because I really thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, The Crown, but I went into this book thinking I knew how it would play out. I mean, royalty and fairytale romances are a favorite genre of mine so I got a little cocky and thought I knew what to expect. I was so happily surprised that this book kept me guessing and totally hooked on the story.

This story is a great romance between Jaime (who is completely swoon worthy and real man who knows what he wants) and fiercely independent Charlotte who have known each other for almost their entire lives. Antiquated betrothals and laws and the weight of a crown has kept them apart. When The Throne starts, their circumstances have changed, but now they must think about what they want, what a country needs and how they can balance both and stay true to themselves.

As the story progresses, we get to see how these characters grow together, but also how they face all the outside challenges, political intrigue and even family interactions. Expect some unexpected surprises!

Samantha Whiskey truly did a great job with The Crown and now I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I know there’s more excitement and love to come…

After I finished the first book about Xander & Willa, I knew I wanted to read Jameson & Charlie's story. And I think it was perfect.
When Xander abdicated the throne and married Willa, it left Jamie, the spare, to take over and become king. He never thought it would happen to him because all his life he knew he was the spare and not the heir. And watching the woman he has loved for many years getting ready to marry his twin brother was even harder. When Xander found and fell in love with Willa, Jamie thought he would step in and marry Charlie. And why not, he was going to become king and she was going to be Xander's queen when he was all set to become king.
Now Charlie wants choices and to decide what to do for herself what her future holds. But there is a problem, she is in love with Jamie and always has been. But she doesn't want to be bound by duty anymore. She doesn't want to marry without love, not after seeing how happy Xander was being in love with Willa.
So how can Jamie make her see that they are perfect together and just what the kingdom needs? Will she give in to her true feeling before it is too late? And who is after the royal family and wants to destroy the monarchy?
I loved the first book and I think I loved this one more if that is possible. And I hope there is a story on Sophie, I need more now, please. If you love a great fairy tale with a modern day twist, then you need to read this series, it is great and I loved it.

THE THRONE is a sweet, steamy and funny royal romance about a playboy Prince who was obligated to be next to the throne as King after his twin brother abdicated The Crown in favor of real love, and a virgin Duchess who used to be betrothed to the latter but has secretly loved the other twin since she was thirteen.

If I Ioved Xander and Willa's story in THE CROWN, I absolutely FLOVED Jameson and Charlotte's story in THE THRONE! I was hooked by the vibrant plot and storytelling. There was never a dull moment with this book. Jameson made me laugh and grin so many times and Charlotte was so adorable. The chemistry between them was so exciting it made me giddy because they were simply meant to be! Everything about this book was amazing! I truly recommend everyone to read it if they want to just enjoy a sexy and heartwarming phenomenal royal romance. I'm gonna read both The Throne and The Crown again because they are two of my new all-time favorites!

I have read an advanced copy of this book and this is a fair and honest review and recommendation voluntarily shared.

In The Crown we had a fairy tale brought right into the modern day.

The Throne however blends a fairy tale love story with a bit of mystery and suspense.

I wondered where the story was going when at 65% in the book, Jameson and Charlie had worked through their issues and found their happily ever after.

Like others, I'm sure, I was convinced that the anti-monarchist group was a way to round the story out and never suspected that it would become such an integral part of the plot for this, as well as forthcoming installments of the Wyndham family's road to love.

I cannot stress enough how much this dip into mystery, suspense and perhaps even a little bit of thriller, has added to the allure of this novel and certainly generates some excitement for the continuing saga.

I, for one, can't wait for the ongoing lives and loves of this royal family and just hope that Sophie and Brie's stories are not far behind The Crown and The Throne.

A well deserved ☆☆☆☆☆ for 'the spare'!

I loved this book! Jameson and Charlotte (who I picture as “Charlotte” from Sex and the City) are fantastic! It’s not so much as the fairy tale romance as Xander and Willa but a kind of lost love.
Jameson is much like his namesake...dark, sexy and dangerous (with your heart). But he’s hurting and he uses his defense mechanism of seducing, partying and doing whatever he wants to forget his lady love. Charlotte is hurting too because she has no choice in her life.
It was so cute the way this story played out! I liked Jamie from the first book but totally fell in love with him after reading his story. How could you not? You cheer for them to be together. Again, how could you not? And they definitely rise to the challenge when the obstacles are pit against them.
Great work capturing the emotions and passion these two had for each that was locked away for years! I know nothing has been posted but would love Sophie’s story and...Damian! Excellent read!

Wow, wow and double wow. If you thought “The Crown” was exciting, you won’t believe how incredible “The Throne” is by Samantha Whiskey. I already knew Jameson was going to be HOT. This book did not disappoint. Jameson and Charlotte and an amazing duo. I loved how the book started. What a way to grab the reader’s attention. I could not put this book down. All of the characters in this book are very well developed with great depth to each of their characters. I love everything about Jameson who is a strong, sexy, smart, and wicked Prince. Charlotte is an elegant, smart and strong woman for all that she’s gone through, having been raised to marry the heir to the throne. There are many exciting secondary characters that I can’t wait to read about in the next book by Samantha Whiskey. This is a really fast paced book that kept my attention until the very end. If you read this book you won’t be disappointed. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

After reading The Crown I was desperate to read The Throne and it didn’t disappoint. Actually don’t think I’ve been so excited to receive a book.
I loved Jameson, he isn’t your text book king but he certainly rose to the challenge and proved he was exactly what Elleston needed. His genuine love for Charlotte pulled at my heart strings, he knew what he wanted and literally changed laws to get it.
Some of his one liners had me laughing out loud...“First off, please don’t forget who you work for. Spoiler alert: it’s me.”

“Last word: officially mine.”

Great story, great writing style that kept my attention. I couldn’t put the book down and genuinely didn’t want the story to end. I could read Samantha’s stories about the Wyndham’s all day.
Not your typical royal family but definitely one worth reading about. Samantha please let your next book be about Oliver and Sophie.

I love Samantha Whiskey's books, in special the Carolina Reapers series. They are sexy and drama is in the right amount.

I was delighted when I found out she had a royal romance series, which is another favorite trope of mine. It did not disappoint.

This edition is great because the storyline is great, the main characters are compelling and their chemistry is off the charts.

The one thing I did not think works is the fact that they assumingly fell in love at 13. I find that hard to process.

It ended a little open and there is the perfect setup for a third book with Sophie and Oliver. I would love to read it more!! It doesn't look so good since it was written in 2017, but I want it so much!!! #wishfulthinking.

Anyway, great book. I think this author is underrated.

15 year love finally requited

This book was better than the first one. No one was anyone else's dirty little secret but the book still doesn'thave the flaming chemistrymost of her NHL series had.

The queen was actually nice. She heads to the US to make amends with Willa for most of the book.

It was fun watching Jameson wear Charlotte down. I don't know where she found the strength to hold out and I can definitely understand Jameson getting offended at some points along the way. Her parents were great.

The ending was tense and I am interested to see how the third book works out. I really hope there is some burn the house down chemistry that has been missing in this series so far! 🔥

Getting good

I loved Xander and Willa in book 1. I love Charlotte and Jameson in this book. Both relationships were full of chemistry and love that was "felt." However, what made this book different and better from the first book, is that the plot with the anti-monarchy has thickened leading to a more in-depth plot. The first book was a relatively light hearted romance that set the stage for this book. This book does end with a cliffhanger. So keep that in mind before reading if the next book is not out, especially if you do not like cliffhangers. However, it was done "tastefully," so I did not feel the need to throw my kindle.

Hot! I've volunteered to review this book for the author. This is about Charlotte and Jameson. I was so excited to read this story. This is the second book in this series. This story did not disappointed me at all, it was even more than I what had expected. I love the way that Samantha wrote their history, their connection, and the way they balance each other out is so great. I simply can not wait for the next book in this series. They were made for each other! I'm ready to know what will happen wit the rest of the Royal Family. This is MUST HAVE!! Keep up the amazing work girl!

Well written

Sequel to The Crown, it follows Jameson's ascent to the throne. Marriage, threat to royal security, but it leaves a cliffhanger. I have enjoyed all of Ms. Whitney's books, but this one needs a complete finish. At the end I kept thinking "PLEASE tell me there is another book coming." What happens to Sophie and Brie? What about Xander and Willa? Was the terrorism resolved and were the people involved brought to justice? There are too many loose ends, and that left me wanting more.

I couldn’t wait too get Jameson’s story and I was definitely not disappointed. Jameson has always loved one woman, and now he will get his chance too prove that Charlotte always had his heart. Charlotte always had a connection with Jameson but now she sees him as a player and wants to stay away. Can Jameson prove that Charlotte was meant to be his queen? Charlotte & Jameson’s story will have you hooked from the beginning. I can’t wait to get more of this Royal family.

It seems like the wait for this book went so slow! This book...dare I say it was better than the first. Jameson is so hot oh my lord. I love Charlotte and him together. I couldn't put this book down and if you read the first one, you will not be disappointed by this one. The suspense and plot were on point. I hope this series keeps going! I love that family.

Jameson is no longer the spare since his brother Xander eloped with Willa & abdicated his place on the throne.
Charlotte has 4 weeks to find him a bride as she was supposed to marry Xander. Jameson has 4 weeks to put his plan in action!
Can he succeed & can a wrong at a young age be put right.
I loved Xander & Willa’s book “The Crown” & can’t wait to see what’s in store for Sophie & Ian.

Worth the read.

The first part of this book is a traditional type romance story. However, after the boy gets girl part, the story continues. That is where the book gets better. The last third of the book is the best part then it just ends with everything up in the air. I wasn’t expecting so many lose ends. I am guessing this this is a series. Even with cliffhanger it is still five stars.

Absolutely amazing!

This series was terrific. I’m glad I found these books during a search for more books written by Samantha Whiskey. Jameson and Charlotte’s love was beautiful. They were always meant to be together and find their HEA. I want more of the royal family, it left me with so many unanswered questions on the threats still out there. I hope we get to read about Sophia and Oliver and maybe even Brie and Damian.

ENTERTAINING!

Can I just say WOW! without giving away any spoilers? I really enjoyed The Crown however, I absolutely ADORED The Throne! Jaime and Charlotte's story is EPIC! It has all of the elements of a major romance: star-crossed would-be lovers tragically separated, then thrown together again in interesting/dangerous circumstances. What they make of their new relationship possibilities is anyone's guess, but Jaime is determined to make things work out for the better. Action, romance, excitement, dangerous twists and turns.
