The void gathers, and shadows deepen.

The terrifying truth has finally been revealed—New Arcadia is a city-sized weapon, poised to destroy the entire planet. Now Oren, Clementine, Anzien, and Ryland must join forces and fight, if they hope to rescue the millions of civilians within New Arcadia, and stop the apocalyptic weapon from activating. But to do so, they must overcome not only their enemies, but also the demons within themselves.

Oren’s memories of Clementine have been burned away, leaving an empty chasm between them. Determined to melt his cold despondence, Clementine returns a precious gift he gave her long ago. Will it be enough to bring them together, or will the contradiction in his memories divide them further?

As the Ko'jin rebels prepare to march on New Arcadia, Anzien discovers that General Graves has been feeding her lies and cannot be trusted. With millions of lives in the balance, Anzien must make a choice—subvert the general’s plans and face charges of treason, or follow orders and risk trading one tyrant for another.

Ryland has finally begun to accept his role as the voice of the resistance. There's just one problem: after his encounter with the Patriarch, he's no longer sure that his mind is his own. Now, not even he can say with surety whether he will aid in the evacuation efforts, or sabotage them completely.

Humanity's final hour approaches, and it appears all may be lost. Those who would fight must now band together in defiance if they hope to beat back the darkness, and save humanity from oblivion.

Defiance is the final book in the award winning Aeternum Chronicles sci-fi fantasy trilogy.

H.G. Chambers is a huge nerd. I mean, you should see this guy’s collection of Zelda, Star Wars, D&D, and Tolkien nonsense! He’s also written a few books, I’m told, though chances are they’re equally nerdy. So unless you’re fluent in Klingon and enjoy painfully drawn out conversations about obscure Elden Ring lore, maybe don’t ask what he’s into. Despite what should be a catastrophic social handicap, he’s managed to find an awesome wife and has two implausibly awesome kids (talk about beating the odds). H.G.C. lives out his pathetically nerdy life on Vancouver Island, Canada, where people are polite, and the geese are complete jerks. Seriously…don’t mess with the geese, they will end you.

Oh my! That was such an epic end to an epic series! It was such an incredible journey to be apart of and I want to personally thank H. G. Chambers for letting me be apart of this amazing universe! It has bee a crazy ride, I've laughed, I've cried and I've screamed (internally) every time my wonderful characters did or said something stupid!

I just love how this series ended, it was perfect. It has action, like heaps! It had answers to many questions, it was a blast of fear and confusion many times throughout! Especially what Oren found out in the end about his greatest enemy!

With the secrets spilled out, Oren and his crew must find a way to destroy their enemies and the weaponised city. But with all these supernatural powers how can they defeat them? Is there hope for humanity's survival?
You'll have to read this series to find out, and trust me you won't regret it!

This series is one of those precious gems you find buried, but if you look closely, and get your hands on his story, you'll fall in love and will be called lucky to be one of the readers to find this amazing series and author!

I know this will be a series I'll forever remember and treasure! Thank you Chambers for writing the way you do, can't wait to read more of your work

Received a copy from the author himself, for an honest review, thank you!

Excellent! Well written! Wonderful ending to a fast paced and exciting series!! I really can't say enough good things about the book and the series. I am sorry to see it come to an end however I thoroughly enjoyed the journey with Oren, Clem, Khalil, and all the other characters in the story! If you are a big fan of fantasy and magic, enjoy stories like LOTR and authors like Robert Jordan with a little hint of ( video ) gaming fighting mechanics, then this is the book/series for you. A big thumbs up and a raise of my sword to the author for an absorbing and fascinating story.

In closing I wish to thank the author for allowing me the opportunity to be on his ARC team and have a chance to read the books. It has truly been an honor which I have enjoyed.

This is the final book in the Aeternum Chronicles series. It brings back the characters you know from the previous two books, Recreance and Vigilance, such as Oren, Clem, Thomes, Anzien and Ryland. They now know that the city of New Arcadia is actually a massive weapon, which if allowed to activate, will kill millions and destroy the very planet they call home. Each must use the skills they have learned, to overcome their own demons and lack of self-belief, and work together to succeed.

Ryland has been brought into close contact with the Patriarch and while working on his role as voice of the resistance, also has to fight with the memories now taking over his mind and wonder if his actions are wholly his anymore. Anzien has been given a Commanders role in the Ko’jin rebel army and takes her responsibility seriously, but has to wonder at the actions of her superior, General Graves, as she realises she has been lied to and has to make her own decision – change the plans – which is treason or follow orders and fall under another despot ruler.

Oren has made a huge sacrifice. To either sacrifice himself or gain a weapon of immense power, with the price of this choice being the erasure of all his memories of Clem. A changed, hard young man is the result and Clem struggles to know if they will ever be together as long hoped for or this to be the end of their relationship and friendship. Oren travels through other dimensions to seek an answer for what they all face. The ability to see what actions may lead to success, but also what the personal costs will be to all of them.

Another great book in this series, which puts together all the elements of the first two books in the series and throws you into the turmoil of a world ending event, with few even knowing what is happening and millions to be evacuated if life is to continue for the people of New Arcadia. Loyalty and friendship are tested to the max as each group aims to overcome various parts of the destruction to come, while fighting creatures and an army from another dimension.

Once you start reading this, you won’t want to put it down until you are finished and can find out what happens to your favourite character(s) and New Arcadia itself. They are in a fight to save human kind and keep the darkness of oblivion away from their planet. They have to band together and rely on one another if they hope to survive. A fitting ending to the series and it ties up a lot of the storyline as you reach the end.

I’m sorry to see the end of the series and all the wonderful characters of the worlds the author created for our reading pleasure. I will certainly be looking out for more books from this author in the future and can’t wait to see where they will lead. I loved the kiraeen and their riders, which were introduced in the author’s book, Windwalker – Forbidden Flight and was so glad to see them back in this final instalment of the trilogy.

I was fortunate to receive an ARC copy of this book from the author, but have also bought it, as the story was worth purchasing. I would highly recommend the whole series and the accompanying book Windwalker, which is set far in the past, but introduces you to characters vital to this final battle. I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Defiance is the third book in H.G. Chambers 'The Aeternum Chronicles', and as with the previous 2, it is another brilliant read. The book continues the story where it left off after Vigilance.

The world Chambers describes is immersive and well thought through, and so easy to get lost in. The characters are superb, every one is lead character in their own right, and each is distinctly different from the others. Each character had their own objectives, their own motivation, and Chambers seamlessly shifts between them in a way that feels completely natural.

The plot continues and expands on that of the previous 2 books, and while chambers does a good job of reminding the reader of the important events, reading the first two is a must. The overarching battle between good and evil to save the world gets a bit lost in amongst all of the sub-plots going on, and there are a couple of truly profound twists which I didn't see coming but made the book into something far deeper than I was expecting. This is the final book in the series, and Chambers does a brilliant job of wrapping it all up with a little bow, tying up all of the lose ends and leaving a satisfying warm glow.

I can't really stress how great a series of books this has been. Each one has left me wanting more, and each has left an impression upon which I have found myself thinking about long after putting the book down. In this book, on more than 1 occasion, I had a moment where I had to put the book down to gather my thoughts.

I have given this book 5 stars, only because that is the highest rating I can give. In all honesty, I would willing have given it more, and it would have been more than deserving of it.

I have loved the previous books and Defiance was a fitting conclusion! Lots of action but the character and story development weren't ignored, far from it! I loved the twists and turns along the way to the somewhat startling but not improbable conclusion. I really didn't want this to be the end! I so enjoyed spending time with these diverse characters, who while not perfect were very relatable. Well done Mr Chambers :)

I liked the summary of the previous book on page 1 for a refresher. This is the third and last book of the series. There were twist and turns that made the story interesting with a satisfactory ending.

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
As the world spirals out of control the different members of the resistance struggle to find way to save not only the people of New Arcadia, but everyone on their world. Oren may have lost his memories of Clementine, but he is determined to save her despite the cost. Oren will use the Exigence, the weapon he chose, to obtain his goal even when it’s use may destroy him. Clementine will never give up on her love for Oren even when it seems hopeless. Ryland is forced by an unexpected source to work against the Ko’jin, or resistance, but things may not be what they seem. Humanities very existence hangs on the balance leaving all the members of the Ko’jin fighting for the very life. Will help come in time or is it too late for them.

This was an incredible series taking the reader on a journey both riveting and complex. Things never worked out as expected keeping reader held spellbound to wait and see what will happen next.

Wow, Wow and Wow. What a perfect ending to this series!

In this third book the two main stories from the previous books were expertly woven together to a totally satisfying conclusion. I agree with Anzien (one of the characters in this story) – this series is filled with secrets, magical powers, waygates and omni-stones. To not read the full series is to miss out on a lot of wonderful adventures.

Book 3 takes on a wonderful edge as everyone prepares for the ‘final stand’, the battle that will either save the people and their home or destroy it.

As one of the characters describes in this story, the novel has three objectives: “Evacuate the civilians, bring down the Patriarch, and destroy New Arcadia.” But there’s more, so much more. So many surprising twists and turns.

The author has a wonderful way of describing the use of magical and battle energy skills. He has created wonderful, fantastical creatures - some terrifying, some beautiful. And he has created a perfect evil – one that is terrifying enough to make your skin crawl.

And underneath it all is a love story, one you can’t help but get involved in, one where you hope everything works out but you’re just not quite sure how it can.

Magic, unforgettable characters, scenes that seem so real, fantastical creatures - what more could a reader want?

A highly recommended read.

I fell in love with the Aethernum Chronicles series since the first book I read the prequel Windwalker, and was not disappointed in this the 3rd and final book in the same series as we the readers were given a grand finale which was such an exciting read from start to finish. I particularly love the fantastic world building of New Arcadia, the Sahra and the many worlds which we briefly glimpse as our heroes travel through the waygates. The characters are very strong, courageous and loyal to a fault and the two main characters in particular are very charismatic and ready to give up their own lives and a chance to make a life together in order to protect their world from destruction. These books are filled with fantastic ideas of great imagination which could also classify these books as sci-fi books not just fantasy ones. They are books with a fight of good against evil, a fight for freedom from tyranny, a fight against the dark God himself, with great battle scenes where the fighters are imbued with powers called kai energy which turned the warriors into amazing weapons in and of themselves and the amazing Sahra Windwalkers riding on their fantastical Kiraeen. This is a breath taking series not to be missed!

Defiance was a thrill a minute. I enjoyed the whole series, and Defiance wrapped up everything in a messy bow. Yep, messy, but awesome messy. Actually, I followed everything up until the last few chapters. Up to then, I rode alongside the whole crew, a few Davids against innumerable Goliaths. Action packed hardly starts to describe it. However, the ending, well, I read those last three chapters at least three times each, and still am not sure I fully understand. But, I still liked it enough for it to deserve five stars. Even though I received a free copy in advance, I bought the book to show more support, and to thank Harold for this adventure. I look forward to whatever comes out of your brain next, Mr. H.G. Chambers.

Updated: The confusion I had turned out to be my own fault. I read a pre-release version. The author (thank you, Harold) sent out an update of a conversation toward the end of the book. He recommended that it be read BEFORE leaving a review. I apparently skipped that part of the email. I read that updated section (which would already be what was in the published version) today (AFTER the review) and that made the ending much more understandable. So now I can say, great ending!

Great Conclusion to An Exciting Series!

This is the third and final book in a trilogy. I enjoyed the first two books and was looking forward to this book.

HG Chambers did not disappoint. A quick recap in the first chapter was a great way to freshen my memory and also serves as a partial introduction for anyone jumping straight into Book 3. I would suggest reading them in order as there is a lot of nuances that you will miss.

Defiance is filled with its own sets of twists and turns as we follow Oren and CLementine pursue their destiny. They have acquired a great cast of compatriots and a few not so nice antagonists.

Movie material

These 3 books kept me locked in the energy, action and the human frailties of all the characters, the good and the bad.
It was like the movie was running in my mind that I would find my self speed reading. I would go back and read it again so I didn't miss something important that would be an answer to a future chapter.
I actually started the first book because I couldn't decide what to read next, glad I read this series.

This is the last in the series. What a rush and journey. New Arcadia has a weapon in place that will destroy all of its citizens. Oren must join forces with his allies to fight their enemies. But will they be able to save the city from this weapon? There is a lot of action that keeps you wanting to read.

Weird

I thought this story was good, but a little bit weird. I don’t like how it skipped from person to person. It made it hard to follow. I don’t know if every character’s story arc was completed or not. Good story concept though.

After a wait while the book got written and prepared for publication, all I can say is, what a finale to this series! I enjoyed reading the first two books in this phenomenal, inventive world, and Defiance was really the icing on the cake. Finally pulling the different actors together in a showdown to end all showdowns, Chambers nevertheless packed in quite a few surprises. Expect the unexpected with this and you'll do just fine.

While the ending wasn't quite what I'd envisaged... it was better, suitably twisty, perfectly fitting the nature of the series.

For me, I see this series as a fine merger of science fiction and fantasy - which often makes for some very inventive worldbuilding in my experience. From the first book this has been a world that's excited me with its possibilities, and as the series has gone on I haven't been disappointed.

Thanks for the fun!

What an amazing ending to this series of books. Everything is tied up, but not necessarily as we expected. All of the characters we have encountered so far are followed to the end - and those ends are not always happy ones, making this more realistic than if everyone had lived happily ever after.
There is plenty of drama, and twists and turns - who to trust?
The author has made a very realistic world for us without spending pages and pages world building, so I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and am rather sad that it is completed.
