With her trusty tape recorder by her side, radio show host Jeanine McMullen combs the Welsh highlands, Scottish moors, and English hills in search of cackling hens, and crusty rural farmers willing to talk about their farms.Back at her own farm McMullen's animals are a stimulus for worry, anger or joy. As Jeanine struggles to keep her farm, her Mother, and her radio series together, she shows us that when your feet are stuck in the mud you can still look up at the stars.
I loved this book. I am so sad that there are no more. She wrote three and one leads straight into the next. She is such a good writer and her experiences with all her animals on her Welsh farm, are just so much fun. Many of the animals were such characters and had so many human qualities, it made for a very entertaining read. The series is: 'My Small Country Living', 'Wind in the Ash Tree', and 'A Small Country Living Goes On'. The books might not be available in your library, but you can probably get them for a penny plus shipping and handling on amazon - or you can get them on 'paperback swap', which is where I got mine. I will not be swapping them again - since I am keeping mine! I will definitely read them again.
I really enjoyed this book! Its written by a woman who lives in Wales, and I havent come across too many books set in that part of the world. I think anyone who enjoys animals would enjoy this book. She was also host of a radio program that highlighted people who raised heritage breeds, or practiced historical arts and crafts.
