المختطفات: شهادات من فتيات بوكو حرام
يعتبر هذا الكتاب وثيقة مهمّة ومناشدة حقيقية من أجل سياسات لجوء أكثر إنسانية. ففيه يعرض لنا المؤلف حوارات مع عدة فتيات ونساء من اللاتي قامت بوكو حرام بخطفهن، واستطعن الهرب فيما بعد. كما يوثق الكتاب بصورهن التي أخذها المصور الفوتوغرافي أندي سبيرا. فهما يريدان أن يوضحا لنا واقع الأمر مع هذه الجماعة وما ترتكبه حقًا من جرائم في حق الشعب النيجيري. ومن ثم يناشدان بالقيام بمساعدتهن بأي وسيلة كانت.
وفي الكتاب يقول "باور":
عندما أعود من رحلاتي، كثيرًا ما يسألني الناس: "ما علاقتنا نحن بذلك؟"... "لماذا؟" هكذا يتساءل البعض بنبرة تنطوي على اتهام. "لماذا يتعين علينا أن نثقل على أنفسنا بذلك؟ ما الذي سيتغير إذا عرفنا؟"... لا يبقى أي من هذا الجنون الذي يجتاح بلدًا ما من بلاد العالم مقتصرًا على هذا البلد وحده في زمننا هذا. فلطالما كنا نظن أننا نستطيع أن نغض البصر عن جرائم القتل التي تحدث في سوريا. ما شأننا نحن بمشاكل سوريا؟ وها هي الحرب الأهلية في سوريا أمر يشغل اليوم كل الدول.
ولد "باور" في عام 1970، يعمل في صحيفة "دي تسايت" واسعة الانتشار في ألمانيا. وتقديرًا لتقاريره المتميزة، حصل على جائزة وسائل الإعلام الكاثوليكية وجائزة "بريكس بايو - كالفادو" الصادرة عن صحيفة "دي جيرو". ترجمت له العربي للنشر والتوزيع كتاب "هاربون من الموت" عام 2016، وقد نال عنه جائزة "ريمتيزما" لحرية الصحافة في العام نفسه. نُشرت النسخة الألمانية منه بعنوان "عبر البحار".

His breakthrough play was Magic Afternoon in 1967, in which he portrays four youths who interrupt their lazy and boring afternoon by unmotivated outbreaks of violence and aggression (Magic Afternoon was adapted for the screen most recently by Catherine Jelski in 2000 as The Young Unknowns). After two more successes, Change (1969) and Gespenster (Ghosts, 1973), Bauer's plays became increasingly surreal and experimental. Bauer though resisted any labelling by academia and critics alike until his death. Most of his plays during 1967 and 1990 were translated into English by Martin Esslin, remembered for coining the term Theatre of the Absurd. In the late 1970's and early 1980's San Francisco's Magic Theatre performed almost each season a play of Bauer, 1993 his play Tadpoletigermosquitos at Mulligan's was premiered at New York's Ohio Theatre. In 2015, Bauer's lost first drama Der Rüssel (The Trunk) was rediscovered and premiered at the Wiener Akademietheater in 2018.

بوكو حرام..جماعة إسلامية نيجيرية تعني بلهجة قبائل الهوسا "التعليم الغربي حرام" ...
تحولت هذه الجماعة الإرهابية بشكل أو بآخر إلى جيش تقليدي، قتلت في السنوات الأخيرة أكبر عدد من البشر، ربما أكثر ممَّن قتلهم تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية داعش..
احتلَّت جماعة «بوكو حرام» خُمس نيجيريا في غضون أشهر قليلة فقط ورغم أنها جماعة قاتلة إلى هذه الدرجة، فإننا لا نعرف عنها سوى القليل...
وفي هذا الكتاب المهم حتعرف عنهم حاجات كتير وحتقرأ عن شهادات للعديد من النساء اللاتي نجحن في الفرار من معسكر رقيق بوكو حرام ...

: عندما نادت "ميشيل أوباما" قائلة أعيدوا فتياتنا بعد اختطاف فتيات مدرسة بشيبوك،
كان هذا إيذانًا بالتفات العالم لخطر منظمة بوكو حرام.
هي جماعة إرهابية تدعو نفسها جماعة أهل السنة للدعوة والجهاد، ويسميها العالم بوكو حرام أي التعليم الغربي حرام.
يسجل الكاتب شهادات الفتيات اللاتي نجحن في الفرار من الاختطاف من جماعة بوكو حرام وتعذيبهن.
استخدمت الجماعة الفتيات المختطفات في عمليات التفجير سواء بإجبارهن من خلال التهديد والتعذيب. (بعض الفتيات الصغيرات ذهبن لمواقع التفجير ونفذت العمليات من خلالهن دون أن يعلمن أنهن يحملن المتفجرات)، أو باقناعهن بالانضمام طواعية لفكر الجماعة.
«فمن الذي يستطيع أن يقيس مدى التغيير الذي يطال أحدًا أثناء احتجازه لمدة أشهر طويلة؟»
بجانب بعض ادعاءات الجيش النيجيري التي لا يوجد دليل على صحتها، فإن شهادات الفتيات الهاربات هي المصدر الذي يعطينا فكرة عن الحياة الداخلية لهذا التنظيم.
تقع نيجيريا ضحية لقوى متصارعة وتناقضات قاتلة على أرضها فمع زيادة فقر وتوتر الشمال، يزداد الجنوب ثروة وفسادًا، فالتغير المناخي بجانب الموارد الشحيحة من البداية، يضعف فرص تحسن اقتصاد الشمال.
أما في الجنوب فقد جلبت آبار النفط، الثروة والاختلاس والفساد السياسي.
يتناول الكاتب مراحل تطور وتحول جماعة بوكو حرام وكيف بدأ صعودها بكذبة عندما تحالف واحد من أهم رجال السياسة مع قائد جماعة بوكو حرام في بداياتها ليستخدمهم في ترويع المنافسين وحشد مناصرين له من أجل الفوز بالانتخابات، ومقابل ذلك ضمن لهم الدعم المادي والنفوذ ووعدهم بتطبيق مفهومهم لأحكام الشريعة الإسلامية والتي استثنى رجال السياسة أنفسهم تمامًا من تطبيقها.
منعت جماعة "بوكو حرام" النساء في الأماكن التي سيطرت عليها من العمل أو الخروج من المنزل، ومع إجبار الرجال كلهم على المشاركة في الحروب، فإن الأطفال وحدهم من يتحملون عبء العمل في مناطق سيطرة الجماعة.
وعندما نذكر الأطفال فمنهم من عمره أربع أو خمس سنوات.
إحدى المختطفات فتاة عمرها عامان محتجزة مع نساء وفتيات لا تعرف منهم أحداً لأن أمها مختطفة في مكان آخر.
كان إعدام مؤسس الجماعة "محمد يوسف" إعلانًا للميلاد الثاني للجماعة بعكس ما قدرته الحكومة النيجيرية
فقد خلفه زعيم يفوقه وحشيةً وتطرفًا هو "أبو بكر شيكاو" الذي كانت تسجيلاته أكثر جنونا ودموية.
وسرعان ما ازداد المسلحون قوة وتطرفًا وبدأت الجماعة تعمل خفية، وانقطعت أي معلومات كان يسهل توافرها سابقًا.
ينسج شيكاو وجماعته الأساطير حول أنفسهم لإثارة الرعب في نفوس الناس ويخيفون من تحت سيطرتهم بأن شيكاو سيجدهم ويأتي بهم أينما كانوا.. فالنساء اللاتي نجحن في الفرار يشعرن بشيء خفي يجذبهن لغابة "سامبيسا" وكر بوكو حرام.
وفي كل ليلة تركض النساء مذعورات، هربًا من كوابيسهن إلى الحقول للاختباء بعيداً عن منازلهن فلم يعد هناك معنى حقيقي للأمن في البيوت.
ظلت السلطات النيجيرية غافلة عن بوكو حرام حتى قويت شوكتها فنيجيريا بلد مليء بالصراعات والفظائع ليس أكبرها الجماعات المتطرفة
ما بين حروب العصابات وطقوس قتل شيطانية منتشرة في الجنوب المسيحي الذي يطالب متطرفوه بقتل الأطفال في تلك الطقوس.
وليست بوكو حرام أول جماعة إرهابية متطرفة تظهر في نيجيريا فسبقها حركات راديكالية ولكنها كانت سريعة الاختفاء
برغم حداثتها مزقت بوكو حرام النسيج الاجتماعي للشعب النيجيري وزعزعت التوزان بين العرقيات.
واستمرت بوكو حرام بفضل هشاشة الدولة التي تواجهها حيث تستهدف بوكو حرام جيشا واهنًا أضعفت الأحزاب السياسية قوته خوفًا من الانقلابات العسكرية، فكان من آثار ذلك ضعف الجيش أمام مواجهة بوكو حرام، وتتحمل دول جوار نيجيريا العبء الأكبر في الحرب على الجماعة الإرهابية.
عقدت الحكومة النيجيرية تحالف تسبب في إراقة دماء أكثر عندما أسست ما يسمى بالمقاومة الشعبية كانت حقيقًة تضم مجرمين وقطاع طرق ورجال عصابات استأجرتهم الدولة وانتهزوا شرعية وضعهم وحملهم للسلاح لممارسة أعمال القتل والنهب والانتقامات القبلية فوجد السكان أنفسهم أمام طرف آخر ينافس بوكو حرام في وحشيتها.
يعيق كثير من الساسة في الحكومة اي فرصة للمفاوضات بين الدولة وبوكو حرام لأنها تتعارض مع مصالحهم التي تزدهر في فترات الحرب.
وكثيراً ما ينتهج الجيش النيجيري سلوكًا أكثر وحشية من بوكو حرام في قتل المدنيين بدعوى الاشتباه بهم،
بعض المختطفات اللاتي فررن يتم احتجازهن من قبل الجيش في معسكرات لا تقل عنفا عن حالهن مع بوكو حرام بدعوى معالجتهن من التطرف
وكل ما يتغير هو سجّان الفتيات ومعذبهن.
«وكم هي مؤلمة أقوال هؤلاء الناس؛ لأنها من بين أسباب أخرى توضح لنا إلى أي مدى نظرتنا ما زالت محدودة، وإلى أي مدى يعد نموذج إدراكنا ضيقًا. كم هو ضئيل فهمنا لهذا العالم، وهذا الزمن الذي نعتبره زمننا.»

Stolen Girls was a great read.
Short, informative, and not too detailed to make you want to put it down.
To clarify, the women and girls that were interviewed for the book were not the school girls kidnapped from Chibok. I’m glad the book shared that, because based on what the news was reporting, the main concern were the schoolgirls that were kidnapped. No one was mentioning the other women and girls in surrounding villages that were being taken by Boko Haram.
What I liked most about the book was how it was written. The author tells how Boko Haram came to be in the region, all while sharing these experiences of those kidnapped. There was a lot I did not know about Boko Haram before reading this book and it educated me a lot in that. I appreciate that the stories and experiences weren’t overly detailed to make you want to put down the book as well
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A quick read, filled with so much information and story telling .

Çok utandım, içerlendim.
Bir Müslüman olarak bu terör örgütüne dair en ufak bilgim yoktu. Kitabın ilk sayfasından itibaren her sayfasında büyük dehşete düştüm. Hemen hemen her zaman, olaylardan en az etkilenen, empati yeteneği çok da iyi olmayan ben bile kaldıramadım, benim psikolojim bile kaldırmadı bu kitabı. Sürekli ara vermek zorunda kaldım. Sahiden okumak herkesin yapabileceği bir şey değil. Olanları, insan aklı almıyor.
Bu tip kitaplarda -bizden uzak olup bitenleri anlatan kitaplar- benim en çok okumak istediğim şey, kişilerin ağzından dinlemek olayları. Onların anlatması çok daha değerli. Bu sebeple çok daha değerli bir kaynak bence.
Bu yorumları kenara bırakırsak: Kitap haritalarla başlıyor ve sonra açılış yazısı. Yazı şöyle bitiyor: "Bu ormanda bolca yırtıcı hayvan vardır. Fakat içlerinde en tehlikelisi insandır. Daha doğrusu: Erkek." Başta hiç anlam veremediğim bu cümle için düşündüm ki az bile diyorlar.
Fotoğraflar ise bambaşka bir olay. Olayların içinde bulunan kadınların fotoğrafları ve bir iki cümle.
Talatu, 14, Sadiya'nın kızı, kaçırıldığı tarihte dokuzuncu sınıfa gidiyordu. Annesi ile birlikte kaçırıldı ve aynı şekilde zorla evlendirildi.
Sakinah, 33, ebe. Altı çocuk annesi, birkaç hafta boyunca dağlarda saklandıktan sonra kaçırılıp iki ay esir tutuldu. On bir yaşındaki en büyük kızı, annesinden ayrı bir şekilde örgütten kaçmaya çalışırken hayatını kaybetti.
Gajar, 16, tarım işçisi, yedi ay boyunca zorla evlendirildiği Sambisa Orman'ında esir tutuldu. Oğlu İsa'nın babası, tecavüzcüsü.

Bir Müslüman olarak bu terör örgütüne dair en ufak bilgim yoktu. Kitabın ilk sayfasından itibaren her sayfasında büyük dehşete düştüm. Hemen hemen her zaman, olaylardan en az etkilenen, empati yeteneği çok da iyi olmayan ben bile kaldıramadım, benim psikolojim bile kaldırmadı bu kitabı. Sürekli ara vermek zorunda kaldım. Sahiden okumak herkesin yapabileceği bir şey değil. Olanları, insan aklı almıyor.
Bu tip kitaplarda -bizden uzak olup bitenleri anlatan kitaplar- benim en çok okumak istediğim şey, kişilerin ağzından dinlemek olayları. Onların anlatması çok daha değerli. Bu sebeple çok daha değerli bir kaynak bence.
Bu yorumları kenara bırakırsak: Kitap haritalarla başlıyor ve sonra açılış yazısı. Yazı şöyle bitiyor: "Bu ormanda bolca yırtıcı hayvan vardır. Fakat içlerinde en tehlikelisi insandır. Daha doğrusu: Erkek." Başta hiç anlam veremediğim bu cümle için düşündüm ki az bile diyorlar.
Fotoğraflar ise bambaşka bir olay. Olayların içinde bulunan kadınların fotoğrafları ve bir iki cümle.
Talatu, 14, Sadiya'nın kızı, kaçırıldığı tarihte dokuzuncu sınıfa gidiyordu. Annesi ile birlikte kaçırıldı ve aynı şekilde zorla evlendirildi.
Sakinah, 33, ebe. Altı çocuk annesi, birkaç hafta boyunca dağlarda saklandıktan sonra kaçırılıp iki ay esir tutuldu. On bir yaşındaki en büyük kızı, annesinden ayrı bir şekilde örgütten kaçmaya çalışırken hayatını kaybetti.

You truly don't know what you don't know. "Stolen Girls" was full of technical and political information helpful to learning more about Boko Haram, and its destructive impact on Nigerian society. This book is necessary reading, but its disturbing and often horrifying stories of death, loss and fear make it difficult to get through. However, Bauer's interviews reveal the unassuming, authentic strength of these women and men as they face obstacles even after their escape. The interviewed had the choice to not tell their story, thereby keeping them from reliving the terrors they were forced to undergo, yet they still spoke. The least we can do is read.

'' بوكو حرام''.. الوجه الحقيقي للوحشية.
ان كنت تظن أن '' داعش'' أكثر التنظيمات الإرهابية وحشية فأنت لم تتعرف بعد على بوكو حرام.
نشأ هذا التنظيم في نيجيريا، وفي غضون أشهر استطاع السيطرة على خمسها..
ولم يكتف بنيجيريا بل امتد إلى دول مجاورة..
في هذا الكتاب نقرأ شهادات حية لمخطوفات تحررن من قبضة بوكو حرام..
شهادات مليئة بالبطش والخوف والتنكيل.. مليئة بكل ما هو غير إنساني..
لكن طيلة قراءتي لهذه الشهادات كنت أشعر أن هؤلاء الفتيات و النسوة لم تسعفهنّ الكلمات.. وأن هناك المزيد من الفظاعة التي لم يستطعن التعبير عنها..
ليكن الله في عونهنّ.

Pisanie o kobietach i wojnie nigdy nie jest łatwe. Świat zwrócił się ku Nigerii, gdy w 2014 roku ponad 250 dziewczynek zostało porwanych przez nieznaną nam jeszcze wówczas organizację - sektę - Boko Haram. Wtedy właśnie dowiedzieliśmy się strasznej prawdy o roli kobiet w wojnie w Nigerii. Jak czytamy w książce Wolfganga Bauera "Porwane", kobiety grają w tym starciu najgorszą z ról - uważane są za naczynia - pojemniki do rodzenia kolejnych pokoleń wojowników. Prawie wszystkie z bohaterek książki - kobiet, które były porwane przez Boko Haram i którym udało się uciec - zostały wydane za swoich oprawców i prawie wszystkie mają z nimi dzieci. Przez to już nigdy nie bedą szanowane w swoich społecznościach, do których udało im się wrócić. "Porwane" to historie kobiet - opowiedziane przez nie same - i komentarze autora, dopowiedzenia i zarys historyczny. Ta niewielka objętościowo książka, to jedyny na polskim rynku reportaż o tym co dzieje się w Nigerii w ostatnich latach. O Boko Haram wiemy mniej niż o Korei Północnej, a ilość jego ofiar jest o wiele większa, niż ofiar liczba Państwa Islamskiego. Czy to, że ofiary Boko Haram są daleko od nas umniejsza ich cierpienie ? Czy nigeryjskie kobiety nie zasługują na bycie wysłuchanymi ? Uważam, że każdy, komu nie jest obojętna sytuacja kobiet i każdy, kto interesuje się bieżącymi sprawami powinien przeczytać tę książkę. Although this is a small book (147 pages), it was not a quick read for me. Sometimes I could only read a few pages and stopped. I was tempted to not finish the book many times but it kept calling to me to finish and I am glad I did. Like many people I read the news reports when these girls were kidnapped by until then an almost unheard of militant group called Boko Haram. When it happened, I couldn't imagine how it could have happened. Now I know how it happened and what happened to these girls. Some of these girls have escaped and this is their story. The horror of the truth is that girls continue to be kidnapped to this day. This may not be an easy book for you to read but in my opinion it needs to be read!

While it does feel weird to write a review about a book like this, I think where I end up commenting on is the clarity of conveying the experiences and context to the reader. I thought Bauer's approach of interchanging between having the survivors of these kidnappings telling their stories and giving background and context to their stories was effective. It kept the focus on them while making sure that those who don't know many details of what happened have the information they need to more fully grasp what these people went through. Though, I think there is no fully understanding unless a person has experienced what they did. This was definitely an emotionally hard book to read, but an important one nevertheless.
The style and format of this book reminded me of We Crossed a Bridge and It Trembled: Voices from Syria.

A surprisingly excellent choice for a summer vacation read. Fast-moving and not at all as depressing as it could have been, despite the almost impossibly harsh subject matter... The author of the original German, and the translator who made this version available (no, he's not *that* Eric Trump - I checked!) somehow made this land, its history, and most dramatically, these women, accessible to an American reader.
Being able to point out Nigeria on a map, describe a bit of its terrain, its religions, is less than "barely scratching the surface." Almost more than anything else it did, this book made me aware of how unfamiliar I am with the lives of human beings who share the same planet I do, but whose experiences remind me more of a dystopian fiction than of my own.
Definitely glad I pulled this from the shelf at my library, based on no review but a whim.

This is definitely not an enjoyable read, it's very difficult and has many trigger warnings (violence, sexual assault).
I had to take it a few pages at a time due to its horrible topic, it definitely won't suit everyone but if you think you can take it, even in small dosages as I did, I would encourage you to do so.

هذا الكتاب عبارة عن برنامج وثائقي حيث يعرض قصص و شهادات الفتيات و النساء المختطفات من قبل جماعة بوكو حرام و يتخللها تاريخ تلك الجماعة و تأثيرها على نيجيريا و الدول المحيطة بها مثل تشاد و النيجر و الكاميرون. عرفت جماعة بوكو حرام أولا باسم اليوسيفين و هي جماعة صغيرة من المتشددين دينيا و المتزمتين الذين التفوا حول محمد يوسف و هو واعظ و لكنه ليس إماما دارسا بل واحد من عامة الشعب. في ديسمبر ٢٠٠٣ م هاجمت الجماعة قوات الأمن و نهبت أسلحتهم ثم هاجمت نقاط التفتيش بالمنطقة و هكذا بدا الصراع الديني المحموم خصوصا في الشمال الشرقي حيث يتركز المسلمون أكثر من جنوب نيجيريا. تمركزت جماعة بوكو حرام في الطريق ٣١ أ القريب من غابة سامبيسا حيث يتم خطف النساء الى مخيماتهم في الغابة و يتم تزويجهن قسرا أو ارسالهم نحو النقاط الأمنية أو المكتظة بالسكان لتفجير أنفسهن هناك بينما يتم قتل الرجال بالرصاص أو نحرهم من خلف الرقبة و أحيانا أخرى تجنيدهم لدى الجماعة. تم إعدام محمد يوسف في تاريخ ٣٠ يوليو ٢٠٠٩ م و ظنت نيجيريا أنها ارتاحت من الجماعة و لكن حصل العكس حيث استلم مكانه أبو بكر شيكاو الذي كان يهزأ بالجيش الوطني في رسائله المصورة كما ازدادت الهجمات على قرى نيجيريا لتمتد أيضا للدول المجاورة. في السنوات الأخيرة أصدرت محاكم عسكرية أحكاما بإدانة عشرات اللواءات من شمال البلاد لأنهم أبلغوا جماعة بوكو حرام بالخطط الهجومية لقواتهم. و لذلك على الرغم من قوات الدعم التي كانت الحكومة ترسلها مرارا و تكرارا الى الشمال فإن الجيش و الشرطة قد فشلا في مقاومة تلك الجماعة حتى القوات الخاصة من جمهوريتي تشاد و الكاميرون لم تتمكن من طي هذه الصفحة و جندت الحكومة بعض المرتزقة من دول مختلفة بالإضافة إلى رجال العصابات و لكنهم سرعان ما تحولوا الى بلاء جديد بالنسبة للسكان حيث اشتهروا بأعمال القتل التعسفية و السلب و النهب . و ما زالت هذه المأساة مستمرة خصوصا أن لا أحد يعرف على وجه التحديد طريقة تركيب هذه الجماعة أو تنظيمها و كيف تسير أمورها حيث تقوم بشراء الأسلحة من السوق السوداء بالإضافة إلى جلبها من الدول المجاورة.

في قراءة أولى لكتب الصحافة الإستقصائية كانت قرائتي لكتاب"المختفطات"، شهادات لمجموعة من السيدات اللواتي تم إختفطافهن من قبل جماعة"بوكو حرام" في نيجيريا
يستعرض الكاتب نشأة الجماعة، بدايات الإنتشار والتحول إلى الإنتشار المسلح ومهاجمة القرى وأماكن تمركز قوات الأمن، أبرز زعماء الحركة وأسرار تحولها من السرية إلى العلنية، مصير كل قائد منهم، تحول الجماعة نفسها من الولاء للقادة المحليين إلى الإنتماء لجماعتي"داعش وبن لادن"، سر تمركز الجماعة في الغابة الملعونة والتي تعرف بإسم"سامبيسا"
على مدار حوالي 280 صفحة كانت الحكاية كاملة، على لسان النساء مثل "تالاتو" و"سعدية" و"بتولا" و"رابى" (وكلها أسماء مستعارة رغبةً من الكاتب في حمايتهن" كانت الشهادات الصادمة، يستعرض الكاتب الخلفية الإجتماعية لكل واحدة من الضحايا على ��دة، تغير الحياة قبل وبعد ظهور الجماعة على الساحة السياسية في نيجريا، ثم يكون الحديث عن كيفية وقوع كل سيدة في أسر الجماعة، الأهوال التي عايشتها في مرحلة الأسر
نستطيع بسهولة تخيل العذاب المحيط بهم بمجرد وصف الكاتب لغابة"سامبيسا" والتي تتميز بغابات كثيفة وأشجار متشابكة حد أنهم لايشعرون أحياناً بهطول المطر رغم غزارته، تسكن كل أسرة مهما كان عددها حول جذع شجرة بجوار أفاعي الغابة وحيواناتها المختلفة، مما عرض البعض للسعات مميتة خاصة مع عدم توفر الحد الأدنى من الرعاية الطبية والأمصال، كيف يتأتي ذلك في غابة يعجز حتى الجيش النيجيري على مهاجمتها إلا من علو شاهق، تكون دوماً النتيجة هي ضحايا جدد أتغلبهم من النساء والأطفال
لم تكن الغابة فقط هي العذاب الوحيد الذي واجهته النسوة، فالبداية تكون دوماً في مرحلة الخطف نفسها، الهجوم الخاطف للجماعة على القرى فيفر من تحمله قدماه ويكون الموت أو الأسر على أحسن الفروض مصير البقية، وحتى بعد الفرار من الأسر تعاني النسوة العائدات من عزل مجتمعي بالغ القسوة ويوصم الجميع بالخيانة والتواطؤ خاصة مع حالات الحمل المتكرر من أعضاء الجماعة
حرص الكاتب على سرد ملابسات إحتلال القرى، حيث تحرص الجماعة على مهاجمة القرى المتاخمة للغابة لسهولة السيطرة عليها بحكم التركيبة السكانية والتي يكون أغلبها من المزارعين وقربها من مناطق نفوذهم في الغابة التي تحولت إلى مايشبه دولة بداخل دولة، كما كان للصراعات الدينية المسلحة دور بارز في عزل القرى عن بعضها خاصة مع هجمات سابقة للجماعة على قرى مسيحية فما كان من السكان المسيحين إلا أن سيجوا قراهم بشكل يصعب على أي غريب الدخول لها ربما مبالغة في الحماية وربما للإنتقام ولو غير المباشر ممن يدينون بنفس دين الجماعة المسلحة، كما كان للخونة دور بارز للغاية في السيطرة على القرى وإحتلالها، حتى بعد السيطرة التامة على القرى تبدأ الجماعة في فرض النفوذ الديني بعد التخلص من كل من يعارض القوانين الجديدة باسم الدين وتطبيق الشريعة، وضع أمير على رأس كل قرية يتراوح دوره بين مجرد تنفيذ الأوامر والإيفاء بمتطلبات القادة أو الحرص على تأمين القرية وتطبيق حدود الله على طريقتهم الخاصة
اللافت للنظر هو عملية غسيل المخ الذي يتعرض له الجميع بلا إستثناء، فالبعض يتحول طواعية لأحد أعضاء الجماعة، لم تسلم النساء المختطفات منه إلى درجة تحول البعض منهم إلى "إنتحاريات" وتفجير أنفسهن في أماكن حيوية في البلد
الكتاب صادم، مرعب وواقعي للغاية، أعجبني طريقة السرد والمعلومات التي جائت في سياقها الصحيح من الشهادات، كما يحسب له الإبتعاد عن التفاصيل المؤلمة والحساسة ، فكان الكتاب تأريخ للشهادة وليس سرد تفاصيل كما جائت بعض الكتب الأخرى، الترجمة ممتازة من دار العربي

نستطيع بسهولة تخيل العذاب المحيط بهم بمجرد وصف الكاتب لغابة"سامبيسا" والتي تتميز بغابات كثيفة وأشجار متشابكة حد أنهم لايشعرون أحياناً بهطول المطر رغم غزارته، تسكن كل أسرة مهما كان عددها حول جذع شجرة بجوار أفاعي الغابة وحيواناتها المختلفة، مما عرض البعض للسعات مميتة خاصة مع عدم توفر الحد الأدنى من الرعاية الطبية والأمصال، كيف يتأتي ذلك في غابة يعجز حتى الجيش النيجيري على مهاجمتها إلا من علو شاهق، تكون دوماً النتيجة هي ضحايا جدد أتغلبهم من النساء والأطفال
لم تكن الغابة فقط هي العذاب الوحيد الذي واجهته النسوة، فالبداية تكون دوماً في مرحلة الخطف نفسها، الهجوم الخاطف للجماعة على القرى فيفر من تحمله قدماه ويكون الموت أو الأسر على أحسن الفروض مصير البقية، وحتى بعد الفرار من الأسر تعاني النسوة العائدات من عزل مجتمعي بالغ القسوة ويوصم الجميع بالخيانة والتواطؤ خاصة مع حالات الحمل المتكرر من أعضاء الجماعة
حرص الكاتب على سرد ملابسات إحتلال القرى، حيث تحرص الجماعة على مهاجمة القرى المتاخمة للغابة لسهولة السيطرة عليها بحكم التركيبة السكانية والتي يكون أغلبها من المزارعين وقربها من مناطق نفوذهم في الغابة التي تحولت إلى مايشبه دولة بداخل دولة، كما كان للصراعات الدينية المسلحة دور بارز في عزل القرى عن بعضها خاصة مع هجمات سابقة للجماعة على قرى مسيحية فما كان من السكان المسيحين إلا أن سيجوا قراهم بشكل يصعب على أي غريب الدخول لها ربما مبالغة في الحماية وربما للإنتقام ولو غير المباشر ممن يدينون بنفس دين الجماعة المسلحة، كما كان للخونة دور بارز للغاية في السيطرة على القرى وإحتلالها، حتى بعد السيطرة التامة على القرى تبدأ الجماعة في فرض النفوذ الديني بعد التخلص من كل من يعارض القوانين الجديدة باسم الدين وتطبيق الشريعة، وضع أمير على رأس كل قرية يتراوح دوره بين مجرد تنفيذ الأوامر والإيفاء بمتطلبات القادة أو الحرص على تأمين القرية وتطبيق حدود الله على طريقتهم الخاصة
اللافت للنظر هو عملية غسيل المخ الذي يتعرض له الجميع بلا إستثناء، فالبعض يتحول طواعية لأحد أعضاء الجماعة، لم تسلم النساء المختطفات منه إلى درجة تحول البعض منهم إلى "إنتحاريات" وتفجير أنفسهن في أماكن حيوية في البلد
الكتاب صادم، مرعب وواقعي للغاية، أعجبني طريقة السرد والمعلومات التي جائت في سياقها الصحيح من الشهادات، كما يحسب له الإبتعاد عن التفاصيل المؤلمة والحساسة ، فكان الكتاب تأريخ للشهادة وليس سرد تفاصيل كما جائت بعض الكتب الأخرى، الترجمة ممتازة من دار العربي

A short but powerful book on events that happened in 2014 which is 9 years ago from the point I'm writing this review. I haven't been paying attention to what is currently happening in this region. I did have a friend whose daughter was in Peace Corps in Niger and was removed from the region for her safety, and it was probably about this time frame. I know people want to speak badly about the Muslim religion, but I think any government that rules by religion is corrupt. This also goes into a long history of slavery. The lack of respect and the fact there is no value to life is frightening. Heartbreaking.

I remember when this happened. “Bring Back Our Girls” was plastered all over social media. We only had limited info making headlines, which made it seem at the time like there were a few isolated events, not widespread vicious violence. Even though it’s obviously not comprehensive by any means, this book provided more answers, more insights, and more context - something I was craving.
The personal narratives are heartbreaking but completely accessible. They don’t linger on gruesome details. It’s easy to pace your reading and come away feeling all the complicated feelings without having the nightmares that typically make me take breaks between chapters or have to put the book down entirely.
This would be an important addition to any curriculum, in my humble opinion. A short, powerful value-add for conversations around world history, government, religious literacy, human and women’s rights.

Das Buch gibt Frauen eine Stimme, die in ihrer eigenen Gesellschaft nicht erhört werden. Es gibt tiefe Einblicke in die Gesellschaft Nigerias und natürlich in die Terrorgruppe Boko Haram. Sehr lesenswert!

In case you are looking for something real and heartbreaking to read: here you go. I had been meaning to educate myself a bit on Boko Haram for a while, and since I am reading Nigerian books for my readaroundtheworld project, I thought this was perfect to add in even though the author is technically a German journalist. I say "technically" because while this book is put together by Wolfgang Bauer and features passages written by him, the main focus is on the verbatim interviews of woman and girls kidnapped by the terror organization. Bauer then fills in the necessary background: the timeline and development of Boko Haram, Nigeria's government's reactions, but also cultural and regional context. Nigeria is intensely culturally diverse: religion, class, languages, lifestyles can vary rapidly from region to region. A sad thing to learn here, aside from the obvious, were that the terrors of Boko Haram was able to ignite further division between the different groups, when for example Muslims and Christians refuse to help each other out of fear of repercussions. Even if terror organizations would leave and never return in a new form, I feel like the cuts made into the country and the people will linger for a long time.
This book is harrowing but also kind of beautiful. The events depicted are the tough part but the way Bauer lets these women tell their stories is beautiful. How he gives them the space here and lets them tell to the exact extent they feel comfortable in sharing. They can share the strength that despite the ordeals they have been through they still possess! The highlight is a list of absolutely gorgeous photos that depict these women, Andy Spyra, the photographer, does an amazing job of capturing these beautiful girls.
What I learnt here is traumatizing, the book is not that graphic but you can fill in every detail. Many of these women were held against there will for months; violence, indoctrination and forced marriage were the norm, men were often killed on sight. Several women had to give birth to children conceived by their abductors, they all carry emotional and physical scars from their ordeal. Of course this is hard to read but whenever a pick up a book like this that deeply cuts into the real life Horrors from around the globe I feel like that is the respect these victims deserves. To not lean back on my cushy couch and excuse that I cannot read about tough subjects: these women had to live these terrors, the least I can do is listen to their story.
The book is from 2016 and my research tells me that currently Boko Haram is described as destroyed since they assassinated their leader Shekau. But if this book teaches you one thing it is that losing a leader and temporary fallback has not stopped Boko Haram in the passed, and I also read that Nigeria's military struggles in maintaining control of the regained areas of the country... so it doesn't seem this is truly over. And how could it? Religious extremism never seems to die, it only changes names and remains the source of the some of the worst atrocities in this world. Because the bottom line is the unhealthy desire for power and control and that seems insatiable in humans.

Vi ricordate delle donne sequestrate, stuprate e schiavizzate da Boko Haram in Nigeria? Che fine hanno fatto dopo la loro liberazione? Bauer è andato in Nigeria a raccogliere le testimonianze di alcune di loro: si tratta di storie da affrontare in maniera delicata, sia per le vicende in sé, sia per la vita attuale di queste donne, che non sono al sicuro da altre violenze da parte di Boko Haram, né dallo stigma che colpisce chi ha subito una violenza sessuale.
Quindi ho apprezzato tantissimo il passo indietro fatto dall'autore: le protagoniste indiscusse sono le donne e le loro storie, che vengono presentate in forma di racconti diretti. L'autore interviene solo per dare un po' di contesto ai racconti, in modo da renderli il più chiari possibile allə lettorə.
Sui racconti in sé non c'è molto da aggiungere: sono di quelle storie che si ascoltano in silenzio, con rispetto. Viene da pensare però che gli estremismi sono tutti parenti: in occidente ci sembrano un male tanto grande - e lo sono, eh, non fraintendetemi - da farci ritenere impossibile che qualcunə possa seguirli volontariamente.
Eppure sono così simili agli estremismi di casa nostra! Il fatto che i "nostri" ci sembrino più civili dipende unicamente dal contesto nel quale ci troviamo: difficile fare proselitismo in Italia andando in giro ad ammazzare i maschi e a rapire le femmine per sposarle con la forza ai propri seguaci. Qui si preferiscono imporre idee di famiglia naturale ed egoismi contro natura, di difesa della vita fin dal concepimento, di mutilazioni genitali per non mettere a disagio le altre persone, di binarismo di genere perché maschi e femmine li creò, e via di questo passo. Sembra tutto meno violento di ciò che fa Boko Haram, ma ognuna di quelle idee, se messa in pratica tramite leggi o consuetudini, è capace di uccidere.
Non riesco proprio a fare una classifica tra i vari estremismi: sono tutti orribili, tutti portatori di dolore, sopraffazione e morte. Guardo le idee delle quali si fanno portatori e gli atti che si compiono in loro nome e vedo solo il buio di un totale disprezzo per i diritti umani.
Non si sa come uscirne e nemmeno questo libro ha la soluzione: ma ascoltare le vittime e le sopravvisute è un buon inizio. Per capire cosa è successo, di cosa hanno bisogno, come fare a dare un aiuto concreto. Per capire che stiamo combattendo la stessa guerra, solo su fronti diversi.

This is a book that makes me question my belief in human nature. Brutal. Cruel beyond words. and true.
This is a book that reports interviews with women and girls who were taken by Book Haram for reasons 'way more terrible than the public "Allah Akbar" narrative: while their actions were wrapped in the flag of religious fervor, it's obvious that the pure flex of power, guns, and money are, in fact, the reasons for the rapes, mutilations, beheadings, murders, fires, and decimation that they cause. A leader who proclaims that selling women is God's message to him, that marrying women to his soldiers will produce a new generation of true believers (his beliefs being such that even Muslims must undergo religious training, since their understanding is wrong) Young men with guns, knives, the thrill of the hunt, the murder of everyone, the more cruel, the better.
The interviews are woven with explanations, background: how Boko Haram arose, how it's changed, how money was spent to both bolster and fail to destroy it. It tells of the many people of northern Nigeria, the history, the geography, the culture, the trade routes. This is that corrupt government, ignorance, and international support brings. Man at his most basic. Man cruel.
An utterly stunning situation. Should be required reading for the world, since we all see parallels everywhere.

This book is about the abduction of 276 girls from a local boarding school in Chibok, Nigeria in 2014. The abduction was carried out by Boko Haram, a Nigerian terrorist organization that wishes to overthrow the government and establish one based on Islamic law. Some of the girls were able to escape, later to be interviewed by the author of this book.
The stories in this book were deeply emotional. I cannot imagine being in this type of situation. I thought the author did a good job of communicating the stories of the people in this book. I also learned a great deal about Boko Haram. I remember reading about this incident in the news, but I didn't know much about the organization before reading this book. As a side note, this book was about five hours to listen to on Audible, and is available on Audible Plus to listen to for free right now.

This did a very good job of explaining the details surrounding the stolen women and girls of Boko Haram. I had to mentally prepare myself every time I opened this book, because between the mixture of a succinct writing style, devastating facts, and beautiful pictures, it was all just so harrowing. I really recommend this book for anyone who might be interested in learning more about Boko Haram or anyone who is interested in women's/human rights. It also includes one of the best maps I've seen on the topic, so the book is worth looking through for that reason alone. The real star of the book is the photographs.
