What if all the pumpkins are gone in the evening of All Saints' Day?
And Oh no ... the younger brother who disguised as a pumpkin disappeared too...
It was a noisy, merry evening in the small, cozy town. In each yard on this evening there was a lit Jack-o'-lantern and ghosts and skeletons are walking along the street. It is the evening of All Saints' Day. On this day, it is possible to dress up in any costume, wear a mask, and go for a walk late to collect sweets!
Emma, a red-haired little girl of eight years old, waited impatiently for the evening of All Saints' Day. She was very fond of sweets and so today, she wanted to collect as many candies as possible! Emma had a little brother called John. He was a cheerful and inquisitive child. That's why funny things happened to him. John sat in front of the door and was dressed in a Halloween pumpkin fancy dress costume. Emma waited impatiently for the dark night to fall on the town.
But something strange happened this evening, and everything went wrong... All the pumpkins on the whole street had disappeared. Her brother John was gone too.

This is a great picture book for 3-8 year olds. It's a spooky, not scary Halloween book that will make a great addition to your Halloween reads. The illustrations are paintings and are very nice. Emma is ready to go trick-or-treating but the lights on the street went out. She looked outside and all the pumpkins on the whole street were gone. She looked down and her brother was gone, too. He was dressed like a pumpkin. She knew who had him. The witch across the street. The house was creepy and spooky. She went to look in the windows and saw the pumpkins and her brother playing on the floor. What happened when she saw the witch? Was her brother ok? How do we find out? Do we have to wait for Halloween? Reading/listening is the best way to find out.
The illustrations were bold and definitely eye catching. I understand this genre is to reach a young audience, but there were many editing issues. I would consider altering my review rating if it is corrected. I just believe that if you target a young audience, any audience, the spelling, wording, grammar and any other editing should be correct. I do love the theme and the storyline.
Very nice short story with a good message. Excellent illustrations, which alternate with pages of text. I wish the Kindle edition let you see both pages at the same time, but then the text would probably have been too small. (-and it is really not that big a deal to swipe back and forth if you want to - but nonetheless I might be more inclined to get it in non-electronic form if I was to give it as a gift.) This would be a good 'read to me' story, and is equally appropriate for young readers. Highly recommended!
My 4 year old enjoyed this story of kindness and finding friendship in unexpected places. It was a useful book for introducing the Halloween festival and customs in a light hearted way. The illustrations are beautiful though the text could do with some proofreading for grammar and slightly odd word choices here and there.
I chose the 5 star rating because this story was so lovely.... it teaches you not to judge a book by its cover. The illustration was lovely.. The art was so amazing and beautiful. I myself love the whole story my daughter's favorite part was the party.
It makes a cute Halloween story for kids, there a few words that they didn't understand but I don't necessarily dislike the idea because it teaches them more difficult words than they are used to. For instance distribute candy rather than hand out candy or give away candy. All in all it was a cute book and I loved the illustrations!
It is a sweet story about the Halloween time and about friendship, although it is a children's book it has an important message, "One should not be left alone, and when it does not happen people flourish". The illustrations are very good and it's so simple to read that i think children will really like it.
I gave this story 3 out of 5*, it's a fun way to pass a few minutes.
I really enjoyed this book and its storyline. It's easy to read and easy to understand.I like the book graphics.I would definitely recommend this book.
I haven't read Aaron Adams before, but he did a great job with this book about friendship! I like the way he started the story and then finished it up.
