I’m a sucker for maps and I liked the accompanying description of the fantasy land in the prologue.
The synopsis pretty much covers all that needs to be said about the plot which built nicely throughout. The main characters Atillus, Aella, Dakesh and Athanasius are introduced in great detail with good backstories that carry them through this fiery introductory instalment. I have to agree with another reviewer that Aella’s story is my favorite.
So this is more to do with writing style than the plot, personally I needed way more dialogue. The descriptions, while well done and captivating, told too much of the story. I wanted to hear more from the characters through more interaction. It wouldn’t stop me reading the sequels though, and I look forward to more from Wright!

God, heroes, fire magic, battles and a sense of right and wrong. This book delves into several points of view of the characters. I really enjoyed reading Aella’s chapters. She had a power within her that was all-consuming. Her loyalty and outlook on life was brilliant. I don’t want to give anything away and spoil it for others but I will say that the description in this book is amazing! A good debut novel by Brendan Wright.

An incredible first novel! Brendan Wright's first novel displays an incredible knack for world building creating distinct and diverse cultures with thought and skill. His characters though all warriors show their respective tribes distinctive training methods, family relationships, and magical influences. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that there is some repetition of scenes when certain events are told from another character's point of view. Overall, a very enjoyable story and I am anxious to read the next installment. Well done, Brendan!

Alright, so I couldn't review this book properly. Now I'm gonna do that...
This whole plot was new to me when I read it for the first time, so I read this book again! Although I fell in love with the world the story's been built in, from the beginning.
The author has an impressive imagination, and the whole plot is creative!
Good job with your debut novel, Brendan! Can't wait to read its next part.
PS: Loved the map! It clearly shows your hard-work. Keep up the great work!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Gods and Heroes: Rise of Fire. I was quickly invested in each of the characters and found it hard to put the book down at the end of the night because I just had to know what would happen next. The world is rich with detail and culture, and the characters are complex and interesting. I can't wait for the next in the series!

I instantly loved the world, it was built very well, and the plot is really good. I enjoyed it so much. There were so many moments of had me at the edge of my seat. but I did have trouble connecting with the characters, there are four main characters and although there’s only four they have so many characters that come with each of them. and I feel like so many were introduced at one time so that was a little difficult. but overall I completely recommend this book especially if you loved, Percy Jackson, house of Anubis, the reawakened, aru shah, basically stuff that goes along with mythology, even though it doesn’t quite exact any of them it has that kind of vibe about it. Highly recommend it!!

Brilliant debut!
As a fellow writer, I am in awe of fantasy writers who can develop whole worlds, cultures societies and religions – and that’s before even touching on the magical elements and their own set of lore. Brendan’s world building is evocative and nuanced. Similarly, the characters and their relationships with family, friends and inter societal were textured, complex and believable. I could understand the characters emotions/reactions to events. The differering points of view offered varied perspective of the narrative, which was enjoyable – though I did forgot a couple of storylines when there was a lengthy gap between and had to go back and find where it left off so I could pick the threads back up. All in all, this is a great debut from Brendan, I have already bought the next book and will be completing the series.

Bought on a whim after chatting with the author, and then completely and utterly hooked after 2 pages.
Not only is this book is beautifully written, the story is interesting and well thought out. The plot is always moving, characters come and go, and you just know that he’s leading up to something pretty big. The world building is done really well - I was totally immersed in the world and in the characters. Loved it!

Great first book in the series by Brendan Wright. Very enjoyable, and hooks you from the moment you enter the world of Pandeia. Do yourself a favour and read it now.

This is a first for me by Brendan it is well written and has some pretty great characters I enjoyed the world building and story.

This story reads so well, you'll be turning page after page, refusing to put the book down. The writing is reminiscent of David Gemmell's and Mathew Reilly's, with a voice and tone that distinguishes Brendan's own. The detail that has gone into building the world of Pandeia is exceptional; you'll think you're reading historical fiction because of its mythological feel. The characters are epic and relatable. The artwork mapping the world of Pandeia brings this story to life, and Brendan spared no expense in its creation.
