Sweet Southern Magic

Rate this book
Sweet Southern Magic includes the first three books in the Sweet Tea Witch Mysteries series: Southern Magic, Southern Spells, and Southern Myths.

Southern Magic

It only takes a second for life to go to heck-in-a-hand basket! In less than 24 hours, Pepper Dunn loses her job, her boyfriend, and her home. It's the worst day of her life.

But when Pepper discovers she’s a witch and has inherited the most important store in the magical town of Magnolia Cove, Alabama, she’s as happy as a pig in mud. Too bad the shop is a familiar pet store and Pepper doesn’t like animals - not even a teensy bit.

Determined to sell the shop and get the heck out of town, Pepper’s plans go haywire when a local storeowner winds up dead and Pepper gets accused of murder. Thrust into a magical mystery, Pepper teams up with a mysterious private detective and a cat so traumatized by the murder that she’s not talking - and that cat could hold the key to Pepper’s innocence.

Now, Pepper must avoid trouble, solve the mystery, and placate her new grandmother, who keeps a strict 10 p.m. curfew that’s enforced by the talking end of her shotgun.

Sounds like a simple day in the life - as if. Can Pepper solve the mystery? Or will she become the next victim of the Magnolia Cove murderer? And most importantly, will Pepper learn to love the animals she’s in charge of?

Southern Spells

All Pepper Dunn wants is a quiet life in the witchy town of Magnolia Cove, Alabama. But when the Cotton and Cobwebs Festival arrives, her dream goes up in smoke. This year, grandmother Betty is determined to win the award for best magical creature against Melbalean Mayes, the contest matron. To win, Betty needs Pepper’s help.

But when Melbalean winds up dead and Betty is accused of the murder, Pepper is thrust into one role she never expected: She must complete a list of chores that keeps her town running.

Pepper has her hands full - she must ensure the safety of her town, try to clear Betty’s name, and make sure no one else winds up a victim of the Magnolia Cove murderer. Can she do it? Or will she become the next victim?

Southern Myths

Just when Pepper Dunn starts accepting her ability to communicate with animals, she’s thrown for a loop - an egg containing a baby dragon winds up on her doorstep.

Convinced the creature will grow up to become a destructive force of nature, Pepper gives the dragon to the first person interested in buying - a traveling magician named Mysterio, who claims he can communicate with the dead.

Relieved to be free of the creature, Pepper’s world turns upside down when Mysterio reveals that he has a message for Pepper from her dead mother. Pepper can’t wait to discover what it is. But before she has a chance to find out, Mysterio is murdered.

Left with a set of clues, Pepper is determined to discover the information her mother wanted her to know. But will untangling the mess of clues lead Pepper on the right path, or will it lead her straight into the hands of the murderer?

Outstanding

This is an amazing series. Pepper Dunn has a cool family who is always there to help her when she's in danger. I adore her and her cousins, Amelia and Cordelia. But the best character in the series is her grandma, Betty Craple. A highly entertaining and an enjoyable read.

First of all if you want more in-depth reviews on each book on their own you can absolutely find them on my page! I cannot recommend this box set more! If you need a feel good read these books deliver time and time again! A little background on the story as a whole is Pepper is faced with finding out on her 25th year that she is a witch! Her uncle Donovan (who had a sort of mysterious untimely passing) sent her a package including a key that would absolutely turn her life upside down. With nothing to lose other than a dead best boyfriend and an apartment she was getting kicked out of anyway she takes a chance and moves to the witching town of Magnolia Cove. To Pepper’s absolute delight and surprise we see that she has an entire family she never knew about! Grandma Betty who runs the town, Cordelia and Amelia her amazing cousins, and Mint and Licky; Pepper’s naughty witch aunts. Pepper inherits the Familiar Place! A shop where witches come to match with their animal counterpart for life. Not only is Pepper a new witch but she runs THE MOST important store in Magnolia Cove. Every murder is so fun to solve, every interaction is so fun, and every page delivers a warm smile! The last book in this set really sets you up for the next round of stories! And it’s wonderful that nine of these books are available in sets, I went ahead and bought all of them in advance. When you find stories you love I believe you should always dive right in!

Is Pepper a witch or not?

Pepper Dunn has just celebrated her 25th birthday and her life in Nashville has fallen apart. She has received a letter and a key from her Uncle Donavon,a relative she didn't know she had telling her she has inherited her Uncle's business in Magnolia Cove. With no job, no place to live and a boyfriend who doesn't care about her, she heads to Magnolia Cove with a cat who adopted her. Once she arrives, she is greated by her deceased mothers family who tell her she is a witch who has come into her powers on her 25th birthday. She finds out she can talk to animals and the store she has inherited is a shop that matches witches with their familiars. She also has a man who is trying to abduct her to gain her powers. In each of the following books, she has a murder to solve. Each one stranger than the first. Great books, am looking forward to the next ones.

A cozy mystery series involving witches in a small town in Alabama. Seems like every author who writes with this theme throws in something quirky. In this series, the witches ride skillets with long handles and cushioned seas. Pepper Dunn is the main character. She's just turned 25 and is discovering her magic. Her mother died at childbirth, and although her father died two years ago, her mother's side of the family hasn't bothered to try to contact her. That I find unbelievable. I suppose that sort of thing happens in real life, but still....
So Pepper Dunn inherits the Familiar Place in the small own, and she can communicate with the animals therein. And it turns out she has a knack for matching witches to their familiars. The mysteries all involve murders that she, Pepper, gets involved in. And there's the obligatory hunk she just drools over. Some things you just have to stick to formula.

Overall: 4.3 stars
Southern Magic: 4 stars
Southern Spells: 5 stars
Southern Myths: 4 stars

This set of Witch & Wizard Mysteries is delightful. Pepper Dunn goes from an unemployed, homeless human to a witches' familiar pet shop owner in Magnolia Cove, where only witches can enter. Unfortunately, a banned witch is after her powers. The ones she doesn't know about. Furthermore, people keep getting murdered in circumstances she feels she must deduce the murderers. Along the way, she becomes enamored with the private detective, Alex.

The series includes some cliffhangers; however, many stories have already been published. Make sure the following title is available before getting wound up. Each tale is self-contained concerning the current murder; however, some pieces reach beyond each volume. Overall, light reading to enjoy.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Romantic. Scary. Tragic. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

This is the set of books 1-3 of the Sweet Southern Magic series. They are all light hearted mysteries. When a girl finds out on her 25 th birthday that she’s a witch and had a whole family of other witches in a small Alabama witch town. Sounds complicated, but isn’t really. The characters are all well developed with their own idiosyncrasies. Quite amusing banter between characters, which are all either one of the different variety of witches, Wizards, or other paranormal creatures/people. It’s great fun and easy to read. No deep sex scenes, so even the young can read. Easy to recommend these!

Three Books to Read and Enjoy!

Pepper Dunn has found out that she has inherited a pet shop and a whole new family including a Grandma and lots of cousins. The pet shop is really different. The pets are there for witches without familiars to choose from. Before Pepper even gets used to having a new family and a pet shop she gets involved with a series of murders and the gift of a new born dragon familiar. Can she handle it all plus falling for the most unique gorgeous man? Read and enjoy!

unsatisfying

The stories were interesting, but the spelling and other errors were too much. Plus each book ending on a high cliffhanger so we’d get the next book, which would end in a cliffhanger doesn’t appeal to me at all. Writing wasn’t crisp and sharp either. Some of the sentences didn’t make any sense. Made me wonder if it was proof read at all. Glad I found this as a freebie. Most unsatisfying.

Pepper finds a home

I must confess that I had read Book 1 previously, but I was still sufficiently intrigued that I kept turning the pages until I got to Book 2. The same thing happened in Books 2 and 3.
Wonderful characters, whom are like long lost friends by the time book 3 ends, what would life be like without Betty? Pepper is a charmer with a wonderful sense of humour. She is surrounded by family and friends in Magnolia Cove. The mysteries unfold in such a way that the focus is not too much on the perpetrators but rather on the unfolding of the plots to reveal the perpetrators. I did not even find myself guessing their identities, focus was too much on the developing stories.
Go ahead and read, you will enjoy.

Magical fantasy set of three cozy mysteries - a very absorbing read

Enchanting, exciting characters and absorbing mysteries. I became a voracious reader of cozy witch mysteries from the first page of this set. The stories are intricately woven with a lot of care and specific details, making me unable to put these books down. They cast a spell on me! Thank you, Amy Boyles, for this wonderful introduction to Magnolia Cove and its inhabitants.

Too sweet

I enjoyed this box set of the first three books in the series. The characters are a bit reminiscent of other series in the genre but still enjoyable. There are a few too many grammatical errors that are hard to overlook but they don’t take away from the story. I will likely continue with the series as they are easy to read.

3 book series

Pepper starts off as a whiner who has lost her job and her apartment. She leaves town ending up in Magnolia Cove. And there she finds her life's work and a family, her grandmother and cousins. The books get more interesting as you move through the series. The murders are almost secondary.

Really fun but terrible editing!

This was a series that I really enjoyed but, when even I notice the terrible editing, something needs to be said. In many, many places the wrong word is inserted. I ignored it at first but it continued. And grammar errors were awful. The stories and characters were fun. Sometimes the plot was easy to see through, but it was still worth the read.

Entertaining Light Summer Reading

Enjoyable and perplexing mysteries.
Fun characters but I really wish the heroine was a little less naive and didn't act so clueless so often.
The way the characters behave is, I imagine, supposed to be cute but it, frequently winds up being annoying.
A good diversion.

This audiobook has three full-length novels. Books 1-3 in the series.

I like the vastly different array of characters. The mysteries are well-written with good flow and unexpected twists here and there. The first book was a little slower, but there was a lot of character development going on. Books two and three really hit the mark.

Captivating

Between the great storyline, the adorable characters and the great writing, this bundle has captured me so much that it took me two sittings to finish it. If only wish Magnolia Cove was real! Highly recommended.

Cute!

Paranormal cozy mystery with a splash of a slow boil romance and a community full of quirky characters. I enjoyed it, but it felt like it read slowly for me. Not sure how many others of this series I’ll read.

Hocus pocus

Liked the characters, straight to the plots, easy to read on a breezy afternoon. The stories dont quite follow each other but a few twists and turns help to keep you reading.

Trivial Fluff

I started with this set because I usually enjoy stories about magic and witch craft. But this was so silly and farfetched that I only kept reading because i needed something like this as I recovered from an illness! I won't be continuing the series.

This book is not one I usually like! But it is told in such a way that no matter what kind of a book you like, you will like it! It's fast paced and different enough to keep any reader interested. So sit back and get ready to be entertained.
