Again, another entertaining and fun read. Plus a few giggles here and there. All the characters bring something to these stories. The brains. The goofy. The twins tantrums. It's a great mix.
There was one illustration in this book (page: 305) that was surprisingly deep. It was of the kids standing in front of one of the first Concentration Camps in Germany. That's an illustration that made me pause and take a moment.
I'm really enjoying this series tho and while this is currently the last book in it that I own, the rest are on my Christmas List for 2021.
I thought the book Treasure Hunters Secret of the Forbidden City was amazing. I thought the vocabulary was a little bit challenging but I was able to handle it. The pictures took great care to do, I thought they were good pictures because it showed all the action that was happening in the paragraph. The story spoke for its self, it was great. So many great action parts where you thought the Kidds might get caught by Dionysus Streckting but then they would hatch up some ridiculous plan, and it would always work. That's why I gave this wonderful book the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I did give it.
This middle grade series was chock full of interesting historical tid bits. Kids get a little history lesson while reading about treasure hunting kids trying to find their parents. It's very action packed and quite funny at times. The illustrations are hilarious as well.
It was AMAZING, I also think this is the last book in the series, but I would totally read another one. I don't want to spoil it but there is a really awesome part at the end that all the books have been leading up to.
I'll let you in on a little secret. I've never cared much for James Patterson. Nothing personal, JP, but I've just never liked your writing. So what am I doing reading a middle grade James Patterson novel? The cover and premise drew me in folks and I thought maybe, just maybe, it would be better than my previous attempts at reading the drivel that James Patterson writes.
So I read the first two books in the series and I was all like, "nope, still don't like James Patterson or his writing." And you would think I would stop there. I fully intended to stop there, but much like a car accident that you just can't look away from I found myself reading this last iteration in his Treasure Hunters series.
Impossibly, this book was worst than the first two. It was so bad, in fact, it took me three days to read it because I kept losing interest, getting distracted, and/or just not caring.
I can't imagine a middle school aged child reading this. It's too tedious and while the drawings help there's simply nothing interesting, amusing, or page turning about this tome to keep a kid interested. It couldn't even keep me interested.
Review for „Treasure Hunters: Secret of the Forbidden City” by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein:
It’s the third book of the Treasure Hunters series through which the two American bestseller authors, James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein are introducing us into the adventurous world of the Kidds. One of the most important stops is one of the countries filled with legends, namely China. The Kidd family’s children go on a treasure hunt to retrieve an artifact which would help them rescue their mother from the clutches of pirates. Although they’re caught in a race against time, our heroes will also discover the mysteries of the Forbidden City. Cleverness, bravery, intelligence, friendship and determination are what every adventurer need. „Treasure Hunters: Secret of the Forbidden City” is a novel from which every reader can find out something about the culture, traditions and even about the traditional foods of our heroes’ destinations. I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages.
The book I chose is called Treasure Hunters and it is about the Kidd family and how they are trying to find the secret ming vases to give to the bad guys in return for the freeing of their mother. The character I chose is Storm she is the brains of the group. And there is no way that they would have found the vases without her. She is also the most mature and can do any equation or statistic she is given. And that comes in handy when you are trying to find out how deep the ocean is or where the vases are.
Treasure Hunters Secret of the Forbidden City By:James Patterson
My story took place in the modern times of China. The main characters were Bick, Beck, Tommy, and Storm/Stephanie.The characters in this book don’t really seem believable in my opinion because you don’t really see 4 kids diving in random oceans and finding treasures to find their parents. The main characters are shown in the book as smart and tough.I liked the book because it had a good twist in it.
The Kidd kids didn't get the ending they were hoping for after recovering priceless vases in Africa, but their mom's kidnappers just want a little more, and then they'll free her...honest. So what can they do but keep going, looking for a mysterious treasure that the smelly German villain wants them to find?
If my synopsis above sounds a bit ridiculous, that's because the story is a bit ridiculous. The Kidds just get yanked from one country to another, while their parents' freedom and safety is dangled in front of them. But since they can't decide from one chapter to the next whether they believe their parents are even alive (all except Bick, the narrator, who has never wavered in his certainty that they're both alive), I'm not sure what, exactly, they're really chasing after. This series continues to be both enjoyable and annoying. The Twin Tirades continue to be obnoxious (#488 was the stupidest one yet—utterly pointless). And there continues to be little details that the authors don't quite get right, like this time attributing the memory of a melody to Storm's photographic memory.
I really don't get what's going on with "Aunt" Bella. Is she good? Is she bad? If "Uncle" Timothy really sent an assassin after her in the previous book, why is it still up in the air whether he is good or bad? Did I miss something, or did the book? Still, there's something energetic about the book, and I found the treasure being hunted for the most interesting one of the series so far (though I certainly am biased). And it was a fun coincidence that there was a Sound of Music reference, when I happened to be reading The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria August von Trapp at the same time. Considering that the series is now up to 8 books, I'm relieved that this book brought the main plots of the series so far to an end. I assume the series will consist of multiple, shorter arcs and am hopeful that the next book will bring something fresh to the story of the Kidd family.
I think the book, Treasure Hunters Secret of the Forbidden City, by James Patterson is an action-packed, thrilling book. Four kids, Bick, Beck, Storm, and Tommy, look for their Mom and Dad just to be reunited. The four kids travel all around the world to reunite with their parents. I have no clue what it would be like if I had to chase my parents around the world to find them. I also can’t think of anyone else that had to complete this daunting challenge just to be reunited with their parents. The writing is very effective because it shows all the conflicts the four kids have to go through. A strength of the book Treasure Hunters Secret of the Forbidden City is that it goes into great detail about all the adventures the kids experience. A weakness of the book is that there are too many criminals to keep track of. I would recommend this book to any classmate who likes an action-packed thrilling book. The book, Treasure Hunters Secret of the Forbidden City, is the last book of the series, and I have read the series in chronological order.

Funny, adventurous, and action is the best way to summarize this book! The plot was amazing, better than any other book I have read. Throughout the whole book you will encounter action and humor. Making you want to read every page in the book. The third book in the "Treasure Hunters" series, possibly the best one in the series in my opinion, Starts with the Kidds family trying to find a Chinese artifact that may free there mother. But as the story transitions, they would need to find priceless paintings stolen by nazis. If you love funny, adventurous, and action books, "Treasure Hunters: Secret of the Forbidden City" is the right book for you. No matter what page you are reading, there will always be funny, adventurous, and action all over it.
I liked this one better than the second one! I continue to love their family dynamic. The Kidd children know what the most important treasure is: family. I loved both the Chinese and German history/culture that I learned. A lot of precious things were lost to the Nazis during WW2, so the Kidd’s are treasure hunting for a higher purpose this time. I love it. I liked that a lot of the plot points tied up in this book too. The reveals and intense scenes were fun. Audio book is fun to listen to.
SPOILERS and book notes: The Chinese had a giant parade in their honor for bringing them the vases and finding the lost ship. I love this about the kidd siblings: “We had read a ton of books, studied everything from math to martial arts, and learned how to take care of ourselves (yes, I’m talking laundry). But the most important lesson was pretty simple: Family comes first. Family even outranks Chinese girlfriends.” Several Picasso paintings were considered lost during World War II, primarily confiscated by the Nazis from Jewish art dealers, but many of these works were later recovered. And the Kidds found one in china! Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, in the heart of Beijing, China: “This is where, on June 3, 1989, Chinese college students gathered to demand free speech and economic justice. The students built a thirty-three-foot papier-mâché statue and called it the Goddess of Democracy, which kind of looked like our Statue of Liberty.” “Could you climb up to its crown?” asked Tommy. Storm ignored him. “Then, of course, there was the ‘tank man,’ who stood alone to block a column of tanks sent into the square to crush the protest.” That is one of THE coolest pictures ever. I love the synonyms that Storm comes up for pigeons: ““A pathetic winged creature. A flying rat. An urban seagull.” I love this about the Kidd family: ““We all believe you,” said Beck. “That’s what families do. We believe in one another even when everybody else thinks we’re nuts.” And then, right there on the bustling sidewalks of Beijing, we had an official Kidd family group hug.” It’s considered polite in china to refuse at least twice before accepting an offer of food etc. and look at Chinese pigeon racing! “Turns out, a bunch of billionaires take their birds to Chinese “country clubs” and pay, like, a thousand dollars to buy their champion fliers a metal ankle band. The banded birds are then placed into pigeon coops and loaded up on a truck. When the truck reaches the starting line, the pigeons are let out of their cages. They take off in a huge flock and head home to their roosts, all the birds flying in different directions. Computers do the math and figure out which bird flew home the fastest.” Now they are in Berlin Germany by the Berlin Wall that was torn down in 1989.” Tommy finally met a girl who doesn’t swoon from his charms! She knows his lines and knows her worth and isn’t an airhead! Hehe. she is a German girl that Tommy knew from his childhood! She helps them! This is her: ““We’ll give you a big reward,” I offered. “Just as soon as we find the treasure we’re hunting.” “Reward?” scoffed the girl. “I do not live my life in the hope of being rewarded for doing what I know is right.” “Well,” said Tommy, wiggling his eyebrows, “I’ve lived mine in the hope of meeting you.” “Some boys never change,” muttered the girl.” “Since we ran out about halfway through the movie, I’ve never actually seen all of The Book Thief. But this brave and feisty German girl reminded me of Liesel Meminger—a character I absolutely loved when I read the book.” Now they are driving the autobahn! “Whoa, wait a second,” said Tommy, squinting at the German girl like, all of a sudden, he had X-ray vision. “Are you Petra? Petra Pichelsteiner?” The German girl finally smiled. “Yes, Thomas. It is good seeing you again.” Tommy sort of blushed. “Wow. You’ve grown up. I mean, you used to be this little girl. Now you’re, well, like I said—you’re all grown up.” “Shall I take that as a compliment?” “Definitely.” Petra takes them to see the “brick wall with raised numbers spelling out the dates 1933–1945. “Those are the years the Dachau Concentration Camp was in operation,” explained the German girl. “It was the first such prison camp erected by the Nazis right after Hitler came to power. Thirty-two thousand deaths were documented right here at Dachau, many of them Jews. Some of them members of my family. The Nazis took their homes, their money, their art, and, finally, their lives.” And they are trying to find the “degenerate art” that the Nazis stole and give it back tot he original owners. Hehehe I love that she finally softens to him: ““Hi. Do you, uh, want to insult me again or something?” “No,” said Petra, with a soft smile. “Viel Glück!” “Is that the sound a German duck makes?” Petra laughed. “No, Thomas. It means good luck.” “Oh. Okay. Thanks.” Tommy smiled at Petra. Petra smiled at him. Beck cleared her throat. “You guys? Can we save the smilefest for later?” “Right,” said Tommy. “Hold that thought, Petra.” I love the picture of all the Kidd kids and Petra swimming toward the parents on The Lost boat! The reunion was so sweet and joyful! “We had crossed all the major oceans and traipsed across four different continents in our quest to put our whole family back together. And it was all worth it for this one golden moment!” And UNLCE TIMOTHY was the bad guy villain traitor the whole time!! Love that she calls him Timothy: ““They’re amazing!” added Petra. “Especially Thomas.” She went up on tiptoe and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. “Wow!” said Tommy. “Petra Pichelsteiner, you are definitely all grown up!”
The third book in James Patterson & Chris Grabenstein's awesomely entertaining adventure series is totally riveting. It's not only a fast-paced and action-packed page-turner; it's also very funny, with well-drawn characters, excellent writing, and lots of fun illustrations by Juliana Neufeld. And it's even educational, giving readers the opportunity to learn about foreign lands, history, and art. I'm not in the middle-grade target audience for this series, but I thoroughly enjoyed it all. The books can be read as stand-alones, but it's better to read them in order of publication.
I loved the book because it had lots of details and good characters.I usually get over a series of books, but I stuck with this series since it started.I liked the setting of this book which was in China. This book had a lot of action and suspense.I would recommend this book to people who like reading new books and action series.
This book is amazing! It makes me so happy at the same time. In this book, the Kidds finally find their parents in the end. I really hope James Patterson makes a sequel with this awesome series!
