Ren Makavoy is one season away from realizing his Major League dreams. Unfortunately, his bad-boy reputation off the field has landed him in hot water. Ren swears his days of drinking, brawling, and seducing starlets are over, but management sees fit to bring in PR to clean up his act. Determined to prove himself as a reputable catcher, his plans of playing along backfire when he comes face to face with the woman who shattered his heart.
She is the last hope of saving his reputation.
And things are about to get a hell of a lot hotter.
This sinfully sexy second-chance romantic dramedy is a stand-alone and spinoff of The Balls in Play Series. Join the rest of the gang from Anything but Minor and Major Love for one last season of love, laughter, and baseball.

*****FIVE STARS***** {ARC Generously Provided by Author}
Even as I settled into the role I was expected to play, I didn’t play it well. I tried everything, and no part of me wanted to forget. Loving her was torture. And the realization that I was still so much in love with her, well, that was the cruelest punishment.
I want to give Kate Stewart the biggest hug, and smooch and then a fist bump because this short story was absolute PERFECTION!! I may have to switch teams and choose Ren McAvoy as my new favorite book boyfriend created by Ms. Stewart!! Who knew this character had it in him to be such a charismatic Hero??!! I don’t think I can find the words to truly express just how much I fell in love with this novella!! It was fabulous from beginning to end and it’s got Kate’s signature ”HOTTER THAN H” steam!! What a terrific addition to the ”Balls in Play” series! If you love Second Chance Romances, this one is sure to steal your hearts!
Ren McAvoy and Erica Wild were once madly in love with each other but one day without an explanation or an apology, Erica packed up and left her life with Ren just when he was making it to the big leagues. For the next two years, Ren will be labeled the “bad boy” of MLB, bedding a different woman every night and having his escapades splattered all over the gossip magazines. When management decides they’ve had enough of his antics they hire a new PR agent to get his reputation back in a favorable light. Ren is shocked and maybe even a little excited to meet his new agent who turns out to be the woman who broke his heart, Erica.
There’s a lot of heated arguments, angst, and comedic moments with all the beloved characters from the previous books. It was terrific to get the chance to spend some more time with Rafe, Alice, Andy, and April! They made for a perfect ensemble cast! I loved SWEEPING THE SERIES so much that I wish Kate would write more installments but I believe this will be the end of it.
Here are my overall ratings:
Hero:5 Heroine:4 Plot:5 Angst:4.5 Steam:5++++++ Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine:5
Several reviews mention that this guy sleeps with a different woman everyday of the 2 year separation. What woman would want this guy back? He slept with over 700 women if those reviews were correct. That's disgusting- in my opinion. His excuse is being broken hearted? If he loved the h so much I think celibacy makes more sense. Just my opinion
You know you’re reading a story by Kate Stewart when the emotions churn in your gut and won’t let up until you’re done. With this novella she gives us a another story in the Balls in Play series and while this is relatively short in comparison it never felt too short. You know how some novellas do that because there isn’t much room and you actually want to delve deeper into the story? Yeah, Kate Stewart doesn’t leave you hanging in this regard. I never felt unsatisfied because the author brushed over some of the aspects.
Ren plays the field. There is no sugar-coating it and while it makes him look totally douch-ey and hurts his and the team’s reputation there is a reason. From beginning to end my heart beat for this man who was so hurt in the past and every second of his fury directed towards the woman who was the cause was just. I felt utterly betrayed on his behalf. When he lashed out I wanted to cheer him on and say “More please.” He is a very caring soul, and I loved that his deepest wish was having a family.
Erica is a PR specialist and was hired to fix Ren’s reputation. She is rather unwilling to take up the job seeing as she left Ren without giving a reason, stealing away from their apartment when he was on training camp. For that alone I hated her. I needed a good enough reason for her to hurt somebody so badly. The author left me hanging for most of the book and I had built up so much dislike for this heroine that I wasn’t sure if I wanted for them to be together. Erica’s attitude and laying blame on Ren for becoming a man-hoe didn’t help much. Thankfully in the end Kate Stewart came through and turned my dislike in grudging acceptance but I have to say that the reason she left wasn’t good enough for me. Not communicating, not explaining, taking away the chance for Ren to understand what was going on and not being upfront? Bad move.
I usually love Kate’s heroines. Erica not so much. Every other time, I would have rated lower, however, the author got my blood boiling with emotion and angst and by the end I could have sworn I’d read a full-length novel by her, that’s as deep she went. I loved that. I loved seeing Ren, Rafe and Andy’s friendship. The ladies’ drunken night, or rather the aftermath of it was pure hilarity. There are a lot of good things to say about this story and not even my dislike for Erica could ruin that. Again, Ms. Stewart came through. I’m a forever fan.
Loved, loved this one!! Kate Stewart is becoming one of my favorite authors. I have no idea how she made such a complete story fit in this novella. Ren! Ren! Ren! Loved him! He was a baseball player at the peak of his career who makes some really bad mistakes after he gets his heart broken. This is a second chance romance and the love/hate chemistry these two have is sooo good. Their banter was funny and witty and when they get together it was definitely explosive. I had so much fun with this one!
Such a great second chance love story. Baseball and the rigorous lifestyle can be tough on any relationship but sometimes when the Love is a Homerun, the love is meant to win the series. Ren and Erica are a couple that went astray but the love never did. When Erica’s job brings her back to face the man she left two years ago, emotions come alive and the truth finally prevails. A wonderful novella that felt like a full story. #LovedIt. ❤️⚾️❤️⚾️❤️⚾️

4.5 stars. I adored Kate Stewart's other 2 "Balls in Play" books and this story was a wonderful addition to that series . Ren and Erica's angsty, emotional story reminded me exactly why I love this author and her writing so much. ⚾️⚾️⚾️
This story is included in the "Team Player " anthology.
Ren Makavoy is one of the best in the MLB. His dream has always been to play baseball for Denver, & now he’s their star catcher. He’s also a gorgeous bachelor playboy who’s getting too much negative attention off the field. All the media seems to care about lately is his personal life. The club has had it with cleaning up his messes & hires the best PR firm in the country to handle him. This is his wake up call. He needs to put all his focus on baseball, but when his ex-girlfriend shows up as his new publicist, he’s stunned. Erica Wild is the only woman he’s ever loved. She gave him everything he’d ever wanted, & then took it all away with no explanation, and left him shattered. He wouldn’t ever give her the chance to ruin him again.
Erica is living in NY and working for a big PR firm. She finds out her new assignment will be to head to Arizona for spring training where she will represent her ex Ren Makavoy for the entire season while trying to repair his reputation. He’s a PR nightmare, & she’s going to have to try and make his headlines positive, while attempting to not let her feelings for him get in the way. She’s nervous about having to face him for the first time in two years. He’d once been hers, and now he was like a stranger. Her life was about to revolve around baseball and Ren.
-I knew if he glanced my way, I’d be paralyzed where I stood, like the first time I saw him three years ago. No other man I’d ever met had the soul-stealing eyes of Ren Makavoy. And no man ever would.
-Two years. Two fucking years I’d waited to set eyes on her again, and I was going to take my time.
-She was every bit of the woman I remembered, but even more beautiful.
Ren & Erica still have that undeniable chemistry and connection they can’t deny. They both have anger & resentment toward each other, but also love. Both are playing it cool & trying to be professional, but eventually the fire between them can’t be contained any longer. Can they work through their past & have a future together, or will trust issues hold them back?
This novella was amazing!!! It was super funny, deliciously hot, & a fabulous second chance love story. I’ve been so excited to finally get Makavoy & just loved his story! We also get to catch up with Rafe, Alice, Andy & April since Rafe is Ren’s teammate. This novella is a part of the Balls in Play series & also included in the Team Player anthology.
No one does romcom like Kate Stewart. I don’t know what it is but she knows exactly what I like and want from a romantic comedy and Sweeping The Series delivers. Ren and Erica has history. 1 year together history which ended badly. Now they’re working together to save Ren’s reputation both on and off the baseball field.
I love their chemistry which is incredible. Right off the bat I feel their attraction which turns into a beautiful love. Their bantering is hot as hell and so is the sex. I love the push and pull which adds humor and sexual tension to the story. There’s so much more to their break up and I enjoyed the little hints here and there. When the reason is revealed it’s done with so much emotion and heart. The characters from the Ball in Play books make an appearance and boy is it a funny one. The guys Rafe, Andy and Ren are protective of their women. The ladies Alice and April knows how to bring out the laughs. Poor Rafe;) What a way to get a black eye. LOL!
This novella is nothing but a homerun! It’s hilarious and sexy as heck. I’m sitting here with a huge grin on my face thanks to Kate Stewart.
Kate Stewart has quickly become one of my auto-click authors. Her romantic comedies are among the very best, and the third installment in this series with Ren and Erica is by far my favorite. Stewart knocked it out of the ballpark!
The chemistry sizzles from start to finish – even when angry and revengeful. And believe me, enough tension to snap a rubber band. The history between this couple isn’t pretty. And Erica is holding back from telling Ren the whole reason for why she left him.
After two-year separation, Ren needs help getting his career back on track and cleaning up some ugly messes he made off the field. Erica is assigned the job. And it isn’t going to be easy. But love isn’t always easy. And there’s bound to be some angst and a few twists to overcome.
Characters from the other books make appearances and share in a little fun and games. But don’t worry – this is a stand-alone. Of course, you’re sure to want to read the first two books once you get a glimpse of what you’ve missed.
On and off the field, you’ll find quick-witted bantering, snappy one-liners, mind-blowing sexual encounters, and a heart and soul match-up!
Sweet and short novella, read as part of the Team Player Anthology. Ren and Erica were both extremely likable, and overall this was hot. Totally recommend!
I am loving this whole Kate Stewart series. I know that the first 2 books are from 2016 - but seriously check them out for a great romance sporty read! This 3rd book, was released in a big anthology of novellas(that I can't seem to find anymore) - and is now newly released as a standalone( I got it from Kindle Unlimited). For a longer novella it is just as in depth from start to finish as a regular length novel. It didn't feel too short at all!!
I'm not a huge rom-com reader - but I seriously need to look into more of these reads - the one liners won me over!!! Ren and Erica were hilarious, swoony, and had great chemistry! I even see potential for a few more books from this crowd of friends!!!
I read this novella part of Team Player: A Sport Romance Anthology. Considering this is short story, Kate Stewart managed to squeeze all important parts into it - interesting story where my chest was aching and I fell in love with both MC.
Sweeping the Series is a romantic comedy novella about Ren, a womanizer who seems to spend more time feeding the tabloids with salacious stories than focusing on his career as a major league baseball catcher. Erica is the PR representative hired to clean up his image. Oh, and she’s also his ex-girlfriend/love of his life. There’s a love/hate dynamic between them that gives off all kinds of sparks.
This is a standalone story, but if you’ve read Anything but Minor or Major Love, you’ll be thrilled to know that Rafe and Alice, as well as Andy and April, return to support Ren.
There are many things to enjoy here: the second chance romance, the wonderful friendships, and the wounded bad boy angle. There’s a little bit of cheese towards the end, but I couldn’t help but root for Ren and Erica to get back together and make sweet, sweet (or dirty) love. My favorite thing about the novella is that it’s pee your pants funny. I swear I laughed so hard my stomach hurt and tears rolled down my face. The main culprits: April and Alice. Oh, how I missed this crazy crew! If you haven’t read the other books in the Balls in Play series, do yourself a favor and pick them up.
Kate Stewart never fails to make me both fall in love and laugh out loud. This was just as good as I knew it would be. Ericka & Ren were adorable and deserved a second chance. I also really loved Alice and April which I've now found out that books 1 and 2 are their stories. I'll be reading those very soon!
After reading Andy's book, Major Love, we get a few glimpses of Ren as Andy was his coach. After that, I got super curious about this character and I was super happy to see there was a novella about him. This novella was amazing! This was a second-chance romance that had so many emotions and raw feelings. It was really good. Ren was the new catcher at the game and was getting ready to the most important part of his career. That is if he got control of his reputation and his extra-curricular activities that were being displayed all over the country, showing him as a big man-whore and killing his athlete image. After seeing just how much damage he did, he decided that enough was enough and got his stuff together. At the same time, a new PR arrived to help him and he was surprised to see that the new PR was the only woman he ever loved and the one that left him years ago out of nowhere. Erica had her reasons, although she acted extremely wrong and knew it, she was thrust into the baseball game all over again. She has reasons to hate the game, but her love for the hotshot player never ceased to exist.
This novella was a great read. It was sweet, hot, exciting, funny and cute. I read this book in the Balls in Play Box Set and I loved every part of it. The best part was at the end, where there was a bonus about these both couples, Alice and Rafe, and Ren and Erica. It was so much fun!!! I loved it. This is a great series and I loved every second of it. <3
Book was too short to pull any emotion from me. (120pgs) They broke up 2 yrs ago, and he, a pro baseball player, turned into a slut while she remained faithful til the bitter end.
...” I swallowed, “Even though I saw you with all those women, I couldn’t stop wanting you. And I never will.”
Spoilers
And the reason for the break up, Her father was a pro baseball player who was never there for her family and broke her moms heart constantly. So she dumped the H, because she thought he would act like her dad when he went pro, and she was proven right! He did turn into a huge manwhore, but she ran off without explaining why she left, and refused to speak to him, then when she saw him again she wanted him back anyway??? Wtf.
when she sees him again hired as his PR to clean up his rep, what does she do, “she feels a spark of hope,”🙄 lets him see her crying, shes a total mess around him and it only took 24 hrs, he doesn’t want her back, she gets drunk and sends him pics of her boobs, and when they eventually have sex, they don’t even use a condom, remember he fucked a different girl every night. 🤮She’s so immature and pathetic, what a fucking moron, seriously🙄.
He was saying he turned to ow because he was hurt, but it spiraled out of control, whatever. Him turning into a slut didn’t bother me at all, the dumb ass Mary Sue doormat did. The book made it seem like she needed to grovel for dumping him, but he did turn out to be just like her dad, and the book was too short to show me that he was different.
What an annoying 2nd chance book…120 pages isn’t long enough to explain their drama.
Safety No cheating when they meet again. 1 ow scene in the beginning before seeing h again. Ow is a hot actress. H went on a date with the ow he fucked in chapter 1 after having sex with the h. He went on this date without telling the h, she finds out reading the paper. He said because she refused to speak to the ow pr( h is not only a moron but unprofessional). The date was a pr stunt and he didn’t sleep with her that night, although the ow wanted to. H as a slut after they broke up. Doormat remained celibate.
Sweeping the Series (Balls in Play #3) by Kate Stewart
OH, HOW I LOVE THE BALL MEN!!! Holy Moly!!!! This book is hot! Ren is a catcher bad boy extraordinaire… drinking, brawling and bedding his way to Denver. With the world series looming, management wants the fans to focus more on baseball and less on who Ren will stick his wood into next. They hire a PR company to help clean up Ren’s image. Erica is the lucky winner sent to Denver. Erica knows she is screwed the moment she finds out whose image she is to make squeaky clean – her past lover of one year. Erica and Ren were inseparable back in college. Ren had his future all planned out and it included Erica by his side and possibly a few kids running around, but Erica had other ideas. She abruptly moved to New York, leaving Ren no possible choice of following her. In the two years that followed, Erica sat and watched the sweet gentle man she used to know turn into a man-whore. Now she has to face Ren and he is angry. Will Ren have the closure he desperately needs? Will Erica finally come clean and face the only man she ever loved?
Man, this book is all angst and tension. My stomach was knotted the whole time. Ren’s anger radiates off him in waves. He was conflicted - hurt but also still loves Erica with all his heart. He made sure to make Erica’s life miserable in Denver. Erica knew she made a huge mistake leaving Ren three years ago. The moment she came to that realization she wanted to run to Ren and ask for forgiveness but it was too late. It did not take long for Ren to have two women in his arms. Erica was hurt that Ren could move on so fast but she had no one to blame. These two have so much to work on – years of hurt feelings and misunderstanding. I really love Ren – he’s not the man-whore he appears to be. A good guy at heart – super sexy, caring, and swoony. Erica made mistakes and more than paid for it. She is funny, sweet and beautiful. I love all the wicked banters, the passion, the undeniable sizzling chemistry… not to mention the sexcapade – Lord, Kate knows how to write these amazing steamy sex scenes. This is a novella and I think it is a perfect combination of heart, humor, baseball and romance. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Sweeping the Series (Balls in Play #3) By: Kate Stewart 4 HomeRun Stars
What a great novella giving us Ren and Erica’s story! A second chance romance that is packed with angst, love, sorrow and steam!
When Ren the catcher for Denver’s baseball team is getting more publicity for his off the field plays, his team mates, his league, his boss, everyone is hoping by bringing in the new PR firm will help change the way Ren is spinning out of control.
Erica is living in NY working for a PR firm trying to survive. When she is told she is moving to Scottsdale, AZ to handle the womanizer baseball player…She panics…She’s not seen him for years…She walked out…She left him… She has watched him bless the cover of every tabloid since that day.
It’s not a pretty reunion.
What it is though, is two people who still care about each other a lot. Even though they are doing nothing but hurting each other. When the light finally turns on….LOOK OUT!
It was so good to get back with the Balls in Play guys!
I enjoy sports romance and this series is so fun! This is a quick , novella-length story about Ren Makavoy, the catcher on Rafe's team. Of course that means we got a little more Rafe and Alice (and Andy and April, too!) which was nice.
This is a really fun sports romance series that will keep you entertained with humor and fun banter while still bringing the romance and steam.
4 Stars This was one of my favorite stories from the Team Player Anthology. I loved Ren and Erica they were super hot together, Ren was absolutely swoon worthy. Plus we get a lot from the previous two couples from Balls in Play. If you've read this series, don't miss out on this novella!
Ren Makavoy. He's a superstar on filed and a superdouche off it. When gloves come off, his hands are very busy, squeezing butts and giving orgasms to any woman crossing his path. He quickly is becoming the Bad Boy of Baseball and his team , his friends are worried.
"you are a world class dickhead and well on your way to becoming a cliché.”
For Damage Control , a new PR person is hired-Erica Wild. His ex, his heart, his life. They were deeply in love once, almost on the verge of marriage, when she left
“You want a reason for why I left you? Here’s a good one. This fucking sport. It destroys things; it destroys relationships and people.”
Now they're back in a professional relationship, an edits a tightest everyday. Bitterness, cynicism, some tears, some sorrows, they all seep in and the story goes ftom good to spectacular. Kate has written Ball Game Orphans story very astutely. The family suffers while the world applauds. Disappointments, missed occasion, dashed memories are all traded in lieu of series cups, championships and Halls Of Fame Awards. Fantastic story, got a bit repetitive in the middle, but was hearttouching all the same 4 Tin Man stars #BookBistroBlogApproved Follow us on FB - https://www.facebook.com/groups/BookB... This was an intense and emotional story!I adored Erica and Ren, they have an amazing chemistry!Sweeping the series has angst, humor and the romance is perfect! If you are looking for a melting, quick read this is perfect for you! It's a second chance romance with a lovely story line and the writing is amazing!
Shame, Ren's story could have been a dream. Instead, he self sabotaged his life and his career and it turned him into someone I can't imagine you'd want to ever come back to. Especially without a fucking condom!
They kept telling Ren to wipe his nose but to me, it was Erica who needed to grow up. She behaved like a teenager and had no spine whatsoever. She was very unprofessional and such an ick character.
What did that fucking dinner date have to do with anything?
I think that even my favs from the first two books didn't seem to have the same voice.
This novella was absolute PERFECTION!!!!♥️♥️ Ren Macavoy...what a d$ck but a glorious one!!! I swear my heart broke in two for him. His back story was so pitiful😢Erica, she had a hell of a crap male role model for sure and it’s no wonder she felt the way she did about baseball and the man. This was such a fabulous little ending to such a great series. I have enjoyed this so much and I just enjoy Kate’s work more and more with every book and now I think I’m just about caught up with all her books!!!!! Angst⭐️⭐️ Cheating none Sexy Time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Epilogue ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Plot⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cocky baseball star meets jaded fan. Explosive chemistry leads to love, leads to a broken heart. Will a second chance fix things or make them worse? There's plenty of feelings in this one, along with serious heat, some LOL moments and awesome supporting characters. I am definitely going to check out the other Kate Stewart baseball books for more on those characters.
