Daith's father is dead. His death caused a rip in the galaxy's peace. The remains of his army are fighting to restore it.
But Daith knows nothing of this. Her memories have been stolen. She has been kidnapped. All she knows is that she has unparalleled abilities that could help end the devastation. Except without her past, how can she know if she's on the right side?
Time is running out and Daith must choose: to search for who she was or use her gifts to restore order.
Illusion is an amazing book. The world is intricate and beautiful. I love how the storyline falls into the realm of fantasy but seems completely believable. I guess that's science fiction for you...So glad I got to read this book before everyone else!
Great read! Intriguing characters and great storyline!
I couldn't put this book down! The storyline moves smoothly and effortlessly, while conveying a ton of information and getting you involved with the characters all at the same time! You can't help but root for Daith, and wonder where the twisting path before her will be taken by those who are in control. Illusion is a great space opera book with some amazing powers mixed in! Highly recommended, but fair warning, you'll want to read the next one!
Wow! This one has a bit of everything - mystery, murder, war, love, sibling rivalry, unique abilities and all set in space!
The main character, Daith can't remember anything about her life. What she doesn't know is there is a good reason for that - she has special abilities and everyone wants to exploit them. It's hard to differentiate between who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. There's a grey area that only begins to darken by the end of the book. I need book 2 to find out!
Brilliant story with twists and turns to it that as a reader I just wasn't expecting. Daith is a force to be reckoned with and I can't wait to read the next one to find out how her life changes and evolves. I hope she finds out the truth before its to late and gets those memories back like she so desires.
Deftly written and extremely gripping book, shows Author Christa Yelich-Koth's descriptive imagination. It is like a movie from another dimension of a parallel string reality, the characters in which pretty much have to deal with a lot of the moral issues plaguing our world as well. Great read!
Christa Yelich-Koth's Illusion is a Sci-Fi novel that keeps things 'down to earth'. Instead of focusing on the broader setting she focuses on a few key characters and their interaction with the world and within themselves. Giving us a sneak peek at the broader world of the Eomix Galaxy keeps the reader interested in it's mysteries. The alien races, technology, and political interactions are engaging but take a place on the back burner of this tale. Appropriately so.
Building on unique and interesting characters Christa does not leave the readers with one-note or cliche tropes. The people in this story are dynamic and realistic, they experience pain and pleasure, they desire love and acceptance, they have deep scars which trouble and influence their decisions. Her main characters Daith, a woman trying to solve her own mysteries, Dru, the man helping to guide her through it, and Trey, a man that's extremely driven, will keep the pages turning.
There are some fantastic elements in the novel driven by gifts, or powers, but Yelich-Koth does a great job of managing the scenes and the reality of them. I have found in many Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels that powers, magic, etc...can be difficult to understand, read, or are too complex. She does a fine job of relaying to the reader what is happening as well as the consequences of such things.
With a prolific world, deep characters, and a mysterious background Christa Yelich-Koth introduces an exciting new series into the world of literature. If you're a fan of Sci-Fi or Fantasy I highly recommend it. If you're not, I still recommend it, it's amazing what a good author can do to sway your interests.
For me, Illusion provides the key to any outstanding fiction, regardless of genre... a great story teller. Christa Yelich-Koth is a great story teller. The essential plot, the well drawn characters, and the conflicting motives of all the characters make it an exciting read. It is a book you want to keep reading because you never know what will happen next.
In Illusion, Christa creates a central character whose search for identity you follow not just because its a mystery. You care about her. You are drawn in to her search. Christa provides a supporting cast of well defined characters that have their own motivations that unfold as the book moves forward.
I highly recommend this book. You don't need to be a science-fiction fan to really enjoy it. It is a great story!
I have been in love with books for 30 years reading everything from novels to how-to books. The only genre that I was not drawn to was science fiction/fantasy. What a wonderful surprise then when I read “Illusion” by Christa Yelich Koth. Yelich-Koth brings such psychological mystery and character depth in “Illusion” that it left me eagerly anticipating the sequel. Colorful aliens, deception, and intrigue kept me turning pages.
Science Fiction isn't a go to genre of mine, but I am glad to have received an advanced copy of Illusion! The author's writing sucked me in from page one and kept me reading straight through. I felt as if I was in the book experiencing all of it with Daith. The only downside with this book is, I finished it and I am impatient to find out how the journey continues!!"
A wonderful space opera, with stellar world-building. Daith is an intriguing heroine, with immense power but no memories and appealing vulnerability. The villains are nuanced and even sympathetic, and there are lots of loose threads to wrap up in the next one. Can't wait to read it, I'll be following this series to the end!
I had the pleasure of reading this unbelievably cool sci-fi fantasy before it hit the shelves. Yelich-Koth does an great job of painting magical worlds that drew me in and kept me up at night reading.
Talk about a cliff hanger man, this might be the first giveaway book I am dying to read part 2 of. Lots of unexpected twists, no happy ending. My favourite kind of book. The characters are well done too, and whatever unknown parts I know are going to be super elaborated on. Great read thank you.
I’m truly amazed at the beginning of this trilogy. The author Christa Yelich-Koth have started strong right from the beginning, a style which I’ve never came by which is why it makes it hard for me to find the words for this review but I’ll try. Suicide, kidnapping, brainwashing, murders, power and conspiracies all meshed up that as awesome as this book is i still have no idea what is going on or what’s truth or lies and it’s all done in so good that there is absolutely no way for me no to jump into the second book right away hoping that it will be just as good and that some answers will start to revile themselves.
Maria Marquis have done a perfect job narrating that I’m glad that she continues to narrate the rest of the series!
As of now I absolutely, And without a doubt, fully recommend this book !
When Jacin Jaxx passes away, he leaves a void in his universe. Some want to fill that emptiness with a return to the norm that existed before Jacin discovered his powers. Others want to find someone with similar powers to replace him. His daughter Daith becomes the object of one of these plans. Without her memory, she comes to rely on Trey and Dru Xiven to help her learn about herself and her powers. But can they be trusted?
I had trouble getting into this story because some of the characters were truly unlikable and the depth of the Jaxx’s power strained believability even for science fiction. A couple characters revealed depths to their personality that made me curious where the story might take them.
I really didn't like the way Trey just disposed of any one who opposed him, especially his brother. I don't think it's worth spending money on any of this author's books. I just hope Daith learns the truth and doesn't become Trey's pawn and help destroy thousands of innocent lives.
This book is really good... But i have no money to by the second part, i my self a science fiction writter (i just drop my first book... So no money for now 😂) i realy hop you can send me the second part in my email: harkatabdelhakim92@gmail.com Thank you... And i really recommande this book for all ♥️
"Illusion" by Christa Yelich-Koth is a fun, fast-paced thrilling read. The tight focus on three main characters in this wide open galaxy is a perfect choice for the reader to enter the cosmos of Yelich-Koth.
I was intrigued by the empathic and telepathic abilities of Daith. Her amnesia and the resulting problems of rediscovering who she was drove the narrative. I found her compelling and intriguing.
The ancillary characters, like Dr. Ludd, helped give life to this galaxy I intend on exploring further.
It's a good book for everyone.. It has a lot of action and excitement. Her abilities are great and she gets better at using them every time she uses them.
not normally a sci-fi fan, but read this book on the recommendation of a friend. so glad i did! it's more than just a psychological thriller, it twists and turns, kept me surprised all the way. excellent story and characters. i'd love to see this made into a movie.
A quite liked this book. There was a real ebb and flow to the story that both frustrates and fascinates me. I was not keen on how it ended, although it leaves a lot for the next book to develop the characters more. *received a free copy from Voracious Readers Only*
Daith has lost her memory. Trey doesn't care about her memory - he just wants to activate her mental/mind powers so that she can help him take over the worlds.
Readers challenged to keep mixed plot messages separate. Plot twists around why such a powerful weapon becomes useless. Author keeps spicing plot with twists to make a page turner ending.
Poorly thought out with characters that are either wonderful but naive or total psychopaths. Don't bother reading this, it's not worth the!the time you'll spend.
Love it. Finished it and immediately bought the next in the series. ** note - ends on a cliff hanger. (Usually I hate this and don’t continue in a series but this was sooooo good!)
Imagine waking up in an unfamiliar room, not knowing where you were or even not knowing your own name. This is the predicament our heroine finds herself in to start the book, Illusion, by Christa Yelich-Koth. Daith Tocc, a young woman and daughter to Jacin Jaxx, has been kidnapped, her mind erased, by Commander Trey Xiven, once second in command to her father.
Trey, trying to maintain the army her father established in order to impose peace in the galaxy, is on a mission to bring order to the chaos that erupted after Jacin’s death. Hoping his offspring may possess their father’s mental gifts, Trey searched until he located Daith, wiping her memory, and testing her in the hopes that he could use her for his own ends.
The commander brings in his estranged brother, Dru, to test and guide her, to hone her skills. Though he’s uncomfortable with lying to Daith about her true identity, he’s drawn to her, the first woman that has interested him since his wife’s death. He’s torn between familial bonds, and his growing attachment to his patient, struggling to maintain some semblance of clinical detachment.
But with Daith’s power growing beyond what they had imagined, keeping her identity a secret from her becomes more difficult. Trey resorts to desperate measures to ensure she stays under his control, and no one’s life is safe while he attempts to bring peace back to the galaxy. He believes everyone is expendable, a small price to pay in order to free worlds from war, but will he be able to sway Daith? Will she stay and give up her hope of discovering who she really is?
When I started reading this book, it wasn’t with any sense of expectation. It was only because I agreed to read and review it for the author. It quickly became apparent that the book was well thought out, well-written, and was actually gripping. I became immersed in her story, needing to know what came next, needing to see what exactly Trey’s plan would be, and if Daith would regain her memory.
Illusion is a book whose antagonist believes himself to be the hero, while he plots and schemes, having no trouble killing those who stand in his way, including his own crew should they disappoint him in any way. He’s a tyrant rather than a leader. Daith, however, is a mystery to herself, discovering the truth of her powers as she is guided by the lies of a man who doesn’t care about her, except by how she could be of use to his plans.
As as sit here writing this, is occurs to me that Illusion is one of the better books I’ve reviewed. I read until I could no longer stay awake, and finished it as soon as I could. My only complaint is that I have to wait until the next book to come out to know what happens next. I came to loathe Trey while I rooted for Daith – and to a lesser extent, Dru – to be able to free herself from his grasp.
Christa succeeded in creating an interesting story, one that I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to read. It’s definitely one of my new favorites!
“The most interesting and wonderful piece of this book is the flow. As mentioned, the story starts off pretty quickly, but once Daith enters the ship’s environment, there is a halt and then another slow build-up. The last half of the book felt like whirlwind, but in a wonderful refreshing and exhilarating way. As the pieces of the plot unfold, you are tossed around at guessing who is the true evil...” —Kelly Starsmore, Twin Cities Geek Magazine.
This book kept drawing me back to it. It had a few slow parts, but the story kept me going. I was saddened at times, because I felt a connection with some of the characters, and I wanted what happened to them to change. Of course, it probably couldn't for the story to work. I suppose that's another sign of a good book. I look forward to reading the sequel.
