Sectors New Allies #2.5

Timtur: The Teacher's Alien Healer

Rate this book
Genetically engineered soldiers of the far future, the Badari were created by alien enemies to fight humans. But then the scientists kidnapped an entire human colony to use as subjects in twisted experiments…the Badari and the humans made common cause, rebelled and escaped the labs. Now they live side by side in a sanctuary valley protected by a powerful Artificial Intelligence, and wage unceasing war on the aliens. The luckiest Badari find their mates among the humans.

Far from her home in the human Sectors after the mass kidnapping, teacher Lily Garrison is making a niche for herself in the valley by running a school for the Badari young. Although she yearns for Timtur, the pack’s healer, another Badari male has his eye on her and won’t take no for an answer.

Timtur feels the weight and responsibility of being the pack’s only healer, constantly on call as the soldiers fight ferocious battles against the alien scientists and their troops. With scarcely a moment to himself, he’s drawn to the gentle Lily but worries he won’t be able to juggle his duties, his loyalty to the pack and a relationship with a human woman.

When Lily’s stalker takes direct action to kidnap her and steal her from the safety of the valley, she’s forced to reach deep inside to find the strength to battle for her life. Timtur realizes too late how foolish he’s been to resist the bond with his fated mate and leads the rescue effort.

Before this situation can be resolved both will have to put their lives on the line and decide what really matters in a dangerous world ruled by the enemy.

Although this is the fifth book released in the Badari Warriors scifi romance series, the story of Timtur and Lily is a standalone and actually comes immediately after Book Two’s events. Always a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels!

The 2.5 entry in the Badari Warriors series by Veronica Scott. Lily Garrison is the sister of Jill and Megan from the previous books. She really likes healer Timtur but Timtur resists the attraction, wanting to be friends. But when another Badari warrior claims Lily and kidnaps her, Timtur realizes Lily is his and will do anything to get her back.

I have really enjoyed this series. A guilty pleasure of sorts, I guess. The stories are all stand alones in a way but I recommend reading them in order to understand the backstory.

Timtur and Lily Garrison are both secondary recurring characters from book one. Their unresolved mutual attraction has been brewing and it was fabulous to see how it all finally resolved in a heart-stopping adventure of their own.

Timtur is technically book 2.5 in the series, but it is not shorter or less developed. It simply got written later and slipped back into its chronological place in the Sectors New Allies- Badari Warriors series. It definitely works best read after books one and two since Lily is the sister of those romance heroines and Timtur is a strong recurring Badari character.

Timtur is a feline Badari and is a special member of his pack as their healer and spiritual advisor who is most in touch with the ‘Great Mother’. As such, he feels a great burden that his packs needs should always come first. This leaves him in a quandary regarding his feelings for Lily Garrison. Duty or mate? He isn’t sure he can have both since they are both high priorities.

Lily Garrison, unlike her older sister is no strong soldier nor is she a dedicated and strong-willed healer like her older twin. She sees herself as weaker because she has phobias and is ‘merely’ a teacher of the young. And, look, she can’t even hook the handsome and dedicated Timtur to be her mate.

But, through a series of circumstances and a final harrowing experience involving Lily’s life and both their freedom, Timtur figures out quickly what he can and can’t live without and how it all can work out.

I love how there is a sweet connection between this pair who grew from friendship and shared circumstances in their escape from the Khargish alien scientists who experimented and tortured, but they became something more. I liked seeing Lily learn that she is as strong as her sisters and have a man like Timtur respect and lover her even when he wasn’t sure how to make it all work. And, seeing Timtur figure out his life now that he and his pack are free was heartwarming. All this set against some intense action scenes and a well-built climax made for a solid story in the series and my favorite so far.

Sci-fi Romance fans really should have this and the original series on their reading stack.

Meh.

I liked Timtur and was excited for his novel, and it seemed like the author was going a different way with his novel, which was exciting. However, it became pretty clear pretty quickly that this book was going to follow the same plot as the previous ones, and sometimes that's okay! Sometimes I want a whole series of couples in forced proximity because their characters are all so different that they react to the proximity in a completely different way than the couple in the previous book.

That didn't happen here. It felt like I was rereading the first two, but with different names and slightly different circumstances.

FWIW, I read this when I was super sleepy, so I might not be remembering everything perfectly. This is just my general impression from what I remember reading. I might revisit this book at some point and see if I'm being unfair, but I have so many other books to read right now that I don't plan on doing it soon.

**MINOR SPOILERS**
This series is fairly large and has connections, I think, to other series. The books are set in the same universe with different planets and different species. I think this book should be read after the first two books in this series.
The Badari are a group of enhanced soldiers that have had animal DNA spliced into them. Various experiments have been performed on them over the course of several generations. Timtur and his pack have fangs and claws. They also can communicate telepathically with each other. There are no female Badari. The doctors, aliens called Khagrish, have done the experiments are generally sadistic in a way that is reminiscent of Nazi Germany.
Lily, the female main character, is the sister of the female main characters of the first two books. Like her sisters, she was abducted and brought to a new planet to undergo experimentation. Lily leads a school for both humans and Badari in their secret camp. The camp was made after their rescue, but they are still on the planet where they were taken.
Timtur is a healer for the Badari and is considered to have a special gift from the goddess they believe in. He is attracted to Lily but worries that it will lead to him compromise his role as healer in some way. I liked the conversation he had about the mate bond with Aydarr, the alpha of the Badari.
Lily has been attracted to Timtur and wants to pursue their relationship. When she begins to broach this topic with Timtur, he is hesitant. She decides not to pursue it further though she is sad and hurt and wishes it were different.
Vattan, a younger Badari, was thought to be a potential alpha. He decides that he will mate with Lily as he has seen the mate bond that her two sisters have with the alpha and the enforcer of the pack respectively. Because of that he believes it is appropriate for him to have a mate bond with her. He kidnaps her.
Spoiler…Vattan and a few other Badari have a secret agreement with a doctor who did experiments on them. They have special enhancements that others do not have, but you do not know what they are until later.
When Lily is kidnapped, Timtur stops hesitating about his relationship with her. He immediately goes on the trail with two others to try to recover her.
Lily comes across as the softest of the 3 sisters and lives a life’s philosophy of being non confrontational. She and Megan are twins and Megan has a very feisty personality. After her kidnapping, Lily has a bit of a personality transplant as she becomes braver and more confrontational.
The Badari are an alien species that have been experimented on in the hopes they will become super soldiers. Each 5 years, a new group of cadets is created and Timtur, the male main character of this book, is part of the 8th generation. Following that logic (and the way older generations are killed), Timtur would have been about 20, but the way his character and that of his pack was written, he seemed to be a bit older. The author explains this partially by saying that they mature quicker and are the equivalent of being in their midthirties.
The story was split between Timtur and Lily’s point of view with perhaps a little more from Lily’s.
The story happens over a short period of time though Lily and Timtur knew each other before the story began and developed a friendship.
I plan to go on to read the next book in the series.

Timtur (Badari healer) & Lily Garrison (teacher, Jill’s younger sister)

The most timid of the Garrison sisters finds herself attracted to the Badari healer. While Lily does her best to put herself out there, something has Timtur holding back. As the only healer among both the feline and canine breed packs, he holds his responsibility to his people as sacred. In addition to being the healer, he has the closest connection to the ancestral goddess they worship. His gift, divinely given.

Lily being unclaimed puts ideas in one of the young one’s heads. The natural born alpha of the next generation of feline Badari is convinced that mates are not goddess blessed, but given to the strongest, making Lily his. He fights a dominance battle with his canine counterpart, and when that ends in the other Bardari’s favor, he along with his 3 enforcers, kidnaps Lily, returning all of them to the Khagrish‘s not-so-tender mercies.

How did I miss the fact that Aydaar, Mateer, Timtur, and the rest of their pack are feline based? Guess the term pack puts me in a canine mindset, and there wasn’t clear evidence to the contrary.

In the previous books, I got the impression that Timtur (the healer) was not as physically strong and capable as the other Badari warriors, that the other warriors protected him because he couldn't protect himself, or anyone else. Was that ever a wrong impression! Lily, a human, wants more than a casual friendship with Timtur. He doesn't seem to read her signals right. But when she is kidnapped by rebel Badari, he realizes how important she is to him. The others (esp. her sisters) think she is weak. She is stronger than they expect. She's able to keep herself alive and safe from the wicked Khagrish. I like these characters and the way their stories are woven into the story.

Lily and Timtur have been friends since Lily was rescued. Everyone knows they are mates but the two are dancing around any commitment. A great set up for the next book in the Badari Warriors series. This situation puts Lily in danger and brings out some secrets among the Badari. Lily must be recused and a secret must be taken care of. A lot of tension and some soul searching on both Lily and Timtur's part. As everything is brought into the open and the danger taken care of there is a very nice HEA for the two.

Teaching to heal

This is my first introduction to this author, and what an amazing introduction it was. There are so many layers to each of these characters and how they perceive their place in the pack. Some how, between in fighting, kidnapping, escaping and burying their dead, they manage to see that they are stronger together. I truly enjoyed this fast paced, intense read. I can’t wait to go back and read the previous two stories, and I’ll be looking forward to the next book by this author.

I jumped right into this with no context just because this is the only one that's part of the In the Stars Romance series, but even so, this has a wild and adventurous premise, the FMC and the other female characters are taken seriously and have their own agency, and I would definitely read more of these. They're not on Kindle Unlimited though so they're going to on the back burner a bit. Momma ain't made of money.

the healer and Lily

Yay for Lily, a shy teacher who is interested in Badari healer Timlur. Miscommunications separates them. But, there is someone stalking Lily. A bit repetitive in the same talk between Lily and Timlur.

ACKNOWLEDGING LOVE

Timtur realizes duty is not always what comes first, unless it is the duty to his mate.
Lots of action, intrigue, and sizzling romance.

Awesome again!

Timtur and Lily are a wonderful couple. Learning a new relationship even an alien/human pairing is difficult and comes with angst. Exciting, fast moving, emotional all rolled together. Excited or the rest of this series.
