YouMap: Find Yourself. Blaze Your Path. Show the World! By Kristin A. Shelly is a book that I would have never come across if it weren’t for my dad who bought it for me to read. In this book, I have been provided with a vast amount of guidance, which is great! I usually feel like I’m wandering about aimlessly especially on the topic of my life as a whole and what I want to do with it. In reading this book, I have learned a variety of things and have learned about what I do need to adjust in order to get the best results that I can. I have also gained a lot of insight on myself which was very surprising particularly since I am often so unsure of myself and of my abilities. Needless to say, I will implement many of the methods that the author recommended. There wasn’t necessarily a singular thing that I learned in reading this book, but a variety of things that I can use either now or later on in my life and in my professional career. This book allowed me to focus more on my strengths, which was unusual for me, and see what I am truly capable of. Kristin A. Shelly’s book, YouMap: Find Yourself. Blaze Your Path. Show the World!, was able to provide me with the guidance that I needed in order to understand myself and what I want to do with my life further as I am an incredibly unsure person. Her book is very well-written and I really enjoyed the experience of reading it. Particularly because it allowed me to gain further insight into what I want to do in the world. It also gave insight into other business procedures like going to interviews, writing resumes, cover letters, networking, and so much more that I could apply later on in my life. This book was able to give me a head-start in allowing me to better know what my options truly are for myself and where to start in general. I’m thankful for that. I gave this book five stars.
Kristin Sherry has written an incredibly useful book and guide on how to find one’s strengths and powers and align them with her career so as to lead a more meaningful and aligned professional life. The book is packed with useful and relevant information to help the reader understand her preferred style of work. Not only does it equip you with the concepts and tools necessary to blaze your path but it also helps you with crafting your resume and prepare for interviews so as to materialise your career aspirations and goals. Kudos to Kristin for publishing this valuable resource!
So many of us decide to change the direction of our careers at some point or just want a more rewarding position in their current field. The author of this book wrote a manual to assist anyone that is looking for change. The advice on networking was interesting to me, as I never think to market myself to those that I interact with. This is a great resource for anyone looking for a new job!
This book should be a mandatory read for every high schooler, college student, or person looking for a career change. Kristin Sherry maps out your strengths and matches you with your dream career where you can really shine. A total game changer for employment. Five stars!
The online resources do not 1:1 correspond with the book. E.g skills list. Overall a great resource for self assessment. Used for self assessment to gain further insight into a career change (post graduate studies) Thank you for this resource!
A great manual to help you make a career change, connecting your values, interests and personality type. I have recommended it to my sister who is about to embark on a career change too!
This is an excellent, easy to understand career book but more importantly, it's comprehensive! Rather than buy separate books to determine your Holland types, interpret StrengthsFinders, identify your motivated skills, and articulate your personal values, you can do everything in one book and see how they all weave together to create your unique contribution. It's an excellent resource for entry-level and mid-career changes, as well as for those who are considering a more entrepreneurial route. Understanding what can bring you career satisfaction can save you years of boredom and frustration that stems from being in the wrong role! I only wish I'd read it at the beginning of my career.
Main is the four pillars of career satisfaction, discover your - strengths, values, motivated skills and how you're wired. Different topics looked at that fall under these pillars.
I was definitely not the correct target audience for this book. I spent the first half of it being very mad that most of the text was commercials for various third-party goods and services required to complete the training exercises the book advocates. Then, I found that the second half of the book, which is largely insights on how to utilize what you learned in the first half of the book, (if you can complete the exercises,) was extremely dry reading. There is some useful information in this book, but I found it difficult to extract from the never-ending commercials and the human resources technical jargon.
I wouldn’t say that this book is comprehensive. What book is? But, it has some good tips for finding a career, assessing your strengths, and finding work.
This is a fantastic resource for career development, understanding yourself and your talents, and learning how to use your preferred skills in work and life. I recommend everyone read it.
This book left impression on my memory for its sense of authenticity. I can feel that sense in this work throughout the narrative of Kristin Sherry. I can't agree more that confidence in oneself is the key to one's achievement and success in a complex and competitive world. This work was quite encouraging by the way, since I can learn to trust myself more while navigating on my path as well as surpassing my barriers. This was such an interesting book.
