Starting Over is indeed a sweet romance. I enjoyed the plot, characters and the author’s writing. I highly recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my digital arc. This is my unbiased review.
For a short story, this had all the elements needed to make me connect with the characters. Not to mention make me cry. This is about a young couple that grew up in a small college community in North Carolina. They were into two totally different things in life but still spoke the same language of the heart. Nathan was into all things swimming. But plans on going to Duke for business and finance. Where Cara, was totally into botany, the stars, and the theory of relativity. She had planned to be a doctor. But there were things beyond her control that changed the course of her life forever. Would she have the main reason any other way, not at all? But the death of a family of course. But Cara is a strong, hardworking, loving aunt, who would do anything for her niece, Brooke. She is smart as a whip. Wants to be a doctor when she grows up. For now, however, she’ll settle for being one of the fastest swimmers on the team. When Cara applied a year ago for a landscaping job at the mansion that used to be hers and Nathan’s secret place. Because it was so run down. They made it their dream home for the future. Anyway, now it came down to her and two other bids. So, today she had to explain why her plan was the best. Upon arriving and the new interior and colors that would help with the floral colors to use are helpful. She never sees the man standing in the corner of the room as they enter. She is shocked speechless. When she is introduced to him and his girlfriend she is further caught off guard. Especially, when he is angered by her presence. Since he is the one that left her all those years ago because she chose to stay in this nowheresville town he was never coming back. Now here he is standing looking angry at her after all she had to change to make everything work? And not six months after he leaves her mom dies from MS and no call nothing. Really? This is one emotionally charged little book. The ending and how quickly they got back together was odd but for a short love story, it was perfect. I do wish there was an epilogue though. I give this: 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.
Second chance at love. Cara never thought she will see her ex-boyfriend Nathan in Henderson again. She wasn't ready face him yet but she had to if she wants to keep her job landscaping his new house. She had her niece to take care of and she needs more as she grows older. When Nathan saw Cara, lots of feelings were coming back and he couldn't believe she is still staying and her life is revolving around her niece. Cara didn't want to face Nathan more than she absolutely have to so she decided to work harder and she find a comfort of knowing he was in a relationship. When Cara's niece needed more than she can currently offer so she decides to sell her car to support her niece aspiration to become an olympic swimmer. Now, they are seeing each other more than ever when Cara finds out Nathan is her nieces new coach and she doesn't want to open to him. But she is hiding a big secret from him and that is the reason she couldn't leave with him to college. It was sweet story of second chance. All the characters were sweet.
Thanks to netgalley and J & M Publishing for my ARC in exchange for honest review.
A hidden pregnancy, the death of her sister and brotherinlaw who pretended to be the parents. It has been eleven years and he is back. Will he figure out the secret? Cara has been awarded the contract designing the gardens of his recently purchased home. Can she work for Nathan and his fiancé, and keep her secret?
5 Stelle meritatissime!
Seen this book a little bit ago and I was saving it for Fall. Lucky me it was free on Amazon! I was fully willing to buy it....but I won't complain for it being free right now ;)
Here we follow Cara Wallace and Nathan Reynolds. They had been High School sweethearts, but she needed to stay and he never wanted to come back to Henderson County. Years later Nathan and his fiancée have come to town to meet their contractor for a garden which happens to be Cara.....
This for sure should be a Hallmark movie!! This has everything. 2nd chances, small town, Cara lost her sister, she is taking care of her niece as a single parent, and Nathan rolls into town all high and mighty with his excellent job and hawt fiancée. Literally, need this to be a movie right now!
Ope! Forgot to mention a couple of crazy twists! Won't spoil it...but yeah.
I enjoyed this immensely, except for Nathan. Grrr! *shakes fist and curses his name* He was a total selfish asshat from page 1. He literally wants away so bad he doesn't care why Cara HAD to stay. She didn't WANT to. But someone had to stay and take care of her ailing mother.
And then he was a jerk to her when he came into town because Cara never called him to check on him. WHAT??? You LITERALLY walked away and said "We're done!!!!!". >_>
It took a minute, but she just forgave him all willy nilly. Like no...he needed to earn her back. Sighs.
Other than that, I really liked this! Loved Cara and her niece. Loved the small town. I do want to see more of the town and other townsfolk.
In the end, this is a good Fall read. Nice way to start the season! I hated Nathan and I think he needed to beg more. But yes, this would be the perfect Hallmark film.
Title: Starting Over Author: Pamela Q. Fernandes Publisher: J & M Publishing Narrated By Madeline Starr Series: Starting In Henderson County Book 1 Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Five Review: "Starting Over" by Pamela Q. Fernandes
My Assessment:
'Starting Over' was a sweet love story featuring Cara Wallace and Nathan Reynolds, who had been school sweethearts until it was time to leave for college. After some ten years, Nathan returns with a girlfriend and finds Cara had gone to college and was keeping her niece. As time passes, Cara ends up working for Nathan, and little by little, Nathan learns why Cara didn't let him know why she hadn't gone to college back then. Finally, will these two be able to get back together after Nathan has discovered a secret? At this point, the reader must pick up 'Starting Over' and see how well this author brings out how and why Cara did the things she had to do for her family.
This was my first experience with Pamela Fernandes' work and I enjoyed it very much. The story is about a couple graduating from high school who break up and go their separate ways. The boy leaves town to go to college and the girl remains at home to help her ailing mother. He returns ten years later and circumstances bring them back together. Pamela develops characters who are heart-warming and relatable, which is what I like the most about her stories. Madeline Starr's narration is great and her voice is pleasing. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
