The Gifted Highly Sensitive Introvert: Wisdom for Emotional Healing and Expressing Your Radiant Authentic Self

Rate this book
Are you a smart high achiever who struggles with anxiety or depression? Do people say you’re too sensitive? Do noisy crowds, conflicts and brash people irritate you? Discover profound insights from this #1 bestselling author that will help you heal and flourish.

Does your heart ache when loved ones won’t emotionally connect with you? Do you struggle with self-acceptance when you’re less than perfect? Do you need to recuperate in the privacy of your inner sanctuary? Is personal spiritual development important to you?

If you have a highly sensitive personality, and you struggle with similar issues, this book is for you.

Benita A. Esposito is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a highly sensitive introvert. Her quest for healthy relationships resulted in disappointment time and time again. Anguish motivated her to find the most effective emotional healing techniques so she could heal the emptiness inside. Attachment theory suggested that she needed to delve into healing childhood wounds.

Esposito discovered that being an intuitive empath with a desire to help others is a beautiful trait. But without higher wisdom, it can draw you into hurtful relationships like a moth to a candle flame.

Finally, Esposito squelched the search to find love outside of her self. She summoned the courage to ferret out her deepest fears, cultivate self-compassion and develop deeper intimacy with God.

The result? A very long Dark Night of the Soul. Some would have diagnosed her with depression, but it wasn't that. God was stripping away narrow-minded notions of love and wooing her into the most exquisite sacred love affair. As she spiritually matured, she emerged wet-winged from the cocoon, ready to fly. The empty feelings inside vanished.

Now after four decades of hard-won wisdom, Esposito shares her memoir and teaching stories to help you stop suffering.

The Gifted Highly Sensitive Wisdom for Emotional Healing and Expressing Your Radiant Authentic Self will help you feel loved and empowered regardless of your external circumstances.

This book will appeal to Christians and all others who share a grace-filled theology. Be sure to read the foreword by Father Nigel Mumford. He’s one of the most delightful Episcopalian priests you’ll ever meet.

Esposito nailed it—she gets me!

“Your high sensitivity is not a flaw.” My family has misunderstood me my entire life. They’ve always said I’m too sensitive and too emotional. I thought they were right—until I read this book.

Reading about my own qualities made me realize I’m not alone, there are others like me. And, being highly sensitive is a good thing! Her words spoke directly to me. I was nodding and talking back to the book as I read! Empowering and affirming too. Thank you, I needed to read this. If you’re highly sensitive, introverted, gifted—or all three (like me) this is a must read!

A deeply personal and relatable read, the author inspired me to better understand (and embrace, even!) my "highly sensitive" and "introverted" tendencies, and, having acknowledged that these tendencies will likely never change, I feel encouraged to, instead, address aspects of my life that I can change to better accommodate the person I am.

Thank you to Ms. Esposito for sharing her personal journey in overcoming emotional challenges in her life, in this book. She has shown Highly Sensitive Persons (although book was targeted towards Highly Sensitive Introverts) how to interpret life events with heightened self-awareness and greater insight into their unique worldview due to their inbuilt emotional sensitivity.

In a world which is beginning to tire of materialistic values and begin to recognise self-actualisation of an individual as a valuable life goal, we need more writers like Ms. Esposito to guide the way for individuals who may be feeling currently overwhelmed or adrift in their life direction, to recognise that they have a "voice" in how they shape their lives, and thereby make changes in their community using their special skillset which includes compassion for others and helping others to also heal emotionally.

I am currently reading this book and as for now it is absolutely awesome. I’m thinking of starting a book study group with it. I’ve rated it 4 stars only because the book is so long. I believe it would benefit into broken down in a series of books or finding a way to cut it down altogether. But we wouldn’t want to miss any of it. Great Job Mrs. Esposito!!!

Not My Cup of Tea

Just not my cup of tea!
I found it very tedious reading and was not helpful for me. I usually read quickly, but not this one. Not saying it was bad. It just didn't appeal to me.

I liked it:) but def requires a Christian understanding of the world to make sense of it! Grateful she wrote it - I get it!! Seems like there’s more idealistic creatives like me that need to create their own land!:)

Open and Honest

Benita was very open and honest about her life experiences. Many of her observations and insights resonated with me as a fellow highly sensitive person.

Not worth the time. No concrete information, the repetition of the same things in different words all the time
