Edie's Automotive Guide #1

Headlights, Dipsticks, & My Ex's Brother: Now With More Awkward First Kisses!

Rate this book
A full-length standalone sex-positive romantic comedy!

Running an auto shop is hard; running an auto shop as a woman is harder; running an auto shop with your ex--who is about to become your STEP-FATHER--and his hot brother is just insane. (And then there's the rooster.)

Edie Becker is living her childhood dream of running her grandfather’s auto shop. She just didn’t count on having to share ownership of the company with two other people. Specifically, her ex-fiancé and his gorgeous older brother, Luke.

When Luke rolls into town for the first time in years, he has news that changes everything—he’s now the majority shareholder and he needs to sell the auto shop, and Edie’s house next door, as soon as he can.

To make matters worse, Edie’s ex-fiancé has just proposed...to her mother.

Edie’s determined to find a way to save her auto shop, to finally stand up to her heinous mother, and to not kiss Luke ever again...especially since he didn’t kiss her back.

If Edie’s plans don’t work, she’ll be unemployed, homeless, and worse: heartbroken.

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Headlights, Dipsticks, & My Ex's Brother is the first book in Edie's Automotive Guide series by Heather Novak. Headlights, Dipsticks, & My Ex's Brother, which I will be calling Headlights for the rest of this review, is a really fun read. There was one aspect of the story icked me out so much, but I just pretended it wasn't a thing for most of the book, and out of sight out of mind worked well for me. (more on this in a bit.) Once I ignored that aspect, I loved Headlights. I found the characters delightful and it was a story that was a very nice, quick feel good read. I do have to say, I don't love the cover. It is giving me major sweet valley high vibes. But the story more than made up for the slightly dated feeling cover.

First let's talk about the part of the story that icks me out. I loved Edie. But to have her ex boyfriend marry her mother was a gross that I just couldn't deal with. It made me seriously hate both her ex and her mother, and quite frankly, I just didn't want to think about or deal with either of them. Luckily, they are really only passing secondary characters in the story. They do rear their ugly heads a few times, but I just breezed through those parts and got back to the much more enjoyable Edie and Luke. And now that is out of the way, we can move on to more enjoyable aspects of this novel.

I loved Edie. She is fiesty and strong and very determined to go after what she wants. And what she wants is to keep the auto shop up and running. Edie and Luke are really easy to root for. From the start, you just know they care about one another. Luke is such a great guy. I don't want to give too much of the story away, but Heather Novak does a great job making her reader feel strong feelings for her characters. The characters that I loved, I loved hard, and the characters that I disliked, well I hated them just as hard. Which made this book a whole lot of fun. It wrapped up nicely, and I can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next book. This is a series I am really interested in continuing. Some parts of the novel came together just a little too easily, if you know what I mean, but it was great for a quick lighthearted read. If you are looking for a fun feel good read, with a whole lot of emotion, then Headlights, Dipsticks, & My Ex's Brother is a great book for you to pick up.

Wow! I love it so much that I wish a movie producer would get to read it and turn it into a movie!

I just love how true Edie is to herself. Her being a girl doesn't stop her love for anything automobile. Awkward doesn't cover how much is happening in Edie's life. From Ex to future step-dad to calling someone she has has been in love with Uncle in the future. Heather wrote it so beautifully that I can feel the things happening in Edie's life, like this is not fiction.

Headlights, Dipsticks & My Ex's brother is not all ROM-COM. I was actually quite surprised, it caught me off-guard when I found myself crying. This book is filled with so much wit, angst, feel good moments. The "family" Edie has are super great and I am looking forward to who is next in this series!

Yoohoo! any producers out there who is looking for a good rom-com movie? This book may have all the things you are looking for.

edited after my first re-read

I liked the audiobook version, although I think I prefer the story itself a bit more... nonetheless, it was as amazing as the first time I read it :) after all, this was my favourite book of last year :) I highly recommend you all to check out this wonderful, diverse and phenomenally written contemporary romance :) my full review to check out below :)

original review :)

I voluntarily reviewed an early copy of this book :) this is the first book in a new series by the lovely Heather Novak, but worry not, the sequel will be about a different couple, so no cliffhangers or anything here ;) just an awesome story :) I really liked Heather's previous books, but this one? *sighs happily* this one absolutely blew my mind :) I have so many good things to say about it, that I actually have problems putting all of that into like proper and full words and sentences... I tried sleeping on all of that, so maybe my enthusiasm would settle down a bit, but nothing like that happened ;) so instead we will embrace the chaos and just dive right into first, me telling you a bit more what this whole book is all about, and then I will tell you about the awesomeness that is this story, while sharing my thoughs and feelings about it :)

So first and foremost, we have Edie... *sighs happily* I have such a woman crush on her :) she's one of my favourite characters I read about in a very long time :) she is a part owner of an auto shop but basically runs everything... especially since the other part owners are: Will, her ex-fiance and Luke, Will's older brother :) talk about a complicated situation... and that's only the beginning... because now Luke is back in town and he needs to sell his part in the auto shop as soon as possible... but wait, that's not all... Will is engaged... to Edie's mom... yeah... it's a lot to take for just one person... the whole book takes place over a span of a few weeks, where we can see how Edie handles everything and tries to do everything she can to save the auto shop and just... survive all that... because Luke being back in town makes her realize that there might be something more between them... ok, I feel like these are all the details I can possibly give you right now, because anything else would spoil you certain things that I think are gonna be much better as a surprise :) so instead let me jump into all the praises I have about this gem... :)

I honestly have so many great things to say about this book that I have no idea where to start... :) so in no order whatsoever, let's begin with Edie :) when I say that I loved her, I mean that I absolutely adored her... she's my favourite kind of heroine to read about: smart and brave and just someone I would love to be friends with... yes, she makes mistakes, but we are all flawed... she works hard to be better and to do better, at the same time being true to herself... I appreciate and respect that about her... Heather wrote her so honestly and realistically that I kept forgetting she's a fictional character... but the same can be said about the whole cast of characters... they were all so beautifully diverse and complex... when it comes not only to their sexuality, colour of their skin, but just a lot of other qualities... even the fact that Edie has some serious food allergies that affect her life in many ways... Heather created all those people in such an amazing way that all those qualities were just a part of each individual, and added to a much bigger and complex picture... not just one defining thing about them... and I loved it :) we do live in a very complex and diverse world and I feel like Heather really grasped it with her cast... :) if we're being totally honest I wanted to crawl between the pages of this novel more than once, cause I wanted to be a part of that group of friends... :) yes, they are that awesome :) if that's not convincing enough, let's talk for a moment about Heather's writing style in general :) because it's absolute perfection :) like I mentioned already, her characters are complex and diverse... the main couple is totally swoonworthy and the way they handle this tough and complicated situation they are in is amazing :) the whole story is a perfect mix of lighter and more serious topics and vibes... on the one hand, we have the absolutely hilarious Edie's tips at the beginning of each chapter and the amazing banter between Edie and all sorts of characters... and let's not forget about Sergeant Cornflakes ;) I will let you discover him for yourselves ;) on the other hand we have all those more serious moments... when Luke shares some memories, scenes between Edie and her toxic mother... it's all woven together in a very real way... let's just say that this book made me tear up, laugh out loud and make all sorts of aaaawwww noises :) the story unfolds amazingly and I just couldn't get enough of it... I wanted there to be more chapters, cause I needed to read more about these people :) fortunately there is a nice little teaser about the next book in a series, and I am already excited to get my hands on it... :) I read many books this year... like 150+ so far, and this was definitely one of my faves :) and I'm not saying it was my favourite only because there is more than one month left in 2018 so I need to be fair ;) but it's definitely a very strong contender for the top spot, that's for sure :) if you have yet to read this absolutely beautiful book, definitely go do it right now... yes, it's one of those drop-everything-else-you're-doing-and-go-read-it books :) you can thank me later for pointing you in the direction of this gem :)

XOXO

This is a new to me author. I didn’t realize that she’s a local author in my neck of the woods so I will for sure check out her other books. I really liked this story. I read it in a couple of hours and I liked the whole girls fixing cars because girl power! Edie is a strong character and Luke is a good guy. I liked the tips at the beginning of each chapter, they were all really cute. There’s a big sense of family and community in the story. Everyone is trying to help out Edie. I deeply despised her mother, she made me stabby and I wanted to throat punch her ex. Those two yahoos can have each other, her mother is just toxic. I think this is going to be a great series!

It took me a little bit to get into this but once I did, I really enjoyed the whole middle of the book. I also liked the ending and the resolution to the big conflict, however I didn't really find it believable. Based on everything else that had happened, the resolution was a bit left field and unrealistic. That being said, looking solely at the resolution, it gave me warm fuzzies. There were several things I enjoyed in the story and a few I didn't, such as the writing being a bit more juvenile than I would like but overall, it was a pretty easy and fun read. My absolute favorite thing from this book is probably the rooster, Sergeant Cornflakes.
This is a new author to me. I would try another book by her in the future.

The passion Ms. Novak has for her characters and her writing always shines through. While a departure from her paranormal Lynch Bros. Series, this contemporary comedic romance is, as always with her books, perfection. Ms. Novak draws you in with the opening chapter and, trust me, you won’t want to put this book down. Edie and Luke’s evolution as a couple, and their bumpy ride, evokes all the feelings of fresh love. Edie’s relationships with those around her is beautiful, she is pure and a joy. Honestly, I would love to have an Edie in my life, someone in my corner to be there for me when I need her. Her willingness to possibly lose everything she holds dear in life to help the one person who is her everything, well, it’s awe inspiring, and at the same time, real.
I've realized that I don't know how to verbalize the change in Will in this book. No, really. It's a beautiful thing to start out not liking a character, then despising, then hating him, and in ONE scene, (as Edie says) grudgingly respect him. It's immensely beautiful.
I love that Ms. Novak included little chapter headings with Edie’s Auto Tips. They’re hilarious, poignant, or just dang relatable. Edie’s gluten intolerance hits close to home as my husband has celiac and I can tell that Ms. Novak really understands the intricacies of eating gluten free.
And then there’s the rooster. Sgt. Cornflakes is awesome, just in case you were wondering. If I didn’t live in crowded suburbs, I might have tried to figure out a way to convince my husband to let me get one.

I think I've had just about every emotion possible reading about Luke and Edie. I've laughed, cried, got so infuriated, wanted revenge, felt a deep love and a deep loathing throughout the pages of this fantastic, unique story. I have never read a book by Heather Novak before but I absolutely adored every word of this one. I read this book in a matter of hours, I couldn't put it down.

Edie is living her dream, running her late Grandpa's auto shop; she is a fantastic mechanic and wonderful boss but rather mixed up by her spiteful Mother; seriously, this woman makes my blood boil. I need a hit on the evil, selfish bi@tch. Don't get me started on her ex, Will. Grrr...they should both be put down, in my opinion of course.

Luke had me turned inside out. I love him but his hot/cold behaviour had me heartbroken for Edie at times; he did redeem himself and earn a place in my book husband list. That man made me cry so many tears. I love him so hard!

The people in this town have totally had me laughing and made my heart swell with love for them all. I want everyone to buy this book and settle down to read the wonderfully well-written words that will stay in your heart for a long time.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

Int his book we meet Edith "Edie" Doreen and Luke Moretti. She hasn't carried a torch for her ex since the split 8 months earlier but she sure doesn't want to see him. So when she goes to her younger cousins wedding she is shocked to see him. That is until her mother gets on stage and announces her engagement to the man himself. She knows she can't get out of there fast enough but refuses to make another scene at the wedding. When she gets back to the shop the last person she expects to find is Luke. Luke is back alright but for Edie his return couldn't be worse. Not only does he own his brother's shares of their shared shop he wants to sell, like now sell. Can these two find a HEA or will the problems that are mounting keep them from every finding it?

This is a great story. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Edie runs an autoshop and has put her heart and soul into it. She is not the sole owner though. Her ex-boyfriend Will and his brother Luke have the other shares. Luke left years ago.

At a wedding her mother surprises the audience with a stunning announcement: she is marrying Will! Upset Edie leaves the wedding. Not because of Will (she broke up with him) but because of her mother’s betrayal. And then she runs into Luke, just returned, who also has upsetting news: he wants to sell the autoshop. While Edie is scrambling to get the money together to save her autoshop, she and Luke start spending a lot of time together.

I really liked Edie, as she has a good heart, and the other characters in the story. How I despised her mother! I really got angry several times (okay, it is a book! Calm down) and I would be mad if Edie ever forgave her mother.

For me, there could have been more romance. But these characters seemed real with their emotions and conversations. Good read!

This book was so much fun to read! I want to hang out at Edie's shop! Edie is in a tough spot and how she keeps from just throat punching her mother is beyond me. I called that woman names every time she showed up in the book! This book has everything: great characters, steamy scenes, hysterical situations and Sergeant Cornflakes. Sergeant Cornflakes was such a scene stealer! I loved him!!!!

I do not know how this book got on my list, but I am so thankful that it did. This was intended to be a quick beach read and it did not disappoint. The story was light and fun with a strong female character. The storyline included love and acceptance and there were even a few Michigan references. I am preparing to download more books by Heather Novak.

A Cock, a Green Camaro, & a Cake Block

This is the rom/com I have been waiting for all year! Sure the cast of characters is hilarious but it is the love and loyalty of Edie's crew that gives this story a soul. I want to show up with wine and gluten-free brownies and hang with her tribe... And I haven't even gotten to the romance yet. Luke. *le sigh*

Edie runs an auto shop. At a family member's wedding we learn that her mother intends to marry Edie's ex fiance. It's all unseemly, rude, and clearly there is something wrong with her mother. So it's a good book when I'm invested in the first chapter and want to stab her mother's eyes out.

Her father lives on the other side of the world and Edie seems like an afterthought and not very helpful. Her friends and family help her to understand her mother, but understanding someone and forgiving them for their atrocious behaviors -- and there are many, including questionable parenting of her younger sister -- are two very different things.

My issues: Very few. The title is just too damn long. Not that I disagree with any of the issues, but I feel like they were jammed down my throat. Interracial couples, gay men coming out, women doing traditionally men's jobs, etc. All great topics, but too many and too forced for this book to be perfect.

Looking forward to more books in this series!

Five stars. That's how I'll start this review. This book was amazing. It was everything I wanted and needed in a rom com. It was funny, it was sweet, it made me laugh, it made me cry but most importantly it made me want a pet rooster. Though I live in the city in an apartment so this won't be happening. But a girl can dream and in this book I do.

I loved Edie. She was sweet and kind but she was also kickass. I can honestly say it was cool to see a woman running and auto shop. And it's definitely her running the auto shop. She has a wonderful cast of friends that work with her and also live in the town with her.

Luke stole my heart from the moment he stumbled onto the page. Though I wanted to beat him over the head with my shoe a few times to knock some sense into him, I still loved him. He was a refreshing male character. He was strong and supported Edie without stifling her.

I loved how these two have known each other since they were kids and everyone seems to know how much they care for each other. Well except for Edie and Luke.

My only complaints this book was how much I detested the mother and how part of the storyline played out. That being said it doesn't mean it was bad. It was great. It was how this story needed to be told and what worked for these charactera. This book was so well written. The chemistry of the leads jumps off the pages. The sex scenes are steamy without being completely out of comprehension of how someone could have sex in that position while balancing that on there head. The supporting characters did just that, supported the main leads. Yet they were developed in a way that you related to them and it left you wanting to know what's next for those that are working in Edie's shop.

I cannot recommend this book enough. The characters are fun and wittt, the dialogue is top notch, the sex is steamy and it's just damn good writing. Top 10 read for me this year.

I voluntarily received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The book starts out hilarious, and I knew right away I was at least going to like it.

“Edie’s Tip #42. Blinker fluid is not a real thing, regardless of what those auto shop guys tell you.”

It really only took a few pages in for me to know I was going to love it.  I mean this was some crazy soap opera plot twist nightmare Erica Cane BS going on.

“I couldn’t have heard that right. But then why was my ---MY MOTHER --- locking lips with my ex-fiance.”

I was stunned! Edie’s mother got engaged to Edie’s ex-fiance and announced it at Edie’s cousin’s wedding.  Oh, the horror.  OMG! BTW they call the mother the Dragon, it was so fitting and hilarious.  And the plot thickens more.  Edie, the ex-douche and the ex-douche's brother all own automotive repair shop together that they inherited since their families grew up together in a small town. Yet Edie is the one who runs it with a group of women.  Luke (the ex-douche’s brother) are you keeping up?  Comes back to town the same night as the huge wedding fiasco.  And she (Edie) finds out he is selling the majority share of the business to the Dragon.  Yeah, that’s not going to work for Edie.

Omg, the story was fantastic, it gave me all of the feels!  I laughed a lot but I also teared up.  No, sobbing but my eyes were wet.  And boy did I smile, I smiled and smiled.  Edie realizing she has feelings for Luke after years and years and has all of those insecurities about a guy, sitting waiting for him to call or text.  What woman doesn’t know that feeling?

“If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it have to admit it kept restarting its phone to make sure it was working?”

Luke and Edie's story was so incredibly heartwarming and a pleasure to read.  Not to mention I loved Edie and her garage.  I run an industrial repair shop and I am a big proponent for a woman can do anything a man can do.  I absolutely loved this story and I will be looking for more in this series and will be reading more from Novak.

I am giving this 5 HUGE Boundless Stars, and I adored it to the moon and back.

My heart hurt for Edith as she was berated and humiliated again and again by her selfish and vindictive mother. Every time Edith had to deal with her mother, my heart ached and I think it kept me from truly enjoying this well written romance.
Spoilers: So the way her ex is truly smitten with Edith’s mother and was cheating on her with her mother while they were still engaged made me a bit ill. Will at least had the heart (at the very end) to try to explain and apologize, but her mother never ever admitted that what she did was wrong. It makes me sad just thinking about it.
This overshadowed the deep love she and Luke shared and by the time his reasons for leaving are revealed, I was thinking, OMG, there must be another way he could resolve this without sacrificing his entire life! And the fact that he hadn’t been with a woman in just a month prior to Edith, got me thinking, who was he with? He was living with his secret responsibility for a while, which made me all kinds of uncomfortable.
Still, it was a well written romance with good pacing and witty dialogue. The main couple were worth rooting for, but the whole convoluted thing with her ex marrying her mother had too much ick factor going on for me.

Very funny, with great chemistry and good diversity. The Great Conflict was a bit of a stretch for me. Luke needs to sell Edie's auto shop that he owns 60% of to get money for the widow of a friend of his that died without life insurance. He kept saying that he didn't mean for anyone to get hurt when he was very well aware that the shop was Edie's life and livelihood. So all this angst and grasping for funds and it's all solved at the end with which I understand would have made a it a seriously shorter book if they thought of that at the beginning, but it made all the angst feel unnecessary. Edie's mother was Horrible and the ex Will was Horrible Lite, but Sergeant Cornflakes the rooster made up for all the assholes.

5 stars for the writing, - 1/2 for being single POV (it's rare for me to 5 star a single POV novel), -1/2 for Luke's weird motives (you've been in love with the girl her whole life, let's sell what she's dedicated her whole life to in order to pay for your Marine buddy's wife to have a kid )

Tags- Location: Grenadine, MI (Fictional town about 1 hour NW of Detroit); Military: Luke is a former Marine who is now in disaster recovery

Novak is a brand new author to me but when I read the blurb for Headlights, Dipsticks and my Ex’s brother I was blown away. I NEEDED this book in my hands! I adored this romcom, Novak’s writing is quirky and original. Her storyline is also very refreshing for a romance read!!

Edie is a car girl, she’s been in the shop since she could walk and now everything regarding the place she loves the most is falling apart around her. She’s had it rough the last few months, her leaving her fiancée, being on bad terms with her mother and now Luke her ex Will’s brother is back in town and she can’t keep her thoughts off of him. Luke’s true purpose for being back isn’t what Edie expects though and it sets the course for the rest of the book.

This book was simply hilarious. I would definitely compare Novak to R.S Grey’s writing. The comedy just flowed as did the sexual tension between Edie and Luke. The book has just about everything going for it, it’s a fun read with a lot of laughs and good chemistry among the characters. It’s even got a little drama added in there to make it more interesting. Highly recommend!

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. Loved this story about Edie and Luke. Edith aka Edie or Reeses is part owner and operator of an auto shop. Her ex Will and his brother Luke are also part owners. But they broke up eight months ago and she just found out her mom and Will were engaged, at her cousin's wedding. Finding Luke at her shop after the wedding is almost to much. Giving into the desire, she kisses him but he doesn't kiss her back. But Luke has some important things to tell her, he's selling his share of the business to her mom and Will, who want to get her out of the business. Edie tried to come up with ideas to save the shop, but can't really get the reason for Luke selling. When they both reveal their hidden crushes to each other, things heat up real quick. But when Luke is called home things go nutty. Great story with a lot of dreams. I love her pet rooster Sargent Cornflakes. I got a good laugh.

One of my top reads for 2018 so far!! This story was funny, sweet, sassy and just a great read from beginning to end! I stayed up WAY too late last night finishing this story and then was not ready for the story to end and not for sleep. Definitely a book hangover!

Edie and her guard rooster are just a perfect, crazy pair. First off, I love how zany Edie is. And I'm in admiration of her and her all girl auto repair. That's definitely something admirable. Especially with the other things going on in her life and Edie handles it with sass and a torque wrench.

And this might be one of the best (and most accurate for me) lines in the book: "I'm as pale as a ghost. I turn pink with a four-degree temperature change." Because seriously, that's me to a T!

I can't wait for the next book!! There's still so much in this world of Grenadine Michigan and Edie's Auto that I need to know!!

I really liked this book. The entertaining story is part cute, part sweet and totally enjoyable. Edie was such a lovable character. Sympathetic, unique, smart, caring, funny, capable and 100% genuine. She was just so awesome that I felt an instant attachment to her that made me want to fight her enemies, assist her friends and shelter her from the nastiness and cruelness that was always being shoveled her way. I really liked Luke and I thought he was just perfect for Edie. Their chemistry sizzled. There are many wonderful secondary characters and of course, several detestable ones too. If you want a read that's filled with charm, enough drama to shake a stick at and swoony romance, than this book is for you. I can't hardly wait for the next book in this series. This is my freely posted, sincere review.

I'd give this 4.5 stars out of 5 if I could do halves. I loved this book! Edie was a quirky and lovable character and I loved her voice. I also really appreciate that the all of the characters, from the main ones to the background characters felt like actual real people. They weren't one dimensional or stereotypes. Even the antagonists, who are easy to hate are also easy to understand why they are such a-holes - like actual real people! Like this story could have easily happened in your hometown or with people you know, no secret billionaires or other craziness. I'd only take off half a star for a few places feeling rushed, like I would have liked more detail. But definitely not something that took me out of the story.

First off Edie is the girl you root for. Shes mutlidimensional kind and funny. This book had me as shook from the first chapter.

The book is sex positive and the heat...let's just say its Sahara hot without being uncomfortable or awkward. The sex is well written with just enough explicit to make you want to keep reading.

A lot of romance you're always like WHEN ARE THEY GONNA BONE?! Rushing through the plot only to be disappointed in the chemistry between the characters or unrealistic descriptions.

This author will have you on the edge of your seat until the end shaking the book hoping to get just a little more of this awesome story.

I really enjoyed this book. The author wrote some very good characters. I liked Edie's quirks and individuality - that she wasn't afraid to go against the mold. I really like her friends, her brother Jami, and especially Luke, who was a very romantic, lovable guy. The supporting characters were interesting and contributed to the story. The author also created characters, Edie's ex and her mother, that definitely created the drama and conflict that helped drive the story forward. The narrative flowed well, and pulled me along, wanting to know what happened next, and how it would be pulled together. I enjoyed the rooster, and Dash, who added to the richness of the story.

I look forward to reading more about the people we met in this book, especially Edie's brother Jami.

Let me cut to the chase. I adored this book. The characters are diverse and well developed, the dialogue is witty, the plot is unique, and Edie's tips at the beginning of each chapter are the icing on the cake. Edie is powerful yet flawed. Her internal dialogue is hilarious. She's placed in an impossible emotional situation and you will get all the feels reading her story. She's also a kick-ass mechanic, business owner, female entrepreneur, and general wonderful person you want as your best friend. She also has an awesome guard rooster who is an occasional scene stealer. Bottom line, you want to read this book. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Edie + Luke

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a fun, funny, steamy story that hit me in the feels. Edie was very likable and relatable. Luke was sexy and kind. Their chemistry was palpable. Mom was a horrid human being. The sexism about Edie’s profession is probably realistic but also astonishing that in 2018 it could be a thing. That’s probably me being naïve.

I follow Heather Novak on some social media so I know she was very intentional about making her story inclusive and sex-positive. She absolutely achieved her goal without being heavy handed or obvious. It just was and that is how it ought to be.

If you’re looking for a small town, contemporary romance with kick ass characters and a swoony hero, look no further. I’m looking forward to more books in this series.

4 1/2 stars

Entertainment in the form of a well written book full of twists and shocking revelations. I loved Edie so much and I couldn't believe her mother. Luke was also awesome. The beginning was written exceptionally well - grabbing my interest immediately. The revelations were many and some were more than just shocking. I loved her reactions. I couldn't comprehend some of the things that came out of her mother's mouth. I loved the inclusion of her sister but then that character just disappeared. Is this it? Will there be more? The author gave me an amazing story with wonderful characters that I wasn't ready to leave just yet. Well maybe her ex-fiancé and her mother - but then they did provide a lot of drama and disbelief to the story so maybe not.
