About the author

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

I'm in love with Sherlock, once again. Kemampuannya dalam mengobservasi, berpikir, dan menciptakan deduksi tanpa melewatkan detail sekecil apapun nggak pernah berhenti bikin aku terpana. Plus, kita melihat bahwa betapa Sherlock sangat menghargai dan menghormati perempuan dari caranya mengamati hal-hal terkecil soal kebiasaan dan sifat mereka.

Buku ini berisi lima cerpen Sherlock Holmes yang dicatut dan dikurasi dari antologi utuh seperti The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoir of Sherlock Holmes, dan His Last Bow. Dan menurutku, lebih cocok untuk kalian yang memang sudah mengenal Sherlock Holmes sebelumnya. Sebab, di dalam sini terdapat beberapa anomali daripada cerita Sherlock yang pada umumnya sukses tanpa banyak kendala. Seperti bagaimana dia 'dikalahkan' oleh seorang perempuan bernama Irene Adler juga hal-hal ekstrem yang menyebabkannya hampir terbunuh dalam The Adventure of Reigate Squire.

Gaya tulisannya tegas dan sangat faktual. Ditambah detail-detailnya diriset dengan baik dan hampir tak pernah mirip satu sama lain menjadikan setiap ceritanya unik dan lebih nyata. Bahasa Inggrisnya sendiri cukup mudah buatku dan masih bisa dipahami, tapi ini kembali lagi pada level masing-masing ya!

Dibawakan lewat sudut pandang orang pertama dari Dr. Watson, lucu bagaimana kita bisa melihat kasus-kasus ini dengan lebih dekat tapi terasing di saat bersamaan. Dari kacamata orang luar, penyelidikan Sherlock memang tidak lazim dan cenderung aneh. Belum lagi, dia jarang membeberkan hasilnya secara detail hingga sedetik sebelum kasusnya berakhir. So, it's indeed a wild ride.

I very much enjoyed every bit of this. Seri antologi Sherlock dari GPU ini kurekomendasikan untuk selingan buku lain karena percaya deh, setelah bertemu Sherlock semangat baca bakal naik drastis tis tisss 🚀

From 5 cases presented in the book, I can correctly guessed the culprits in case 2 and 3, and half-guessed in case 5.
The most horrible case is the 5th, with two murders. My fave case is also the 5th.

Holmes is truly a character that's not easy to be friend with, but Watson does a great job. The doctor is such a faithful and attentive partner.

I'm still craving for more Sherlock Holmes stories... Though the mysteries don't involve the supernatural, they're still kinda thrilling to read.

Setelah kelar baca yg short stories #1 ku langsung nyari yg ke #2 ini.

Isinya 5 short stories dan disini akhirnya ku nemu cerita the woman si Irene Adler dan lagi2 'cuma gitu' ceritanya wkwkwk

Intinya cerita aslinya Sherlock tuh lebih simple aja gitu, gak terlalu berat nan serius. Dan ku nambah suka ma karakter si Sherlock nih. Kaya pinter bet gitu kesannya hahaha
