Know the details of each part of Scrum so you can understand the purpose each part serves in the framework. Many books describe the “what” part of Scrum, but few explain the “why." Every part of the Scrum framework is important. You need to know the purpose behind each of the parts of the Scrum framework to reap all of its benefits. This book uses stories and examples to provide the understanding of Scrum that is necessary to avoid failure in an Agile transformation effort, and fills an important gap in the existing body of literature about the Scrum framework. Advanced topics also are scaled Scrum, Scrum for projects, and Scrum for the program and portfolio level.
What You'll Learn Who This Book Is For
Management professionals, existing Scrum masters, product owners, and Scrum developers, and beginners looking to learn Scrum
I have real trouble rating and reviewing this book. On one hand, it is an excellent book about Scrum and a wonderful guide to avoiding many of the pitfalls that teams can fall into when they think they’re following Scrum.
On the other hand, this book really does not address the challenges of navigating a hybrid Scrum environment as the title would imply until you get to the appendices. Honestly, it felt like I was missing half the book. I actually had to check whether or not this was a beta book with more chapters pending.
All in all, I would recommend buying this book if you’re new to the Scrum framework as it would make a great resource (but could benefit from more real-world examples), but if you’re looking for a book that will help you navigate the challenges of implementing Scrum in a hybrid environment, this book won’t really help you much.
The author is a master at returning Scrum participants back to the simplicity of the Scrum Guide at every tempting turn toward Hybrid Scrum Environments. Every time you consider turning away from fundamental Scrum practices re-read this book. The contents will quickly and simply put you back on the right path to success. Modification without root cause analysis first is dangerous and time wasting. This book takes you back to the roots of Scrum quickly and efficiently. There is deep thinking hidden underneath the simplicity of the text. Use this to your advantage and save yourself, your company and the world a lot of heartache.
