Alivia always knew that she might someday lay down her life for her country. She just never imagined it would be inside its own borders at the hands of a self-proclaimed patriot. Political fallout from a recent terrorist attack has NEST—the New England Special Terrorist division—stretched razor-thin. It is the worst possible time to combat an empowered, homegrown terrorist hell-bent on turning the clock back centuries on American progress. After arranging the murder of a young black man at the hands of neo-Nazi skinheads, the charismatic Andre Sauber and his army of thugs seize a diverse, inner-city high school. His goal is as simple as it is force the government to release a faction of violent, like-minded criminals, unleashing a revolution that will forever destroy the fabric of modern America. With the student body locked down and the death toll rising, NEST turns to their most skilled agent, Alivia Morgan. An anti-terrorist expert trained abroad by Special Ops and the elite Army Rangers, she’s ready for the fight of her life. As her compatriots fall one by one, a battered Alivia fights on. But is one warrior enough end the bloodshed and stop the radical extremists? David J Antocci is a noted wordsmith, blogger and author. His work can be read regularly on the Worcester Telegram and Gazette website where he has spent many years writing about the trials and tribulations of being a real life Mr. Mom. While his first love is music, he has put down the guitar in recent years in order to pour his passion into writing… and the gentle tap of the keys on his laptop are much less disruptive late at night when the children are sleeping. The ESCAPE books are his first published foray into fiction. He lives in New England with his beautiful wife and children.
I am a fan of the Escape trilogy, and thought I was up to date on this author & his releases, but apparently I was not!! Shame on me. So I Facebook, I follow the author's page, and he was providing copies of Reformation, and I was lucky to get one. As I went to post this review, is when I saw it was book 2 of the NEST series - which I wish I would have read the 1st one first. (I went & bought it, but I do like my books in order). So now I'll keep an eye for the next.
So this book as a stand alone was great, I very much enjoyed it. The story kept me engaged, I cringed, I cheered, I swore - it really had me at the edge of my seat. Why not 5 stars then? Well, at the beginning, there was a bit of an adventure that really made me go really??? And actually, I didn't immediately go to the next chapter, because I felt, if the rest was so over the top like that - then I was going to have to mentally prepare for the rest.. BUT NO!! I was so wrong! I'm glad I kept going, so if early on, you think, "no, this is too much", keep going, the page turner happens after.. The other reason not the full 5, was because there is a teaser so early on in the book, as in Chapter 1, and for me as a reader, I think it's OMG, I want to know more, but I don't. So I'm not a fan of the 'tease'. Especially if you start with it.. But, needless to say, I will read the next book.
This is book does contain graphic violence. But I really enjoyed it.
4 1/2 stars I read this book in 2 days. Couldn’t put it down! Fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was worried about the subject matter but it was so well written. Also, the book was written about the area near where I live and provided some history I wasn’t aware of. This was my first book by this Author but I can’t wait to read more from him. I’ve already purchased another of his books!
A very intriguing and relevant book for these times. Racism, terrorism, school security, and neo-Nazi skinheads are all part of this amazing thriller. The characters are well written and the plot is spellbinding.
This is my first book by this author but I will definitely be reading more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Once again there is no good place to take a break while reading this series. The action is fast from the first to the last page. This time however, Alivia's exploits are a bit over the top. She might need to learn that there's no "I" in "team". Still, a very believable story, especially for the times in which we're living.
