Did not read book 1 of the series but had no problem reading this as a standalone. The story did not take place in Vampira/human realm itself but in the Bloodrayne's kingdom.
The premise and plot was interesting, though the world building still left a lot to be satisfactory. Strange sayings like "vampires heaven!" As epithets or swear words... And wishing "a good night's sleep " in the morning... That's still following human convention of sleeping in the night. Perfectly fine for a vampire to say I had a great day's sleep I'd think!
But the story was hot and I clearly felt the bond among the kings and their dearly beloved queen. Only the blind trust and belief in the Seer got really irritating.
It is a short story so the ending felt rushed and resolved too easily. But nevertheless a satisfying read with HEA.
PS. I do not read F/F and the thought of having the hero touching another woman makes me see red; these (female touching female) took place in the book so beware!
Dark Heat is another sizzling read by Jan Springer. With this second book in the Vampira series, Ms. Springer has combined non-stop erotic action with enduring love. What’s not to like?
The heroine is the kind of mother we’d all hope to be—willing to sacrifice anything to keep her children safe. She’s a vampire queen on the run from her two domineering kings, running because a prophecy says they’ll kill their own children. I loved how the author kept me guessing all the way through the book. There’s also a deliciously creepy villian I never saw coming.
I found the sex scenes bold and inventive. Kudos to Ms. Springer for making me squirm in a good way. As the title implies, Dark Heat is decadent and erotic.
The concept of Vampira, a coven of female vampires hiding from the males of their race, is intriguing. I hope there will be more books in the series, soon.
Dark Heat can be read as a stand-alone, however, the prequel, Sweet Heat, is on my keeper shelf. I’d recommend both.
Torture has never been so tempting. Sign me up next because I'm all for this kind.
Captured by the two vampires who had claimed her as their mate, Megan knew she was in trouble. There was no gentle treatment for prisoners in her old clan, especially those thought to be traitors. So why was there a spark of emotion, other than anger, in her mates' gazes?
I was gripped by the tension of the characters and completely lost in the story. On the edge of my seat(squirming slightly), reading furiously to try to relieve Megan's need. There was nothing to mar the reading of this completely captivating tale of sensual torture. Although to be honest with the heat and tension levels, I doubt I would have noticed.
If you desire a trip into unrelenting sensual heat then I highly suggest reading this book. Be prepared to squirm.
