“NO PLAN IS NOT THE SAME AS NO HOPE.” When the Maymar colonists found twin planets circling a far-off star, they chose Una to be their new home and left Dua alone. Led by the Mayland family for three generations, they have carefully executed the founders’ Plan for steady growth, and life has become as predictable as the rising and setting of Dua in the sky. But twins don’t like to be separated. And not everything can be planned. When the discovery of miraculous healing water triggers a chain of events no one could have predicted, Cara and Tom Mayland must adapt or their colony will not survive.
Deborah Dunlevy was born in Indiana and grew up everywhere else. Even moving every year or two couldn't satisfy her desire for adventure, so she learned how to read and started taking trips into other people's lives. Eventually she grew up and went to college and got a respectable job as a teacher. Then she ditched that to go live on the other side of the world, where she had a few kids and learned what adventure was really about.
Deborah now lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Nate, her three kids, and an Argentine hound dog.
This book is a wonderful survival story at its core set on a planet named Una where a few colonists have lived for generations. On a routine exploration trip, a discovery of strange healing water is made that changes everything. We follow twins, Tom and Cara Mayland as they must survive and adapt so all the colonists survive.
The plot simmers at first, but about halfway through it boils over and the twists just don’t stop coming. I loved how the chapters alternated between Tom and Cara so that we could see the plot build from both POVs and how their actions and decisions affected not only each other but the others characters at well.
It was also refreshing to read a book where there was really not villain other than nature itself. The characters felt real in that they each had their own flaws, but given the situations you could understand their motives (even if I didn’t always agree with them.)
So, if you haven’t given Twin a try, I definitely recommend it! It was a solidly paced and entertaining read perfect for anyone who loves a good sci-fi, survival thriller.
I also want to extend a special thanks to the author for reaching out about her book and giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoy all her stories! The book of sight series got me hooked on her books. Although it was about very young people, I still enjoyed how they worked out things and had each others backs! Fun and adventure!!
This book took several turns....never knowing what will happen next. Interesting characters, imaginative solutions and inventive twists. It’s a good read!
