August lies a little too well, but only when it's important or when she's getting paid to con someone working private security with her crew. She never knows where the job will take her next, but she loves it, so when she finishes her first year of college and comes home to a special security job teamed up with her best friend, she's up for the challenge. She has to play house with Spencer and infiltrate a picket fenced, Homeowner's Association neighborhood to protect an innocent woman from her violent ex who's hellbent on reuniting against her will.

Guns, knives, fighting and lies? Just another day at the office. Until Spencer drops a bomb on August. Friendship isn't enough for him anymore. He wants more. He wants her. She denies feeling the same way, but he's not falling for her lies anymore, and fighting for each other soon turns into fighting against each other.

How hard could it be to play happy housewife for her neighbors while fighting with her fake husband behind strained smiles and impulsive lies? How hard could it really be to con Spencer, too? Much harder than she thought, considering the cretin challenges every word out of her mouth.

***It does have a cliffhanger ending.***

Lying is the second book in the Fighting series. It is not necessary to read Fighting first.

I'm a story junkie. I love to read, write and basically inhale all kinds of stories, mostly books. Sometimes movies. Occasionally cartoons. I write my two favorite genres, action/adventure and romance.

**3.5**

I was pretty excited for this follow up to Fighting so expectations were kind of high. I was really enjoying it for a while and it was about a 4 for most of it. But I think it could have trimmed down a bit in places because it started to drag on toward the end. However part of that might have had something to do with the fact that I knew it ended as a cliffhanger and I was waiting for that shoe to drop. And that's really unfortunate because I feel like this could have ended with a well-rounded conclusion, rather than the cliffhanger. And that cliffhanger. It's no secret I hate them and normally steer clear of any book that has one. But I hoped for the best here since I waited so long for this book. But I haaaaated it more than I even anticipated. So this lost a half a star from the 4.

Is this...is this for REAL?!

I can't tell you how long I've been waiting for the next book! Fighting is one one of those books that I still go back and check in on every once in awhile, just to see if the author was planning anything or if a new book had magically appeared.

But did I actually expect it to happen after this long!?

I'm floored. And it's coming out NEXT MONTH!?

Cat, you are most definitely the answer to all of my hopes and dreams.

Alex and Ethan made me fall in love with them. Seriously. Can't wait to see more from August!

Please excuse me while I go pass out from the overload of sunshine and happiness and those pesky little things called feelings.

I received a Kindle copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I liked seeing how things played out between Spencer and August, as well as learning about August's past. And the story line involving Trinity was very interesting.

There were a few grammatical errors, but the story line was so good that it was easy to overlook those. I haven't read the first book, Fighting, yet, but plan to read it after I read the third book, Confessing. This book ends on a cliff hanger, so I want to read the third book before going back to the first.

Great follow up to Fighting (book 1). It's not necessary to read Fighting prior to this book. This book does end with a cliffhanger but it's because the action part of the story continues. The H and h are a couple and are happy so that portion doesn't leave us hanging. There are some editing errors here and there but nothing that affected my reading enjoyment. The price of the book was more than what I normally like to pay but it had plenty of meat to chew on so I didn't feel jipped. The chemistry and love was believable. All in all, I really liked this book. Definitely enough to shell out another $4.99 book the second part (Confessing).

Ok, I'm just going to copy and paste my tweets:

SO THIS IS THE WAY I'M GONNA DESCRIBE THIS BOOK it has long boring parts about suburban lifestyle, and then the second half has action scenes, but you know those action movies that have really long action scenes to the point you get really bored? so exactly like that.

And it keeps the reader on this up and down rhythm where everything is stretched and loooong, to the point that WHEN YOU FINALLY GET TO THE TWIST PART you are just numb, tired, done, and the twist looses flavour (i'm sorry i'm having an emotional day).

AND- IT ENDS WITH A CLIFFHANGER??

I'm too old for this.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed seeing August’s and Spencer’s love blossom in this book, it ended on a cliffhanger so I’m looking forward to seeing how it ends in the next book. It was nice to see the rest of the crew from ‘fighting’, this book also had lots of action, humour and romance.

Okay, it’s not that this book was bad, but it was way longer than it needed to be. For example, the first 20% were completely unnecessary for the overall plot.

I want to start by saying the first book in this series was incredible. It's not very often that I find myself liking the second book in a series almost as much as the original, but that happened in this case. The first book was the perfect enemies to lovers romance, while this one was the perfect friends to lovers romance.

August and Spencer separate from the original team to go on an undercover mission early on in the book. I liked that there was some distance from the original group to separate this story more. I was able to completely focus on Spencer and Augusts relationship. I loved that the romance was the main focus of this book, and the plot was still interesting enough to keep you sucked in. I often find that these types of action books don't focus on the romance aspect as much as I would like, but that wasn't the case with this book at all.

This book had the perfect balance of everything. This was a friends to lovers romance that really picked up around halfway through the book. A good connection is established between these two characters before they actually get together, which was perfect. Highly recommend!
