In a dark weapons program breeding subjects specifically for magic use, the 23rd attempt, now called Wanda, was finally able to connect to violent magics – making her one of the deadliest people on the planet!
Weapon Hex has probably been the most interesting Infinity Wars mashup I’ve read so far. X-23 and Scarlet Witch combine to create Weapon Hex. The first issue covers a large chunk of their early backstories. When you stop and think about the origin stories for X-23 and Scarlet Witch, they both have significant differences, but a shocking number of similarities too. I think that’s why they combined so well. Here their creators combine genetics and magic to try and create the perfect weapon. I was surprised by some of the funnier moments in here, a few quotable lines in the beginning, as well as the revelation of another combination of characters (Laura’s little sister and Quicksilver). Seeing other combinations was interesting as well. Cloak and Dagger both make appearances, with their combined characters, of course. I wasn’t expecting either of those combos…but it kind of works.
Weapon Hex is my roman empire. (Review of both Weapon Hex #1 and #2)
As a huge Laura Kinney and Wanda Maximoff fan, this is just so good and easy to read because I loved both characters. We got to see and know more about Sarah Kinney, even though isn't the real one, but what Sarah was supposed to be for Laura. In Innocence Lost we can all see how much she cared for Laura, but she didn't lasted more than 10 years in Laura's life.
I just liked a lot the story matches between Laura and Wanda, repeating the death of Sarah Kinney from the real timeline and Wanda's spell in the M-Day. In every universe, Laura kills Sarah.
In Weapon Hex #2 we see a mix between Gabby Kinney and Quicksilver, who is just so cute and just fit it really well. Although not as interesting as Gabby, Gavrill Kinney suits for the moment, and we can see the brief relationship between the mixture of Kinneys and Maximoffs.
I also can't get over the fact that Laura was a book lover, reading to escape her reality just like me and lots of people around the world. It makes her even more human, maybe because of Sarah's influence, and I just can't stop thinking of what would've happened if Laura was raised in The Facility with Sarah until 18 years old. I guess we'll never know.
Speed Weasel comic would've been great, but I don't think Marvel will ever come back to this subject.
