Sutherland #1

Tory Roof

Rate this book
She sensed Terrence before she saw him, smelled lavender and lemon in the old house she was selling. When he appeared, he was as real as she a bold 1765 Revolutionary, posing as a Tory. He drew her into his world. Her husband didn't like it. But she couldn't say no. There was something she had to do. What happens when a smart, logical, modern woman doubts herself because something unexplainable has occurred? Tory Roof is her story - an account of love and longing set against a time of political unrest. Sarah Sutherland is caught between past and present, unable to reconcile her two realities. Turning to a psychiatrist for help, she gradually learns the people around her are not as they seem and that her life is in danger in both realms. Danger. Deception. Desire. Ideal for those who enjoy literary/historical fiction, time travel romance, psychological suspense, and endings that surprise.

Jill C. Baker grew up in a small town in New York state where, as a teenager, she wrote a weekly newspaper column, experimented with poetry, and reviewed summer stock theatre. She pursued her interest in media and writing at Boston University's College of Communication, graduating with a major in Broadcasting & Film. Upon graduation, she moved to Southern California to work in film production. With a relocation to San Francisco and eventually back to Boston, she returned to her newspaper roots, serving as a copywriter, AV producer, and promotion manager for leading publishers such as Hearst and Harte-Hanks. Following a detour into the non-profit sector, she became Director of Marketing for a digital publishing provider in the magazine industry. Constantly facing deadlines and rigorous commutes, she often wondered what it would be like to simply disappear and do something else -- thus the motivation for the Sutherland Series. Jill and her husband live in New England where they've raised two sons and several cats. The rich historic setting provides valuable inspiration.

When real estate agent Sarah Sutherland opens the door to the 18th century house she’s showing, she has no idea she’s in for the adventure of a lifetime. Set in present day and pre-Revolutionary War New England, Tory Roof gives us a thrilling romance, a plot twist I never saw coming, and heroes and villains enough for two centuries. It is also impeccably researched and presents a welcome slant on the part women played in creating our country. For history buffs, fans of romance and of time travel, and anyone who loves an engaging tale, well told. I found Tory Roof unputdownable and have already ordered the next book in the series.
