Capturing the magic and finest festive traditions of Fortnum & Mason, Christmas and Other Winter Feasts gathers together everything you need to enjoy a truly delicious winter.
A joyous celebration of Fortnum & Mason’s love for extraordinary seasonal food, Christmas and Other Winter Feasts is filled with flavoursome recipes for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, as well as Guy Fawkes and Burns’ Night.
From seasonable soups to hearty January eating, and featuring exclusive stories from the Fortnum & Mason archives, Christmas and Other Winter Feasts is the essential accompaniment to any party, gathering or feast.
In my opinion nobody does Christmas quite like the Brits. So I was looking forward to reading this, as it was done by one of the quintessential foodie hubs in all of England!
It was refreshingly decadent and an unabashedly ENGLISH read. The way they embrace their traditions was wonderful, even if some of the dishes were not to my taste their affection for the old ways was comforting.
What made it even better was the wonderful wit and slight cheekiness that Parker Bowles brought to it all. Long may Fortnum and Mason reign!
I loved this cookbook. The mini essays throughout are informative and funny. Plus I loved finding out more of the history of Fortnum & Mason. Also how could I not love a cookbook that introduces me to the word ‘pulchritudinous’.
What a fantastically splendid book, packed full of wonderful recipes using exotic ingredients from that most magnificent emporium known as Fortnum and Masons.! Just the sort of book into which a chap or chappess might wish to delve to come up with a dish for Guy Fawkes night, Christmas or even the rigours of January. Nearly every recipe is paired with a suitable glass of wine or cup of tea and there are delightful introductions to each chapter with humourous illustrations. What's not to like?
I'm ashamed I've only thought of English cuisine in terms or fish and chips; and beef and Yorkshire pudding. Oh and cold toast. This book will blow your mind and blow away your preconceived notions. The foods coming out of Fortnum and Mason are exotic beyond your imagination. Kudos to Tom Parker Bowles for putting together this mix of clever anecdotes and recipes.
This book contains lots of interesting facts about F&M and winter celebrations. It didn't contain recipes that I would make as they were mostly very traditional (including several recipes for game meat, which I avoid eating). However, this would be a very instructive and useful book if you liek to keep to the traditional English way of celebrating the various feasts of winter.
A fun holiday cookbook that will get you in the mood for Christmas & the Wintertime. Beautiful photos and illustrations. Recipes are a mix of easy and challenging. Some are simple and some require complex ingredients. So far I've made the Sausage rolls and they turned out excellent! Looking forward to making more of these recipes next winter.
More a cookbook than F&M’s tea book, but still beautiful and gorgeous and just nice to sit and pick up and flip through here and there. Maybe I’ll try cooking some of the recipes one day.
