Meet Chloe: passionate about midwifery and on the cusp of adulthood. As a student midwife in inner-city Leicester, Chloe finds fulfilment caring for women and families from wide-ranging backgrounds - but will her own personal challenges derail her ambitions? Having recently lost her mother, and supporting her father through addiction, Chloe must make difficult choices and reconcile her rewarding yet demanding career with loyalty for those she loves. New Walk is a profoundly moving coming-of-age story, where midwifery, birth and the decisions life throws at us combine to shape a young woman's life.
This novel had me on a roller coaster of emotions. It is an unapologetically raw, truthful, and real representation of women’s experiences, rights, and births. As I followed Chloe on her passionate yet vulnerable journey into midwifery, I felt completely as though I was in her shoes and I was rooting for her success the entire time. Chloe’s character is strong and capable, yet twinged with vulnerability and doubt. Through all of her hardship, she pushes on through against the odds, as if she has an inner guidance steering her on this rocky path. This was indeed a memorable read. I can hardly wait for the second instalment. ♡
I absolutely loved this as a student midwife myself.
Would recommend anyone to read this who is a midwife, student midwife or interested in midwifery!!
It gives such an insight into how amazing student midwives are and the pressures we all face as well as tackling real life issues that need to be talked about more.
This book shows how passion for something can give you the fight to push through the hard days and follow your dreams.
Well I devoured this in two days! It was captivating and incredibly well written. The character of Chloe is likeable and relatable and the different challenges she faces are so realistic and you really feel for her. Can’t wait for the next book!!!
⭐️ 4/5 - I have had this sat on my TBR shelf for years, it was finally time to read it!
I have always wanted to be a midwife. I am in a career which I love right now, but I have considered retraining many times to become a midwife, maybe one day. I kind of collect books about midwifery, I just love them. This is a perfect addition to my collection.
New Walk is written by a trained midwife, who practiced for many years. She has years of experience and this came across in the book. Chloe, the FMC, is about to embark on her midwifery journey. She is relatable and I felt I was with her every step of the way.
New Walk is a real, honest representation of women’s rights and experiences with childbirth (and beyond). I really enjoyed this book and would love to read a second instalment.
It was a good read but nothing that made you say WOW! It had a few twists and turns but I didn’t think it included enough midwifery. I’m in a US midwifery program and was really hoping for a book that was allll about that midwife life. Wanted to fully immerse myself in it. This wasn’t it. Still enjoyed the read.
