Sometimes, our loved ones are not the people we always imagined them to be. Sometimes they are not worth our love, even though we can’t help but give it.... Sometimes our loved one’s actions hurt not only us, but others we love. - Sean de Ville
I feel the first thing that needs to be pointed out here is that this is not a Stockholm syndrome situation, protagonist Mara is always a willing participant in the fun, she can say no at any time. There is a power difference here and she is a prisoner but when Mara walks away from the men they let her go and leave her be. Mara is very easy to put yourself in her shoes if that is what floats your boat. She is capable and intelligent. Her men are interesting to me. They are Sean the caring but lost father, Robyn the trickster and Richard the loyal earnest worker. They are cousins. It was a fascinating mix. Their sex is amazingly hot and always together, this isn't a reverse harem it's menage. Honestly, I would have liked to see the story spin out more. There is something in this story in the relationship that isn't common, more jealousy but that isn't the extent of it.
While I've read in other reviews that the title was misleading or strange I disagree with that, I think the title was well thought out, the devils of the title were a perception of Mara's mind, of the larger society. Bought by Three Hard Devils is a strange little novel, although the author calling it a full-length novel feels like a bit of a stretch. It's well under 200 pages and I read it in a few hours. But it was well edited with no glaring flaws. There is a lot of sex involved but it isn't the focus this is a character and plot-driven story. While it is quite clearly dystopian setting my lasting impression of it is one of a fairytale.
