"I'd landed in New York to commit a crime, but that wasn't the problem..."
Jon Kaine is a business psychologist – confident, successful, and more used to seminars than bar room brawls. But when a beautiful woman walks into a New York bar Kaine's life becomes anything but theoretical. As the night descends into violence he's forced to reawaken a buried part of himself, and put his skills to darker use.
With a razor sharp plot, fast dialogue and a stripped-down reading time, this is the short, gripping 'pilot' for Nick Warren’s acclaimed new thriller series. If you like your stories lean, mean and intelligent... you’ll love this.
I've upped my opinion since the first reading. It's not a bad prologue to a series, but it takes a long time to get rolling. I kept thinking that the hero would suddenly turn into an animal and kick some ass, but that's not who he is. He's a mild mannered guy with a good knowledge of human behavior and the ability to use what he knows to control people without them even being aware that he's controlling them. I guess from the buildup of the story, I expected more than what was delivered. Still, it was an enjoyable read.
Dr. Jon Kaine is a psychologist. He doesn't have an office, he works for companies who need work done (under the radar), to figure people out. His job assignment in New York city almost gets him and an "innocent bystander" killed. I didn't like the story at first. Too much background alot of psychological explainations. I read on, the background turned out to be important to the story. It was very exciting. This is the pilot book to the series. It is short and easy to read, took me one day. I like the main character and look forward to eventually reading the series. You should too.
