My best friend, Liam Mattison, was born with snow in his veins.
Me? Ice.
Maybe that’s why my eyes are this color. Maybe it’s because I was born in Caribou, where there’s more snow than sun.
I always knew I had a chill within me, but after my time with the army, that chill froze over. I saw and did things most people couldn’t fathom. I made contacts with people who were more beast than man.
I came home altered, and there was no going back.
Except I did. It had to be done, and I didn’t regret it.
But now I’m thrust back into a world where people had forgotten my name. Back into a past I walked away from.
Memories of all the things I’ve done, of the people I’ve left behind, are floating to the surface.
The late-night summons wasn’t really unexpected.
The request was.
Saying no is impossible when you’re the only man equipped for the job. Saying no is difficult when what you really want to say is yes.
So here I am, past and present colliding with a woman I intentionally left behind. A woman who needs me to keep her alive.
I made a promise, and I will keep it.
Even if I die doing it. Even if it means the ice inside me goes subzero.

People. I don't think anyone understands the sadness I have in me for giving this book only three stars. Because I love love LOVE Cambria Hebert. I've loved every single book of hers that I've read so far. However this book seriously didn't do it for me.

Now, I went into this book so super excited that this was Alex's book. We were finally going to learn about him and why he was the way he was in Liam and Bellamy's books. So obviously that was what I was expecting. A book about Alex. About learning about him. And falling more in love with him than I already was. But I didn't get that. I felt this was more Sabrina's book than anything. Every single important moment they went through was ALWAYS in her POV. Which was bullshit. She was introduced in this book. For the first damn time. We've been following Alex since the beginning. For three damn books. And all of a sudden his love interest is introduced and she takes precedence over Alex and his feelings and his story? I didn't like Sabrina enough to care about her like I did Alex. I wanted Alex's thoughts and feelings on what was happening to them. Not hers.

I'm so damn salty about this book. Like super pissed off. And just upset that this was the series ending book. I wanted so much more from this book than I got. It just left me super disappointed.

Stunning finale!

I wanted Alex's book from the moment I met him in Avalanche. He's this mix of charming, sexy and mysterious that you can't possibly resist. He makes you notice him. Makes you want to know more about him.

So through three books (really good book, just to add) we watch Bellamy and Liam fall in love and deal with the dark reality of their lives, with a just occasional glimpse of Alex and not even a single female you can say "she's the one for him". That's because she was miles away, buried in his past life.

I loved Sabrina. She's fun, strong-minded and so sassy. No-nonsense girl, who isn't afraid to put the big, bulky, military guy to his place when he needs to be put in his place.

However a turn of events brings them back together.

He's the guy who hurt her when he walked away, and the only guy strong enough to protect her from what's coming.

And cramped in his little cottage house in Caribou the old feelings come back to life as they try to figure out how to deal with their past and move on, so they could maybe have a future together.

Will they succeed or will the past catch up to them? You'll have to get to Subzero to find out!

Oh I had been waiting for Alex’s book since the first book in the BearPaw series and boy it did not disappoint one bit. We knew Alex pretty well at this point, and knew some of his past but not many details... we got them all in this book - his past in the army and the girl he had left behind years ago.

I felt like this book was much softer than the past books and after everything these characters had been through their whole lives, I’m very thankful for it. But don’t worry you suspense lovers, there is still plenty of it and action, just not quite as aggressive as before.

Alex managed to surprise me, I had no idea he was so romantic and could be so muchy-muchy. I enjoyed it so much, and so did Liam now that he could pay him back with all the mocking. It was so fun.
I loved watching him in love, and caring for someone in a romantic way, I mean I knew he was protective but seeing him that way for his own girl was way better.

I adored Sabrina and her story with Alex, it was dangerous and angsty but their love was so special. And I’m so glad that she found a more extensive family to love her, alongside her brother Daniel. He too was amazing and I hope one day Cambria will tell his story, even if it’s not now.

I might be sad to see these characters go but it’s been such an amazing adventure, and I know I’ll revisit them time and time again, specially on those long winter days cozying up by the fire place, those are the perfect days to read this series. Get right in the fall/winter spirit.

A miss for me ...

I feel bad because I love this author and her series but this book was a miss for me, and it is really over 1 reason. So, consider it a spoiler.

The plot was good - we knew Alex was a special ops and probably would be called back or something to that nature after the other books ... and having the 2nd chance romance be one of his teams sister was sweet. I enjoyed Sabrina and her wit and toughness.

I have a HUGE pet peeve after couples having passionate sex after a huge tragic physical event. It is extremely unrealistic and while yes, it is a book - I just hate it.

They were in a HUGE rollover car crash. They both have concussion, stitches and multiple injuries yet the first time they have sex is that night. Literally a few hours later.

Nope. No.

So that's my reason for 3 stars. Maybe it is harsh.

📖 1st IMPRESSIONS 📖
I have been anticipating Alex's book once I found out he was having one and let me just say that within the first few pages and chapters I was already hooked. He was always a character that was intriguing to me and right off the bat the feels have begun....mystery, suspense, and all. Looking forward to more..

I didn't like the pre-history between the MC's. Their way of handling and not handling their past together was just so unattractive, awkward and misplaced for me.
I think I really would have liked this story, if they had met for the first time during this book and fallen in love during this book.

I knew Subzero was about Alex from the start and couldn't wait to get to this book! He's just so interesting and has many layers to him. At first he just seems like this really entertaining, caring guy, but as the series goes on more and more comes to light. He can be Ice, this dark, deadly, man who will do absolutely anything for his family. It makes for a very intriguing character and adds to the storyline. His past is still very difficult for him and he has to come to terms with some things in Subzero. The storyline was good and in tune with the other Bearpaw books. Sabrina is a nice addition. She gives Alex a hard time and it's quite funny to see. She's also very sweet and brings out more of the lighter side of Alex. She gets him to see that he's more than his past, which he really needs. I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow despite all the ups and downs. They're a very cute couple. Now onto #Vacay, which I'm so excited about!!

4.5 Stars for this suspenseful book.

I really liked Alex and Sabrina's story. I've always been curious about this character from the previous book and I liked that there was a past between the two, and they didn't have to start from scratch so to speak, especially since this book is a standalone.

It was a fast read and the characters, with their undeniable chemistry, kept me hooked to the pages and rooting for them. If I had to compare it to the previous books, I'd say this one was more straighforward plot-wise, but with the same amount of suspense and romance that makes this series a must-read. I loved both character. Sabrina was a great heroine, and not at all a damsel in distress, which is the risk sometimes these types of plot carry with them.

As for Alex, his devotion to Sabrina and his unwavering love for her were my favorite aspect of him. I understood his conflict with his past and wanting to keep her safe and I have to say I would have liked to be a bit deeper in his psyche. I felt like Liam's character had had more layers than Alex, but also Liam had three books, while this is a standalone.

All in all, great book, fantastic characters and a suspensefull plot that made me devour it.
Also, seeing Bellamy and Liam with Shaw was sooooo cute, as well as Shaw and Alex together!!!!

What a way to end a series! I wanted to know more about Alex from the moment I met him. And this story lives up to everything! As is always the case with Cambria Hebert, this book, this whole series sucks you in and gives you all the feels. I adore the characters, I adore BearPaw resort. I want to live there, I want to meet Liam, Alex, Bellamy and Sabrina. Hebert is brilliant and writing a family of characters, a family you want to spend lots of time with.

Hebert is my go to author, any book she writes is pure magic, but I especially LOVE the family feel she gives and the way every reader feels included in that family.

Honestly, the star of this book for me is Sabrina’s brother. I really wish he had his own full length book. I know (Because I’m reading these out of order) that he gets a small cameo in #Vacay (which is basically a novella combining the characters in this series and the Hashtag series). His character and his story could definitely fill up an entire book!

Alex and Sabrina were cute together. I liked Sabrina for him. We don’t get too much info on their backstory (bummer). Just that they’d had a short romance when she was 17. And they only kissed.

This was definitely a page turner. From the very beginning. I love the suspense element that’s been part of this series.

I’m so happy that we finally get to know so much more about Alex. He’s so much more than the lovable, over protective bff. This one was pretty much nonstop action and a dose of suspense thrown in. There was a lot going on with him and Sabrina. That poor girl may be small, but she’s scrappy. She was one totally badass fighting machine. What a ride this one was. I’m sad to see the end of this series but I really hope Sabrina’s brother get his own book. I’m intrigued with the whole deep undercover military world he’s apart of.

DNF at 75%.

I really liked the first 3 BearPaw books, but this one I couldn't get into. It was way too similar of a setup to the first 3 and wasn't anything fresh. I couldn't get invested in Alex and Sabrina the way I did with Bellamy and Liam.

Still entertaining, just not anything different.

This was AMAZING!!

I loved, loved, loved Alex's story!! I loved meeting Sabrina, and seeing the growth of Bellamy and Liam's relationship. (It was amazing to see how much Bellamy has flourished and become a care-taker after finally having people to take care of her in return.)

Alex... My heart! He needs lots of cuddles and the occasional smack over the head to counteract his self-loathing. Sabrina is perfect for him. She's sweet, but strong, and very matter of fact about reality.

I found it interesting how although Sabrina's story was similar to Bellamy's in that she had been essentially ripped out of her life, but she didn't really miss it. The only thing/person she wanted from her life was her brother. Daniel was her whole world. Other than not having him, she was actually very content where she was obviously she wasn't completely safe, but it was kind of irrelevant because she felt so at home Bear Paw. She trusted Alex when he said they were in it together, and she planted her feet to fight of she had to. Sabrina is a bit like a mountain herself. She absolutely is Alex's match.

Her visiting the life she'd had before only confirms her truth that she already knew: her old life didn't belong to her anymore.. and she didn't want it to - she didn't miss it, and wasn't grieving for it. She had what she really needed in Alex. He was her home.

All in all, I'm so dang happy that Alex and Sabrina got their happy ending!! I can't wait until him and Liam both have a herd of kids that adore them, but still terrorize the heck out of them! Karma and all!!! He and Liam having them all on snowboards by age two; Bellamy teaching the kids to cook with her; and I totally think Sabrina could start self-defense classes for women and it would be awesome! (I'm not going to spoil the ending!!)

After reading the first three, I couldn't wait for Alex's story. He's been a huge part of Liam and Bellamy's story that you felt he needed his own. Alex shows a playful laid back exterior but buried deep down he has demons and a switch that can flip and he can go cold.

He's retired military and has been through stuff that has changed him completely. He's needed those skills to save Bellamy, but now with an old teammate on his doorstep and his past bubbling up he's going to need all of his skills to not only battle those demons but keep the woman he loves safe, even from him.

Sabrina is a strong character like all the rest of the women Cambria has written. Her life is in danger, but that doesn't stop her from being feisty and protecting the one man she'll never get over. She loves Alex but doesn't want to see him killed because he's protecting her.

This is filled with excitement, sweet moments, dark moments, and alot of in between as Liam gives Alex a hard time like he did to Liam. You can't help but love this book. I just felt he deserved a bit more to his story. All in all though I seriously loved it.

Loved this read!!! Alex was always so mysterious and evaded all talk of his past and personal life in the previous novels of the series but with this book focusing on him, a lot of information came out and really shed some light on who he was as a soldier and a man.

Sabrina truly earned the rights to “girl who got away”! She was someone Alex cared for but couldn’t have and then she appeared on his door step needing his protection. Sparks were flying from the moment they laid eyes on each other again for the first time in years!!!

I loved Alex’s soft and protective side for his “Kitten”. He cared so deeply for her and had never stopped. She reciprocated those feelings ten fold. They were perfect for each other!

All the drama and suspense that took place in this read kept me glued to the book, waiting to see what would come next! Subzero had just the right amount of shock value and uncertainty.

The epilogue was sweet and wrapped up the series nicely!!!!

In Subzero we finally get Alex’s story. I’ve adored him since book one and have been excited to see him get his happy like his best friends Liam and Bellamy.

Alex is a wonderful character. He’s not only protective and gorgeous, but he’s also funny and charming. Sabrina was perfect for him. She’s beautiful and snarky and had no problem standing up to the bossy man Alex could be. I thought it worked out well that Alex and Sabrina had met in the past and were basically torn apart. You could feel their tension being around each other again, and at the same time you could feel the love that still existed and the need they felt for each other.

This has been such a great series and I hate that it’s supposed to be over. I’ll miss these characters and hope that maybe we’ll get a novella or another book to allow us to catch up with Alex and Sabrina as well as Liam and Bellamy.

Well hello there Alex!

One thing Cambria Hebert dominates is creating lovable intriguing characters. Even when they are created as supporting characters in different books you fall in love and they demand their own story. Alex is a prime example of this.

You fell in love with Alex as the best friend in the beginning of the series as we focused on Liam and Bellamy and now it's his time to shine. I adored the story of Alex and Sabrina. It is a second chance romance and a perfect balance to the the first three books in the series. We get to see the part of Alex that was hidden and it cements him even deeper in my heart.

I will be headed into an immediate re-read of the entire series so I can wallow a bit more in the feels. The series is complete so I suggest one-clicking away and settling in with a hot cup of coffee.

Alex and Sabrina perfect Match!!

Cambria Hebert never disappoint! Alex and Brina are perfect for each other.

Subzero brings us Alex so much needed story. Alex is Liam's best friend and brother. They are an amazing pair just like Rom and B. I'm part of the group that was waiting for his story because he was an intriguing mistery.

Here we don't only understand where he comes from, what he lived before but also we see him interacting with Liam and Bells and falling in love. Sabrina is a tough cookie, raised by her military brother, but at the same time she's sweet and love our Alex very much.

This book is funny as usual when Liam and Alex are involved but it is also very emotional. It brought tears to my eyes at times but rest assured we get an EPIC happily Ever after.

Subzero Melts

I've been a fan since #NERD! #RimmelandRomeo! Absolutely LOVED this book as much as the first one! I'm so sad to see it ending! But what about Daniel? Could you possibly do a book for him? I would so like to see that as he's the last one left. Please, if you have any mercy... write Daniel's story! Your book are always such a pleasure to read. Love, angst, suspense, heartache, and that overwhelming feeling of protective, smug alpha male you just wanna throttle sometimes! With a heroine that's fun, smart, witty, and just as protective. It's a combo that works great! Your rockin it! Hope everything gets closer to normal for you and your community soon!

Worth the wait!

Loved it!, Love Alex even more and I want to go to bear paw resort for hot cocoa and cider.
Thank you Cambria for writting Alex's story. I loved him from the beginning and couldn't wait to find out his story. I loved the twists in this one but I wont say more on that as wouldnt want to spoil it for readers.

I wholeheartedly recommended this book to everyone although if you are a new reader to this series I would say to start at book 1. This could be read as a standalone as books 1-3 are based on Liam & Bellamy but reading those first gives you more depth to Alex's character.

This is a must read for any Cambria fan

Cambria’s stories have always played out like movies in my head, and Subzero is no different. Her characters are so real and just burrow right into you head and heart. Alex has been an amazing character since his introduction in Avalanche, and I couldn’t wait to get inside his head. Sabrina is a perfect match for him with her headstrong attitude. She is no one’s victim, and fights anyone who tells her what to do.

This is a must read for any Cambria fan, and if you haven’t read any of her books before...what are you waiting for? Don’t hesitate to jump into this amazing, suspenseful series.

Finally a book about Alex (Liam Mattison Best Friend) was super excited we were going to find out what made Alex tick. He was strong, caring , super protective of Bellamy and Charlie and Liam in Avalanche, Blizzard and Frostbite I didn't doubt the same. With the back story of Alex and Sabrina it turned out being more about her them him. His character became less likable in my eyes he went from strong and protective to growly and weak. Still a great book but expected more of him. Didn't really care for Sabrina but did like the introduction of Alex's parents and Sabrina's brother and of course Shaw.

Bittersweet Endings

I have been waiting for Alex’s book since we first met him in Avalanche. He is definitely the total package; loyal, protective, funny, caring, sexy and mysterious. Sabrina was a strong heroine that could hold her own against Alex. I’m so glad to see him get his forever. I also loved catching up with Liam and Bellamy. Those two are definitely couple goals. I loved this book and am feeling bittersweet about it ending, as I love the BearPaw series and am sad to see it end.

Wow!

*slight spoiler alert*
Holy cannoli! Hey, I had to make up a phrase in case Shaw happened to see. 😜 Seriously, though...wow! I loved Alex and Sabrina so much. This book was a lot darker than anything else I've read of Cambria's, and I think that's why I loved it so much. I also liked that the conflict was external rather than between the couple. That's rare in a romance novel, but I've always liked those stories better. The ones where the couple faces anything that happens to them together and becomes stronger for it.

I loved this book, I actually liked it a bit more than the 3 previous reads in this series. Alex was always this laid back dude, so to delve into this more serious Ice persona I love it. We learn so much more about what Alex went through while he was in the military and how that changed him as a person. So Intense. Sabrina was just his perfect match, she did not let him railroad her, she gave as good as she got, and just refused, refused to give up on her feelings on Alex. It was suspenseful, but still sweet, and I loved going on their love journey with them.

Alex is the best

I was so happy with this finale to Bear Paw. While
I am grated on my nerves with his high-handedness, Alex was fantastic. He definitely tried to take charge but knew from his military experiences that you can’t control it all.

The second chance romance angst went on longer than I expected, but I was glad for it. I didn’t want an easy fix. Both Alex and Brina showed their pain and depth. Wish I could have another helping of these two.

Amazing!!

Subzero was perfect!!

Alex and Sabrina were perfect. I've loved Alex from the very first pages where we were introduced to him. He's loyal, funny, charming and an overall great person. You can't help loving him.

Catching up with Liam & Bellamy was great and I'm sad that Bear Paw is over but it doesn't hurt to hope for more. Maybe just maybe Daniel will beg her for a story. (Hint Hint)
