Sweetwater Creek, 1876 Only wisps of smoke and buzzards engorged on human flesh remain after Comanche warriors attack a stage relay station in the Texas Panhandle. Leading a company of untested recruits to an outpost on Sweetwater Creek, Major Marcus Cavanaugh finds the gruesome evidence and realizes he has a full-scale Indian uprising on his hands. With stagecoaches, homesteaders, and cattle drovers crossing the Panhandle for Arizona Territory and the Kansas railheads, hundreds of lives are still at stake. But before Cavanaugh can whip his troops into shape, a wagon train rolls straight into a Comanche ambush. Ready or not, Cavanaugh is forced to head his men into the brutal hell of an all-out... COMANCHE WAR.
Robert Vaughan is an American writer. He has also written a series of contemporary and historical romance novels under several pseudonyms including "Paula Moore" and "Paula Fairman". His father served in the military and Robert followed him in the 1950s, entering army aviation. He served until the Vietnam War and won numerous medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal with several oak-leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal, and several other medals. His early books reflected his military background: the first novel was about the US Army along the DMZ in Korea, followed by a trilogy set in Vietnam. There are more than 9 million of his books in print under various names. He was inducted into the Writers’ Hall of Fame in 1998.
This is my third book from Robert Vaughan. In this one the Calvary is up against the last remnants of the Comanche. The Comanche are the cat and the Calvary is the mouse. Only this time the mouse is trying to catch the cat. The one thing that I liked in this story was the daily monotony of the soldiers on the frontier. It is not all fun and games for the soldiers: it drill and more drill with little to break up the daily routine. Then there is the selling of guns to the Comanches by men, who only want to make fast and easy money. As to reading this book was fast paced from beginning to end. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
An RV Arrow and Saber Western/Calvary/Indians/Illegal Rifles/Murder
RV has penned the (3rd) Novel in the Arrow and Saber seried. In the third novel out Calvary leader has been promoted to Major and has been assigned to an Army Way Station in Comanche Territory. The Comanches are constantly residing and the Major and his beleaguered forces have been decimated. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Enjoyed the novel, plenty of action and didn't Drag on to much with affairs of the heart. May try another r. Vaughan novel soon to see if it has as good an action story.
Plenty of blood, guts, and torture. Did not like the introduction off women in the story. Also, again, the grammar errors are disruptive. Cavanaugh seems to be unbelievably blessed in escape.
This story was full of blood and gore. If not to your liking don't go there. Indian and cavalry battles were not like on T. V. , very bloody and fierce.
Another masterpiece written by an author who knows how the old West was like and share it with the reader I am now waiting to read the next book in the series
