Five friends travel west to find love, what they don’t expect is for the storm of the century to hit Angel Creek at same time. Snowbound with new husbands can pose quite an interesting turn of events.
After the Civil War, Charleston, SC is left devoid of eligible men. Ruby Henderson and four of her closest friends decide to travel west as mail order brides to find love. Upon arriving, she instantly regrets the rash decision. Especially upon meeting her husband to be who looks more like an outlaw, than a doctor.
Trevor Collins decides to put his distrust of women aside and marry. His new bride is more beautiful then he could have imagined, which makes him wonder about her true motivation for coming west. Will his wish to be a good family man win when the ugliness of his past rears its ugly head?
Ruby by Hildie McQueen Angel Creek Christmas Brides book 3. Historical romance. Can be read as a stand-alone. Clean. Ruby travels west to be a mail-order bride to Trevor, the local doctor. Their relationship gets a bit bumpy to begin with as expected since they basically get of the train and stand in front of a preacher. Trevor is called to doctor a soldier camp where Ruby pitches in with cleaning, cooking and nursing. The two learn to respect each other. A couple of surprising twists add depth to their character and lead to a sweet conclusion.
This is a sweet book. Ruby is a strong women who leaves everything she knows to marry a man out west. Their marriage gets off to a bit of a rocky start. Trevor has some issues with trust.
I enjoyed this book. I loved Ruby. She's strong. Even though she was used to some comforts when she lived in South Carolina, she's willing to learn and helps her husband with his patients.
This book is part of a series, but I feel the book can be read as a stand alone.
"Ruby" by Hildie McQueen is book three in the "Angel Creek Christmas Bride" series that is written by multiple authors. This was my first time reading a book with the topic of being a mail order bride. It was a very interesting read, and I liked reading Ruby's story. I really enjoy Hildie's writing style and the way she can tell a story. I'm not much of a historical reader, but Hildie is one of the few authors who makes historicals readable for me. I haven't read any other books in this series, but I will definitely check them out.
This story is part of series by different authors but I was able to enjoy this story as a stand alone. I can’t image how hard it would be to set off for a new life like Ruby. I like how you learn more about both of their pasts as the story unfolds. There is some adventure and misunderstandings on the road to a future. #CMCon24
This is an OK Western romance, with mostly likable characters. It is a sweet romance, and does not contain sex scenes. There were a few editing problems, and I thought the story was a bit too unrealistic.
I did get a little irritated with Trevor and Ruby a few times, because most of their problems were caused by a lack of communication. If they had just taken the time to talk to each other, most of their issues could have been avoided. It always bothers me when a couple has problems just because they don't talk -- seems to me like authors do that just to add unnecessary angst.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Generally Trevor is a really nice guy, but when his distrust of women rears it's head, and is directed venomously at Ruby, I could have happily shot him! Boy does he get it wrong and it almost costs him everything! Ruby is unsure what to make of her new life and whilst she is attracted to Trevor she finds the harsh weather and the long hours alone difficult and depressing...until they head to the camp, here at the infirmary she can be useful and she knows what needs to be done and gets immediate results, which shows her husband a very different side of her. But when the past comes calling she is unsure what to do...and one wrong decision brings everything crashing down around her. I love this series, whilst the five friends have take the same journey together, their husbands and marriages are all very different, with challenges, misunderstandings, frustrations but ultimately love and friendships that will never be broken. A great series available on Kindle Unlimited.
I listened to this one on audio. I did like the narrator. With this audiobook publisher, there tends to be a random sound or sets of sounds. It's hard to describe. It's not at the end of a chapter but in a chapter. Anyway. It was ok, a tiny annoying, but eh. ANYWAY. I am loving this series. I like first of all, that they all have the same cover, just with the title different. I do wish the number in the series was on it, but that is ok as well. I am just nitpicking. I love how each book starts out with the grandkids asking the grandma for their story. I myself loved listening to Grandma's stories at Christmas time. I really enjoyed this story. I thought the characters in this book were great as well. I really liked how the character of Ruby evolved. Looking forward to more in the series. Short and sweet.
A sweet story told as a remembrance of how she and her husband met and the start of their marriage. Trevor finds it hard to trust and is a bit of a perfectionist. Ruby is trying to find her place and struggles as this is different from the life she left . Her strength starts to come through and is both a benefit as well as cause for misunderstanding. A HE A finished the story. My only issue is that the epilogue is a little short.
It is the holiday season and here come the wonderful Christmas books. Ruby is one of five books in the series. I enjoy this author's writing so was eager to see what this story was about. A Mail Order Bride heads west after the Civil War and makes a new life for herself. Ruby "finds herself" in Angel Creek as she marries the local young doctor. It's a sweet story-line and can be enjoyed by anyone.
Ruby was one of the five mail order brides coming to Angel FCreek. She was from a well to do family in Charleston. Trevor was the town doctor and was raised in an orphanage with no apparent family. They were an unlikely pair. Will they find the love and happiness that they both desire so much? How will enjoy finding out as you read this delightful story. It was so much fun reading this book.
This story and the others in the series are all very entertaining and heartwarming. Five women taking on a new life as mail order brides to unknown men. The mysteries and getting to know each other develops into exciting read. I highly recommend this story and the others in this series.
Ruby was a wonderful wonderful book. I enjoyed Ruby and Trevor’s story immensely. I always know when I open a Hildie McQueen book I am in for a entertaining read. My only complaint of this book was I didn’t want it to end for I wanted to know so much more about Ruby and Trevor’s life together. But all in all a lovely quick read. A standing ovation for you Hildie McQueen
This was another great story about the five friends traveling to Montana to marry. Ruby was marrying the doctor of Angel Creek. A storm was coming and they had to hurry with the marrying of the five couples. Trevor and Ruby had some difficult times but it was a worthy story. You will enjoy this
Ruby joins her 4 friends to travel to Montana to find a loving husband. Her experience nursing in the war helped her doctor husband. She finds everything very different in Montana but works hard to learn new skills needed to survive in the small town. Enjoyed reading this story. Interesting.
I thought this was a sweet story and pretty funny in parts as well. Her irritated and him perplexed as to why kept me smiling the entire book. I think the personalities were well done, but chemistry lacking. Still recommend and anxious for Sarah & Anna to tell their stories...also, really hope that Daniel gets a love story in the future as well.
This is a very touching story, I would however like to have read a little more details about their relationship. But still a sweet story none the less and I would recommend it as well as the rest of the series I have read so far.
A southern belle who still has all of her family decided to move west with her friends as mail order brides. She found out how important it is to share things with her new husband as he learns to not jump to conclusions and trust in his wife.
I've been enjoying reading this story, Ruby, one of five women who have signed up as Mail Order Brides. The women all traveled to the early west after the war left very few young men that were desirable to wed. A touch and go tale of life.
A lovely mail order bride romance with endearing characters and a heartfelt plot. I enjoyed the many twists this novella took. Hildie McQueen always writes an entertaining tale. Happy reading!
This book is so moving, emotional book. There are so many situations that arise that are not expected but make the book perfect. Such a truly heartwarming tale. 💕💕💕
Mail order bride and difficulties of settling into married life with a stranger. Plus other twists that occur. Jealousy and mistrust cause some problems. Well done.
Loved this book, the characters and the story are wonderful. Highly recommend this book and this series! Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I loved this book. It was just what I needed to read about hope, taking chances, and forging a new life together. I will be reading more about the brides from Angel Creek.
