The Jerk Duet #1

The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks

Rate this book
Rule number one: don't fall for jerks.
Rule number two: don't fall for your best friend's brother.
Oops. Too late.

I’m Luciana Wright.
Everyone calls me Lucky, but when it comes to love, I’m anything but.

I have a long history of dating the wrong men.

You know the ones I’m talking about.
The beautiful, charming guys who are quite literally too good to be true.
The ones who are impulsive in love and prefer short flings over long-term relationships.

I’m talking about the jerks.

The guys who taste so good, but are so very bad.

After going through the most ridiculous breakup in the history of breakups, I thought I’d learned my lesson. I officially put myself into jerk rehab and committed to changing my ways.

But, let’s be real here, love is never that easy.

Especially when an arrogant, charming, he-devil of a sexy alpha man gets involved.

Aussie accent.
Tanned skin.
Muscular, surfer bod.
Gorgeous brown eyes.
And the kind of sexy smile that brings women to their knees.

Oh, did I mention that he’s also my best friend’s brother?

Yeah. This story, my story, it’s a real doozy you guys.

The day I stopped falling for jerks, I met Oliver Arsen—the biggest jerk of all.

➳The first part of a romance novel that includes two individuals whom are different in every way, but gets the excitement going with their witty banter...

➳Soooooo... This book actually took me a while to get into... Like seriously, I usually finish a book in two-three days, and this book took me a week to finish. And the reason is because it was honestly really slow. I am not the biggest fan of angsty romances, but there are some that I truly do enjoy. This one however, did not go well with my palette of trying to thoroughly enjoy the story plot. What DID convince me were the characters. There is no denying that their is chemistry and banter one that will draw you to the page.

➳I am keeping this review nice and sweet because I do not want to give anything away, and also because though I wasn't a true committed fan of the whole story, I was however taken a back at how enthralled I was with how Max Monroe described their characters. Phase two of this duet story is coming soon, and my hands are itching for it! Thank you SBPR for sending me a copy of this beauty, I am excited for the next book!

Before you start reading my review... please be aware that I might be going on a bit of a rant at the end. The book was still a 4.9-Star-Read for me ... but there are a few tiny little BUTs for me too. So if you're scared of that - just don't read the end of my review ☺

description

description

Eeeep - a new Max Monroe Rom-Com Duet! YES!!!

description

Luciana - Lucky - just broke up with her latest idiot of a boyfriend. It all started as a we'll-stay-friends kind of break up, but it ended rather publicly in Yankees Stadium. LOL.

And now - after saying NO to any kind of dating, especially jerks, for the next 200 years - she meets him: Hot aussie surfer boy Ollie. Brother of her best friend and colleague Allie.

Allie organized for Lucky to travel with the surfing championship crew to write a bunch of articles about the whole thing.

Ollie might be the hottest guy she's ever met, but he might also be the biggest jerk of all. But the heart wants what the heart wants... or rather the body and the reproductive organs want what they want. And mayyybe he's not really the jerk she thought he was .... ?

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN!!!

description

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!

SUCH A HILARIOUS & ADORABLE STORY!

This is not a normal book book. Lucky is writing/reading it as a podcast. Which is really funny!

I adored the book from the first page all the way through the end ... and I NEEEEED book #2 asap - it will be here in only one week - I might survive until then.☺

Ollie is such a cocky and adorable guy, but they kind of started on the wrong foot - they started arguing the minute they first met at the airport. Adorable!

But of course we also see those sparks flying - it just takes them a little while to notice. Well, Ollie might notice it right away - we'll get to hear about that in the 2nd book I guess. But Lucky is desperately clinging to the 'hope' that he's a jerk and that she can't fall for him. Too cute.

I really adored this book. It was so sweet and funny and sunny and oceany and travely - we go to all these amazing places for the surfing championships. Beautiful!

↓↓↓ RANT ↓↓↓

The only things I didn't like about the book ...

(please don't hate me for my upcoming complaints - I really loved the book, but some things just bothered me tiny bit! ☺)

Ollie is 37 years old. That's a bit old in my opinion. He could be a rich retired surfer at age ??? 30 maybe, or 32? 37 is a bit old for Lucky and for the young vibe he has going :/

And another thing. The word PRIOR. I know the word and I'm okay with it if it's used in a book. But it was used in here EIGHT times and for those situation where everybody else would just use BEFORE or AGO. I hate prior. I know I'm weird. Very weird with some things in books. And prior is one of those things. Why use it? I've come across that word in books in the last few months a lot. No idea why? Is it some kind of thing in the US at the moment? Like I MEAN last year? I don't get it. I just don't like it - but that's just me. ☺ (edit: I just finished the latest Nicholas Sparks book and it was in there a lot too!???)

And then ... so sorry for my upcoming rant. And please forgive me MM and Florian! It's just my personal taste!
THE COVER!

I like the one for the 2nd book. It's not really my Lucky either - the model looks like a little fairy - but at least she's got reddish hair.

But the guy on this cover? What is that? That ear ring??? OMG. That's just horrible. HORRIBLE! He looks like he wants to audition for a George Michael Cover Band. (No offense George. RIP.)

That cover doesn't work for me at all!

And even if I could overlook the ear ring and the rest of his face and hair and make-up - he doesn't look at all like an australian surfer boy! I mean, I don't need the longish blond curls or a natural tan. But he should at least look a little bit surfish. Maybe lose the shirt or .. no idea. His instagram even has some surfish pics - even though he's still not my type, but still. But this cover? Nope! Sorry.

I STILL LOOOVED THE STORY. My Ollie just looks completely different.
Maybe like these ↓ - a cover without a head would've been soo much better than the ear ring one!

description

Even though I just complained a lot .... here's my review minimized into one paragraph:

THE DAY I STOPPED FALLING FOR JERKS was such an adorable & funny Journalist-Travel-Surfing-Podcast-Romance! I loved it! Hurry to your nearest amazon - Ollie will be sold out in no time!!!

Wow. Wow. WOW!
This book is simply AMAZING. It goes straight to the top 3 of the best books I´ve read this year. I couldn´t put it down. The execution of this book is just brilliant, so different from all the others I´ve read before and my oh my did I love it! So unique. It´s just a gem, it stands out in the sea of books I´ve read so far (and I´ve read about 260 books this year so far).
I can´t wait for the second part of this duet. I´ll be counting the hours until I can get my hands on it. The 25th can´t come soon enough.

So... I didn't realize this ends on a cliffhanger because apparently I can read like a woman starved for words, but I can't be bothered to see that it clearly says in the title that this is a DUET.

description

I really, really try to avoid these types of situations. Duets... trilogies... I'll generally make every attempt to navigate away from them.

description

However, I've had this sitting on my Kindle for so long that I couldn't even remember what the story was about... so I just clicked on it and jumped straight in. And, besides the cliffy... I was not disappointed.

The format of this being like reading a transcript from a podcast was new to me and I had mixed feelings about that. Moments when Lucky was describing intimate details and encounters with Ollie had me thinking, 'Well, I bet he appreciates THAT being made public without his consent!'

description

... obviously, I know I'm reading a book, folks... but my point is, clearly, the format had me feeling like our h was really communicating with me through her podcast and THAT speaks volumes. I bet this would be really great to listen to on audiobook. Hmmm....

One of the BEST reads of the year!

Told via a podcast ( a brilliant idea and will make this a hit on Audible) The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks is sheer book perfection in my eyes. All the right ingredients for my favorite kind of read. Funny, snarky, sexy, fast-paced, and filled with real emotions.

Lucky Wright is very unlucky when it comes to love. She works as a writer for an online magazine, not un-similar to Buzzfeed. Lucky tells us all about her work consisting of two writing jobs. One, a three month trip following a surf competition and covering it via the eyes of a novice. Second, Lucky has decided to review and recount her past dating mistakes by writing letters to all her ex-boyfriends. It turns out to be a great way to figure out her past dating mistakes as well as understand why things turned out the way that they did with each.

Along with this amazing discovery in self-assessment, Lucky is trying very hard not to fall for a new jerk… this is where things get complicated.

The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks is book one of a duet written by Max Monroe. It’s my first read by this author and it certainly won't be my last. I love the writing style, humor, and heart of The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks. I simply can not wait for more! (Book #2 coming October 25th)

I did the as an audiobook so the fact that the story is told as if it were a podcast really worked out well.

As always this author duo created an interesting storyline that was humorously sarcastic and sexy.

Lucky Wright is unlucky in love. She’s a writer for an online magazine and has a podcast. She is sent on a three month trip following a surf competition and while she is on that trip she is writing letters to all of her ex-boyfriends, without divulging their names, and recounting past mistakes. She’s hoping this will help her in future endeavors, since she has a bad habit for falling in love with jerks.

I love a book that has you traveling around to fun exotic places and describes them so you feel as if you are there. This is a duet & I will be going onto the next book in a few days.

Before I get into this review, I want to shoutout my dear friend Ari because she raved this book to me and I know I'll enjoy this duet.

Lucky Wright is unlucky in the love department. She had a lot of relationships and majority of the guys she dated are jerks. The jerkiest of them all is her best friend's brother, Ollie Arsen. She tells her story via podcast which is interesting as it's one of the social media platforms emerging lately.

I enjoyed the story a lot because Lucky is witty, energetic and has a great sense of humor. I will be tuning into her podcast as well because I find her hilarious. Due to her recent breakup, she needs to unwind. She travels in Australia to cover a story regarding a surfing competition in which she has zero knowledge on it. She also vows to stay away from wrong men but Ollie comes in the picture. Will she be able to resist him? The guy is charming and there's so much angst between them. Like they're both throwing fireworks. The sweet moments here are cute and I love Lucky's letters to her exes. She does learn from her previous relationships. The last chapters gave me a heartache. Damn it.

It's a cliffhanger so make sure you have the second book at hand. You'll need it ASAP.

Don't fall in love. Fall off a fucking bridge. It probably hurts less.

Yessss a new duet from Max Monroe.

Firstly, I don't usually much look at the covers, however this one looks like it should be the cover of a WHAM! Album (sorry Max and Monroe, but he gives off serious George Michael vibes)

I liked the writing style of this book - in the style of transcripts from a podcast.

There were a couple of things though that we were a bit ugh for me. Firstly, Ollie's age. It is not that him being 37 was a huge age difference between himself and Lucky - that doesn't bother me at all in any books. It was that to me he acted a lot, lot younger. There is no way that I felt that he was nearing 40. Also, the cover model just did not give off the Ollie vibe either.

Sparks fly between Ollie and Lucky - though not always the sexual kind. The banter between them made me laugh, made me frustrated, made me want this pair to fight it out - in or out of bed. Gah, I just love them so much, even when they are frustrating the crap out of me.

I absolutely devoured this book. It is full of typical Max Monroe humour. And being an Aussie myself, I loved that they got the Aussie slang right - thank you for that! And thank you for not having any Crocodile Dundee or Steve Irwin-isms thrown in just to prove how Aussie he is.

Lucky is very relatable. We have all gone through crappy break ups and given them a post mortem, trying to figure out what went wrong.

Now, what the heck was it with that ending! Gah! How could you do that to me, Max Monroe? How can you make me wait for Ollie's side of the story?

I need it. Right. This. Minute!

“I still couldn’t believe I’d kissed him, you guys! Just straight up, placed my lips to his, slipped my tongue into his mouth, flipping kissed him. Apparently, I needed Jesus. And a nap. And quite possibly a lobotomy.”

OMG! Can I just tell you that every time the ladies of Max Monroe grace us with a new book, I get so damn giddy! I know that I’m about to be incredibly entertained! Their latest, The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks, is book one in the brand new Jerk Duet and it was INCREDIBLE! Incredibly hilarious! Incredibly sexy! Incredibly…just EVERYTHING! I adore these characters! Luciana, OMG, she is my spirit animal. I loved her sass, her attitude, her confidence. The way she handled herself in certain situations…priceless!

This first book was told in Luciana’s POV via podcast format (you’ll understand what I mean once you dive in) which was so different and such an original idea. Oliver “Ollie” Arsen, our hero, is a little bit low key in book one, but I know that I’m going to fall instantly in love when he gets his shot to tell his side of the story in book two. You guys! These two characters had such incredible chemistry and banter. I always expect that I’m going to fall over laughing when I read a Max Monroe romance, but this was something else. I had an absolute BLAST! I didn’t want it to end and I’m so glad that the second book comes out soon so we don’t have to wait long for Ollie’s POV!

***5 ‘Accident’ Stars***

Addicting and Honest.

That pretty much sums up this one. I was hooked from the start and I will admit that it was a 50/50 split between loving the way the story was being told and finding Lucky to be absolutely charming and real. This book had everything. It was funny, sweet, smexy, swoon worthy and even heartbreaking, but it was real and once I dove in, putting it down wasn’t an option and when the end came I was quite unhappy because I needed more - and thank the powers that be aka the authors, I’ll be getting that more sooner rather than later!

I adored Lucky. This woman has moxie. She’s sassy, sweet and totally owns herself. Some of her choices did drive me a little batshitcrazy, but I loved her honesty, especially when it came to self reflection.

Ollie. This man. Yes, I adored him - even when he was being a “jerk” because he is the kind of jerk that has a good heart. He’s charming, sweet, cocky and simply an all around good man.

Lucky and Ollie’s journey is a slow burn one and it totally worked for me on every level, especially with how the telling of their story was done *BSEG* The chemistry between them was there from the start, even if it was a tinsy bit antagonistic, but I loved how their relationship progressed and those little things that brought them closer. And as for that roadblock in their relationship? Well, I see both sides of the story and am firmly on #TeamLuckyAndOllie because they are made for each other (and because I can *wink*)

This is my first read by the writing duo known as Max Monroe and I’m sitting here wondering why I haven’t picked up a book by them before? Well, ok, I KNOW why but still. But what finally had me taking the leap was the title. I simply could not pass this one by and it is all due to the title and I’m very happy I took the plunge. The writing was seamless and engaging and i thoroughly enjoyed the first person POV as well as HOW the story was told. The characters were all very well written, Jordy and Allie are easily my favs. And as for that ending? Alls I can say is I cannot wait to get my hands on The Day The Jerk Started Falling!

5+ JERK WORTHY CROWNS

OMG!!! Max Monroe what are you doing to me?? This book. It was everything I didn’t know I needed. It was fun and sweet, and I fell hard. I fell for the Jerk. I fell for Lucky. I fell HARD for this breath of fresh air romance. It is every single thing I needed.

Lucky is such a great heroine because readers will see themselves in her. Telling this story as a podcast allows readers to really connect with her. We live her story, and fall in love with Ollie along with her. We learn through introspective story and her letters. We see a woman who is looking for love, meeting the wrong guys, and maybe finally starting to realized like life, love isn’t so clear cut, so black and white.

Ollie, like most Max Monroe heroes, has an irresistible charm. Readers will be swept away by this man’a compassion. His looks don’t hurt (seriously, check that cover out), but he is so much more than that. Does Ollie make mistakes? Sure, but so does Lucky. I know that I’m excited to get his side of the story.

One of the reasons I’m ENAMORED with this story is the way these authors chose to tell it. A FRAME STORY. Seriously?? Max Monroe. My English heart adores everything about this choice. I’ve NEVER read an romance novel that was utilized this literary device. It is brilliant. It connected me with the characters. It forces me to live their story, to feel their evolution from friendly antagonists to more and to have my heart shatter with the fall. It left me dying for Ollie’s podcast. I need them to get their HEA, like I need air.

This story is 100% PHENOMENAL. It isn’t Uber sexy. It isn’t filled with hot alphas and sassy heroines. It’s real and reflective and sweet and fun. It is filled with characters who are relatable and love-able. It is a story that stands on merit alone. I didn’t need all the aforementioned things. Lucky and Ollie are enough on their own. This story is a must read.

4.5 Little Fire stars

The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks is my very first Max Monroe book, and I’m impressed! The way this book was written was so refreshing and unique and just fun. Luciana Wright (aka Lucky), the story’s heroine, is narrating her story and epic encounters through a podcast. I mean, how freaking cool is that? I’ve read books with bouts of text messages or emails, but a podcast? That’s something completely new to me and I absolutely dig it!

I, Lucky Wright, am a jerk addict. And because of that, I’ve put myself in jerk rehab.

And don’t even get me started with the humor. I couldn’t tell you how many times I bursted out with snorts and giggles the entire time I was reading this, it’s ridiculous. Max Monroe has the kind of humor that sneaks up to you like a damn ninja. It’s like everything’s going fine and dandy, and you’re so engrossed with what’s going on, then BAM! Next thing you know you’re about to blow with laughter.

Don’t fall in love. Fall off a fucking bridge. It probably hurts less.

Oliver Arsen (aka Ollie) and Lucky’s tale is one that will definitely have you stuck on the pages of this book. It’s funny, it’s alluring, it’s genius—hell, it’s just too good! I’m still reeling from Lucky’s podcast and side of the story, but I’m already DYING for Ollie’s POV! I NEED inside that man’s head so badly, it’s driving me crazy!

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

Max Monroe have done it again. I DEVOURED this book. Jesus christ it was such a good read.

I did have a couple of things I didn't like/agree with/feel that they fit with the story, so I'll get those out of the way first.

- Ollie's age - hes 37 in this story, which makes a huge age gap to Lucky (not a huge deal I know), but the character himself didn't feel or sound to me like he was that age. I read him as a lot younger and alot closer to Lucky's age of 27.

- The cover model - he does not at all look like the Ollie I pictured in my head as I was reading this. Which also lends to my age point. He looks way too young. Especially as an Aussie myself, this cover model is not at all how I picture our typical beach bum surfers.

NOW, moving away from all of that I really truly did love this book and when I finished it all I could think was that I damned well need more, and I CANNOT WAIT to hear Ollie's side of this story. Particularly as I think Lucky didn't handle things too well at the end of the story. I totally understand why she acted the way she did, hell I would've jumped to the same conclusions, but she needed to not bury her head in the sand, and confront the issue head on.

Now, this book has a tonne of typical Max Monroe humour in it - from the chapter podcast headings, to the banter and jokes between the characters. I was legit sitting here and grinning like a lunatic at my kindle quite often. *sorry, not sorry, to those around me ;-)

One of the other things that I really and truly loved, was the expressions and slang written in for Ollie. He's an Australian main character, and being an Aussie myself, let me tell you, that we cringe a hell of a lot of the time when it comes to movies or books who get the portrayal of our characters or accents wrong. But Max Monroe have done extremely well with this, and because I'm Aussie, when I read books, I usually read them in our accent, because hey, thats who I am, but when I was reading Ollie, I well and truly felt comfortable, or just, like it was so familiar, because of how they have written him in. I don't even know if that makes sense, but I do know that I felt he was written extremely well. And can I just say, the comment about the thongs at the start? Bahaha, so true, so true!

Anywho, enough of me carrying on about how well he was portrayed accent wise. As for Ollie's personality, I think for the most part I really liked him. Sure, sometimes he definitely came across as a jerk, oh hell yes, but other times it was just him and his sense of humour. (Now, to me, that can again be a very normal Aussie thing, but not sure if this was intentional on Max Monroe's part or not).

As we got to know Ollie more, damned if I wasn't falling right along with Lucky, because hell. What a charmer. I really and truly cannot wait to read his part of this story. I don't think it's going to be what we expect, and I think we're going to fall even more in love with him.

Now, as for Lucky, she was quite the funny female lead. She was relatable. And you know how important this can be for characters in a novel. Her podcast series was quirky as hell, and there are a tonne of quotes which I'm sure others will be noting in their reviews. I for one, was too busy devouring the hell out of this book to note any of them down. She also has some great ideas for Scoop and the letters for one, are awesome.

She's also not what she appears to be from first glance. The old saying of not judging a book by its cover. She has reasons (not so vain), for why she dresses the way she does, and I think they're really sweet. You'll know when you read this what I'm talking about.

Lucky and Ollie together make a really cute and easy couple, however there definitely needs to be more communication, and I'm intrigued to see how this plays out in the next part of this duet, as I feel that Ollie will be chasing that.

I loved experiencing some of the things these two did together, and I also enjoyed the fact that this wasn't solely focused on sex scenes and chemistry in that sense. I mean, sure there is a tonne of chemistry between them, but the little things, such as swimming (again, you will understand when you read this), were what made this for me.

I really need the next book, because this is one story I can't wait to finish out and see what happens with these two. Knowing Max Monroe, they'll throw us for a loop, and I can't wait for the ride!

I loved everything about The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks by Max Monroe. The format and writing was impeccable and original and I devoured it as quickly as I could. This is the second book I have read by this writing duo and all I want to do is go back and read everything they have ever written!

In this book, we meet Luciana Wright, Lucky, who feels unlucky in love. And boy does she have every reason too! I loved, laughed and cringed with every story she shared about the jerks she has dated to-date. I loved her letters and the podcast so freaking much! Lucky was in some ways very strong and determined, but in others, very vulnerable. She wanted to make good choices, but the heart wants what it wants.

Oliver Arsen was an enigma. When they first met, let’s just say first impressions were not great. But as the story continues, we see different sides of Ollie. He is a determined, cocky and arrogant man, but he could also be sweet, caring and patient as well.

I absolutely devoured Lucky and Ollie’s story. I loved their banter, their interactions and all the chemistry they had, even as Lucky attempted to avoid what she was feeling for him. Though a part of me really wishes we would have some of his point of view in this first book, I totally get what the authors tried to do and loved it.

One of the things I really loved about The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks by Max Monroe was though this was a romance, it was Luckys’ story. I laughed, but I also felt everything Lucky was trying to convey about her journey. Now I am literally sitting here counting down the minutes (seconds), until I get the next book. I need to know what happens and get Ollie’s point of view this time.

Happy reading!

The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks is the charming best friend’s brother / not-quite-enemies-turned-lovers tale of unlucky Lucky and free spirit Ollie. As the saying goes, opposites attract and you couldn’t find two more opposites than Lucky and Ollie. After one too many relationship disasters Lucky has made a promise to herself that she’ll no longer fall for the jerks. But along comes Ollie, who may just be the biggest jerk of them all, and Lucky finds herself doing exactly what she said she wouldn’t...falling, and falling hard.

I really enjoyed this book. I got a kick out of the way the story was told, through Lucy’s podcast retelling. It was a unique and different take, as we looked back on the development and evolution of her relationship with Ollie, leading us right up to the moment everything comes to a head and we’re left wanting more!
The push and pull between Ollie and Lucky is quite delightful and made for some very entertaining moments. Their chemistry is palpable and honestly, you can’t blame Lucky for falling for this jerk- he’s swoony and sweet and quite endearing!

Even though we won’t get his point of view until the next book, I can already say I am firmly #TeamOllie. I really liked Lucky too, but there’s just something about Ollie that drew me to him. Maybe because everything was told from Lucky’s pov it made him seem a little mysterious and had me wanting to dig deeper into his story. I think there’s much more to Ollie than Lucky’s giving him credit for, and I for one can’t wait to find out what makes him tick!

I've picked Max Monroe to be my first read book of the year 2019 and I don't regret it even a bit.
The story itself was very captivating, entertaining and fast-paced. I loved how charming, chatty (sometimes secrets-spilling) and fun Lucky was and Ollie was just swoony.
But I need to admit the fact, that at the very beginning I thought this book would not be for me and I would start this year with a very low rating. The reason for it was simple; the podcast style of writing with its sighing and laughing was too distracting for me, halted my reading speed and basically annoyed the crap out of me. But around fifth chapter my brain rewired and I was flying through the story without any more hitches. To my initial surprise, I came to love this podcast-writing so much, I had to talk myself out of reading the next book in the duet. It really has to wait till evening... *sigh*

Just one question! Cursing is a no-no in podcast but describing sex in details is a go? That thought had cracked me up so hard, I had to stop reading for a minute or so.

*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book*

4.5 "Get Lucky" Stars

I'm going to do things differently with this review. I'm going to take a page out of Lucky's book, I'm pretty sure she won't mind. I'm going to write my own letter to the marvelous duo known as Max Monroe. But before I do and without spoiling anything, I want to tell you, the reader, that The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks will have you laughing until your stomach hurts. The concept in the way that this book is written and how the story is told was awesome. You will fall for Lucky and her fiery persona and especially her sass. And don't even get me started on Oliver Arsen *bites lip* he's charismatic and cocky and boy he had me smitten. This Australian surfing heartthrob had me laughing and smiling and sighing nonstop. I'm obviously leaving parts out because, duh I want you to read the book. One thing is certain though, if you feel like me after finishing the first book, you're going to need more Ollie ASAP.

This is the part where my letter to Max Monroe comes to play. Here it goes...

[cracks knuckles]

Dear Marvelous Max Monroe,
I apologize in advance. You see, I hadn't read any of your books, not until earlier this year when I finally kicked myself in the a** and read one. And honestly? I DON'T KNOW WHY IT TOOK ME THIS LONG! *face palm* I was hooked and from that point on I knew I needed ALL of your words! You bring the abundance of laughs and of course the sexiness. Your writing style is one I enjoy immensely. Your heroines are lively and refreshing and just plain badass! And your Heroes, OMFG they are definitely some of my favorite. They're not too over the top, just the right amount of cockiness. *laughs* So it's no surprise that I fell hard for The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks. You brought your signature touch of humor that had me cackling like a hyena. But not only that, but it also had an emotional aspect that I did not expect, though I craved it nonetheless. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, wanting and needing to know what would happen next. I have so many questions. And I am so ready, so ready to know how Lucky and Ollie's story will end. And I'll end this letter by saying, that I have found a new writing duo to add to my favorites list. Thank you for making me laugh. Thank you for arrogant jerks that I can't help but swoon over. Thank you for writing books I can't get enough of. Just, thank you for being the freaking badass writing duo you are!

Lots of Love,
Ness (a very happy reader)

"Nah. I'm more of a when I like what I see, I have to at least get a taste kind of guy."

And thus begins the downfall of Lucky Wright.
Okay, maybe it didn't really begin there, but we all know Lucky didn't stand a chance against the sexy Aussie, Oliver Arsen. I know I didn't stand a chance. He's all swoony and fun and charismatic. You know, all the things you want in a bloke.

Yeah, I may have picked up some Aussie lingo while reading these books. I couldn't help it. A bloke? A sheila? Come on! That's way better than guy and girl or dude and chick or what have you.

Anyway, this story is told in podcast form, which I found to be rather interesting and fun. She's talking to the reader. Directly. Fourth wall stuff there, folks. But I LOVED it. It's direct, Lucky is fun and intelligent, and a take no prisoners kind of gal. Sheila. Whatever.

I love her. I love her red hair, her knack for applying enough sunscreen to make me feel good about the bottles I use during the summer, and I love how she pushes Ollie away even when it is so very clear she wants that man.

And Ollie. Oh, I love him in this story (but the real swoons don't happen until we get his side--I devoured these books, by the way. I put this one down and picked up the next immediately) and his jealousy and his devil may care attitude. It's all written perfectly.

And then those details. The things they should have said and didn't, the moves they should have made yet resisted, the accidents that were perfectly timed.

It all came together perfectly. Because Max Monroe has this ability to spin a story, make you feel like you're there, and leave you wanting nothing beyond that HEA.

I'm not sure where this review was headed honestly. I just know the book is fantastic, but you'll want to have The Day the Jerk Started Falling already downloaded and ready to go. Because Ollie needs his chance to tell his story. Their story.

Well written story that ends with cliffhanger. I take a star off my review because waiting a month to finish is ridiculous. I will have read 20 books in between and have lost plot features.

So, if that and a storyline that is a podcast format in writing, then this is fun. Her experience with guys is nothing new but a rich exploration of her feelings about what she learned from each guy and by being fair, obtaining closure.
Her writing assignment was to follow the surfing circuit of world class surfing all over the world. It seems such a stretch to see a fashion lifestyle writer taking this assignment. She does make it work some?? I loved the world locations. Fun in sun!!
So far Ollie looks like a jerk. He gets to redeem himself in a month when book 2 comes out. Yay.

So I did not realize this was a duology and it ends in a very unsatisfying way that I am compelled to read the second book to finish their story. Ugh, curse my OCD.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I really enjoyed the story. Firstly, I'm not sure about a podcast to air out your love life like that. It's super weird to listen to especially when she was describing their sexual encounter. I don't listen to podcasts, but is that something people do?! Seems really inappropriate especially when it's a podcast through her work as a "journalist."

In terms of the characters, I'm not a fan of Lucky or Ollie. So their romance was a bit meh for me, but it had some good moments.

Oh my gosh.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

This book was addicting. I devoured it, I couldn’t stop reading as soon as I begun. Lucky’s story was captivating.

I’m sure at some point we’ve all felt a little heartbreak, I sure have and this girl, she’s felt it multiple times and you just can’t help feel sorry for her. It’s so sad and it makes your heart ache but damn, she doesn’t let it get her down she just vows to stop falling for jerks, nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

The answer to that you’ll have to find out for yourself and believe me you’re going to want to find out. The Day I Stopped Falling For Jerks is definitely a fun read, sad at certain points but fun. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book about surfers so this was a newbie for me but holy hell, I absolutely loved it. Have naked men with bods like that, heck yes.

This is my first read from Max Monroe and certainly won’t be my last. I’m super freaking excited for book two, Ollie’s story because I can already feel myself falling for this gorgeous jerk ugh. It’s fun, captivating and gives you all the feels.

I’ll start off by saying Max Monroe have me salivating for the next book. Absolutely salivating.

I’m not going to give you too much detail on the specifics of this book but what I will say is that I like their take on the story telling of this book and how it was told.

Now it did take me a minute to get into this story as it started off a bit slow for me and perhaps I also had to get used to how they choose to tell it. Almost as if your reading a transcript of a podcast which was different and maybe it took me a bit to get used to it but I thought it was unique.

So this is definitely a slow burn romance. Once things get rolling with Ollie and Lucky I found myself shipping these two hard and I found myself invested in the story. I loved the little moments with one another. And there’s a bit of angst at the end of this which I definitely felt and I absolutely loved. I’m a sucker for the cliffy so of course I’ll be patiently waiting for the next book. Thankfully it’s not that long of a wait.

I loved how this story is told. Lucky is telling her side of her many life stories on a podcast and it was like you’re really listening to her except your reading it, obviously. I really like her. There were a lot of parts that had me giggling. She doesn’t have the best track record with boyfriends and it was fun listening to her tell her many crazy stories. Then she meets Ollie. Oh, Ollie. I’m totally Team Ollie all the way. The only thing that made me feel a wee bit awkward was when they got to their one and only fun times. I felt like I was intruding on their fun. I know! I wanted to look away because she’s talking about it on her podcast and it just felt weird. I’ve never heard a juicy podcast like that before I tell you. I’m sure the audiobook would be great for these two books. But it’s fine, it’s just a me thing. My stone heart was beating pretty hard for Lucky and Ollie at the end. I can’t wait to hear his side of things in his book!

I absolutely adored both Ollie and Lucky (although at times she does try ones patience). The writing duo did an excellent job in putting this "podcast" together. Lucky steps forward with her POV in the first installment, but don't worry because Ollie gets his turn in the final installment in the duet that is available now.

Readers don't have to do much guessing to know that there are some real commitment issues between the two characters. There's also a ton of great lines of dialogue with witty bantering back and forth. I loved the slow burn that built up to a burst of flames. Tons of fun to read and I can't wait to get back to my Kindle and find out what Ollie has to say. Of course, I'm hoping these two can work their issues out for a happily ever after -- in this surfing world meets media blitz!

OMG I've got to say after finishing this book I can honestly say I've never been more happy about a chliffy in my life.

I loved the podcast approach to tell Lucky's side of the story. It was refreshing and spot on. I loved how sassy, strong and driven Lucky was. It was cute to see how she tried to stop her attraction towards Ollie but failed to do so. I could relate to her on so so many levels and I've got to say I'd probably do everything she did if I were in her shoes.

Now I only need to get my hands on the second book because I have a feeling Ollie might turn out to become my book-boyfriend no.1 - don't disappoint me Oliver 😘
