Ever wonder what it’s like to take an emotional roller coaster ride when there are no brakes? Ask Lexy. Deplorable Me by Kim Cormack takes us on a journey with the immortals Lexy, Grey, Kayn, and Zach from Clan Ankh who seem to have as much fun battling each other as they do demons, and there are plenty of demons. Lexy is Ankh’s Dragon, a fierce fighter who can morph from a crimson killer to a sex-starved vixen at the drop of her panties. Torn between her true love and handler, Grey, and her hunger for Tiberius, the immortal with a thousand abs, Lexy becomes the focal point of the novel. Lexy’s inner thoughts give us a well rounded character who might well be a teenage drama queen were it not for the fact she has been an immortal for over 40 years. It is through her eyes that we connect with all the other characters—their flaws and their heroic strengths. Ms Cormack mixes sexual intrigues and battle scenes with a wry sense of humor that has become the trademark of her novels. If you are in need of a romantic fantasy this summer, I can’t think of a better way to spend your time. What a ride!
The story continues as the clans continue cleaning up otherworldy threats to humanity while collecting new partial immortals to shore up their numbers. Its a good series with interesting characters. One thing I do not enjoy however, is the redundant back and forth with Lexy and Grey. After three books it gets tiresome to the point I find myself skipping alot of their interactions that take place after one of Lexy's "indiscretions". It feels abusive to me to be honest. Other than that, I enjoy the series. Certainly full of action and interesting new characters and story threads. You do become invested in some of the players and want to know what happens next. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I was given an ARC from StoryOrigin and this is my honest review:
Lex again works with her handler Grey and new crew Kayn and Zach to rid the world of monsters. In this book you get a better look at the inner dragons hunger for the kill but also the toll it might start to take on Lex. She is a creation of their making after all. The relationship between Grey and Lex though is a bit of a buzz kill for the story. You can only read about his jealousness for so long before you don't even want to read about his character at all. He is a very interesting character indeed and needs more page time for his inner side. For this reason I gave a 4 star rating. I have enjoyed the series and look forward to any new additions in the future.
An entertaining read, in which Lexy's adventures are taken to a whole new level. Maybe I would have given it 5 stars if I had not occasionally felt the need for a different POV, to counteract Lexy's insecurities and give the writing more depth. Also, sometimes I feel the clan members are a bit childish, considering they have old souls.
The storyline is interesting and consistent, the characters quirky but endearing, and in the end it left me wanting to read more about the COA universe. All the new Ankh are intriguing, and give their future adventures a lot of potential.
I'm definitely interested to find out what's next.
This series is a new tale of intrigue, suspense, mystery, and powerful, ruthless enemies. This is one of those novels that just when you think you have this book all figured out... from genre to storyline... it turns you on your head and you are off and running in a new direction. I had to read it again a second time just because of those “Ah Ha!” moments and all the things I missed! Fantastic book. Great story. Highly recommend. I received this novella from StoryOrigin. This is my true and honest opinion.
This cover through 👀❤️🔥. Kim took us on a other ride with more emotions but with no stops or brakes.
Grey and his jealously was a bit to much after the first two books. It’s a bit slow and I skimmed through some of the pages due to that, but overall this book was amazing and how the words were written was really interesting.
Deplorable Me is the third book in the COA series.
Lexy, Grey, Kayn, and Zach are back with an even more exciting ride I am soooo loving this series! It's full of suspense, mystery, spice, lovable and quirky characters. dangerous threats and enemies. The world building is so fantastic and been a fan since the Children of Ankh series. Definitely looking forward to reading more!!
I had a difficult time getting into this book. The subject just wasn't to my liking, and I didn't care for the layout or the MC. I don't believe that reading the earlier books in this series would help, as I really, really struggled to finish this book. Just not my cup of tea, YMMV.
