Book 5 of the bestselling Eden's Gate series! After the turmoil in the Arena, Gunnar retreats from Highcastle and attempts to maintain a low profile while the heat regarding Reborns subsides.Avoiding the human cities, he sets out to unexplored lands with guild mates and a potential new recruit. But when his Great Beast goes missing, a simple quest turns into a troubling chain of events that spawns several unanswered questions. Why is Sora unresponsive? And why are dragons threatening the inhabitants of Eden's Gate? The King’s health may be postponing Dryden’s plans, but Gunnar’s saboteurs might have disturbed something that could be even more devastating than a Bloodletter invasion. Can Gunnar mend the thin thread that’s holding the world from falling into chaos, and after more than a month in Eden’s Gate, will he finally cave to the temptations of an elf?
Add a bunch of fun but standard quest objectives to some spooky death and destruction prophecies, mix it together with LitRPG goodness, and it won't scream original.
But then, all LitRPG stuff is literally riffing off generations of RPG games that literally ripped off fantasies who ripped off myths, so I really can't be bothered to care whether any of this is original. All I care about is whether I'm invested enough in the character that I want to see him level up after many brutal sessions and quests. I also want to see him get strong with his kitty. So that being said, BRING IT ALL ON.
This isn't a great series but it is okay. My biggest problem with this series is the main character. He is kind of an idiot. Worst of all though is that he thinks he is smart. He also is contradictory. He keeps saying that Edens Gate is his reality and he can't treat it like a game, then he turns around and treats it like a game.
I do like the genre and there are some storylines that I am still interested in (especially the love triangle building), so I am going to continue the series. It could be so much better if Gunnar wasn't such an idiot.
Almost anything redeemable about the main character was lost in this book.
While the main character had goals or objectives in the previous books, in this one he lucked into the main plot.
Then the complete devolution of his treatment of women. He didn't want to see Addelee, he only wanted to sleep with her. Almost anytime she came up that was all he thought. He had some monologues that were decent then completely forgot them time and time again.
In a nutshell this book is: I will do what I want, consequences be damned. Others don't matter unless they're stupid teenagers and reinforce my desire for selfishness. Oh and because I'm a main character, this is ok and I'll get stronger because of it. Oh and I'll just mouth off to everyone!
So little redeemable about Gunnar after this. Gone is the leader that thinks about his guild members. Gone is the PC that respects NPCs. Gone is the guy trying to be decent. This feels like a transition to a slice of life style that killed the likeable main npc.
Decent addition to the series. The main story doesn't progress too much, but these books are more about the journey than the destination. It's fun to see the main character progress and his guild grow. But at the same time, there's some very clear foreshadowing for future books.
I felt that after thrast book, there wasn't a lot of progression in this series to stay faithful to its release schedule.
While I think that this is still valid, the entertainment value of the story is back and the author has really done a great job of pushing it forward where it has indeed gone forward.
The writing in this series is OK. The characters seem pretty one dementional, and I've come to HATE gunnar. I actually stopped reading the book when he made some truly terrible decisions because I no longer cared about him or his whole crew. The world is really interesting, but honestly the MC made me hate this entire series.
Great addition to the series. I can tell the author has became a more experienced writer after reading this last entry. The books do seem to get better over time. If you haven't read from book one then there is no point to reading this. This isn't the best series in the genre but it's good enough to read even great at some parts. The story stays true to the game mechanics and RPG leveling that it started with, which is very important to me when reading this genre.
In summary, if you've read the previous books then you will enjoy this even more because in my opinion, each book series has been better than the one before it. If you haven't read the series, it's not my first litrpg reccomendation but it's worth the read. I will be reading the next book.
I’m a relatively new fan of the Lit-RPG Genre but I have to say, as an avid gamer myself, these kinds of books are hard for me to put down. I’ve read The Land, and Ascendance Online and I expect I will catch up on the rest of this series within the next week. I just want to say, keep up the good work cause I’m really enjoying your story this far. Your character doesn’t seem to follow the typical hero trope and I am so thankful for that because it’s really been overdone. There were a number of mistakes made that were pretty cringeworthy and at times I questioned the protagonists rationale but over the long run he seems to have learned from them and matured into a capable leader. I’m looking forward to the rest of his story.
Excellent continuation of the story. However, Typos / Errors have increased significantly in this book
The story of Gunnar is well done. The author’s ability to stick to Gunnar’s view and still share large world events is excellent and really appreciated. The books are easy to read and entertaining. Gunnar is not a perfect hero and that is refreshing. The trust of Sung is hard to believe in the face of the heavy handed flubs Sung makes repeatedly, but necessary. Just could have been more subtle. The author does need better editor/proofreader/beta readers. Cough it up to inexperience/ Chalk it up to misheard sayings. The most common type of error is similar to things like meaning to say ‘from’ but typing ‘form’.
Thoroughly enjoyable romp that isn’t spoilt by the odd grammatical error, really need to start reporting these, and several of the characters are developing nicely. Others however are mostly ignored and worse for me I’ve forgotten who a couple even are!!
The world continues to expand and new locations add to the story. Hopefully we’ll revisit in the future and complete dungeons and discover more about the cities seen so far.
Apparently around 10 books will be in the series but it feels like it could be even more even reaching WOT length 😉
So go on give the series ago as it’s improving with each book.
I like the Edens Gate series. It’s a good clean read. It has all the elements of a good RPG fantasy based story. The author keeps you invested in the world, the main character, and the supporting cast. I’m looking forward to how this love square works out. I hope the author is constrained by the classic monogamists lifestyle; especially with polyamory becoming/making strides as being an acceptable societal lifestyle.
It’s definitely one of my favorite LITRPG genre reads, behind the Land Series and Ascend Online series.
Another great installment in the Eden’s Gate series!
I liked the story plot, and the author’s commitment to sticking within the first person perspective of Gunner, even as we’re shown glimpses of potential antagonists or plot twists that will challenge him in the future. I really enjoy the commitment to the forming of relationships, as it adds to the realism to know that not all people will instantly fall over giddy at the sight of the unlikely hero.
Overall a great book, and a series that I’d recommend to any person new to the genre!
Gunnar is steadily maturing as he has more adventures and interactions. He appears to be taking more responsibility in some ways and is willing to trust his guild mates more, even leaving Aaron in charge. There are several new developments in this story, prior issues are dealt with, and Gunnar has increased motivation.
I kind of wish I’d stretched out reading this book, as now it is over and I need to wait for the next book! However, I just couldn’t do it and read it as quickly as I could. :)
I started down the rabbit hole with book 1 and found myself caught in the series. Overall a well rounded book that furthers the series. As I'm sure is the goal, I'm left waiting for the next book. The book continues at an eventful pace and maintains a good amount of unpredictability given the obvious restraints. There are enough possible paths to keep readers waiting to see what happens.
Check notes ofc. Its hard not to hate this MC, his general incompetence, his idiocy in dealing with keysia at one point, how he doesn't think things through, his naivety, childishness. Hard to enjoy a book where the MC sucks as bad as Gunnar does. The very end gives me hope that he'll finally start learning from his mistakes, stop being naive and maybe, finally, stop wasting his time. Lets hope Eanos and the mages guild can make him not suck in book 6.
I'm honestly falling in love with this series, every book I read I love it more. It's such a great read. It's nice to see Gunnar's flaws still existing as he navigates this new world. I can wait for the next one.
This series does a great job of including city building, adventuring, LitRPG elements and still putting characters that you fall in love with in the book. I highly recommend it.
Action, check Adventure check, Swords check, Sorcery check, Gunner, Sora, and gang makes for a great read.
This installment of the series is the best yet. It's hard to write much about it and not give spoilers. But I can tell you that Gunner and gang do Ann to their group, and he does adventure with someone that you would never expect him to. It's a great read and hard to put down.
Man, I was losing faith and dredging along just becuase I had invested a week or so of reading into these and wanted to see how far we got.
This resparked it. I was very worried about a characters relationship towards the beginning (won't do spoilers) and felt it was gonna go into some shitty trope that LitRPG seems tk have fallen into, but it was handled well and moved forward.
Gunnar gets a peak of what's to come from the Old One's prophecy can he stop it
Gunnar an his guild Unity continues to grow as more members join . His guild is strengthing up taking on more quest . Building their village as they grow . Adventuring taking chances hoping for the best outcome . Allowing for some personal time as well with a guild mate . recommend reading excellent series .
I really enjoyed this book and managed to read it in one sitting of an afternoon, I wish the book was longer and added more to the story of the guild, more exploration of crafting some town building. It seems that as the books go along there is less and less of these aspects which I really enjoyed of the earlier books but still it is a great book
So far each edens gate has been good this one more than most but I cant be the only one expecting gunnar to get a mouth full of man meat when he went down on keysia I call bs on being told your fb is open I sent a few screenshots of typos. You got good editors they only missed a few things. Love the series and eagerly waiting on book 6
I’ve read the whole series up to this point and I really enjoyed this addition. I wished there was a little more Aaron and Ozzy though. The book was great and seemed to have a good flow to it. But with any good series, I just wish there was more! I can’t wait for the next book.
Probably the absolute best litrpg author there is. The world is compelling and the characters seem real. In this new installment there is great battles and interesting game growth. There are some eye rolling moments when Gunnar does rediculous but totally realistic stuff. Many characters are relatable and feel more real than cookie cutter NPCs.
Thank you so much for this series! I really enjoyed this one a lot. I love the grumpy wizard that runs a shop and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the next book. I really enjoy that your Reborn can learn unlimited skills. I'm looking forward to many more novels from you!
A much better hero, more confidence and has learned a lot. Is capable and I enjoyed following his progression. Looking forward to next book. My one complain is that battle tells are still slow. Two many words and describing the events. Makes me jump over into next paragraph.
I've been enjoying this series about Gunnar and the other Reborn in Unity, and look forward to seeing how the series continues. Based on the text blurb, I expected far more about losing Sora - that whole episode was generally relatively brief, but, given how much happened I guess it's as good as any part of the story to use....
Another great foray into Eden's Gate, Gunnar's character is becoming more complicated as he levels and takes on more quests. The series is really starting to come alive with all the different characters interacting with Gunnar. It's great to see this world coming together slowly but surely, it just gets better with every book I read. Fab
Eden's gate was the first LitRPG that I read. And I've impatiently awaited each new book in the series. My thanks to Edward Brody for catching my attention and getting me started in this genre.
The sandbox world and skill system is my favorite. I feel like I would be on a similar path as Gunnar if I was in this world. Battle mage ftw.
