Reenacts the events of the Bataan and Corregidor battles of World War II through the eyes of the doctors, nurses, and soldiers interviewed after the war
I've read a great many works on the 1941-42 campaign in the Philippines, and the only work comparable to this is maybe Bill Sloan's work on the Philippines, Undefeated (also excellent). While as with most chronicles of the campaign it pays only a small amount of attention to the campaign outside of Luzon (Mindanao, Leyte, etc) it remains an extremely comprehensive work, underlining the drama of a campaign that most Americans would rather forget for its outcome rather than appreciate for the massive sacrifices made by Allied forces fighting the Japanese.
