The disappearance of a teenage girl triggers 80-year-old Mary to confess to three brutal murders committed in the 1940s, but will DCI Stone believe her?
1- I wasn't really compelled by the story, there was no investigation in it, so I kind of was left 🤔🤨 what's happening here? 2- DCI Stone is real pain, I usually bind with most of the detectives, but I couldn't bring myself to like him.
If this is the first of the series you have listened to I'm leaving this review here to encourage you to continue! I really enjoyed the series. It's especially compelling for me as I just moved to Manchester and was exploring a lot of the locations involved as I listened. I think the characters are really well done - very realistic, and the dialect and general police attitude is true to life (based on my limited experience anyway!). This book in particular - I could imagine meeting Mary Shane in town, I could understand (in a disturbing way) her story and how she ended up where she was. You can really feel what the characters feel throughout the series in a way that is rare to find! Great!
