When Kate Farris and her friends witness a cantankerous, old man drop part of a hand-drawn map, they try to return it to him, but the cranky man drives off. Upon investigating, they learn the man is Mr. Benson, an old prospector and hermit who lives in the nearby hills. After several horseback rides along the trails to search for the man, the kids find more adventure than they anticipated. When Kate and Tori overhear two men discussing Mr. Benson, rumors of the gold he’s found, and how they plan to rob him, Kate and her friends know they have to warn Mr. Benson before the thieves can strike. But what will happen if their plan backfires, and the men come after them?
Miralee Ferrell and her husband, Allen, live on eleven acres in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge in southern Washington State, where they love to garden, play with their dogs, take walks, and visit their grown children. She is also able to combine two other passions—horseback riding and spending time with her married daughter—since she lives nearby--and they often ride together on the wooded trails near their home.
Ironically, Miralee, now the author of over twenty books, with many more on the way, never had a burning desire to write—at least more than her own memoirs for her children. So she was shocked when God called her to start writing after she turned fifty. To Miralee, writing is a ministry that she hopes will impact hearts, and she anticipates how God will use each of her books to bless and change lives.
What a great story for kids with some good lessons! I enjoyed how the author wove the lessons into the story without sermonizing. As a senior adult, I find great value in this wholesome story for middle grade kids. I like the intertwining of a mystery with the normal curiosity of kids, even those with fears that are hard to overcome. Kate, Colt, Tori, Melissa, and Jake make a great team. Each is special in her or his own way, although many would see Pete as the special child. His story helps to highlight the uniqueness of children with autism. I loved the attachment between him and Rebel. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Great story showing how friends can work together to solve a mystery and share kindness with others. From horse riding to finding a possible treasure map, the friends encounter danger and mystery along the trail. I enjoyed the caring and compassionate ways of the main characters. Having the friends help a stranger reminds us that we all have unique life stories and we should not judge others. I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required.
Another great read! My girl has been following the story of Kate and Capri since book 1 and loves each and every story. Trouble on the Trail is no exception. It's the 6th book in the series, but could be read as a standalone. This book has the mystery, friendship and fun that my daughter loves. She gives it five stars for a great read. I give it five stars for the wholesome plot and excellent moral. Read it, you won't regret it.
Another great book in this series, with another great lesson about not judging people at first sight, because you don't know their story. I would love to see another book!
I was very excited to hear that Capri is pregnant! It will be fun to read about the new goal in future books. Favorite Characters: Capri Rebel Colt Mystery Foal
