At 14% the author wrote, "He’d never raise his hand to a woman. He’d never raise his voice." Yet here are quotes contradicting that very thing not once but twice from the beginning until chapter 4 (when I finally stopped torturing myself by reading this). Quote one,"He slid across the bench, leaned around her, and opened the door. With a vicious shove, he pushed her out of the limo, and she fell to the ground, bashing her hip against the cracked and crumbling curb." Quote two, "Eyes full of hate. He moved his hand with lightning speed, and he grasped a handful of her hair at the back of her head before she could even draw in a breath. Pain shot through her scalp into her neck, and it fought with the flame in her throat and ears."
This one started well, 4+ stars. The premise intriguing with a rich alpha-hole marrying a homeless woman. It took a little doing to suspend belief that woman living on the streets for 13 years would be attractive, or even alive. But the narrative worked so well, that I was able to read past that into the second third even as I had trouble with two adults in the 30s acting like 20-somethings. In the end, the super-over-the-top coincidence that ties them together cratered it. 2.5/3.0 stars.
I hated this book and after the first half I skip read it. A poor heroine with a booze addiction marries a rich guy because he was left at the altar by his fiancee and he wants to safe face. the plot was entirely stupid.
This was a great read from start to finish. The beginning just grabs you and won't let go, and, before you know it, you're eating up page after page. I buzzed through this book in a couple of sittings. The two main characters are both likable but deeply flawed...let's just say carrying around a lot of emotional baggage. Raven is a nicely layered character while Jax is more one giant, icy coating lol. Meanwhile, his brother Erik is a good supporting character, literally and figuratively.
On the whole, I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. I've read a few of Ms. Rheault's books not and this is the best so far. She writes with great vigor and fills her world with wonderful characters and places. Oh, and I really like the cover too.
I was a little split on this story. I wanted to stop, yet I needed to see where it was going. I wanted to stop because Jax was such an asshole, I didn't see how he'd be able to turn it around. Honestly, he barely did. You got glimpses of him being a decent guy, yet he held Raven at arm's length for so long. And when he wanted her comfort, she made him work for it -- good for her! I liked that she was eventually able to get her life together and figure out what made Jax so self-sabotaging. (I had a strong inkling of the deal about halfway through.) But by the end, they worked it out.
This felt more like an episode of Law and Order than a tale of romance. I lost count of how many interludes he had with other women during this plot. Jax was an irredeemable A-hole. Somethings cannot be undone. That is saying a lot because I have read some dark romance novels with H who showed more compassion than this ice cube. At 20% of the story, I just could not invest anything into this “couple”. At her lowest, he treated her like trash- just because. He was free and clear and able to help her but just didn’t want to.
I was really taken with the storyline of this book. I found it fascinating to follow her life on the street and the story of her make believe husband. Also the ending was somewhat of a surprise but could end no other way. A GREAT READ
The minute i started reading All of Nothing i read it to the end the characters were so believable and i felt their pain at times crying because i hurt for them both . One of my top 5 books to read . 2 thumbs up !
Oh my goodness this book was absolutely awesome. Love the story, how she lived on those awful streets. It was wonderful, with a lot of hard work to get where she can live with her self. She blamed her self for something that happen 13 years ago.
This story was so big. Jax was cold and closed off, Raven was cold from living on the streets. The 2 of them start a journey that is an emotional rollercoaster till the very end.
First book to be read by the author Vania Rheault. This book came recommended by a book group that I am in. I'm so glad this was on KU because once I started reading, I was definitely intrigued.
Storyline was a little out of the ordinary and I liked that. Wasn’t crazy about all of the main characters’ actions but they rang true. First book by this author I’ve read and looking forward to checking out the others.
Ehh… it was an ok read. I like angst but this is angst galore. MC’s get their hea but not until the very end. At 90% she is engaged to somebody else and he is getting some woman off with his hand in a bar 🫤. Just wasn’t for me.
Having read three other novels by this author, I thought I knew what to expect from her: good writing and a sweet love story. This novel was better than the previous three, and I adored those novels. While the love story was far from sweet at times, it felt more realistic. Raven and Jax are both terribly damaged. While I didn't like Jax at first, I came to understand him more toward the end of the story (not that his tragedy justified his asinine behavior). Raven struggled from having been a drug addict and ended up being the most likable character. This was a good story with lots of twists and turns. Once I started reading, I could hardly put it down and ended up finishing it in three sessions within the same day.
