Service-learning brings Ephesians 2:10 to life for students - 'For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them' - because when students connect classroom learning with genuine service to their communities, they not only master academic concepts better and learn how to apply them in real life, but also grow in their understanding of how God has uniquely fashioned them for His restoration work in the world. This book - the first of its kind for Christian schools - draws upon the authors' extensive work in schools to offer a proven roadmap for harnessing the transformation power of service-learning in your school.
This book was pretty helpful. It gives a nice explanation of what service-learning is, what it isn't, and its various benefits. There are also practical examples for what projects could look like and how a school might transition to a more comprehensive service-learning model from K-12. This is a challenging idea, and a service-learning model would require a lot of work from everyone involved in a school. This is a worthwhile and helpful resource for taking steps in that direction.
