Into the Night

Rate this book
When Blair and Bristol Bellamy’s overprotective parents agreed to let their daughters spend spring break in Oahu, they never anticipated that only one of them would return. What should have been a week of soaking up the Hawaiian sun next to pristine blue waters takes an unexpected turn when Blair wakes up on the beach one morning with no purse, no shoes, and no memory of what happened the night before.

And worse?

No sister. Bristol had vanished into the night. Gone without a trace.

After months of tireless investigations and dead-end searches, Blair was forced to return home to the Midwest without her younger sister, and her life was never the same—until ten years later when a package arrives, suggesting Bellamy might still be alive.

For the first time since Bristol disappeared, Blair has a reason to believe her sister is still out there. But if she wants to find her, she'll need to return to the place where it all happened, launch a dangerous investigation of her own, and if she's lucky, she might come out of it alive...

An absolute page turner about two sisters on Spring Break in Hawaii. Breaking rules and going out with two guys they met at a surf lesson, the night turns foggy as the drinks hit them hard. One wakes up on the beach with no memory of what happened. The other wakes up tied to a bed.. the beginning of her hellish existence still to come.

The dynamics of Blair's relationship with her mother, how the disappearance of Bristol affected so many peoples lives and the uneasiness of the abductor... Montgomery had me hooked. I felt and FELT for these sisters. They both had to endure their own hell on earth. How does anyone recover from this?

There are definitely some uneasy scenes that happen with the abduction. I couldn't even imagine or know how I would be in any of these types of situations. I certainly have always been wary about drinks bought for me - we learned early in college to keep and eye "just in case". However, when you're not even legal drinking age yet and your parents are extremely strict... well, you just might push the edges a little and I can't really blame them.

I've seen people put this in a YA category for some reason. And while I GUESS I kind of get it considering the girls ages, I wouldn't put it in this category at all. A bit of a harrowing read, but I enjoyed every page of it.

Thanks so much to the author for this copy.

I’ve had this on my kindle app for nearly 12 months so I thought it was finally time to read it. Why did I wait so long? That was a damn fine story!

19 year old Blair and 17 year old Bristol Bellamy head to Hawaii for spring break. Their over-protective parents have agreed to this vacation with a strict set of conditions for the girls. As we all know, things happen on holidays and, yep - the girls are charmed by a pair of young men and too much alcohol is consumed and, and...in the morning Blair wakes up on the beach with water lapping at her feet. Her head is splitting. A nice man helps her back to the hotel, all she wants to do is pass out on the bed. But when she gets into the room her sister is not there, nor has the bed been slept in.

Bristol is never found and 10 years later Blair is still haunted by her disappearance, her life is literally on hold and her parents seem to blame her for her sister’s disappearance. But she has never stopped looking. I could say more without being being too spoilery but I’m not inclined to. Read it for yourself, this story was so well done with a very strong female character and a plausible story and a nasty little twist but the sisters themselves are the stars. You won’t regret it. This is quite different from the often whiny female or too stupid to live woman. This one has guts! 4.5 stars.

Equal parts thrilling, disturbing and insanely suspenseful, Into the Night is a wild and crazy terrifyingly engrossing vacation story, that literally makes you want to crawl into bed, hide under the covers and never leave the country again! I mean, OK I lie, of course I'm going on vacation again, but remind me never to read a book like this any time close to my departure date!

Blair and Bristol's parents are SUPER crazy overprotective. And it was like pulling teeth getting them to agree to let college student Blair go on Spring Break, but not to where she originally wanted to go (to party), or who she wants to go with (her friends). They finally agree to let her go away on a vacation BUT she has to take her bratty little (16 year old) sister and they have to go where Bristol chooses - which ends up being Hawaii. OK, not so bad.

The trip actually starts off surprisingly well, and they seem to be getting along, even though they have to constantly check in with Mom & Dad. Bristol isn't getting on her nerves as much as she thought she would, and they just might be able to have a little fun together after all. Until Blair wakes up, covered in sand, soaking wet on the beach. Her phone, her shoes, her purse AND her sister are gone. And she has no memory of what happened.

As you can imagine, her parents lose their minds, and the search to find out what happened to Bristol is an insane spiral of investigations and clues, heartache and mystery. The story flips back and forth between two points of view, and several timelines, all pretty sad and disturbing, but intense and riveting to say the least. It makes for a long late night of reading because you won't want to put this book down until you find out what happened!

My first Marin Montgomery book - and definitely will not be my last!

3.5 STARS

Blair and Bristol Bellamy vacation in Hawaii for spring break. After a night of drinking with young men, Blair is found half-naked on the beach, her younger sister missing. Ten years later, Blair assumes Bristol is long dead when a box arrives suggesting she may be alive.

INTO THE NIGHT kept me engaged from start to finished. I empathized with Blair’s guilt, made worse by her emotionally abusive mother and feckless father’s lack of support. Bristol’s chapters, creepy and disturbing, were difficult to read and at times repetitive. I don’t know how many times I needed to read details of the same torture.

This is my fifth Marin Montgomery book. Her word-building, compulsively readable, creates tension and fast paced plot. While Blair was a complex, believable character, the villains in the story, The Mole and mom Priscilla Bellamy, were one dimensional, cookie cutter versions of Kidnapper and Bad Mother.

I bumped up to four stars because despite its dark nature, INTO THE NIGHT was an enjoyable read.

Thrilling, suspenseful, and outright disturbing, Into the Night by @marinmont18 was a page-turner that had me hooked!! This story was so creepy and definitely has me second-guessing going out for drinks (even if it isn’t on Spring Break) any time soon. 🙈 I couldn’t stop reading and was dying to get all the answers. I loved the way this story was told through alternating perspectives, giving us the total story from all angles. This is one you’ll want to check out the next time you’re in a psychological thriller mood for sure!

This book DESPERATELY needs editing. It is so poorly edited I had to google to see if English is a second language for the author.
Also, the synopsis leads you to believe you will be following the story of Blair and her search for her sister, when in fact we are down in an underground room for ten years with her sister while she is raped and tortured. So trigger warnings for all that. We learn very little about Blair at all.
But the lack of editing is what did it for me. Like “The poor mother learned all story through a meticulous journal.” The book is FULL of sentences like this. I mean almost every page. Nonsense! I really liked a previous book I read by this author, but I’m not sure I’ll read her again. Between the forced brutality, misleading synopsis, and the sloppy book itself, I don’t want to waste my time.

An incredible read! Two sisters go on spring break to Hawaii. When taking a surfing course they meet two cute boys who invite them out for drinks at a local bar. Excitedly they go! When the oldest sister wakes up she is half naked lying on a beach and her sister nowhere to be found. For ten years she searches for her younger sister with no answers!

I promised myself that i wouldn't start another book before i finish the 4 books that I'm multi reading, but of course i failed miserably at keeping that vow and binge read this thriller. i couldn't put it down it was so g o o d !

it had such an impact on me that i started reading it at 3 in the morning (i'm psycho, i know) and had to put it up at 4 am due to a scolding i got from my mama. i woke up at 5 because i was terribly thirsty and i had this thought roaming in my brain that i had to alert Blair, had to save Bristol asap. i had a nagging suspicion that the mole is behind me lurking in the shadows, ready to strike as soon as i turn away from the light.

the story had me gripped in it's wordsy claws and they didn't come lose even at the end. i would have rated it five stars if not for a few things that i couldn't agree with ; no matter how strong and determined she was, the events that took place in Bristol's life were bound to shake her up to the core. i realized that she'd adjusted to her new routine fairly well, she didn't feel disgusted by the life she was carrying in her belly, no matter how innocent it was, it came from rape. How could she feel protective of a fetus that was planted in her by a man who kept her in shackles and treated her like a child ? More over, where did all that strength come from that she could so easily go after her captor to put an end to his life. I mean c'mon, she experienced all that shit for a decade. a. decade. after finally getting out of a horrendous situation with one man, how could she have enough trust left in her to settle with another almost immediately ? these few aspects i couldn't agree with, otherwise the book is a great read and I'll still say that it was un-put-down-able !

This is my first time reading anything from this author and I'm glad I did. I will be reading more for sure!
Awesome Read!

I got wrapped up in this story from the very beginning, with the prologue and first chapter giving me a look at what was to come. Both filled me with dread, but also with curiosity and the need to find out what was going on and why it was happening. As I read the book, I kept telling myself “one more chapter” only to find that I had read several more and still didn’t want to stop.
The story is told by two women, in alternating chapters, which built the suspense. The real-life, current issues addressed here made me think and scared me, plus there is a dose of “what if” tossed into the mix. I saw how something that should be good can be twisted into justification to control and hurt others. There really is a lot going on here, making it very engrossing and interesting.
Two things I’m certain of after reading this book: One is that I won’t be entering into any type of agreement any time soon! The other is that I will definitely read more books from this author.

What a great thrill and suspence it was to read. What a great psychological thrill! This novel had everything in it. The thrill, the suspence, the psychological, and the twist is crazy. This novel will keep you thinking and guessing. When you think you right, well let me just say that you might be wrong. This had me all over the place. My heart beatting so fast! I couldn't believe what I was reading. If had me in shock. Every page, every chapter was a page turner. I couldn't believe my eyes what I was reading. I highly recommend everybody get this book and read it. It will surprise you in every way.
Highly Recommend!

Sisters Blair (19) and Bristol Bellamy (17) are shocked but excited that their overprotective parents agree to let them spring break in Oahu. After a few days of sunning and shopping the girls decide to learn how to surf and this is where their nightmare begins.

When surfing instructor takes a shine to Bristol, the girls find themselves invited to go clubbing with fake IDs. Blair wakes up on the beach the next morning scantily dressed with no shoes, no pursue, and no memory of what happened the night before. What is worse, Bristol is nowhere to be found.

The book is from the point of view of Blair and Bristol. The reader is clued in on what both girls go through for the next ten years and the struggles they are faced with from that fateful night. Blair not knowing if Bristol is alive and what really happened to either of them that night; Bristol fighting to stay alive and find her way home. Will she ever be found and if so, will she be dead or alive?

Full of intense drama, mystery, suspense, terror, and lots of twists and turns, this book will captivate you and not let you put it down.

Frightening and Intriguing - Another Great Thriller

I am a huge fan of this author and this book is another great example of why! If I had a teenage daughter I would make her read this as a (hopefully exaggerated) cautionary tale.
The book is the story of Blair and her younger sister Bristol, who go on spring break in Hawaii and only one of them returns. The story follows the characters and the effects of the missing teen on the entire family.
The book is fantastic and took turns that I didn’t always see coming. The changing perspectives and how the story evolved took me a bit of time to get into, but then I was hooked.

Laughably ridiculous execution of an idea that had potential. Needs major editing.

** spoilers **
After 9+ years of malnourishment, torture, confinement, rape and psychological abuse, Bristol has no signs of PTSD while in the hospital recovering or, after she released from the hospital, when she moves in with the man who found her . No one could go thru a fraction of her ordeal and not need intensive therapy. Instead were supposed to believe she is fine, has no major lingering trauma and is magically in love with the man who found her when she escaped. This book terrible.

This reminded me of the real life story of Natalee Hollaway who disappeared in Aruba and the movie, The Room! I was drawn into the story immediately, feeling a connection to the characters, feeling concern that all would work out! Intriguing, well written, suspenseful! This deserves 10 Stars!

Great book! Reminded me of jaycee Dugard. Parts of the book were rather unrealistic where I thought to myself 'oh come on'. Several typos and a few missing words (would drive an English teacher nuts). All in all - veery good book.

A good and at times difficult read. When I say difficult it isn’t because the book wasn’t good but because some of the things that happened during it. But it was still so good and kept me on the edge of my seat at points. This author is so good at telling a story and truly does it oh so well.

I give it a very generous 4 stars. The first 60% of the book was very predictable and “the same old story.” I was going to give it 3 stars because it was just boring but the ending saved it. I would still recommend it though.

I liked the first half but it just got far too unrealistic towards the end. A great plot, let down by poor editing.
