Cully the Bounty Hunter #1

A Man Named Cully:

Rate this book
After witnessing both his parents killed by a vicious gang, Samuel “Cully” McCullough has devoted his life to putting such outlaws either in their graves or prison. Having worked both as a U.S. marshal and a bounty hunter he ruthlessly pursues villains who plague the West. The son of a clergyman, Cully has strayed from the faith but not from righteousness. As committed as Cully is to law and justice, shrewd and ruthless outlaw “Smiley” James lives a life of crime. With his hardened gang of killers he has created a horrific mail-order bride scam. Young women are lured from the East to become brides for ranchers or businessmen in the West. When they arrive they are taken captive and forced to work in a profession that has nothing to do with wedding rings.James fancies himself as a rich businessman and is more than willing to kill anyone and everyone who gets in his way. Cully is hired to find a young mail-order bride from Philadelphia who has gone missing. The evidence leads to Smiley and his gang. Cully is outnumbered and out-gunned. This is not the first time he has faced long odds, and it may be the most dangerous and bloodiest hunt of his career. Each book in the Cully the Bounty Hunter series is a standalone story that can be read out of order.

A shoot 'em up Western

Fully remembers stories his mother read to him before the badguys killed her. Now he dreams of Lancelot and slays the bad guys while reading fair maidens.

Might seem a little slow in the beginning, but believe me, hang in there for the long run and you will begin to feel the warmth explode. Really an exciting and very entertaining representation of old western adventures. Once the fun begins the rest is all about the real western folklore all of us true western readers look fore. The shootings, real romance and the exciting camaraderie of the good guys.

My first time enjoying a five star move by a very well informed western storyteller, who apparently completed his research before starting his first attempt at success. This is a truly descriptive episode of our real old western folklore at its very best. A very family-friendly and heartwarming masterpiece of ongoing never ending accomplishments of those defenders of the peace and integrity of our old western lawmen
I love the storylines and characters of this amazing story that touches so close to realty, making it one of my all time favorites. Too, I have already purchased the next two stories of the series. I, most definitely, recommend this book, as I found the story very fulfilling and entertaining. No matter what your preference in reading is, I am sure you will be adaptable to the ongoing excursions of this amazing story. It touched my heartstrings throughout the entire story. Give it a try and encourage other r readers, who normally follow your preferences!😅

After my surprising 4 stars enjoyment of the first Orris Slade book I read (Billy's Back), I dove directly into a second book from this mysterious author. A Man named Cully is the first of a twelve book series called Cully the Bounty Hunter. Again, Orris Slade wrote a very good story filled with emotions, suspense and action. The pacing is perfect and the writing style is easy-to-read and flows smoothly. Like Bily's Back previously, this is a traditional western with very distinctive good guys and bad guys in the vein of those old western "matiné" movies. But Orris Slade (whom ever he is) is a very good storyteller who has achieved something difficult nowadays with the plethora of e-books available, he kept me entertained and more importantly, kept me reading.

An OS Western About Cully the Bounty Hunter/Kidnapping/Murder/prostitution?

OS has penned a western about a full time criminal who comes up with the idea that he can open a boarding house to hide a house of prostitution. He then sends answers to young women about the possibilities of marriage
Then kidnaps the women to put them in pay for sex situations. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

My first Slade book but not my last!

I am happy to say that I have found another author for whom to watch!
Fully is a hero of the finest kind. He is smart, he cares about people and he does not hesitate when action is required!
Happily from me, Mr. Space edits well or has a good editor. I was not distracted by stilted language, pretentious words, our of place commas or bad spelling. Thank you, Mr. Slade!

Worthy of being read.

This book is fine if you're just picking something off the shelf looking for something to read. The author could stand to build better, more interesting characters. But, at least the book isn't filled with page after page of unnecessary, supposedly descriptive drivel generally used to fill up pages. That's a plus, and a nice change. The book tends to read like the first book of a young author but, all in all,
it's worth reading.

A Man Named Cully: (Fully the Bounty Hunter - Book 1)

Cully was a man who tried to do what was right no matter which had he was wearing at the time, he could be a U.S. Marshal, a sworn in deputy, or a bounty hunter. He had made a vow to try to make the West a safer place to live. He seemed to be making good on his promise, one gang of outlaws at a time. BRAVO 👏👏BRAVO!!!!

A really good story. I like the fact there is no curse words. I get so tired of authors that have to write every expletive they can think of just to "get my attention" well they get it, I just delete the book from my Kindle and don't read it. This is a very good story told by a really good author. I think you will enjoy this as much as I did. Happy reading.

"An Interesting, Entertaining Story"

This is the story of a crafty outlaw hunter. After Samuel "Cully" McCullough witnesses murders by a vicious gang, he devotes himself to putting such outlaws in prison, or in the grave ... their choice. This is an old western story I thoroughly enjoyed. It's like watching an old western movie. A very captivating story.

Cully has been a Marshall, sheriff deputy and bounty hunter. Whatever it takes to get the bad guys. He is also a regular Good Samaritan. When a murderer and thief, with the unlikely name of Smiley, decides to start a house of ill repute, using slave labor. Cully has his work cut out for him. Lots of action!

Mixed emotions

I have mixed emotions after reading this book, because I read Cully’s Story and enjoyed it and saw a great start for a book series. This story line is disjointed and jumped to much. It was like several short stories filling a book. The characters are not developed. There isn’t any background description on the country the story takes place in.

Good western reading

Mr. Slade depicts the west as it probably really was. Some trying to benefit from the labor of others and those trying to bring them to justice. What ever the end will be

Heart

I can tell Mr Slade ment for his book to have heart but to me it did not. Curly did not have any interactions with people to help you get to know him. There was some excitement but no heart.

I really enjoyed A Man Called Cully and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. It was very well written and the characters seemed to jump out from the pages of the book. Once started I couldn't put it down.Cully is one in a million

Love a cowboy story

I am a nice old lady, but I love gunplay, Riding horses, good guys against bad guys. This book had it all. Fast paced and a little romance makes this novel a great read.

I often wonder how and or why some westerns stand out over others, but after reading this book I came to the conclusion that I will never know. I found it difficult to get into this book. The main character was hard to like. He was egotistical and not funny at all.

Action and adventure

Mail order bride with a major pot hole in the road. I've not read a mail order novel quite like this one and I truly loved it. Lots of action and true western action.

Cully

What an admirable man. This story started out with action and non stop to the end. He is looking at who would mourn for him. So maybe Fully will find his future settle soon in the next book.
