Suddenly it seems it’s not just SLAY’s fans following their every move…

QUOTES ON BOOK 1, SLAY:

“It's so much fun! Remember when YA was fun and it wasn't just people like me preaching at you about things you already agree with? Slay is boyband fights evil and it's going to be huge and you're going to love it.” Patrick Ness, author of A Monster Calls

“Gloriously absurd, fast-paced summer read.” The Metro

“Boys as swoon-worthy as One Direction saving the world from evil? Sign me up!” Amy Alward, author of The Potion Diaries

“Kick-ass, funny, laugh-out-loud book about a boy band that slays demons! It’s classic cheesiness and that’s the best thing about it. Slay is one of those that is like guilty pleasure with a mixture of Mission Impossible action and gadgets, with the twist and badass of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Never Judge a Book by its Cover blog

Kim was born in Dublin and moved to London when she was seven. She got her first typewriter when she was eight, had a poem she wrote about a snail published in a magazine when she was nine, and that was it – Kim was hooked on writing.

Because she never thought she’d actually be able to make a living as a writer, she decided she needed a trade to fall back on. So, naturally, she went to Sussex University to study philosophy.

While Kim’s plan of being paid big bucks to think deep thoughts never quite worked out, she did land a job as a junior copywriter with an ad agency a week after graduating. She’s worked in advertising ever since, specialising in writing for videogames.

What a massive ball of fun this is. Sometimes you just need to read about a boy band of demon slayers in Japan to escape reality. I absolutely had a blast. The characters are interesting, the plot is unique and the cover just makes my heart sing.

There has yet to be a book written by Kim Curran that I have not wholeheartedly enjoyed, and Slay on Tour is no exception. I will admit to being both excited and anxious about reading this book. Excited because I really enjoyed Slay, anxious in case this second book did not live up to the excellence of the first. Fortunately, that was not a problem with this book. This book was just as exciting, fun, and intense as the first book was and I highly recommend it.

One of the things that I really liked about the book was how as a reader, you were aware that something sinister was happening but knew that the characters weren’t quite able to put everything together because as a group, they did not have all the pieces of the puzzle. Thus the reader is left urging them to work it out before it’s too late. This added an intensity and addictive feel to the book as you race through the pages trying to figure out if it will all work out or not. The whole plot was very interesting and quite literally kept you on your toes throughout.

In Slay we are introduced to the characters for the first time. Characters that, figuratively, flew off the page as I was reading. Fortunately in Slay on Tour, the characters continue to fly off the page and I really loved reading their dynamic relationships with each other too. A few new characters are also thrown into the mix too but each one is very interesting and fascinating to read about. Kim definitely knows how to create realistic and believable characters that you can’t help but root for.

All in all, this is a very good book, that I very much enjoyed. If you love books that follow bands, or books about demons – or especially both! – than this is a series that you do not want to miss out on! Kim Curran has created a fun, but also serious series that is full of adventure, intrigue and intensity that will have you hooked from page one. But don’t just take my word for it, follow the other bloggers on the tour to find out more reasons you should read this fantastic series!

In the 2nd book of the Slay series, we follow the demon-slaying boyband to Tokyo, where there has been a spate of recent demon sightings, as they join the tour of a group of hologram girls as a support act and are targeted by an unknown enemy who seems to cause the group great harm. The characters in this series are all fantastically done- heroine Milly and the members of Slay are all wonderful and I adore the band`s manager Gail so much I can`t find the words to explain how much, but the sinister demons and new supporting characters are all so well-characterised too. One of my favourite things about book one was how action-packed it was, and while this certainly kept that up, I also really liked its quieter moments where the dynamics between characters shift (I`m a BIG fan of the love triangle in these books!) and also where they reflect on the various life-changing events of book one and the effect it has had on all of them. That said, the book isn`t sombre in the slightest, and the banter between the band is still absolutely hilarious. I was hooked on the mystery of who was responsible for the various accidents on the tour throughout (as well as the other mysteries that spring up as you get further in) and the reveal was better than I could have ever guessed, and I was so shocked by it. I haven’t heard anything about there being further books in the series yet, but if there are I will absolutely be reading them to see where Slay goes next, and who they come up against when they get there. 4.5/5

"The dark spirit of the Oni traps the human soul. Crushing it, destroying it. The oni spirits are stronger than ours. Once the oni spirit has merged with a human soul, there is no way back for the human. The oni always win."

I am literally in love with most of the USBORNE books I have received for reading and reviewing. Seriously, you guys should check out their collection.

Yass.... I finally finished Slay on Tour. As much as I liked the first book, I knew the second would be even more amazing. I was right. It did not dissapoint me at all.

The demon slaying got even more intense when Slay lands in Japan. Gosh... I loved all the Japanese names of the new characters in this one.
The mystery was so on point and even better. There was some serious emerging of technology and traditional demon stuff.
To top it off, Slay killed it with performing their new music and solving the mystery of this Japanese version of demon theories, that weird black box with holograms of girls and what not.

I loved how this book focused on our Slay sweetheart Tom. Loved his character revelation, him fighting the dark side of his constantly after that last encounter. Struggling to find his true self and embrace the flaws.
Also, the entrance of a new character Aneki was awsome...literally.
In 300 something pages, the author delivered an amazing and diverse story, filled with emotions, suspense, humor action, music, friendships and demon slaying. Sounds cool doesn't it?

I definitely recommend the duology🙌.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Slay are back and still super fun!! I dare anyone to read this series and not enjoy it.

I really liked how Japanese mythology wove well into the story - I’ve read a couple of other Japanese inspired books recently and it was nice to see similar elements. I also loved the holograms, even if I couldn’t understand why you would go see a holographic band play live ;) - that actually seemed very Japanese, l loved it.

Slay on tour is fun and lively and full of demons. In other words, brilliant. Milly fits in well, but I like most her decision at the end. And I like Tom dealing with his changes and the darkness. For a series that stays very lighthearted, it dealt with that element really well.

I definitely can’t wait for the series to continue - look out London, they’re on their way!

When a concept is this quirky, it's hard not to enjoy! I had fun with book one in this boy-band-slays-demons series, and the party kept going with book two, this was fast paced, had a compelling mystery, and oy, the teen angst. I was disappointed with the progress of a certain love triangle, but I'm guessing book three is still ahead and I hope things get remedied for my team.

This was an awesome sequel to Slay! I mean who doesn't love a demon fighting boy band plus one badass female?!

I liked that Milly was more confident with the band and how Tom is dealing with the loss of his right hand after the events of book 1. I also liked that this book was more of a dual POV from both Milly and Tom, though I did feel it took away the main character-ness of Milly.

I also liked the small romance between Milly and Tom,though the triangle was irritating at times and I prefer JD over Tom, but it was still cute and divided the story up from the action.

The plot was cool and continues after the previous book, this time taking place in Tokyo, I loved the setting and world building of Tokyo and the cultural aspects the author used. One thing I would say is that the pace was slow at times and the twists were predictable, it was still enjoyable however but some parts were expected.

I like the open ending, though not everything is cleared up, I liked how we see everyone happy and being a band and we can guess that they are going to continue to play then slay!

This was surprising to say the least. After reading the blurb I wasn’t too sure what to expect and then after checking Goodreads I found that it was the second in a series, not that the first is listed on there. From this I kind of went in wary as I had no idea about the first book and obviously hadn’t read it.
Slay is about a Milly who is joining a boy band on tour called Slay and the tour starts off smack bang in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Straight off the bat, I love Japan and am actually heading there in 6 months’ time so this was reviving the hype for the upcoming holiday!
The plot was intriguing and different, though I wanted a little bit more depth to it, a little more plot twists, if you know what I mean. I felt as though the plot was a bit basic.
The characters were bright, vibrant and full of personality and one of the main aspects of this book that I enjoyed.
Overall it was a light and bubbly read but I did find the book very predictable.

2.5 stars!

I was really looking forward to reading this book as I loved the first one, but this sequel fell a bit flat for me. Book one, Slay, was definitely not the best piece of literature I've ever read but I loved my time reading it. Unfortunately though I can't say the same about Slay On Tour. Yes, it was fun and entertaining but I have some things that I did not like. Sadly, I was often bored and it took me some time to get through this book because my motivation to pick it up and continue reading was lacking.

The characters are fine. All of them have some personality and something distinctive about them. J.D is the mysterious bad boy, Connor is the funny one, Tom is sweet and kind, Zek is sarcastic and Nev is the smart guy. We follow Millys perspective most of the time, and yet she is the one that have the least amount of personalty. I didn't hate her but she was quite stupid at times, felt pretty cliché, and the way she acted felt very unrealistic at times. I also got some I’m-not-like-other-girls-vibes from her, which was very disappointing. I think all of them would have benefited with more depth and development.
The plot is also okay. In the first, maybe, ⅔ of the book, the plot felt a little vague and I wasn't sure in what direction the story would go in. Things happened but most of them didn't add to the story, in my opinion. The novel also felt predictable. Everything that happened felt very convenient and I wish that the characters had figured out more things on their own, and not just get everything given to them. But in the end, things picked up, there was action and plot twists and I could not stop reading but overall I was bored for the most part.
Something I appreciate about this book is the worldbuilding. The world in this series is simple and does not have many layers, but in this book things got a little more complex which was a good improvement from the previous book.
I have some mixed feelings on the romance in this novel. It’s a love triangle, which I don't like. I enjoy reading about a relationship between just two characters, and how it slowly develop and I wish that was the case in this book but it wasn't. I would say that the love triangle is well written because it’s not predictable and does not take sides between the two love interests, which is really good. Though it’s still very annoying how Milly can’t decide who she like and is going to focus on, (or none of them). It's very irritating to me, to read about love triangle that never seems to have an end. I do like the two love interests equally so I don't really care who she will choose. J.D is very protecting and caring of Milly and they have more chemistry and passion, but Tom is just so sweet, cute and kind. I don't know if there is going to be a third instalment in this series, but if there is I hope that it gets resolved in the beginning of the book so it can focus on one relationship and several friendships instead of a love triangle.

If there isn't going to be a third book in this series I will be very annoyed because we need a conclusion because this ending left of with a cliffhanger and I need answers, so I will keep my eyes open!

I wanted to read this book because I had read the first book in the series and really enjoyed it. This second book did not disappoint, and I haven’t seen any news about Slay 3 but I really hope it becomes I think because surely we need answers.

The main character is still a young girl named Milly and she is apart of one of the biggest boybands in the world named Slay. She disguises as a boy when she plays music with them, but they have another job which is killing demons. They are in Tokyo to track down another evil demon whilst in Japan they have been invited to go on tour with the hottest holographic girl band in the country. They found themselves going all over Japan. However strange things start happening on the tour train and Slay must save everyone, including one of their own.

It is a young adult book and includes a lot of different characters including mixed race, LGBTQ+ and disabilities. It is a very uplifting, run, kick-ass book and it was an easy read which is what I liked the most about this novel. I think because we got to learn about the characters in the first book it was easy to get sucked into the normal everyday drama of young boys and girl. The feelings and crushes with like the situation of the demons that they need to fight. I wouldn’t say there was any weakness with the storyline, but just my personal preferences is that the chapters are just named, there is no numbers which did baffle me at first and the shorts chapters but once I got over it and got used to it. It became a really easy read.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good, easy read and it’s an uplifting and good book. I enjoyed the storyline and I am hoping there will be another book in this series.

Slay on Tour felt like a huge improvement from the first book in the series. The pace of the first book was rather slow because it took its time introducing the five members of Slay and their demon-hunting ways, but with that out of the way the action came thick and fast for the entirety of this second book. It made it difficult to put down and I ended up blasting through it in two sittings, which is record-breaking time compared to how long it took me to chug my way through Slay!

With Milly getting more involved in the action and the introduction of a mysterious ninja who appears to be able to save those who have been possessed by demons, everything is completely flipped on its head. The Japanese folklore that Kim Curran focuses on is captivating and makes me want to do more research in the future, while the twists and turns that Curran puts on to the demons that she crafted in book one makes this a far more interesting installment than just a bunch of demon fights in a new location.

The end of the book definitely seems to be setting up for another sequel - something which has yet to be announced - but if Milly and Slay having another adventure I'm definitely going to be on board. This series is going from strength to strength, and it's nice to see such a diverse range of characters all shining brightly.

Really enjoyable sequel (not read the first one!) about the demon-fighting pop group Slay! Milly is pretending to be Milo and she has stepped into Tom's role in the band, as he lost his hand during a battle in the first book. They are on tour in Japan and Ikiryo is a J-pop girl group made entirely of holograms! Turns out, Hideyoshi who has the hologram box is actually stealing the girls' souls and their bodies are getting inhabited by demons... He tries to take Tom and make him the 10th member of the band, but they manage to stop him before that happens. Nomura, a Japanese show host (Simon Cowell-like) is the one controlling Hideyoshi and the demons in the band, and he is the demon Mourdaunt that Slay fought in the first book.
Overall, an enjoyable YA book involving demons, music and Japan - 3 things I really like! 🥳😁

I honestly loved this book so much more than the last! The characters had an upgrade, the writing had an upgrade... even the demons had an upgrade!

I really liked the Japanese folklore aspect to it. Love, love, loved it actually!

Also the tense but not-typical love triangle? Right up my alley. Does it even count as a love triangle?

Would recommend to 12+. Minor gore and romance.

Review originally posted on The Bibliophile Chronicles.

Slay are back with even more adventures and demon killing! I read the first book in this series last year and adored it so I was so excited to get back to this fun and exciting story. This time round the band are in Tokyo and are joined by a band of holographic girls. Of course some odd things start happening and the band find themselves dealing with a new enemy – what could possibly go wrong?

Reading the first book I fell in love with Milly and the band and it was so wonderful to be back following their story again. Milly has become a member of the band and it’s wonderful to see her character develop as she takes on the role of Milo. The characters are all really well fleshed out and I love all the banter and fun moments between the band and of course their manager Gail.

As can be expected the story is full to the brim with action and adventure and I loved the sense of mystery – attempting to discover who was behind all the goings on. There were a few twists and turns too which definitely kept me hooked and eager to know more. I loved the new setting for this story, Curran weaves in the sights and sounds of Japan and it adds for another fascinating layer to this addictive tale.

Curran creates a multi-layered plot with the demon slaying, the band leading a double life, Milly pretending to be a boy and love triangle that has been developing throughout both books. I loved the way it all meshed together to create such a fun and exhilarating story. If you’re looking for a fun and fresh new series, these books are perfect for a weekend binge read.

💕Slay On Tour By Kim Curran💕
After Milly’s rescued from mortal danger by the hottest band on the planet, she hardly expects to join them… But now she’s headed to Tokyo, ready to track down a hellraising demon. And when SLAY are invited on tour with a super-cool band of holographic girls, it’s Milly’s turn to step into the spotlight.
.
❤I am a sucker of good plot and amazing characters and this book has it all. It's the second installation in the Slay Series and am so glad that I could read it this sooner. Firstly, I haven't read much about Japanese mythology and this book has brought me into the world I don't know or I never thought something like this too can exist, plus, the not so healthy love triangles that goes on and on will make you laugh and die for love at the same time. The book is all about the strange things starts happening on the SLAY tour train. .
Loved the language and for me it was moderately spaced throughout. Umm, Milly is my favourite and will always be. Some concepts were forcefully applied made me down.
.
Also, the cover is extremely adorable, after this book, I expect a third book soon though am not sure when it's gonna come out but it definitely should.

Just like the first one, this is also ludicrously enjoyable and silly and charming!

I hope there’s going to be a third one, and I hope also that Connor turns out to be queer in some way, please and thank you.
