Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Well we finally get to see the third sister Rowan step up and show just how fierce she can really be. Rowan spent five long years at the hands of enemies, used , abused and totally out of touch with reality. Now she's with the Protectorate trying desperately to prove there's still a place for her in the magical world but with her own innate magic missing just what can she do ?
Oo I do love a woman who refuses to just lie down and Rowan has gumption in spades. No longer a dark wraithlike creature but back with her family and determined to show her mettle. She might have those around her with doubts but with a few new potions she's created , a bit of hard work and extra training Rowan will rise to whatever challenges the pantheons or demons have in store. Oh and speaking of training there's a rather dishy new trainer helping out the Protectorate. Only trouble is Maximus has seen the new dark power that's flooding Rowan but hey ho that's just the start of this adventure.
Well I like other readers have looked forward to this book as Rowan has suffered so much previously that I'm really hoping for great things as this woman deserves them ! As usual with this author my head reels from all the details thrown in and if it's a touch of history along with magic, mayhem and myths then you just can't go wrong. Yes this is YA so isn't going to be out and out sexy but as Rowan is in her twenties then there's definitely room for some romance in her life and yes I'm looking at you Maximus !
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I really liked this book.

I didn't know about other books in this series, but it didn't really matter that this was the first for me. Though I plan to go try to figure out the order and read them. Very interested in the series and really liked Rosen and Maximus .

Meh. Everything goes Rowan’s way. Like legit everything. I have no idea why Rowan was even tapped for this mission, it sounded like she was just starting the Academy and suddenly she’s on this mission to find who was doing these killings? And then I thought Maximus was gunna be all mysterious and shit but nope. He turned out to be a nice dude which is fine, but with the scowling mentioned when he’s first described I totally thought he’d be a bit more difficult to get to know. Anyways basically I don’t get much explanation into what’s going on here. And it wasn’t that exciting. I kept expecting it to get better. I kept expecting a dragon shifter.

This whole thing was meh.

so, this was Rowan's first day in class but her classmate was the same as Ana (it was like the classmate never advance, only a prop in this sister's universe). the details in this book was bad and some of the situations were downright impossible but hey, bad book never follows the law of physics.

Recap:
Rowan and Bree was in the Vault because Rowan had been receiving warning of robbery or assaults letters from some unknown sender and that day, she got a warning of murder for the first time. they saw two drunk men who was about to be ambushed by a group of demons but the demons only tried to hold them until a flying monster (that sometimes flickered into human form) came. Bree took care of the monster while suddenly, there was (cliche alert) a tall, hot, handsome, powerful dude who also fought the demons. But Rowan, who had been feeling darkness inside her (that was why she enjoyed being in the vault so much), suddenly almost got killed by a demon but the demon said she was one of them and she turned the demon to dust and for a moment, her magic smelled like a decay.

Bree immediately took Rowan back and discussed what happened with Ana. They said they would help Rowan finding the answer, etc, etc. The next morning was Rowan's first day of class and the teacher was of course the hot dude, his name was Maximus (more like gluteus maximus). It was a battle simulation but Lavender and two other students (Rowan already 'neutralized' Angus) was ganging up on her. Rowan managed to beat them all and she was about to celebrate her victory when Florian came, screaming murder in Edinburg. Rowan and Max (calling him Maximus was a bit excessive) went there and they found two bodies outside Whiskey and Warlock (and let's call it W&W), already gutted.

Ali found a feather and Rowan saw a raccoon held another similar feather nearby. she tried to take it but the raccoon could speak and said he would barter the feather in exchange for her trash. Rowan imbued the feather with some tracking spell called psychometros and licked it. A vision showed her a place beside the Amazon River called El Dorado. Jude came and Rowan asked to go for a mission because she was the only one who could track it but only if Max came to accompanied her (because Jude especially hired him to train her). they immediately teleported (using the transportation charm) to some tiny village to find a boat and met with Eloa in a casino (of some sort).

At first, Eloa refused to take them to El Dorado, even with the offer of money, but Rowan cheated in the card game and Eloa agreed to help. They fought some giant snakes (the author needed to be more creative with her monster variety), some ghosts (see?! how many types of ghosts she tried to invent?) that was a bit like phantom but could hurt them physically—which Rowan disintegrated with her power—and some stone statues (very creative, indeed). Max was curious about her because the ghosts showed each other's past (i wonder why it didn't show Eloa's?) and he decided to tell her his past in exchange for hers.

He said he came from the first century and was a gladiator. but he got tired of killing his fellow slaves so he rebelled but it failed. However, some of them managed to escape, but he was determined to kill the caesar. Virtus, he god of bravery, stopped him but he admired Max's bravery so he gave Max his power, turned him into a demigod, and sent him to the future to prevent him from trying to kill the caesar. After this, Rowan opened up about her past. They arrived to El Dorado and they were faced with the choice of fight or flight (but Eloa already left). Max decided to bluff their way inside and they were taken to the Great One, who was powerful but definitely not kind. After they made some sacrifice, the Great One said that he indeed helped the demons releasing the monster (it used to be bounded and couldn't kill) by giving it some potion.

They asked to rest for the night but the guards (with super speed) overpowered them when they tried to escape and threw them to a pit. The woman who was sitting beside the Great One decided to help them (she was so fed up of him). She said she was some kind of a seer and she knew about Rowan's connection with the demons and when the monster fed, the darkness in her also increased. After they raid the Great One's laboratory, they escaped when Rowan disintegrated the guards away with the darkness, which made her a bit grayer. The woman just left while they returned back to the protectorate, handing the potions to Lachlan and Hedy while Rowan refused to rest so she practiced to repress her darkness with Max.

After they practiced awhile, Florian came, telling them that Hedy had some answer. Turned out the potion on the feather was a resurrecting spell but she was not sure how to counter it and the monster couldn't be kill without the counter-spell so they needed to ask Connor. Right when they were about to leave, Florian came again, screaming murder in Grassmarket and this time, there was a lot of feathers around the body, meaning there might be more than one monster. Rowan tried to use the psychometros potion on it again and found that they were recently in a mountain in the sea, on a church on top. so Ana would investigate it while Rowan went to visit Connor.

Connor said that the counter spell was hard to make and one of the rarest ingredient was in the middle of Swiss Alps, somewhere in a lab in a supernatural city called Interhorn but it was accessible only by a train. It was a six hour ride but full of danger and the worst was when they got attacked by abominable snowman, but of course Rowan easily killed it. When they arrived, the security was very strict and one of the guard planned to interrogate them, but they easily got knocked him out and escaped. they found the building, use some glamour spell after they knocked out some leaving scientist, found the lab, got the flower, and was about to escape when they sounded the alarm and the whole guard chased after them. They went to the train station and teleported back to the Protectorate.

Hedy immediately took the flower to make the potion and the rest of the member met in the round room to strategize and prepare for an attack. they went to the island, the other PITs member along with Max and Lachlan attacked the demons while Rowan rode on Ana's crow form's back and fight one of the bird while Bree distracted the other. She managed to get the potion into both of them and they turned into women who was very angry and tried to bowl Rowan (who fell from the sky into the sea) with waves.

At that moment, Rowan felt the darkness within her receded and she gained new power over water, overpowering the withes' wave, and drove them off until they ran away. Of course they won the fight and again, none of their friend died. They checked around the building but it was full of greek inscription that they couldn't decipher. so they just celebrated for now. Oh, and it was Jude who had been secretly sending Rowan a letter to prevent murder and robbery.

Double thumbs up

Really enjoyed the struggles Rowan faced, trying so hard to fit in when you don't feel you do is so relatable. Her character develops and deepens as you get further into the book, Linsey creates such a great journey for her and her sisters, some lovely twists and as always cliff hangers that force you, the reader, to eagerly continue the journey. I'm keen to see how her character grows, to find out if there's romance in store, for more powers and find out which God's these will come from, and lastly learn more about her furry friends

Overall another one of Linsey 's great fantasy books, always leaves a craving to get started on the next book

I could assume that if you’re reading Gods of Magic, the first book in the Gifts of the Dragon: The Amazon series, you’re a regular reader of the Dragons Gift series and have already read the first five series. If not, even though this book can be read as a standalone I would suggest you first read The Valkyrie and The Druid series before starting this series. Those two series detailing the journey of Bree and Ana, the triplet sisters of the heroine of this series Rowan, journeys to dragongodhood. The Valkyrie in particular will give you a greater appreciation of both the sisters background and Rowan’s story. Also, be aware that each series is five books long and each book ends in a cliffhanger until the fifth book where the heroine reaches her full powers and defeats the evil confronting her and threatening the world. No doubt Rowan’s story will follow the same format as the other five series.
In this first book in Rowan’s series its been six months since her sisters rescued her from her five years of captivity by the now dead Rebel Gods. Even though she hasn’t recovered her root magical power, she’s beginning training at the Magical Academy, (sort of an FBI like training program) for the Undercover Protectorate. If she fails to complete her training, she cannot join her sisters as part of The Undercover Protectorate. I’m not really sure why it’s called the Undercover Protectorate since they don’t try to keep its existence a secret from anyone magical? As the story opens Rowan is in The Vaults, a place of sometimes dark magic under the castle in Edenborough. Rowan has a couple of secrets she hasn’t shared even with her sisters. One is that she’s been receiving notes of crimes that might occur in The Vaults so that she can intercede and prevent them. The bigger secret is that she is finding herself drawn more and more to The Vaults and its dark magic. As it turns out because the Rebel Gods had used her as a conduit for their dark magic and evil deeds, even though they are now dead, and even though Rowan hasn’t been able to access any of her old magic since her recovery, seeds of the dark magic of the Rebel Gods seem to remain in her and are growing. Much of the first book is based around Rowan trying to get control over this dark magic. As with the other series in the first book Rowan meets the man who will eventually become her love interest. That person in this story is Maximus a powerful demigod. Just like Cade and Lachlan before him, Maximus is incredibly powerful, incredibly handsome and the attraction meter between him and Rowan when they first see each other is off the charts. But Maximus is a contract worker for the Order of Magica that governs the magical beings in the world and Rowan fears Maximus because of the dark magic within her, will turn her in to them and she’ll be imprisoned. As we learned with the Firesouls in the first three series the Order doesn’t wait until magicals they suspect could be dangerous actually do something wrong before slapping them in prison. Ironically Maximus has been hired by Jude one of the leaders of the Protectorate, specifically to help Rowan with her fighting skills because she doesn’t have any magical powers that Jude at least is aware of. After watching Rowan use dark magic to disintegrate a demon, Maximus knows better. So of course Jude teams up Rowan and Maximus to help solve a series of grizzly murders taking place in the magical neighborhood in Edenborough known as The Grassmarket. During the story as they work together the attraction between them grows as they begin to trust one another. Along the way Rowan picks up her three familiars a trio of oddly charming animals led by a racoon named Romeo. The appearance of the familiars is the first hint that Rowan is about to come into her dragongod powers. By the end of the story Rowan has received one of her dragongod powers, identified the enemy she will be battling throughout the series and had her first brain scrambling, knee weakening kiss with Maximus. In between she and Maximus have met many challenges, defeated several magical monsters and with the help of her sisters and other members of the Protectorate had her first battle with her unnamed enemy. The number of deadly monsters and challenges these sisters meet and overcome in a day is just dizzying but it's all part of the fun.

Gods of Magic (Dragon’s Gift: The Amazon Book 1) is book 26 of the Dragon’s Gift series as a whole–a series which is divided up into five-book increments, each of which centers upon a particular young woman as main character. When I bemoan how formulaic the series is, I mean that each five-book series is constructed almost identically, and each book within each series is also constructed similarly. For instance, all six young women have had matching love interests show up at the beginning of book one of their sub-series: a bulked man who is physically and magically super-powerful, similar in temperament, devastatingly handsome, and wealthy beyond imagining. In the last three sub-series, each sister (Bree, Ana, Rowan) has their own three-critter band of sidekicks (the Pugs of Destruction, the Cats of Chaos, and the Menacing Menagerie). Each main character has a Favorite Food and a Favorite Drink, as though the author filled out character questionnaires for each main character and then felt the need to include the same details from each.

Each one taken separately is wonderful–Linsey Hall executes these things quite well. The various critter sidekicks have a ton of personality and they’re wonderful to have on hand. But it’s still frustrating to be able to predict nearly everything that’s going to happen in these books. And it does harm the willing suspension of disbelief, even in a series so fantastical that there’s already a lot of disbelief being suspended. However, it is that wonderful execution that makes these books worth reading. Especially since in many ways it’s a sort of comfort-read series, and when you want a comfort read you often want to know what you’re getting into. It’s up to you to decide how this dichotomy affects your likelihood of enjoying these books.

I enjoyed this installment. Rowan is an interesting character, as is Maximus. The book continues its predecessors’ tradition of depicting strong female characters with respectful love interests, and I do appreciate that. The Menacing Menagerie–Romeo the raccoon, Poppy the possum, and Eloise the badger–are delightfully adorable as Rowan’s new sidekicks, even though I prefer the Cats of Chaos. Rowan and Maximus end up having to infiltrate a magical research corporation in order to get an ingredient for the potion they need, which makes for some excellent stealth and escape sequences. Also, since Rowan doesn’t have access to her own magic she’s becoming quite the potions expert, which is a nice detail and allows for some extra variety in their approaches to their trials and tribulations. I was a bit disappointed by the quick explanation for the mysterious notes Rowan’s been getting; it hand-waves the question of how the sender knew various crimes were going to happen.

This book is an odd mix of the super predictable if you’ve read the rest of the series (overall structure), and the somewhat new and unusual (how Rowan’s magic is working, and the magical research company). Definitely worth it if you’ve been enjoying the series so far.

Gods of Magic Dragons Gift: the Amazon Book 1

Linsey Hall

Rowan Blackwood had watched her two sisters, Bree and Ana, successfully navigate the Undercover Protectorate’s Academy of Magic, while successfully working through obstacles and gaining their Dragon God powers and the respect of the community. They even found their Soul Mates, Cade and Lachlan, while doing so, AND rescued her from the Rebels Gods. But now its Rowans turn to train, and she’s not so sure she will make it through. You see, she’s lost her magic, and she’s not sure she will ever recover it!

Rowan: A while back I started getting these dark, evil, feelings. I actually feel better down in the Vaults. I come down here to get away and chill. Bree, being the sister she is, just had to stick her nose in! Now we are down here, watching this dark being creating mayhem before our eyes. Why ME! Why do the demons say I am one of THEM! Say it is not so!

So begins the story of Rowan, we really don’t know much about her. But I get the feeling we are going to find out. And who the heck is this Maximus guy? Is he a gladiator, a magician, a shifter? All we do know is he can kick butt with the best of them, and I am so glad he is on OUR side!!

Well the scenes have been set, story is written and Linsey has turned over to her readers another fantastic story of Magic and Mayhem featuring a kick-butt heroine and some mighty fine associates to help her bring back the peace. Now its up to you! Personally, I can’t wait for another installment!

I was given and ARC but the Review is all mine and freely given

My Favorite In This Universe

Out of Bree & Ana's stories (both sets I loved) I think Rowan's will be my favorite. This first story was one of my favorite's hands down! Rowan has had to overcome more than her sisters, & listening to her inner monologue was interesting. I like how she refused to wallow in self-pity, instead choosing to focus on potions, fighting, parkour, etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing how she overcomes *****SPOILERS****** the darkness that isn't hers. That storyline gives this book & series another layer that the others didn't have & perhaps a chance for all three sisters to battle another unknown level of Rebel Gods. Or maybe it's just to show that everyone has both darkness & light in them. We haven't really seen that since Cass's story with the lightning firesoul & her personal battle and the both the Null & Del.

So why 4 stars? Anyone really familiar with my reviews knows I rarely give 5 stars-Hunger Games Trilogy, several by Amanda M. Lee, a few others. 5 stars has to cause me to really think about the book for days/weeks after I've read it (and I read 15-20 books a week). Or it has to make me laugh so hard and be so well developed that it's like going home to visit good friends. Anyone else would give this a 5 stars, and I might reevaluate after several days.

Regardless, get into this series you won't regret it. I'd start at the beginning with Cass's story, or if you want to skip that start with Bree's.
Ms. Hall is one of my favorite authors and a great way to pass an hour or so!

This plot was just...meh. Nothing really happened. There really weren't any high stakes. They always had an out. It made it very boring and around 50% into the book I was like...yeah, I already know everything's going to be fine. Because that's the kind of book this was. And while this is a great read for some people, this was extremely boring to me.

Rowan just had very convenient dark magic to get them out of bad situations and tended to always take charge of things. This is great and all, but it's like we totally forgot the dynamics - she's the student, Max-y Max is supposed to be the teacher, and the big and bad demigod. Instead, he's...useless. He just goes along with all of her plans like a lovesick puppy, almost never adding anything unless she asks him. Don't get me wrong, I love a planning badass female lead, but it's like the author conveniently threw out these dynamics of teacher/student and just made her a full-fledged member, even though at the end of the book she still isn't a full member or whatever even though they make her do all of the work. Like, what?

Maximus (is that spelled right? he just really didn't make any impact lol) was 2-D eye candy with no depth. I mean, he told her his darkest secret or whatever, but I still don't know the guy at all. His personality was like a wooden board. I don't get why Rowan was attracted to him other than this "undeniable pull" every MC seems to have towards the hottest guy in the room.

She doesn't even know what she's doing by the end of the book. Me either, girl, me either.

I honestly don't get why this has a high rating.
Ok good points first, the author can write in a way that doesn't make me cringe. She has a storyline with potential but it's all so fast. All just so easy. It starts the night before she joins and then pretty much her first day she's selected and like 100 things happen to her in the next 24 hours all of which she defeats/escapes so very very easily and quickly. I don't have time to care. Every relationship or story is all just so fast. I could have dropped the book at any point and not cared about a single person or story line. I think as the author becomes more experienced she'll learn to slow it down so her readers can have enough of an attachment to care. If she learns to have the action happen at a pace where we have time to absorb, it has a lot of potential. As it stands i read it and think, yep of course she had the perfect portion. Of course she hit he mark first time , of course she escaped within seconds, of course pretty much everything was just easy. Maybe a bit more depth to the challenges they face would strengthen it. I get that it's young adult but even early teens are used to more depth to their characters and storylines than this. However the author has potential, the way she writes is quite good. It's just the depth she needs to develop. It was free on kindle unlimited so i find most of those books still very amateur.

Rowan’s turn!

I have been working my way through Linsey Hall’s dragon’s gift series, so if you’re unaware, this is the third part of the dragon god series (chronologically you should read Bree’s and Ana’s stories first), which come after the Fire Soul series (Cass, Del, and Nix). I really like the books. They are well written with some humor and I like the focus on sisterhood and friendship. The heroines always use their own wits and talents and don’t make idiotic mistakes that lead to them perpetually being rescued by others. They aren’t flawless and they learn as they go, but they’re capable, competent adults and the love interests are definitely supporting characters. There also isn’t any graphic sex or violence. The books are a little formulaic. Several of the male leads look like fallen angels and I doubt I could pick any of them out of a lineup based on physical descriptions alone. But the stories are fun and interesting and I enjoy seeing what the characters are up to next.

I really like Rowan. She’s more complicated than the other heroines because of her past. While other heroines have been kidnapped, she struggles with her morality more and it makes her interesting. I like her pairing with Maximus and they play well off each other. I’m looking forward reading the rest of this series.

I just totally (addictively) binge read Gods of Magic and Hunt for Magic, the first two books of Linsey Hall’s Dragon's Gift: The Amazon series. Here’s the Cliff’s Notes summary: wow (just wow). I totally adored Rowan, demon touched through no fault of her own but still a good person though she needs to hide that she’s filled with dark, deadly magic lest she be locked away with the key thrown out. Maximus, her “leathally sexy gladiator” is also ideally crafted. Add in two fantastic - and well written - plots (which I’m not going to summarize as the publisher’s blurb does a good job without spoiling anything) filled with action, thrills, adventure, danger, a hint of romance to be (thanks Maximus) and a dash of comedy (courtesy of three great animal sidekicks Romeo the raccoon, Poppy the possum and Eloise the badger), and a fantastic supporting cast, and it’s no wonder I was so actively sucked in. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - each of these books definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each book is most definitely “one to read”, and it is easy to highly recommend both of them. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Finally the story of the sister held in captivity and freed.
Honestly it feels good to know that the freed sister isn't evil, in-fact is very brave, full of life and ready to assimilate to the surroundings. This book tells you the story of Rowan and how she strives hard to stay in the academy in-spite of feeling like an outsider all the time.
The female lead has spunk and it takes her a long way in the story. I like the sisters bond they have and things like petty jealousy and bitterness doesn't seem to come in between them. They are supportive and always there for each other.
The story moves at brisk pace and keeps you wanting to read more. I can't wait to see how the powers emerge in Rowan and how they merge with her existing powers.
The story between Rowan and Maximus (the demigod) seems to be moving beyond the point of attraction but we will have to wait and see how it panes out in the coming books.
Honestly, I am rooting for them as our Rowan needs a bit of love in her life after the childhood she had.
This was a good read, and just so you know, this can be read as standalone, but it would give you a back-story if you read the previous books too.

With Rowan having no powers, hand to hand combat is her strongest skill along with being a fantastic potion mage. Her instincts are leading towards something and trusting them is the only thing she knows. When people start turning up dead and torn to shreds, she can sense that it is connected to her somehow. The darkness she feels growing within her, pulls her forward and she has no choice but to follow. Fortunately the Protectorate and her sisters agree with her instincts and allow her to pursue them as long as she is accompanied by Maximus, a Roman warrior who also happens to be her personal teacher, signed on by the Protectorate to train her.

This book is quite fast paced as compared to the other books because of Rowan's nature. She's willing to take risks and do whatever it takes to gain her objective since she spent half a decade in captivity by the Rebel Gods. So along with the action you will also find passion because Rowan tends to live in the moment.

Fantastic!

This was a chance buy for me and it turned out to be such a fantastic, wonderful, brilliant and enjoyable book, I can't wait to read the rest!

If you like Nuttall, Carpenter, Lackey, even Pierce, then this is the book for you!

This series is about the youngest magical sister of 3 and while it reads very well alone, I sense it will become an even more finely nuanced story having read the previous sisters stories.

In this, book one, we meet our scrappy, but kicking, black wearing heroine as she seeks to fit in, without magic in a place full of magicians. She also seeks magic, that of her own magic stolen and that to which her bloodline entitles her, along the way meeting her animal side kicks.

No cute puppies nor winged kitties, but a mind talking, trash eating raccoon called Romeo whom only she can hear, and his badger and possum friends, and a hot, hunky, all powerful roman gladiator who led a revolt, only to be pushed forwards in time by a Roman God, with only 5 years acclimatisation in the here and now!
A must read!

So very good. Linsey Hall is just amazing in her ability to create places in such a way that they come to life. From the Protectorate, to the city to the Amazon and the Switzerland and of course a brief trip to Magic Bend, she takes her readers on wonderful journeys. In one day I went to the Amazonian Jungle (El Dorado no less) Oregon, Scotland and Switzerland and a remote island that isn't on any map. Best of all I didn't have to deal with any airports!

Her characters are so endearing I can't help but root for them and want the best things to happen to them. This little series is going to take us on many wild adventures as Rowan discovers her powers and eventually comes face-to-face with the evil that enslaved her before. Having read all of the other books in this Dragon's Gift series, I'm expecting her to win with the help of her friends, her sisters and a demigod who is sure to become the special man in her life at some point. She will have much to face from her past and have to overcome it all. I'm so glad I'll be able to take this journey with her.

Meh. The worldbuilding was lacking. The novel just kind of dumped you into the middle of things. There MUST have been earlier novels, and I felt like I was missing a LOT of info the whole book. The action was fast and furious, and the dialogue was decent. Overall, just an okay read. I'm not really intrigued enough to read the next book in the series, and this is a direct result to the lack of backstory. Because there was no real history or backstory provided beyond the basic "she was held captive and forced to do evil to her sisters and now she has no magic" redundant words, I really couldn't care less what happens to this girl. My favorite part of the novel was her animal sidekicks and their presence was quite minimal. Too many cliched observations - e.g., when you are fighting in the moonlight, how can you know whether the person has a grey tinge to their face? I'm over it.

I couldn’t finish this. I got to 65% and was just done with it. It’s my first book by this author and in the series and it seems you probably REALLY HAVE TO read ALLLLLL the books to understand everything that’s being referred to. It leaves a lot unexplained, although the storyline itself seems able to be read alone with only some backstory missing.

I’d be perfectly fine with that and with reading all the books that came before it if this book was actually any good. It’s not. There is way too much action and it’s easily solved. So you’re just jumping from one place to the next to the next with this problem cropping up, being solved quickly, then the next one popping up immediately. It’s really boring and lacks depth or interest.

Not too sure. It was an easy read and I liked quite a few aspects of the series. But for me there wasn't enough depth.
A lot of problems were solved too easily, like people just being there and helping Rowan and Maximus. I read the first books of the series that had Bree as the MC and I didn't enjoy these as much as I thought I would because of the same problems.
Because Rowan has no magic (in the beginning), I thought there would be more character building and more depth, but unfortunately there wasn't.
So I think I won't continue with this series.

It is still well written and a fast read, with a heroin that knows what she is doing, definitely plus points for that. So 3 Stars from me.

This book was sadly disappointing. I actually struggled to get through it even though the author started well with two main characters with very interesting and challenging backgrounds. But then the story just really didn't do anything. It went from scene to scene with monster battles and plot continuing, but it just didn't seem to do anything. I kept trying to figure out what it lacked- the feelings were just words, even though she described them. There was lots of action, but it wasn't captivating. And really, there was very little character development- the same thoughts and feelings were being expressed at the beginning as well as at the end. So I'm afraid I just don't like this author's style or something. Unfortunately, not even intrigued enough to read the rest of the series.

Linsey Hall conquers more magic in her Gods of Magic (Dragon’s Gift: The Amazon Book 1)

Rowen is waiting, not patiently, to complete her schooling and join her sisters as part of the Protectorate. Her problem? The evil that she feels deep down inside her. The darkness that she has lived with since she was kidnapped.

What makes these stories amazing? The love and loyalty that are formed as the sisters work together with their men, and Rowan may have found a gladiator to win her heart.

Linsey is superb at creating such magical realms that provide pure pleasure and sparks of joy, that we anxiously await each book she blesses us with.

Wow!

This book was by far my favorite in the trilogy about these sisters! Rowan's story did not disappoint me one bit! With every turn of the page I was more in love with her character and her story. I was not that big of a fan of her in the beginning and in this book, I fell in love with her! To be honest, I took me days to read the book because I just didn't like her but once I sat and started it took me a day! She is a woman that has overcome so much...a survivor and a fighter with such spirit and humor that it's admirable and Lindsey has written a great story I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Awesome! With only her potions to work with, how is Rowan going to fit in? What is this new magic inside of her, dark and unwanted? Will she be able to control it?
These were the questions that lurked in my head as I read through. Then there's tall, dark and handsome gladiator Maximus, working for the Order and seeing her magic in use?
Not only was this a wild ride of awesome adventure, let's not forget The Menacing Managerie. Where do they get all this great help?
From Linsey Hall, that's who!
Another spectacular book from my favorite Author. Every adventure is like a Grrl's best dream. (YES, I spelt it that way on purpose)
Way to go again... now... off to the next book!

Now it's Rowan's turn to learn about herself and to fight evil

Rowan's partner on this adventure is Maximus who is the demigod himself. They have to find out who is committing the murders and to stop them. They they search high and low and follow clues through much danger and finally come up with some answers. They're up against beasts in this adventure huge feathered beast that love to devour people. They have to go to the Swiss Alps to find the rare flower that can be used in the counter potion to make them benign. Everything goes well until they go to leave the lab when they are chased by every guard in the place.

Amazing start to the new edition to the Dragon's Gift series and I love that I finally, FINALLY get to get into Rowan's head and get her perspective on everything that went on with her in the past and how she's dealing with everything now. Rowan is such a strong character, she's faced so much pain and hardship after being used by the Rebel Gods, and having her power taken and used against her sisters but now she has taken back control... or has she? There is a new evil in town and to add to this situation Rowan has discovered a new power that doesn't belong and it's not one she wants.
