Red Dragon--4 stars.
The Silence of the Lambs--5 stars.
Hannibal--3,5 stars.
Hannibal Rising--3 stars.

After watching the film adaptation of the silence of the lambs, I needed to read the novel also.
And so the complete series is worth the money, cause you get the whole picture...

Needles to say that the best instalment is still the silence of the lambs, a masterwork!!!
I did enjoy it...

And Hannibal Lecter is much better than Freddy Krueger or Michael Myers...
If you love dark thrillers and inteligent horror, then go for it!!!

Psichiatra, omicida, serial killer e cannibale.

Red Dragon: A disturbing serial killer case forces psychological consultant Will Graham back to the FBI after a traumatic injury suffered while unmasking the vicious psychopath, Dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lector.

Thomas Harris' most intriguing character enters stage left in this novel, playing second fiddle to the desperate hunt to catch the main killer. And yet, it is Kector who dominates and controls the novel, moving the various characters around the board in a twisted game of chess.

After reading Red Dragon , the prequel to this book, in the late summer, I was a bit disappointed. Red Dragon was not such the great, thrilling book I expected it to be. So reading The Silence of the Lambs began as a challenge. I did it mostly for completism and I'm glad my initial stand to the book was bad, because I could enjoy it even more.
The Silence of the Lambs is a great and thrilling book. It is fats to read, keeps the tension high throughout the book and after you have finished it, you feel not disappointed. Clearly, this is the masterwork of the thriller which I expected.
Clarice Starling is, even though the arquetypical rookie, an interesting character with its internal conflicts and though processes. Impulsive, naive and unexperienced, we follow Clarice as she matures in the FBI and blooms as the agent she is ment to be. The killer is a curious and unfolding character. But the character which steals the main stage is Lecter; oh my God, Dr. Lecter. Well written, magnetic but distant, Harris manages to write the legendary villain we ought to see in action; he created the mythos of Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
So, finishing my review, the Silence of the Lambs is the masterwork of the thriller genre later immortalized by Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins you expect it to be. Fast and tens, any thriller and horro genre reader will enjoy ravaging through the pages of the book and will feel satisfied with its choice. Do not judge this book by its prequel; this is the good one.
And finally, the lambs are silent.

I've finally got around to reading and logging this entire series, having been meaning to read the whole thing for some years now. Hannibal is I think my favourite of the four books; it's certainly the one I've read most often over the years. Red Dragon, which I'd never read before a couple of weeks ago, I think, is a close second. They both got four stars from me, while the other two books only got three. I still liked them, just not as much.

There are some great characters here. Hannibal, of course, and Clarice Starling. But there's also the minor characters, and Harris has a great facility, in particular, for nasty little bottom feeders such as Paul Krendler and Freddy Lounds, who are antagonistic opportunists who are small and mean rather than the great horrific evil of the cannibal... and who get satisfyingly terrible ends anyway.

Anyway: that's one more series I've finally ticked off the tbr list. And a good creepy pleasure it was too!

Wanted to read this for the longest time and finally got round to doing it. I love the movies so knew I’d love the books… for me this is a classic and always will be. The only reason I give it a 4 star rating is because I struggled with the last book even though it was centred around Hannibal’s start in life but I just found it really slow and boring. So sadly I made it to 91% in the collection before DNF’ing it.

beautiful

It is odd to call a Lecter book beautiful, but in combination they are. I enjoyed them, the big twists and turns that made so much sense in the end, although the final book shocked and mesmerised me in equal parts.

I truly loved this series as a whole!!! It was unlike anything I have ever read before. It was incredible to enter such a deep and detailed world that Harris created. It was our "reality" but with shining a magnifying glass on the darker aspects of human nature. This is a perfect series to read if you enjoy psychological thrillers and love dark horror elements. It's definitely also worth a read if you've seen the movies, the books go into so much more detail than the movies!!!!
