Durjoy Datta's 10th book gets released on 20th June, 2014. I pre-ordered it on Flipkart and they delivered it to me before noon on its release day. Impressive! Durjoy Datta has been one author who is quite famous among girls, specially. Youth looks forward to his books because he has kept giving them hope that they'll find themselves having sex with the hottest girl of their college. But from last 2-3 books, Durjoy have totally refrained himself from writing sex. And since then, I have started finding his writing more creative and wondrous. His latest book "When Only Love Remains" comes after a very long time since his 9th release with a very elegant and peaceful cover page. Expectations has been rising since then. And now when I have kept the book aside after completing it, I am quite disappointed.

You must have heard books getting adapted into movies but this time, it's the other way around. "When Only Love Remains" is nothing but the scripted version of "Aashiqui 2". Yes. Believe me. Indian authors start their career from writing cheesy love stories to sexual flavors and then some sensible stories based on characterization of every protagonist. Durjoy Datta seems to be walking the road from the other end. He started with stories based on sex, then moved towards characterization and now, he is writing books that are "Aashiqui 2" of literature.

Book starts off well showing us the extreme passion Avanti has towards this singer who is a bit famous on Facebook and Youtube- Devrat. In the alternative chapters, author discusses Devrat's life which is how we portray singers and writers usually- depressive, lonely, drug-addicts and aggressive. Like Aashiqui-2, the singer Devrat also has a friend-cum-secretary, Sumit, who tries to bring him back to life while Devrat is not serious about his singing assignments. First half keeps discussing how Avanti dreams to meet him one day and go mad but finally, when it happens, it is so underwhelming that you are disappointed at the moment itself. Still you continue with the hope that there would be a great love story ahead. But alas!

The whole second half is based in hospital and there's not much after this. It's all about hopes, cries, prayers, wishes etc. Author tries hard to add excitement and life even in the second half by introducing characters but he couldn't do much with the plot that has no scope to entertain its readers. Similar stories have been published not once but infinite times. It's okay that author tries to display emotions of both the characters with each sentence that he writes but unfortunately, that does not increase the pace of the story. This plot is good for short story of 4000-5000 words but for a novel of 278 pages... A BIG NO!

Last few pages are what I was expecting from the whole book but that was the least I could have complained after getting what I needed throughout. That letter by Devrat is something that will make you cry. The scene when Devrat's thumb moves is another scene that will excite you. Because this is the only twist in the whole book. Also the scene when Avanti injects Devrat is an epic paragraph. The last 5-6 pages finally proves why this book is a copy of Aashiqui 2. But the only best thing about this book is that it ends up making its reader smile againt the way it kept trying right from second half to make them weep yet again and again. I will give this book 2/5. Because it is the same old story repeated again, this time by the author who we wait for.

Thanks.

i am really skeptical about how i feel about this book
first to say actually i was very much into durjoy books and then i bought this book.my pure feelings and suggstion about the book about the book :

firstly i would go to the cons part:
1. need lot of patience to read. (really lot of patience)
2. not very engaging and grasping page turner.
3. not much of the situations feels like you revolve around thelead roles.

now the pros:
1. very much pure at heart,no sex or nasty talk. everything is clean.
2. a deepinside feelings of a true lover.
3. an entirely different and brave attempt by the author.

verdict: The book is awesome in terms of real love and the purity in it. i myself being a reader who wants some funny moments and some sad moments and a good ending. this book lacks all those but stays with tragedy most part.so what i wanted to tell is i am not happy with this book personally but i shouldnt blame the author who made a very brave and purest attempt o all his books. if you dont want to stay weak and low heartened after reading a book DONT buy this book else its a very much good read if you are able to come out o that trance quickly .

My 1st Durjoy Datta book and most probably my last.

Romance stories have a charm in them. A well written romance with an interesting plot with lovable characters can be a joy to read. This story sadly lacked everything. Plot, characters and writing.

The story starts with first person narratives from two people in alternating chapters. The boy is a small time struggling singer with a rather miserable life. The girl (having demons of her own) is this singer's biggest fan having discovered him accidentally. The girl is literally madly in love with this guy whom she hasn't still met yet. The guy on the other hand doesn't even know she exists. Now one fine day they do meet and the love story just escalates exponentially
within a matter of 24 hours. There is a twist about 3 quarters into the book which supposedly sets up the whole impactful climax.

Now as far as the plot is concerned, it was just weak. The plot appears to be divided into 3 parts: before they meet, during their time together, after the twist. I was intrigued during the 1st part
of the book but the 2nd and 3rd part went downhill. I had a hard time imagining the things depicted to be actually happening in real life.

The plot appeared more and more fake and unbelievable as the story progressed. Coupled with that storyline are these characters that are poorly crafted by Datta. This girl, in the beginning is a scared being unable to even stand up for herself; she is suddenly this bold female who reeks with confidence in the second half; the 3rd half, she is some sort of perfect human being acting savior to many in need. The boy I did like almost throughout the book even after his drastic
decision close to the ending.

Finally, amateur writing. Just pure amateur writing. I cant't believe that this guy has written 9 books before this and all have been bestsellers. The narration felt like I was watching a TV-Serial rather than reading a book. There is a difference between how we speak and how we write. Dutta just mixed that up. He transforms into a full philosophical mode right at the end which I felt was well
written but that doesn't make up for the disastrous writing throughout.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Plot: 0.75/2
Characters: 0.25/1
Writing Style: 0.5/1
Climax: 0.25/1

My Rating: 1.75/5

‘Durjoy Dutta’, the name itself is enough to describe the awesomeness. I was eagerly waiting for the release of this book and the moment I saw it in Amazon, without any second thought I hit the buy button. I read it on the same day it got delivered.

This story, “When Only Love Remains” revolves around two characters;; Avanti, the female protagonist is a young girl who has big dreams but a simple way of living. No matter how much sad she is, only one voice is enough to bring back smile on her face. And that voice is of none but Devrat’s youtube songs/videos. Devrat, a passionate guitarist left out engineering so that he could make a career in music world. A break-up in the past made him even more passionate toward his only love; Guitar. Now in every girl he tries to search his lost love; Arundhanti.

Avanti being one of the fans of Devrat was desperately waiting to meet him. She was very much attracted towards his music and towards the person too. Finally when destiny brings them closer and they fall in love with each other. And when everything was going perfect for them, fate changed the track.

For the first few chapters, I found it really harder to keep turning the pages. Everything revolved around how the insanely beautiful girl obsesses over the almost-broke singer and how she ridiculously falls in love with him, when she learns that he is nothing like what she imagined him to be and I wondered if I should really go with my instinct which told me that there should be an intriguing turn of events.
And know what, my instinct never goes wrong. The moment Avanti learnt that Devrat is almost dead, the book got me hooked to it and although I knew I am old enough to not pine for imaginary people, I did and I was sobbing, literally!

Umm... I don't know really. I mean I didn't like Avanti. Or Devrat, for that matter. You see, I have little sympathy for self obsessed or people who wallow in self pity.
Also their relationship was too gooey for their own good.
I don't know, maybe all of this was too dramatic for my taste.
But I didn't hate the novel. For one, there were two quite lines which you can quote and I am a sucker for good quotes. (Yes, even 2 lines can make me not hate a book!) Also, I know what exactly happened or how, but by the end I couldn't muster the energy to hate it, so, just because...

My. God. I almost hated you like ALMOST!!!
Haven't I read the last 2 pages of the book I would have hated you so so so much!!!!

Finally, after a long time it felt like Durjoy's book. I don't know what happened but I didn't like much of his earlier books that got published before When only love remains like Someone like you & You were my crush.
(Also, as I own all his books so I'm reading them by publishing date)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This story is about a flawless, smart n a pretty girl(Avanti) and an alcoholic struggling singer(Devrat). Avanti loves to travel and because of that she joins indiago airlines and becomes a flight attendant.
Devrat is a boy 21 years old, is still in hope of his ex to come back who is soon to be married to someone else.
Avanti also has a ex but she's not in love him as he's abusive and very impatient.
Devrat doesn't have followers more than 100-200 and however one of them is Avanti. She loves his music. Whenever she is feeling low or something, she just have to plug into her earphones and listen to Devrat's songs.
You have to read the book to know what happens after they meet!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's a beautiful and an emotional journey of these two totally different people.

The best thing about this book is that it ends up making its reader smile.

*Spoiler alert*

When Avanti met Devrat I couldn't put the book down. All of a sudden it got so interesting.
On the other hand second half of the book was only about hope, hospital, cries and prayers.

This's the first book I read of Durjoy Datta, & I must tell you this was Good to read, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.

Tie your seatbelts and enjoy some glimpse of the story with me... This's the story of two people Avanti and Devrat.

Avanti was living with her nani in Dehradun after her mother death and she'd not shared good equation with her father. She wanted to become a flight attendant, for joining her job at Indiago Airlines she will have to move in Delhi, her Nani forced her to stay with her father in his house.

Devrat was a btech drop out boy and struggling singer who wanted to become big in his music career. He lived in Kolkata.

Both Avanti and Devrat were heart broken souls, Avanti had huge crush on Devrat. She was his big fan. His songs provided soothing her buried heart.

After joining flight attendant job Avanti gets a chance to travel in Kolkata and where does she meet with her Devrat, during his performance and that night they enjoyed their time like they were known each other and both felt some kind of peace in each other's company.

Next day Avanti goes back to Delhi but Devrat surprise her when he board in the same flight to travel with Avanti. In Delhi they spent good time and fall in love with each other.

They had been dating each other since one year, and for celebrating their first anniversary they plan to meet each other in Mumbai, because they were sharing a long distance relationship.

But destiny had planned something different for them, Devrat meet an accident and after this tragedy he has slipped into coma, but that was not the twist. For knowing the real twist of the story you will have to read this book.

Will he come out from coma? What will Avanti do without her Devrat?

Now story was full of surprises till the end. I love the last chapter of book so much. If romance is your favourite genre, you should read this once. The story's second half was better than the first.

The first thing I loved about this book, that was its title. I read whole book just to find how this title will justify the story of book. And at last it did well.

One thing I haven't liked in this book, whenever Avanti called Devrat... Puppy (it reminded me Dhadak movie famous dialogue...“Puppy, matlab kutte ka chhota bachcha?”)

It's the first book I have read of Durjoy and I must say its wonderful. It's a wonderful plot which revolves around Avanti, a flight attendant and Devrat, a struggling singer who wants to make it big. The first time they meet they gel very well and wish that this night never ends. First half of the story is ordinary like other love stories but the second half is interesting and teaches a great deal of hanging up on to our loved ones and clinging to the slightest ray of hope.

This is a simple love story of a fan girl who is madly in love with a not-so-famous singer who has puppy like eyes. In a way both of them helped each other in overcoming their own miseries and insecurities. The story also proves the fact that eventhough your life tears you apart and if there is a single person who trust you, there is a sure chance that you could come to a new life.

What would you do if you love someone but have never met them? What would happen if you finally get to meet them? What would you do if you find them better than you imagined them? What would you do when you get to know them?

All this and more is told and explained in Durjoy's book 'When Only Love Remains' which tells us the story of Avanti & Devrat. Avanti is an Air Hostess and Devrat is a singer. And when they finally meet sparks fly. The book is lovely and you live the moments of dread, hope, love and sadness. Durjoy is well on the way of becoming Nicholas Sparks what with killing main characters every time but this is still the book to go for. After the last book 'Till the last breath' this is again a sixer out of the stadium.

Durjoy is definitely one of my favorite Indian authors and I have bought all his books and he keeps on giving reasons to buy more of his books.

People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

This "book" was gifted to me by someone near and very dear to me. Although the name Durjoy Datta did ring warning bells in my mind (the IIT/IIM graduate turned writers like Chetan Bhagat and the ilk usually have that effect on the reader in me), I braved ahead to read this pathetic attempt at romantic fiction. This boy-meets-girl story introduces guy (Devrat) as a drunk imbecile (who also happens to be a wannabe rockstar) and the girl (Avanti) as a cyber-stalking air hostess with severe daddy issues. Their backstories did not evoke any sympathetic feelings in me. After an unbearably long series of facebooking, youtube commenting, fan mailing, they finally meet and end up spending the night together (i kid you not!). He helps her with her daddy problems, she helps him with his err...well, problems. And then tragedy strikes where one of them ends up in a hospital. This is where the story got beyond ridiculous. I cannot even... Never mind. The long and short of it is that, this excuse for a book was one of the worst I have ever read. It is Aashiqui 2 on steroids. The writing is terrible. The book was full of spelling and grammatical errors. I'm surprised the author is so popular. I am no book snob but novice readers really need to raise their standards and expectations in general book reading...if this can be called a book. Or maybe I am just past the age where I can enjoy utter nonsense like this.

P.S: Please do NOT gift this to a friend, boyfriend, girlfriend. Especially not to your newly wedded wife on your wedding day! Just saying.

Durjoy is pretty famous between the females and I can say that this one will not disappoint them. He was famous for his sex talks too but now he keeps him away from it which definitely going to disappoint the ‘Sex’ lovers. This book is pretty pure and talks about ‘True Love’ in it’s purest form.

Durjoy tries pretty bravely to take up an unusual setup to start the story and I personally loved that part. I felt gripped with the story till both the ‘lovers’ met for the first time. When I was lost to think what’s going to happen in the second half (and I was really expecting something great), I was left disappointed with the prolonged description of the story at hospital and that’s where I felt that the story is getting stretched a lot without any purpose.

There are two things about this novel which keeps the story alive. First, the portrayal of human’s best emotion, that is, love. Durjoy poured his heart over in this one. Every sentence talks about his brilliance in writing. And the second one is a character of Avanti’s father. A lost Mathematician who tries to connect with his daughter to show up his love for her. He was among the most lovable character made by Durjoy, ever.

If this one would be of around 100 pages less than the current length, than it would be one of the best novel by Durjoy. For hardcore ‘Love Story Lovers’ I would like to say, go and grab the book as soon as possible; you’ll love this one.

I liked Avanti’s father- the conversationally challenged shy mathematician who’s trying so hard to reconnect with his daughter. Though he has very few dialogues and scene presence, he’s one of my favorite characters in the book. The way he lies to spent some more time with Avanti, tries so hard not to stammer or be awkward while conversing with her- it’s cute and touching. He’s a deep person.

Devrat’s character for the first 100 pages of the book was like Jang Geun Suk’s character of the depressed, damaged musician; a Korean rock band’s lead singer, in the Korean Drama ‘Mary Stayed out all Night’. I found a bit of similarity with the movie Ashiqui2’s lead character too. Avanti herself was bubly, cute, passionate person- a lovable character.

I found certain events, certain follow ups of scenes quite illogical. But yes, as it was written in a bollywood filmy style, those were perhaps justified. The climax seemed forced and too sudden. And the rest of the story could be well guessed. For a moment I thought it would be dealing with Euthanasia but no. I liked hospital drama better in 'Till the last breath'. So, though I liked the character sketches, the plot was not that good. So it has more minus points than plus points. Hope DurjoyD would plan better for the plots next time.

Guys this book really awesome. juts finished it few days ago, i read other books of Durjoy Dutta but its different. Not so many sarcasm no many sex scenes, only thing he added is purely love. I just fall in love with two characters Avanti and Dev.

This is the story of two beautiful souls meeting and melding with eachother.

what a beautifull moment he potrayed when they meet with each other in bar after devrat perofrmance

but they went out from the bar, they spend a whole night with each other,

it beyond some words to describe the moments, i just want some moment what they had with each other.

After that story goes on.. and the tragedy happened when DEVRAT had an accident and went into comma for 8 month. the most hurtful situation. but ending was seriously very good.
I will definitely recommend this book to you guys, this love story contents some moments that make you happy sad and make you cry at the same time.

"When only love remains" is an intense romantic story which portrays the beauty of love and hope marvelously. It is often said that waiting is another name for love and this story captures the pain of waiting with magical deftness.This book is highly recommended to people who love reading beautiful love stories. It will make you smile, cry and fall in love. Definitely one of the best works of Durjoy Datta.

Its an indian book so of course there's no tooo much of romance but i liked the plot and story was well written

The end made me cry..😢

Many people don't take their lives seriously they don't know the value of life, for those people I recommend this book.

Those people who are always sad, thinking about stuff that you can't or don't have, they should read this.

I really like the way The author ended the book, Death isn't the answer for everything!

This book told me we must value our life and the ones we love
Its a cute romance 😍😁

the start do look kiddish...and sometimes I got bored while reading the same immature,silly lines again and again..but yes it is supposed to be like that-love. and then from the mid of the novel I can quite identify a lot of things similar which i have or many may have felt :)
I liked the way the novel ended...

The story is actually very simple and quite predictable as well. But there are certainly some portions which were really outstanding. More than the leads, the love between Avanti and her dad is conveyed beautifully..At the end of the book , Devrat's realization of meaning of life was really touching!! A good one time read..
