I have been reading this series since its beginning, and this is now book 4, and I must say that this was the book I enjoyed the most. Tabitha, the river witch, Lysander her human friend from the Iron Court and Fionn the leader of the Wild Hunt from the dark court of Queen Mabh are returning together to Tabitha’s village. She thinks she is returning to save her people from the fae however, she discovers that whilst she was away the people of the village had moved on. Now Ondine her grandmother was training other witches to work together to fight the fae whenever they attacked their village. The villagers were also all armed and had built sturdy boats to take to the river. Tabitha was still a loner and she thought to work her river magic on her own but what her village was facing would call for her to be able to work with the rest of Ondine’s coven. Mabh was angry and she had sent the Wild hunt to get Fionn back to her court. Could Tabitha and her river power save her village and keep Mabh from taking Fionn back? Can Tabitha accept to work with Brigit, her one time enemy, and the others to save Lysander’s life and bring back Lavender their friend? In her pride she had made many mistakes, can she redeem herself now? For me this has been the most thrilling book yet, returning to the village and reading about the Wild Hunt and Mabh and her dark court gives us a different picture of the real face of faerie. Tabitha is growing stronger as the river witch and I feel that Helena Rookwood is weaving a stronger magical wand in the writing of this magnificent series with each book she publishes!
