Animus #3

Death Match

Rate this book
What happens if the final for your freshman year is to take the hardest, deadliest test the Nexus Academy has devised for your skill classification?

And then open it up for player-vs-player action where even your partners can gain skill points for stabbing you in the back?

It is time for Kaiden to grow up a little and play with a larger team to accomplish a three-peat. The only problem?

The test has been engineered to kill the players.

What's a little blood between friends?

Who is Kaiden going to be teamed with? Which faculty will be betting on that team? Will it be Sasha, or will someone yank his best opportunity away from him?

Exactly what will Sasha do to acquire the team to beat?

Finally, can Kaiden accomplish something only hinted about the history of the Nexus Academy?

You don't become the best of the best by staying alive. In the Animus, you are closer to perfection with each death you suffer.

Kaiden Jericho would rather skip the death part, thank-you-very-much.

In Deathmatch, Kaiden has to figure out how best to work with multiple team members.

Join Kaiden as he learns about Nexus Academy, the Animus, and the opportunities that one fight have brought him. Never has helping someone benefitted him so much.

The future is looking bright, except for the pain.

Every series that MA writes, the further in you read the more mindless chatter we have to suffer

At this point I would be happy to read single novels rather than the series that go on and on and on and never culminate into proper endings.

His characters always devolve into idiotic mindless chatter between one another. It’s like listening to a mob of mindless bimbos chatter while chewing gum. Let’s not forget the endless looping of blathering childish insults that are thrown in like over spiced food.

Cmon dude, you have great ideas but you really could do with less chuff and chattel. It’s like stopping at McDonalds for a burger instead of the fine restaurant for steak and potatoes that I was ‘headed to in the beginning’.

Death Match (Animus book 3) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

This conclusion to the first year at Nexus Academy and the way the students take part in a GameLit type of match, where extra points are given for actual deaths (whether on your opponents' team or your own) seems reminiscent of a cross between JK Rowling's Harry Potter Quidditch Matches and Hunger Games.
The characters have become more familiar over the previous two books in the trilogy and they (mostly) continue into the second trilogy which will be released in the fairly near future.
A family pairing of Joshua and Michael Anderle promises great things, with Kaiden Jericho's older Harry Potter-like MC and the progress and development of both characters and plot will prove a must for fans of GameLit, Hunger Games and Harry Potter. Watch this space!

Book three

Mistakes: I didn't find any. Since this is the mistakes thread of my review I will tell you one that I made, reading three of these books back to back. Doing this caused the MC's snark to go from being funny to at times seeming hateful and mean. So fellow readers, rest your brains!
Plot: DeathMatch! Really, plotlines for these books aren't complicated, and I don't think that they will be till the MC and friends leave the school.
Characters: The MC's snark came across as hateful and mean at times.

Excellent writing!

I read the first two books when they came out but then got caught up in a new magical world (Brownstone, Shay, Alison, and others!) and then when I came back it was fun to start over. (I’ve restarted the Gambit series 4 times.) Now I’ve got a couple more to read and the author has expanded his estimated book count! Looks like at least two more restarts I’ll happily do!

Good finish for year 1 at the Academy

There were several different sections to the story. A field trip to fight a Saurian, training sessions, and the big 3 man squad match over the last part of the book. I like the missions into the simulator. Self contained and related to games I found them more satisfying than long slogs in mmo land. Great read with ample amounts of explosions and cathartic mayhem.

Book three was really good

First three books were really good. Very entertaining and interesting characters and universe. Definitely want to read the next one but it is almost midnight...and must sleep but had to finish the book first. Note, do not start these too late in the evening or you will be sucked in and up later than you think. Definitely recommend this series, even if it causes lack of sleep. 😃

Not what I expected.

Well, I'm actually reading three books at the moment, so I have only now realized that these aren't actual books, but rather are video game scenarios. Not a bad thing, and explains the sad lack of any character development. My bad for not pre- reading. Lol! Not terrible, I'm just not a gamer so I find it shallow. I assume it's quite a good game? Anyway, I'm out, but good luck!

More!!!!

Need more. This book was a s good if not better than the previous books. And those were already great! Love the progression of the series. I kind of wish the books constituted more of a year per book, but that's probably just me being anxious and impatient for more lol. Keep up the great work.

Can’t wait for book 4

This was a great series to fall into. Kind of a mix between hogwarts and star troopers the Animus series keeps you interested with little to no downtime between the action.

Books 1-3 have covered the first year, so book 4 will likely contain some changes from the first 3 books. I am eagerly awaiting the release of book 4

Good Series, Good Book

Kaiden and crew are training and getting ready for the final test for the Initiates before they move to the next level. Imaginations run wild as it is known as the Death Match. I like the action, humor, and possible romance. The characters are solid, strong, and well integrated with each other. I look forward to the next book.

This should be a movie

I love the interactions between the characters and the slow but steady character development.

This is the kind of Scifi i like. Wouldn't mind a movie (or two or three) About this ragtag band of initiates. Also, Genos is a purple cinnamon roll and needs to be protected at all costs.

Wow

The books are good, great even, and the authors words at the end honestly may be the best part. The fun and relatable chat and feeling that’s put into it gives you the feeling of receiving a personal message from a friend after a particularly large gaming achievement. I love it, I love (him), and I definitely love these books. Keep on truckin!

Great series

I am enjoying this series. It’s different and engaging. The only thing I do not like is the use of the word “howdy”. That is not a southern term but more of a western cowboy term. I can see our main character using it but not other southerners. That’s it. A bit picky, I know. Sorry. The rest is all good.

Strong characters and equally strong story. Lots of good interaction with the chat as well as in interesting plot. I've enjoyed all the series so far and look forward to the next.

Good action, characters.

Another good one, but is it going to be like this for the rest of the stories? I want more character development, including Raza. And Chiro, I like her and her ability.

Another excellent read

Another worthy read as we see Kaiden push himself even more than ever before. Also loving how the larger character teams work out.
Hidden antagonists are also at work helping create a further back story.

Crazy Shooting, Tex!

No, really. In this installment we get to see how many varied targets and opportunities can be had for a Texas gunslinger. Our boy is still a pound of ego stuffed into an ounce of sense, but he’s getting there. With help. Lots of help. Recommended! (16+)

The characters are still very good in the stories. The action seems to be not written the same way and I have trouble following some of the action. I love teh characters, so I will continue reading the series.

Needs more variety

While the immersion of the story and LitRPG was better than the first book, the plot seemed to be rushed compared to the previous two books.
