When I started this series it had a lot of promise. I mean, who wouldn't like school life manga about a mystery club? It's less Scooby-Doo and more of a reading club who do their own crime scene role-play in their own club room. It had some unique characters and it references a lot of the mystery and detective stories and shows that I liked. Conan Doyle and Cumberbatch's turn in Sherlock references are hard to miss and entertaining. In fact, the Shirogane-senpai could stand in for the quirky Holmes with her own inimitable character.

I forgot what led me to discover this manga. I was looking at something entirely different, and somehow this popped up in the periphery. Some of the images of volume or chapter covers made it seem like there was a significant degree to which the mangaka intended to express a tights or legs fetish, and that was enough to draw my attention, I guess. (EDIT: I think it was because I was looking into Himegasaki Sakurako wa Kyoumo Fubin Kawaii!, another work by Yasuda, which I believe I was looking up because of a butts thread on /a/, but which seems to show tights/legs/feet stuff when Googling, so I'm thinking I wasn't wrong to accuse Yasuda of a fetish)
I started reading this manga with somewhat perverted intentions, and indeed the author seemed like he was supportive of such ideas, but over time the lewdness started to taper off a bit. Early chapters do feature some focus on Shirogane's tights-covered legs, but this is mostly to show us how much Toiri-kun is attracted to her. Otherwise, the manga plays out a lot like Tejina Senpai, only focusing on mystery tropes rather than stage magic. That is, Jiken Jaken! takes place in a rather mundane world, close enough to our own. Shirogane is fascinated by mystery stories, and Toiri-kun is fascinated by Shirogane, but any "mystery" in the manga is fabricated by Shirogane for her own amusement. She's started a school club for mystery fans, of which she was the only member for some time, having placed extremely high standards on who could join, with only Toiri-kun passing her interview process (this all happens before the actual manga begins). By the end of this volume, another girl, Yotsuna, who has a crush on Toiri-kun, is added to the club, out of Shirogane's mistaken belief that she (ie, Yotsuna) is an expert in the mystery genre. Shirogane's half-British distant cousin, Iris-chan, joins as a temporary member, not having impressed Shirogane enough to meet her standards for official membership. The volume is mostly about Shirogane putting Toiri-kun through made-up mystery scenarios while schooling him on various tropes, until Yotsuna and Iris-chan join, whereupon they are also drawn into Shirogane's obsession.
The manga's pretty funny, but never really "laugh out loud." It's mostly just passively entertaining. A lot of the funnier bits are Toiri-kun being cold toward Yotsuna while brazenly referencing his own love for Shirogane, or otherwise some of the funny faces Yotsuna might make when embarrassed. Personally, as I said above, I was drawn in my Shirogane's legs, and the manga is short enough that I think I can just read the rest of it for the same reason.

Shirogane's cute face when she thinks of Toiri-kun getting tricked...! Shirogane's embarrassed face when Yotsuna walks into the classroom...! Yotsuna's butt in the beginning of Chapter 10...! Shirogane in underwear on the Chapter 14 cover...! Shirogane's boobs hanging in her sundress in Chapter 15...!
