Paramedic Leanne Thomas works hard to be “one of the boys” at the fire station and on the mountain. What the guys don’t know is she keeps her inner girly-girl hidden from them. When gorgeous, rookie firefighter Christian Welton turns on the charm, Leanne shuts him down fast. She won’t risk her heart or her reputation by dating a younger man who is also a coworker.
Leanne intrigues Christian. After she rescues him off the mountain, he glimpses a softer, more vulnerable side to her tough-as-nails personality. Christian’s not looking for a relationship, yet he can’t deny his attraction. A surprise kiss under the mistletoe sparks a three-alarm fire, but something is holding her back.
Will Christian’s kisses break through Leanne’s tough exterior and melt her heart? Or will a dash of Christmas magic be required?

Firefighter Under The Mistletoe is a Harlequin Romance by Melissa McClone.
Christian Welton is a firefighter. On a climb with his cousin, his cousin becomes injured and they have to be rescued by the Oregon Mountain Rescue team. The first face he sees is Leanne. He has worked along side with Leanne because not only is she a volunteer with Mountain Rescue, she is also a paramedic. He was never happier to see her face.
Christian, though, has a reputation for being a heart breaker. He does not want a relationship. He wants to thank Leanne and the others in the rescue team for what they did for him and his cousin, Owen. So he volunteers to help Leanne with a big project to plan a town Christmas celebration. The more time he spends with Leanne, he feels more and more attracted to her, but he knows she wants more than he does.
Leanne Thomas has worked so hard to be accepted amongst the men she works with every day. But underneath the tough exterior, she is still a girly girl. As she watches the men around her fall in love, have children, and find their happily ever afters, she knows she wants that for herself. The more time she spends with Christian, she dares herself to hope that maybe he might be wanting those same things as well. One kiss under the mistletoe proves the chemistry is off the charts.
“She wasn’t looking for fun or a fling. She wanted forever.”
“Leanne wanted so much more. Too bad ‘more’ would never happen with a commitment phobe like Christian.”
Could there be enough ‘Christmas Magic’ in Hood Hamlet to show Christian that he can allow himself to fall in love? Will Leanne get her own happily ever after?
This was a wonderful story of a firefighter scared to death of relinquishing just a little bit of the control he holds over his own life and allowing someone else in. And of a woman who has lost so much in her life and has worked so hard to be accepted in the career she loves. There is still that empty spot, though, that only the right man can fill. Could Christian be that man?
As always, I love revisiting Hood Hamlet and it’s residents. This is also a very realistic glimpse into the lives of first responders and the sacrifices they make every day. Leanne and Christian give of themselves every day to those they help. It was so wonderful to see them find the happiness in each other they both deserve. Thanks, again, to Melissa McClone for another sweet and wonderful Christmas story. That darn mistletoe. You just never know where it might turn up and who might be waiting underneath it. Do you believe in Christmas Magic? I do!

I love how this story began, with the danger and rescue elements. Both of these lead characters are strong-willed, stubborn, and set in their ways, even if it is to their detriment. Paramedic, Leanne, tried hard (almost too hard) to be seen as “one of the guys” at the firehouse and as a member of OMSAR. Rookie firefighter, Christian, refuses to commit to anything in life – whether it be a job, a home, or a woman. Both have issues from the past that are not quite as resolved as they think. Because of this, there are a lot of bumps in their path to happiness. While the attraction and compatibility was evident, their foolish heads would not listen to their hearts and what they KNEW about one another. While I could have done with less of the drama, I was plenty happy to read updates on the other couples and enjoyed several of the new characters. Predictability was low. The conclusion is solid and satisfying. . Can't get enough of this series! Another great installment in the mountain rescue series. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Leanne and Christian are a memorable couple and although I don't think the characters needed to be quite so far apart in age (2 years would've worked), McClone certainly made it work.
Christian is a firefighter, and is intrigued by paramedic Leanne. She strives to be one of the guys, but would welcome a serious relationship. Christian, unfortunately, is a player. Will he decide to get serious, or will he break Leanne's heart?
Melissa McClone is known for her “Christmas Magic” themed books. A mountain hamlet filled with snow, handsome climbers, first responders or other residents who are never who they appear to be, women who thaw the heroes or visa versa, and the belief in the magic of the Christmas season combine to make wonderful holiday romances. I always look forward to these books but I anticipated Firefighter Under The Mistletoe even more because the heroine, a secondary character in previous books, finally gets her own love story.
A commitment-fearing fireman, Christian Welton, and Leanne Thomas, a paramedic who is trying to be “one of the guys” while longing for a home and family of her own, is an emotional tale whether previous books in the series have been read or not. An opening chapter kicking off with a mountain rescue of the hero BY the heroine, an age difference, hidden tragedies, the tension of working together as well as the protectiveness of the other fireman toward their little sister paramedic turns Firefighter Under The Mistletoe into a keeper to be read at least a few times before the holidays roll around.
I adored this book! It is a heartwarming, fun & emotional story. Leanne, grew up in Hood Hamlet. Her long time friends are on the OMSAR rescue team. Being on the rescue team, & working at the fire department, Leanne is treated like one of the guys. Christian, is a rookie firefighter. He is also an extremely hot looking guy, who avoids commitment at all costs. Leanne & Christian, are attracted to each other. But, she wants a relationship, not a one night stand. With it being close to Christmas, Leanne & Christian, work together on preparing for the toy drive & Christmas Magic Celebration. The more time they spend together, the more they've gotten to know each other, away for the station. Even thought Leanne & Christian shared a kiss, he's still avoiding relationships. Is there really Christmas Magic in Hood Hamlet? I loved everything about this story!!!
Do you believe in Christmas magic? Leanne and Christian's story is moving and heart-rending. Heroes in their everyday lives, paramedic and firefighter, whose attraction to one another is obvious but Christians fear of commitment may have cost him the love of his life. Can he fix it before it is too late? Maybe a little Christmas magic is in the air.......
I enjoy reading about the lives and loves in Hood Hamlet. Another great addition to the Mountain Rescue series. And look forward to the next in the series.
I was provided an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.
Such a touching story! From start to finish I was captivated. The heroine, Leanne, dealt with a horrible tragedy as a 9 year old child (I ugly cried when she revealed the past to the hero, Christian). She could have languished in the depths of despair, but pulled herself up and hid her emotions from her friends. Christian touched her heart and emotions like no one else had and was able to get past her barriers to her true self. The last scene (in a cemetery) was heart wrenching (another ugly cry), and heart warming. Excellent read.
I read this book in one sitting. I was completely swept away in the first chapter when Leanne rescues Christian and his cousin Owen after a climbing trip goes bad. Leanne and Christian work together in Hood Hamlet. She is a by the book paramedic and he's the rookie firefighter. Throw in that she's older than him, she has worked hard to be one of the guys and she won't admit that she does have feelings for him, it makes for a great story. Christian is from well to do family that has a winery. He's heart is being a firefighter not a wine maker.
I will admit that I have read Sean Hughes and Zoe Flynn's story (Christmas Magic on the Mountain) and the online story featuring Cocoa Marsh and Rex Billings (Snow Kissed Reunion-its on the Harlequin website) but I have not read Carly Bishop and Jake Porter's story Rescued by the Magic of Christmas. I plan on reading it within the next few weeks. Leanne has also been a secondary character in each of them so when I read that she was getting her own book, I was thrilled. I knew that Leanne would be a tough nut to crack but Christian was up to the task. From the moment the book opened to the moment that I shut it closed, I sighed, laughed and fell in love with both of them.
Ms. McClone has written a beautiful and emotional story of two people that are finding their way in the world and finding out where they belong in it. Its also the story of family and what defines a family and your place in a family.
Leanne and Christian have sizzling chemistry from the start and it only heats up during the story. Half the fun of a Harlequin Romance is the build up of chemistry through out the story and the gratifying HEA at the end. One thing about this series...will there be more? I love Hood Hamlet and the people that make up the town. Their journeys toward love and family never cease to amaze me.
I highly recommend each of the Hood Hamlet Christmas stories. I read mine in order but each stands alone.
Very good book. Leanne worked hard to be accepted as the only woman at the firehouse. Getting involved with a player like Christian was not what she wanted to do. But she is drawn to him like she hadn't been for anyone else. Christian had issues with the idea of settling down, thanks to family pressures that were put on his father. But he couldn't help his feelings for Leanne, and he wasn't sure if he could do anything about them. I really enjoyed seeing the teamwork of the rescue crew, both on the job and off. The whole community was great. I can't wait to read more Hood Hamlet books.
Enjoyed this book as well as the 2 first ones and hope that there will be another one to tell the stories of the others in the book :) Perfect for the Christmas spirit :)
Her Christmas Kiss, by Melissa McClone is book #3 in her wonderful Mountain Rescue Romance series. Leanne Thomas is the always-driven paramedic with the Hood Hamlet Fire and Rescue. She is also an integral member of OSMAR, saving people from deadly situations on Mount Hood. She constantly gives 110% in everything she does. She is viewed by most as incredibly successful. Even her fellow fireman and lifelong friend, Bill Paulson would agree. It’s all a well-constructed façade. A façade to hide the pain of the young girl who was the only survivor of a car wreck that robbed her of her entire family. They also don’t see the 18-year-old girl whose grandparents died before her high school graduation. And no one sees the lonely woman who sits at home, remembering her best friend, Nick Bishop, who died on Mt. Hood. She has no one to change her focus, or to hold her hand, or to hold her.
Christian Welton is the newest fireman at Hood Hamlet Fire and Rescue. He is new enough that everyone calls him “rookie”. He is definitely a lady’s man, but his one approach of Leanne is hot down with a colossal crash. Leanne has worked to hard to be “one of the guys” in HHF&R and OSMAR to let some younger Casanova screw it all up. Christian has his secrets too. He is an heir to the very successful Welton Winery, the business run by his grandfather like Rockefeller ran Standard Oil. The winery that ruined the life of Christian’s father, who died too early.
Maybe love isn’t blind, but all-seeing. They both know they need help, and they both consider the other as being helpful. Before long, thanks to the stubbornness of both characters, they begin to rely on each other. Their friends try to steer them apart, but the desire has ignited. Will Leanne decide to not be “one of the guys” where Christian is concerned? Will Christian not run away from one more romance, Leanne? Will they be allowed to claim a joint future together? Her Christmas Kiss, and the complete Mountain Rescue Romance series are great “must reads”!
wah baru pertama kali baca novel Harlequin yang wholesome. temanya christmas pula, bentar lagi nih. I'm looking for the other books in this series, but gonna read them in English.
suka banget sih karena ini tuh ga insta love. awalnya dijelasin klo mereka udah saling kenal selama setahun karena kerja bareng, attracted at first, tapi Christian merasa ditolak sama Leanne, jadi dia ga berani deketin lagi. Leanne malah demen banget, tapi dia tau klo Christian cuma cari buat main-main, ga mau hubungan serius.
makin lama makin gede lah attraction between them sampe akhirnya ciuman di bawah mistletoe.
I totally enjoyed reading Leanne and Christian’s story in Her Christmas Kiss by Melissa McClone, book three in the Mountain Rescue series. This is a heartwarming, sweet Christmas romance. Leanne Thomas, a paramedic in Hood Hamlet, has worked hard to be “one of the boys” at work and on the mountain, with her search and rescue squad. It started as a way for her to feel closer to the brothers she lost, along with her parents, in a car accident and then became habit. However, she keeps hidden, inside of her, the girly-girl she once was. Rookie firefighter Christian Welton was attracted to Leanne from the beginning, but especially after she rescued him off the mountain. Christian sees the softer side to Leanne and wonders what else she has hidden. Christian wasn’t looking for a relationship but he recognized the spark and attraction he had with Leanne. After an amazing surprise kiss under the mistletoe Leanne and Christian need to recognize the special chemistry they share. Or maybe the Christmas magic of Hood Hamlet will break through their stubbornness and provide a happy ever after for these two.
Ms. McClone wrote a wonderfully sweet and moving Christmas story that is not to be missed. This story is filled with fun dialogue, endearing and likeable characters and the magic of love. I highly recommend Her Christmas Kiss to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This heartwarming tale is set in a mountain hamlet where Christian Welton, twenty eight year old rookie firefighter has joined the team for about a year where Leanne Thomas, the thirty two year old paramedic is based. Leanne shut him down when Christian tried to ask her out as he has a reputation for being a player and not ready to settle down. She is looking for a steady relationship with the whole deal - marriage, a home and kids. Christian lands up helping her on a committee for fundraising for OMSAR (the search and rescue team) and they are forced to work together out of their normal station hours. The more time they spend together, the more they realise there are hidden depths in each other and their attraction grows more and more. Leanne is such a strong, independent, feisty lady that can take on any man but she has hidden her "girly" side to fit in with all the men she works with in her male dominated career, but Christian sees her softer side and likes her all the more. He has some strained family relations and Leanne gives him valuable advice which partly assists him to compromise with his family. Both characters were very likeable and endearing and I really enjoyed this clean story (no swearing, no sex). This book is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone story. I rate this story 4.25*.
When this book started out in a mountain rescue ( which should be obvious from the name), I was unsure of how Christmas-y it was going to be. I wanted Christmas vibes, not rescue vibes.
But it brings Christian and Leanne together. They already work together at the fire station. She is one of the guys, and she's actually the best of all of them. She thinks she is one of the guys, but in reality, she's their sister. To everyone but Christian.
Here's the rub for me. Christian is a player. The horrible break up with a girl in the beginning of December, so there is no Christmas together. Just yuck. I can't get on board with him. I keep thinking I would forget that, but the book keeps bringing it up over and over. Why do I want Leanne with him? Because his grandfather pressures him about the winery?
The only pass he gets is that Leanne obviously loves him. She lets him in. Not just into her home, which she does at Christmas, she also eventually lets him in on her secret. Which is a big deal. She has never really told anyone what happened.
And it feels like Christian having his redemption arc is the crux of the story. Blurgh.
Okay, in the spirit of Ebenezer Scrooge, I do like all of the little things that bring Christian to that moment of awakening. The Lele on the wind was honestly pretty magical.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT When rugged rookie firefighter Christian Welton meets paramedic Leanne Thomas, he’s drawn to the mystery beneath her tough exterior—and he’ll do whatever it takes to uncover her softer side. A surprise kiss under the mistletoe ignites undeniable sparks, but to win Leanne’s heart, Christian may need a touch of Christmas magic.
MY TAKE Christian is one of those guys who's all about having a good time but not getting serious about anything. Except choosing his own profession. His grandfather is a famous winery own and pushed Christian father into doing just what Grandpa said, and Christian refuses. He love being a firefighter. But he also kind of enjoys making his own wine in his own way.
Something I didn't like about Christian was his refusal to respect Leanne's statement that she doesn't do casual. After the kiss, he knew there were sparks between them but he didn't care enough about her not to push for more of them, even knowing he could hurt her in the process. Such a selfish jerk in this mentality.
Fortunately, as he volunteers with her on a Christmas toy drive (trying to get more kisses), he also gets to know her better. This begins a transformation for them, but him especially. Turns out there's a decent guy under there after all.
I have read this book which came out in 2018 about once or twice a year since then, (Which was named Firefighter Under the Mistletoe). This was my first Melissa book, and while this is number 3 of five, I have read all five of them but this one is my absolute favorite.
Leanne is a tough woman who works with a crew of men and is always surrounded by them and with her work as a paramedic, and the death of her parents at a younger age, she is fine with not being romantic with someone...or so she thinks.
Enter Christian and his gorgeousness. I want my own Christian and maybe one day I'll get one for Christmas.
Leanne and her story makes me want to be a paramedic but alas I hate blood and wounds so I live vicariously through her twice a year.
I love that she is just as tough as the boys, but she also has her feminine qualities even if the men don't see it.
I will forever love this book and it has been one of my favorite reads ever since I held it in my hands. Its a sweet romance and not too heavy despite all the loss she has been though.
I wish this couple was real and that I was friends with them, eve with Leanne's uptightness, they seem like such a cool couple.
All it took was a mountain rescue to get coworkers Leanne and Christian to really look below the surface of the other. Everyone at the fire station and on the OMSAR team see Leanne as just one of the guys, but Christian sees something more. Leanne doesn’t want to feel anything for her slightly younger coworker but how does she resist his honesty and interest...just when she realizes she needs more than work and climbing in her life. I very much like the pairing of Leanne and Christian, and learning about what drives them both and watching their friendship grow. One thing distracted me, though...the use of her last name, Thomas, by most of the male secondary characters, and by the 3rd person storytelling. It might have been less of an issue if her last name wasn’t a man’s first name! Regardless of this, I highly recommend this small town Christmas romance. Melissa McClone continues to knock it out of the park with her Mountain Rescue series!
Leanne Thomas is one of the guys with OMSAR and as a paramedic for Hood Hamlet. She works hard to be taken seriously and refuses to give up and cry. But ever since her family died in a car accident she’s always wanted a family of her to feel love and belonging again. Firefighter Christian Welton is running away from his grandfather’s expectations and he is afraid to let any women in close for fear he will settle down and turn into his father, who died young of a heart attack. They are attracted to each other, but will Christian see Leanne as a woman and grow up enough to commit to more than a few dates? Christian was immature in this book and I didn’t like him at times. I admired Leanne’s strength in adversity and wanted her to find her happily ever after, so I was cheering for her in this book.
What a fascinating story! Love can happen in the most unusual places to people who seem determined to resist it. This is the case with Leanne and Christian who work together at a small town fire station. Leanne Thomas is a paramedic and Christian Welton is a new firefighter. The story happens in the winter shortly before Christmas and much of what happens is in the snow...and on the mountain where they live. Snowshoeing, skiing, you name it and they do it. The firefighters are one big, happy family. And this is part of the problem. How can you fall in love with someone in your family? There are lots of happenings that bring this couple together, but they both seem to want something totally different. So be prepared for ups and downs in the story, but never give up on this couple!
Loved this story with a little bit of Christmas magic. Leanne, is a paramedic and just wants to be one the guys and is looking for her forever guy. Christian, is a younger rookie firefighter will do anything to change Leanne's mind. Christian is a player but he might find out Leanne is so much more.
This was so such a sweet Christmas story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I have such a soft heart for paramedics and firefighters, since I married one. This story was well told on what they go through. My heart goes out to Leanne with what she went through as a little girl. A perfect read for this holiday season.
This romantic story will fill your heart with Christmas magic as you read it. It was so nice to see Leanne Thomas get her own book. She works for the fire department and for the Oregon Search and Rescue team. She is such a strong, tough character but underneath that facade is a woman yearning to be the little girl she used to be a long time ago. I really enjoyed her story and learning about her background. She wants what we all want, to find love and be loved back and the sparks will fly when she and Christian have to work together. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Always enjoy when I come across a Christmas story with a different twist. This involves a paramedic rescue team that comes across injured and lost skiers in a famous but dangerous resort area depending on the weather. Leanne is respected and protected by her male comrades with everyone knowing and staying clear of Christian, known as the playboy of the group. However, with common interests and working the same shift, they are often thrown together despite seeking different goals resulting in an attraction. Very detailed knowledge of what it entails to be a member of this rescue team, keeping one's interest in this clean ans enthralling bedtime read.
