When her own mother deems her the Side Chick, she will stop at nothing to make Monica pay.
Popsicle is a whore from Cali who doesn't give a damn about her only child Monica. She blames her for losing the only person she's ever loved; her pimp Cobra. Popsicle feels that Monica owes her happiness and her body. Monica respects Popsicle's hustle, but there is no way that she'd willingly sell her body for a living. Monica has plans to move down south with the love of her life and become a fashion designer. Popsicle isn't having that. She thinks it's time for Monica to pay her dues. Either she was going to do it willingly or by force.
Will the one person Monica thought she could depend on show up on his white horse and save her from the hell she is living in, or will he go on living his life as a famous football player and forget about her?
I am Aleta aka DivaHotPen and I write books. My Debut is ZipCodez A Watts and Compton Tale; it's a gangster love story. My Bestselling series is Salty A Ghetto Soap Opera 1-4 and Why Me? A Novella and its sequel Why HER? I am a mother, a wife, and friend, a diva who get great pleasure in inspiring other women! I love The Lord and trust that all that I've been through prepared me for a time like this ( A Great One....) I Refuse to complain about anything.... I refuse to live life mad and trying to make others miserable....I refuse to live life with regret and sorrow ( I will not) God said I shall live life with Joy and not worry or regret because it will not change a thing. Take it all to him in prayer and it shall workout in my favor.
First of all this was by far one of the more entertaining shorts I've read in a long time. Author Aleta Williams did an excellent job of drawing one inside the words on the page. Now with that out of the way, lets talk about these characters. To say Popsicle, Mrs. Wright, and Alexis, were heinous would be an understatement. These chicks put ratchet to shame. I had no sympathy at all for any of them and actually cheered at their misfortune and misery. Horrible people who should have never been born. Mr. Wright I found humorous for some reason, but all in all a nice guy. Candy and Donte were good people put in very bad situations, but found a way to still preserver. Monica, Monica, Monica; this child had been taken through the ringer for real, yet she managed, finally, to get her life back on the right track. I'm sure would find the ending a bit fairytale like, BUT, the world is cold enough that a small bit of fantasy never hurts. Kudo's on a job well done!
Excellent read lived this short story. Donte saved the day. Happily ever after, or is it not so. Well miracle seems to be not having any miracles so let's see what will take place in part 2.
One of the best short stories I ever read!!! How can mother hate her child so much over a man? Popsicle is a sad excuse for a mother, she took monica through hell just because she didn't want her to be happy. Monica found Donte, them two completed each other, until lies from both side of there families torn them apart. But like they say....If u love something, you have to let it go. If it comes back then it was meant to be!!! Can't wait for or 2
This was a good short read,It had a lot of drama from the beginning to the end. That Popsicle was something else,Just when u think there will be a happy ending something else happens,Can't wait to read part 2.Great Job Aleta
This was such a mess....Popsicle hated her daughter Monica so badly she had her turned out of Heroin, who does that? I'm just smh on this read...I'm looking 4ward 2 the next installment even tho I felt like the ending was rushed it does give a lil drama 2 look 4ward 2.
This is my 1st book by this author but won't be my last. This book was so good with drama from the beginning to the end. I can't wait for the next one.
This was a great short read. Just when u thought u knew where things were heading, a twist came in and sent things in a different direction. Im looking forward to part 2.
I Applaud a Person, who goes after their dreams and reach their goals. However, NOT everyone can be or is, an 'Author'.😲 Although the beginning started out "Okay" and Not in a good way, I continued to read.....thinking the story, plot, and/or writing itself, would Improve.🙄 But NO, 'Why Me'?, stayed the course of NOT being a good Nor decent read!😐 There was NO Cohesiveness to the whole Plotline or NO (Full) Character development-it just made NO sense.......the writing itself, felt very Juvenile and NOT well-thought-out!😕😳 As an Avid Reader and Supporter of ANY Genre (as long as the Story is a GOOD One), I was Utterly and Completely DISAPPOINTED in 'Why Me'?!🤔 Miss Williams should just go back to the 'Drawing Board' and Do some Under-Study, on the 'How-To-Format' of producing a Worthwhile BOOK......Period.🤷🏾♀️
This book was really good however, so sad!! What type of mother?!! I know popsicles went through some shit growing up but as a parent you want what’s best for your children. I couldn’t believe all the lengths she had taken to get back at Monica for something she didn’t ask for nor want. I hated that Black Jack killed her because I wanted her ass to suffer and Monica to find out that it was her mom that set the whole thing up. Poor child! Donate, yes he fucked up when he went bk to sleep with the hater Alexis but he truly loved Monica and I was so hurt that they were apart. This was truly a good book. Now we have to see what this crazy broad Miracle is about to be on because she definitely got psycho vibes going on. Get in to this book...you won’t be disappointed....
Monica is born into a troubling situation. She was birthed to a prostitute and her life unbeknownst to her young mind, she was hated by the one that was supposed to love her and being groomed by the other. This story touches on rape, forced drug use, familial betrayal, and more. It definitely had the potential to be entertaining. The writing was a bit stilted, which affected the flow of the story. I would have also liked some character and plot development. This was a miss for me on the whole, but if you are just looking at the salacious moments then you may have found or will find it entertaining.
I have never, ever read a book like this... and I've read a lot. It was dark. It was heavy. It was heart-rending. It was a story that was so far out of my norm and yet my eyes teared up and I could not put it down. I know of people who were saved from prostitution and sex trafficking but, this was so much more. Popsicle was a whole piece of work. Cobra was a spawn of Satan. I don't even know how Monica was able to move forward. This was a first of this author for me. I can't wait to finish this series. As devastating as the subject matter was, I was hoping against hope for Monica to come through all that she endured with that hellacious momma she had, ugh!
Themes of family dysfunction, betrayal, and resilience
Why Me? Side Chick Drama" by Aleta Williams might be recommended for its gripping and dramatic storyline that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. The characters are realistic and relatable, dealing with real-life issues such as family dysfunction and betrayal. This emotional depth allows readers to connect deeply with their struggles and triumphs. The book's urban setting and gritty narrative appeal to fans of urban fiction, making it a compelling read for those who enjoy intense and realistic stories that evoke strong emotions.
I was enthralled from the first word until the last. Donte was a real stand up guy and fought for the love of his life in spite of his mother, Alexis and Popsicle. I understand Popsicle had demons but they shouldn't have kept her from loving and being a mother to Monica. Popsicle got just what she deserved! Monica was cursed from the start. I hate that she was hurt so badly and endured so much pain from everyone around her. She deserved her happy ending. Treat yourself and read this, you will not be disappointed!!!!
At first I was like what kind of name is Popsicle? But that shit fits her cold Hoe ass. Maybe she was the way she is because Cobras snake ass turned her out. Then innocent little Monica (Hot Cakes) got flipped into a lifestyle that that a mother would never wish on her child.
This was a great book overall. I’m ready for part 2: Why Her? It’s a shirt listen on Audible and I would have gave it 5 stars but the Audio on chapter 4 was very distorted, You have a new reader Aleta Williams.
WHY ME? IS A NOVEL WRITTEN BY ALETA WILLIAMS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF WOMEN IN DONTE'S IMMEDIATE CIRCLE INCLUDING MONICA HIS LATEST GROUPIE SENDOFF. NO MATTER WHAT, COMING TO TERMS WITH THIS MAN, WHOEVER HE IS, EVERY WOMAN IS A FULL AND COMPLETE COMPLEX ROLE PLAYER. HE DOESN'T GET THERE THAT OFTEN WITHOUT HIS BEAU MONICA. THIS WAS A COMPLETE AND FULLY WRITTEN WORK OF MODERN LITERATURE. WELL-DONE!!!
This was a good quick read. The characters are believable and the story isn't all over the place. It kept me wanting to read more. I felt sorry for Monica the way popsicle messed her over but karma's always catches up to you. Glad it worked out for Monica in the end. Can't wait to read book #2.
Ok so the first book was good but she got 4 series in the books and it is just way too much, too many characters too many different scenarios that confuses the heck out of you should have just made one book, and book 4 goes back to Monica mom
I wanted to put the book down and just stop reading. I couldn’t understand how a mother could be so horrible to her own child. I was on the verge of tears.
I’m so glad Donte and Monica found their way back to one another after all of the tragedies that happened. If just goes to show that love does conquer all in the end
