I didn't realize until I got to the end of this story that it's not a romance. Maybe I should have paid attention to the blurb, huh? I'm glad I went into this blind. While waiting for the supposed romance to build, I got to learn the true intricacies of the relationship between Saint and Eden. Or whatever you want to call what developed between these two. I loved how the author gave such insight into Saint's character. He was a vision to be feared, larger than life, but he was still human. He had his own torments and I believe a part of him was broken. Lovell gave me lots of parts of him to love. Eden was incredibly naive, but I think if she was worldly, the story wouldn't have worked as well as it did. I was able to admire her strength even in the middle of her bouts of weakness. I just wish there was more to this story. The ending felt largely unfinished, leaving me looking for the rest. Maybe the author will gift us with something else? *hint hint*
I would have 5 starred the heck out of this book if Saint deserved a little Poetic Justice. Suspense is pointless when it leads to a weak ending. It made the book feel long and drawn out for no reason. It was kind of anticlimactic imo.
I will say, The Saint was very well written. L.P. Lovell is a talented author. I'm excited to read more of her work. The Pope was exceptional.
so, I both loved it and didn't...I'm torn cause, well, besides the phenomenal writing of LP Lovell, cause that's like a given, I'm not even putting any thought to it in this review...
I LOVED, fucking admiring it through and through, how Lauren dabbled in psychological portrayal of a man obssessed with sin and his debatable path of coming close to God through punishment BUT never to repent or redeem, no that's not Saint...
which actually delivers a person that you must either accept as a complexity on it's own bordering on loonacy with serious dangerous impact on the society (if we came across him in real life LOL) or simply shut down your reasonable part of the brain and simply admire the fucked up complexity of a psycho, that is Saint Kingsley
what I found abruptly lacking is the very ending! I never expected it to be a romance, and with the warning given by Lauren herself, I wasn't looking for romance either BUT I felt I missed the point LOL which doesn't look good on my resume LMAO.
I wasn't given what i needed to make this conclusion complete. It was left open and I am torn cause well considering the person (Saint) that is, in fact, unable to "feel" emotions as known, as he's lacking in that department (thus psychopath with sociopathic tendencies), I didn't appreciate the cut happening right where it did happen, cause it was somewhat misleading...by giving me an opening for something more and I absolutely didn't want "more"
i'm not deluded by the fact that this is not a romance, it's a dark suspense, but then I get the feel like I have been given a flick of romance in there and I'm like NOOOOOOO....I don't really need it in there, you see, this story should have ended with a punch of a different kind (quite opposite from a romantic glimpse) and that's why I am torn...and I feel like I have somehow missed the point by "SEEING" this little act for what it's NOT instead of, for what it's supposed to be...
so, it's on me.
Lauren is an exceptional writer, with so many talents you can't even name them using your fingers, and she's pushing the limits of her own world by infiltrating me and every reader that tries out her work, into a whole new sphere of majestic storytelling on so many levels...it's riveting, compelling, palpitating, twisted and questionable in reason and action but you are bound to the edge of your seat waiting for it to happen...
Okay, I think I need 10 shots and a lifetime to come to terms with what I just read. I did not expect that. This book is hort but it definitely it not a quick easy read. I’m left feeling restless and I can’t seem to get my thoughts in order.
Eden is like a mother figure to her younger brother after her mother died. Her brother is all she has left and he is currently going down the wrong path and is in danger so she seeks help from a man who is feared by everyone. He is very powerful and is a devout Catholic. He also is a psychopath who is as cold and unfeeling as they come. He sees Eden as an angel and he believes she is his salvation and the only person that can help his corrupted soul. He views her as pure and untouched. He tried to stay away from her at first but soon she becomes his obsession. He needs her with him and he would do literally anything to keep her.
Saint’s head was a dark place to be. I have honestly not come across a anti-hero like him before. He knows he is not a good man but he still seeks absolution. He has found an angel on earth and she is his light. I hated Saint because of his actions that left me feeling broken but I also loved him. I am left with so many questions that I need answers to. I need more.
STORY: When Eden’s teenage brother, Otto, goes missing, Eden asks Saint (brother of Judas from THE POPE) for help.
“I’ve made a deal with the devil, and he can gladly have my soul if he’ll let go of my brother’s.”
Saint is a dark, fu This is definitely not your typical romance!! However, if you love dark stories (not gray, I’m talking about DARK), you don’t require a “typical”, riding off into the sunset ending or need sex in your books, this is a must read!!! Lovell is always incredibly creative and talented, but THE SAINT is one of the most innovative books I’ve ever read!
EDITING/PROOFREADING: The only reason I didn’t give this amazing book a solid 5 star rating is because the editing and proofreading was very disappointing. If you don’t care for specific examples, this is where my review ends!
BOOM!!! What was that book? I knew that Mrs Lovell was able to write some twisted stories, but The Saint is truly something else!!! I don't even know where to begin when it comes to that madness.
Saint, owner of Sanctuary, money forger, is the man you don't want to cross in your life. Trust me you want to stay away from him. When bad circumstances bring Eden on his radar, his controled life and daily routine are seriously put to jeopardy. Eden's brother disappeared a week ago and she is determined to find him. Nothing will stop her from unveiling the truth, and certainly not Saint.
I'm putting it mildly when I say the emotions brought up by this twisted and strange read were incredible. I felt Saint's fascination for his angel, his despair at the idea of ending up burning in hell. The images and visuals in this book were very strong, absolutely poetic.
"Blessed by an angel, baptised in her tears. His conflict, pain, rage were palpable in every page."
And like a lion stalking a vulnerable gazelle, his obsession with the heroine knew no limit. Eden showed courage, grace and strength. She is the purity Saint seeks in his tainted and sinful life. Her distress and fight felt like a punch in the belly.
But when in the hands if this delightful psychopath, what's the worth of her willpower? Saint is the darkness of Eden's light.
“Look at you, so worried about one sin. You are fucking sin!”
Captivating characters, they will bring you down, right with them, through an incredibly strong plot. Mark my words, this books is brilliant, ingenious, daring and machiavellian.
"She’s my absolution, my salvation, and because of that, she’s become my obsession."
The Saint kept me wondering, on the edge of my seat, and played with my mind until. The. Very. End. I just have to applaud the devilish creativity of the author. Well done!!!
I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!
"She's my absolution, my salvation, and because of that, she's become my obsession." Saint Kingsley is anything but what his name implies... he straddles a fine line between his dark urges and his misinterpreted morality. According to his mother, he was born with the devil in him but raised to believe in God. Cold, unfeeling and conflicted, this psychopath constantly searches for forgiveness through self punishment to find balance... until Eden, a beautiful, innocent angle who enters his underground domain for help. Thing is that HE is the one who needs her help to save his tainted soul. This story is NOT a romance in any way... it's dark, twisted, without any logic... Saint is going to play so many messed up games with your mind, you will be hanging on the edge of your seat! 5 Religiously Passionate Stars for "The Saint"... a dark story about a distorted faith, temptation and a warped absolution.
I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review. Initially i thought this was a romance but its not. But it turned out better than i expected. Saint is a dark, dangerous psychopath and Eden is portrayed in his mind as an angel. I wont spoil the book for you, but the ending was not what i expected and i didnt see it coming. I enjoyed this book but felt it was left unfinished which leaves me in hope there could be a 2nd one in the future. I hope so!
Saint Kingsley was brought up believing he was born with the devil inside him. The church became his second home and paved the way to the man he grew up becoming. Strict with everything to do with his life, including his illegal business dealings, all the while praying every day for his sins to be forgiven to earn a spot in Heaven. Now Saint's empire is slowly toppling like dominoes and pushing him to break his rules in order to come back out on top.
L.P. Lovell has written such an intriguing story and quite unique with not only an anti-hero but also an anti-romance all the while centering everything around religion, but in a tasteful way. Unlike his name, Saint does walk the immoral line but also has a code that he sticks to, and if something worse needs to happen to someone then he has no problem delegating those jobs to his brother and other associates. With Eden now in the picture trying to find her lost brother, Saint's control starts to slip and also brings about an obsession with his angel, believeing Eden was sent to be his salvation.
The Saint does take place in the same dark world as The Pope, although both are standalones and can be read in either order. I have yet to read the first book but now I'm even more fascinated to learn about these characters and their business dealings. Even without being a romantic story, it was easy to see how Eden changed Saint to be someone different and in return he made sure that Eden never suffered for anything. These two characters are on opposite sides of a coin but quickly become who the other needs. I'm absolutely loving L.P. Lovell's way of writing and whether she continues with these characters or not, I look forward to what she brings out next.
If you are expecting romance between the dark, religious Saint and the innocent Eden, then this story isn't for you. There is no hearts and flowers. I felt like both of the characters were lost... One of religiously and another emotionally because of familial bonds.
I wasn't expecting for Saint to be absolve of sin or to have type or redemption. The irony of who he is, it is in his name. Saint. He had so many devilish qualities. They were hidden by routine.
I was worried when the routine was not there. What will happen with Saint? What type of control will he have? None? If you does the unthinkable, what will be his punishment concerning the supposed sin?
Eden... She was naive... Too naive. I wish she would have opened her eyes as well as her ears. I felt like she was absent half the time. Ugh... Is it bad to say I loved Saint's crazy, unforgivable character more than Eden? She never fully understood her situation. She just went with it. I wanted to shake her and have her see reason.
I hated Ash's character but he was the most conscientious troublemaker I ever did see. He understood when to step back and when to jump in.
I'm glad Judas and Delilah made appearances. All of the Kingsley brothers have to be a part of the crazy. To understand Saint, I felt like Jase and Judas had to be there. Not because of family and business but because the differences between the brothers had to be seen. Morally... Religiously... Ethically...
Where do I start? This was crazy, I never expected that ending.
Eden is a young woman looking after her younger brother since their parents are no longer around. She does the best she can but unfortunately Otto takes the wrong path.
Saint is.... well, Saint. I don’t know how to describe him. He is crazy religious and I meant crazy with a capital C. I can’t tell you much more that that.
Their relationship is not based on romance and nor will it be. They each have a reason for needing the other and as you read on that will become clear.
I can’t stress enough that this is not a romance. This is dark and thrilling and will take you on a rollercoaster of disgust, sorrow, horror and sympathy for that characters involved. This is a must read but be prepared for anything.
This is a stand-alone but it is set in the same world as The Pope so I recommend you start with that one first.
"She's my absolution, my salvation, and because of that, she's become my obsession." Whoa, what did I just read?!? My friends, this is not a romance. A dark suspense novel, The Saint by LP Lovell is thrilling, twisted, and utterly enthralling. Exceptional writing, great character development, and an intricate plot. You truly can’t predict where this book goes, but author LP Lovell takes it there. A wild and terrifying ride, this book will mess with your mind.
Saint Kingsley is not a hero. Anything but his namesake, Saint is both terrifyingly alluring and completely unhinged. He’s ruthless, unfeeling, and stringently devoted to his religious ideals. With a warped view of morality, his world is about control, and his reign absolute. Saint forever seeks atonement for the stains on his tattered soul, and sees salvation in the form of a beautiful, grief stricken woman, Eden. But what happens when the one man who can help her, is the same man who can tear her world apart? Read Saint by LP Lovell to find out!
This was very interesting, entertaining, and so very different. I really enjoyed the break in the status quo with this one. Saint is a very different kinda man, but one that I couldn't help but love. He's not your normal anti-hero, but he is still one.
The suspense/plot part of this book kinda fell flat for me, thus the reason for me marking it down. This was the only thing that was off for me. I needed more edge of your seat material with a bit more something to keep me guessing. With this, the ending also felt a bit cut off and just dropped. Had these things been flushed out more than the story would have been a definite 5 star for me.
The Pope (book 1) was amazing and a 5 star read for me. Make sure you check it out!!
WOW! I really didn't expect THAT! This story sucked me in right from the beginning and had me intrigued until the end. And I still have so many questions and I want more. Oh so much more! I think Eden and Saint were perfect for each other in that oh so wrong kinda way. LOL
This one was a little tough for me. I have read dark stories before but Saint's callousness and lack of moral compass was stark. Saint is a psychopath who has this warped sense of his Catholicism. He thinks he can tell his bothers to kill someone and the stain isn't on his hands because he didn't do the physical killing. What he psychologically does to Eden is unnerving. Take heed from the author's warning, this is not a romantic story....its a dark obsession.
I’m not sure how I feel right now.... I had such high hopes for The Saint after reading The Pope but I’m just disappointed that this book didn’t have a better ending. I completely understand the hows and whys and the writing was excellent but come on! In the way Saint thinks and lives his life it was a very happy ending for him but I needed more. To me he needed more of an awaken and less selfishness. Or to put it simply... He needed love.
I preordered The Saint shortly after reading The Pope so I went directly in this blind with hopes that he would be redeemed but sadly fell short on the love like Judas. (I later went back and read the blurb when I was at 80%) I just wanted him to fine what his brother had. BUT in Saints twisted mind I guess he did. Very good book and I would recommend it to everyone.
Side note to LP Lovell: Please, please, please give us more on Saint!! I feel like his story is just starting and there are a lot of unresolved issues. This is just my opinion of course!
oh my god! What a mind f^%$k this was. An amazing chilling 5 star for The Saint.
I had read The Pope and loved it so much so when I heard The Saint was coming I jumped right on it. This is not a romance story if this is what your looking for. Although he is obsessed with her but it’s a psychological thriller of some sort. I basically read it in one sitting. It’s so captivating and intriguing that I couldn’t put it down for very long.
The characters are spot on well executed. You can feel the despair from them. Saint is a sociopath and delusional ,the author described him and made him so. I was kept on the edge of my seat all throughout this story. What I thought would happen didn’t, I was surprised at every turn. Bottomline this is one of LP Lovell’s best written book I’ve read so far.
Can safely be read as a standalone but I encourage the readers to read The Pope first. Told in a dual POV, although we get Saint’s POV more often. It does have a weird HEA, in the mind of Saint. I strongly recommend this story.
I’m having a hard time deciding how I feel about The Saint. It was an intense and bizarre story. For the most part, I was completely intrigued with every turn of events, but I felt unsettled, unsatisfied with the ending and that left me frustrated. Honestly, if the current blurb had been the one I had read when I decided to read The Saint, I might have passed this one over.
The Saint is billed as a suspense, but I didn’t feel like it really lived up to that genre. I never had the feeling that something ominous was looming on the horizon. Never had any desire to try to figure out who was behind anything, because we knew who was behind everything, almost as soon as it happened. The Saint felt like the first three-quarters of a dark romance, with none of the payoff of a satisfying conclusion. To me, it felt like the book started as a romance, then the author wasn’t sure how to redeem the anti-hero, so she cut the ending short, called it a suspense novel, then hoped her loyal readers would take it at face value. The Saint could have been a phenomenal story had Ms. Lovell clung to Saint’s ominous persona and fleshed out the relationship with him and Eden, all while he was keeping his secrets. It would have kept with the tenor of the story and given the reader some sense of closure regarding the story.
Holy Mother of all things religious…..I am undeniably gobsmacked!! Wow!! Just let me say if you’re looking for romance you won’t find it. It is ominous and harrowing and will shock you to your very core.
Saint Kingsley is anything but saintly. He seeks salvation for his tainted soul. His family calls him the devil. He is evil, cruel and insanely demented. No amount of confessions, hail mary’s, or penance will bring him absolution. Until Eden.
Eden Harris is an angel amongst mortal men. She has been sent as a saviour for Saint. Eden will be his vessel to deliverance and nothing will stand between him and God’s forgiveness.
~I killed for her. I gave myself to the devil, for the wrath of an angel. Now the angel must save my soul.~
My rating for Saint is 4.5* stars, but because the author had the courage and audacity to go there, I am giving another 0.5 stars.
I received a copy of this book from the pulbisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
My life was simple: God, business and myself in that order. Then I met an Angel , and everything changed. Only an angel can save him.
I am not even what to say right now. I just finished this book. If you have read The Pope then you have heart the name Saint as he is Judas brother. However he runs a totally different business from Judas but he is the head of the family and I think really tey all fear each other to a certan degree except for maybe his brotherJudas. He doesn't exactly have the greatest relationship with Jase either, Specakingof cast I want to read his ook so ad. THere may anot eve nbe a book out about him, But if tere is I wast to devour it. Saint is a man who keeps to himself He is a literal money makerr. Hue just sit back withle everryon esle takes care of anything. But make no mistake you will not double cross him and live to tell he ltell. When some of his money ends up on the hands of de dealer the their wash plant aHe knoews h e has a probelm It then that Eden begs for help that her ex Ashley and he take to to Lucas who takes her to Saint. Good gried Saint if one part sweet, on part man, on part psycho, and slightly crazy. I wasn't expecting the end of this book to be what is was and I am still mad and so upset. I just want to throat put someone. I knew it wasn't a love story frmo the beginning but I never expected this. I am so glad Ito read Saint's story. If you love dark books that have you hangin on the edge of your seat tht are too not romances then The Saint iis fo you
I really wanted to rate this book higher but I just felt like there was something missing from it. And I am not talking about sex or steamy scenes or anything like that, of which there are none in this book. Yeah they would have been nice, but the story itself was not lacking by their absence so that has nothing to do with why I rated this only 3 stars. I just feel like there were a few too many unanswered questions at the end. Are they still just friends? While his obsession is evident, he never uses the word "love", tho given his nature that can be easily explained. But did he truly love her or was he just keeping her around because he saw her as a savior and not a romantic interest? The story was great but the ending left me wanting and was unsatisfying with all the lingering questions. Even tho I didn't see the twist with Otto coming and I was hoping for some kind of alternate end to that piece of the plot, but I wasn't upset when it didn't come because it fit with Saint's personality and character to have things happen the way they did.
I do recommend this story but please make sure you read The Pope first so that some of the characters, plot points, and details make sense to you. You won't be completely lost if you don't read it first but Saint will make more sense if you do.
I am really unsure about how I feel about this book. I know that the ending absolutely sucked. It was unhappy, at least in my eyes, and I feel that what happened right before it ended was too much for the character to bear and that Saint really couldn't be good for her and I wish so much that Eden would realize that.
I don't like these two together. Not at all. Saint is a fucking psychopath. He's clinically insane. For real. I mean, literally in the book he's not diagnosed as clinically insane. But from the way he one hundred percent believes that Eden is an angel and that she can absolve him of all his sins, you can just tell.
The ending, as I said earlier, absolutely sucked. I did not like it. I feel that it did not do this book justice. The only romantic thing they do together is kiss. They don't have sex. Most of the time, the attraction is one-sided, and that side is Saint's. He makes an awful decision that impacted Eden more than anything ever could, and even though she doesn't find out, the fact that he did it and she's attracted to that darker side of him that sometimes seems to come out, it just doesn't work well. They are not compatible. They do not work. End of story.
